Chapter Text
Soulmates are a one-time deal. Apparently, everyone has one. Apparently, somehow, some way, fate aligns circumstance and destiny for both of them in a way that they inevitably cross paths.
Some people wait 20, 30, 50 years. Some are luckier, they meet their significant other as kids, get to grow up together before they grow old together.
Kirishima Eijirou has always wanted that kind of love. He’s watched it happen all around him over and over again.
Only when he was able to read did the weird symbols make sense, as well. A countdown on everyone’s wrist until they meet their other half. It must be so exciting to see the number lower and lower and know that they’re ever closer until finally, it reaches 0 and boom. There they are. There you are, both.
Like planets colliding, his mother used to say. Like the sun’s brightness finally making sense, his mom used to add, then, and they’d both laugh because somehow those words made sense to them and only them. Eijirou marvels at his parents’ love daily, wishing nothing more than to experience it himself at some point.
It’s a birth defect, probably. Some freak accident of nature that his countdown isn’t visible.
Where others have numbers etched into the skin of their wrist, Eijirou has nothing. Well, not exactly nothing. A singular • at the exact spot where there should be a countdown. He used to be worried about it a lot more, but recently it doesn’t faze him anymore. The doctor’s he’d seen ever since he was young had just written it off as some weird phenomenon, maybe a skin condition or something?
Perhaps the countdown would kick off at some point? Maybe when he was close to his soulmate already? Or it wouldn’t but theirs would be there and then he’d know when they knew. And didn’t that just makes things all the more exciting? In a world where everyone knows when they’re gonna meet the love of their life to be the one who will be taken by surprise?
