You're my wonderwall

Summary:

“Please take good care of me,” Jungkook bows once again.

“We’re glad to have you here, Jungkookie!” Namjoon grins at the taller boy then he nudges his son. “Isn't that right, Yoongi?”

Yoongi sighs defeatedly. “Y-yeah, welcome home, Jungkook.”

Chapter 1: Where did this Jungkook even come from?

Chapter Text

Yoongi is trying really hard not to freak out. He takes deep breaths as he tries not to think about how his life is going to end tonight.

He hears noise coming from downstairs. Footsteps and muffled voices. There shouldn't be anyone else home besides him, so he thinks some strangers broke into the house. Are they stealing? Are they crazy psychopaths on a killing spree? Are they going to torture him and sell his organs in the black market?

Oh hell no, I’m not going down without a fight. Yoongi huffs. He grabs the pepper spray from his nightstand drawer, then he pulls out his old baseball bat under his bed. He sends Hoseok a text, letting him know the situation, before he tiptoes out of his bedroom. He can hear the sound of his own heart pounding in his ears, getting quicker and louder with every step he takes.

The voices has stopped but Yoongi can't tell if that's a good thing or not. He leans against the wall separating the dining area and slowly peeks into the room. There’s a guy sitting at the table, his back facing Yoongi. He looks tall and muscular and definitely can beat Yoongi in a fight.

I’m not scared! I have a bat! Yoongi chants to himself, mustering up the courage to approach the stranger. He advances quietly and prepares to swing his weapon, but then a very familiar voice cuts through the silence, halting his actions. He turns around and drops the bat in an instant.

“Dad?!”

“Jesus, Yoongi, what are you doing?”

The teenager runs to his father and hugs him tightly.

“I.. i thought something bad was going to happen! I was so scared!"

“Hey, hey, calm down, bud. I’m here now. You’re safe,” Namjoon runs his fingers through his son’s pink hair. “I’m sorry I forgot to tell you that I was coming home tonight.”

Yoongi pulls away. “I thought you weren’t coming back until the end of the week? Did something happen at your business trip?” He gasps and frantically checks his father for any signs of injuries. “Are you okay? Are you hurt somewhere?”

Namjoon holds Yoongi’s cheeks in both hands and smiles warmly at him. “I’m okay, Yoongs. I’m not hurt at all. You don’t have to worry about me, okay?”

“O-okay.. If you say so,” Yoongi tries to smile back but he still feels uneasy.

“I do have something to tell you though. It’s really important,” Namjoon looks behind Yoongi. “I want to introduce you to Jungkook.”

Crap. Yoongi has completely forgotten about him. Jungkook is standing now, towering over Yoongi, looking at him with empty eyes and unreadable expression on his face.

“Hello, Yoongi-ssi. Nice to meet you,” Jungkook bows deeply.

Yoongi feels slightly intimidated but he returns the gesture anyways. He doesn’t want to be rude in front of his father. “It’s nice to meet you too. Please just call me Yoongi.”

“He’s staying with us from now on,” Namjoon breaks the awkward silence. “I hope you two will get along well.”

“Please take good care of me,” Jungkook bows once again.

Yoongi doesn’t even try to hide his frown. His father has never mentioned Jungkook once in his life, then he's going to live under the same roof as them all of a sudden. Where did he even come from? How does he know his father? What if he’s dangerous? He looks like he can easily crush Yoongi with those thighs.

Despite the turmoil inside him, Yoongi decides to trust his father and remains quiet. Maybe he will get his answers later.

“We’re glad to have you here, Jungkookie!” Namjoon grins at the taller boy then he nudges his son. “Isn't that right, Yoongi?”

Yoongi sighs defeatedly. “Y-yeah, welcome home, Jungkook.”

Sleep doesn’t come easy to Yoongi. His mind has been plague with the thought of a new addition to his very small family. Jungkook is currently staying in the room next to his. Yoongi wonders if he’s sleeping already or is he wide awake like him, worrying about this sudden change in their lives?

There’s a knock on his door. It opens slightly, revealing his father. “Yoongi? Can we talk?”

“Of course, dad,” Yoongi offers him a small smile. “It’s about Jungkook, isn’t it?”

Namjoon nods. He sits on the other end of the bed. “Listen carefully, son. Everything I’m about to tell you is really important and you have to keep it between us, okay?”

“I promise.”

“Jungkook is very special,” Namjoon starts. “He’s, uh, he’s a hybrid. A wolf..”

“What?!”

Namjoon puts his finger against his lips, signaling Yoongi to lower his voice down.

Yoongi shakes his head in disbelief, panic bubbling up in his chest. “Bu-but, Dad, isn’t the government hunting down the hybrids? We might get in big trouble—”

“Nothing’s going to happen to us as long as we keep quiet about it,” Namjoon puts his hand on his son’s shoulder and gave it a little squeeze to reassure him. “We have to keep Jungkook safe, Yoongi. He doesn’t have anyone else but us.”

“W-where is his family? How do you even know him, Dad?”

“His dad was a good friend of mine,” Namjoon smiles sadly, his eyes glossy with unshed tears. Yoongi feels a slight pang in his chest. He hates the thought of his dad hurting in any way. “They were killed by hunters. Jungkook barely escaped. I wasn’t on a business trip, Yoongi. I was helping them to get away, but we were unsuccessful..”

“Dad.. I—I’m sorry..”

“We have to help Jungkook, Yoongi, okay?” Namjoon pleads.

Yoongi thinks of Jungkook and his heart breaks a little. He can’t even imagine the pain he’s going through right now.

It shouldn’t be a crime to be a hybrid. They didn’t choose to be born that way. They’re different but they have as much right to life as humans do.

Humans and hybrids used to coexist peacefully until a few years ago, when a family was tragically killed by a hybrid. The government has been hunting down all hybrids since then, killing them on the spot or throwing them into a cell to rot for the rest of their lives.

Fuck the government.

Yoongi nods and smiles at his father. “We’ll protect Jungkook, Dad. He’ll be safe with us.”

“Thank you, bud,” Namjoon ruffles the boy’s hair fondly. He has raised Yoongi well, and his heart swells in adoration for his son.
