Chapter Text
Jin and Yoongi dated for seven months. They met through mutual friends. Jin repaired cars on the side after work for extra money. After repairing a friend’s friend’s car, he eventually met Yoongi.
“My friend needs his car fixed, needing new brakes or something,” Namjoon told Jin over lunch in the break room one day.
“Sure,” Jin mumbled, mouth stuffed with barbecue flavored chips, “just give him my number.”
“Really? Thanks!” Namjoon said enthusiastically, already pulling his phone out to exchange their numbers, “his name is Jungkook by the way.”
After a few texts explaining his car troubles and discussing prices, Jungkook showed up at Jin’s house two days later with his car, and Yoongi. “Hi Jin, nice to meet you!” Jungkook smiled, shaking his hand and dropping his keys in his hand after, “I appreciate your help.”
“No problem at all!”
“This is my buddy, Yoongi. He drove his car here also so we can grab some food while you work on my car.”
“Hi Yoongi,” Jin nodded, a smiled forming on his face, “it shouldn’t take long to work on your car. But take as long as you need. And bring me some chicken tenders back.”
“He’s kinda cute,” Yoongi said when he and Jungkook got in the car, “single?” He questioned.
“I don’t know him,” Jungkook shrugged, “I guess you’ll have to ask him yourself.”
“Are you kidding?” Yoongi said, lightly hitting Jungkook’s arm, “I would never—“
“It won’t matter! You don’t know him. If you embarrass yourself, you won’t have to see him ever again.”
Jungkook and Yoongi arrived back at Jin’s house less than two hours later. Jin answered the door after hearing Jungkook’s continuous knocks. “Hey again! Can I please use your bathroom?” Jin moved to the side, allowing the younger boy to pass him and follow the other’s directions to the bathroom.
“He really has to take a shit,” Yoongi said, immediately feeling regret for his comment, despite Jin laughing at it. “We— we brought you chicken tenders from the restaurant.” Jin’s mouth formed into a smile and welcomed Yoongi inside, heading to the kitchen. Yoongi places the takeout box on the kitchen island and sat in the bar stool next to Jin.
“So how long have you been fixing cars?” Small talk. Yoongi’s least favorite thing, and yet he only initiates it with people he likes.
"My dad has been teaching me since a young age," Jin told him, eating the chicken tenders, "I do it as a side thing while also working full-time as well."
"Oh wow," Yoongi said, "so you must—"
"No, I don't have a lot of money. I'm actually splitting the rent on this place." Jin laughed after his statement. It was a common question, whether he has a lot of extra money because of his full time job and his side job of fixing cars.
"I didn't realize you were sharing this place—" Yoongi said.
"Yeah, he's somewhere around here. His name is Hoseok, or Hobi for short."
Yoongi nodded as he listened to Jin talk, but he couldn't help but cut him off as he was talking about how he found Hoseok, through another mutual friend, and how he only slightly regrets choosing him as a roommate.
"Are you single?"
"What?"
"Uh... Yeah," Yoongi said, avoiding repeating the question, "you heard me I think."
"Yes, I'm single," Jin answered simply, placing his chicken tender in the takeout box and folding his arms across his chest, "why?"
Without hesitation, Yoongi answered, "you're cute." This behavior is abnormal coming from Yoongi. Always playing it safe and never taking chances, he was never outgoing enough to "shoot his shot," as Jungkook always told him to do.
Jin was different somehow, and brought this side out in Yoongi.
But maybe that's what ruined them.
