Work Text:
Giorno was a blessing to both Dio and Jonathan and they both loved him more than they could describe. He was a child who carried all their best traits (and some of their worst ones) but managed to retain his own personality that shone above the rest.
He was the offspring of a God and an Angel and it showed.
While he struggled to find the right way to communicate sometimes, he had his own special interest that helped him through it.
Flowers.
He delighted in going to botanical gardens and researching flowers and their meanings, often rambling on about them to his two fathers with a smile on his face. And his fathers would always smile back, because Giorno's happiness was their own as well.
It was a spring morning. The morning of what is proclaimed to be the most romantic day of the year. Valentine's Day.
"Giorno, my little ladybird, are you awake?" Jonathan gently shook the little boy awake, kneeling down next to his bed. When Giorno woke up he rubbed at his eyes and blearily smiled at his father.
"Morning..." He paused and yawned, stretching his arms. "Morning, Papa."
"Good morning, Giorno." If Jonathan could melt from adorableness, he was sure Giorno would make him melt everytime he woke up. On second thoughts, he would melt when either Giorno or Dio woke up. Dio had been so much for Jonatha to handle in the first place, so when Giorno came along it just made everything so much more difficult - he coukd barely go a second without thinking he'd combust from the love of his family. "Do you want to help me surprise your Father with a gift today?"
"Yes!" Giorno responded enthusiastically, nodding his head.
"Well, tonight, you're going to spend the day with Uncle Diego, is that okay, pumpkin?"
"Dinosaur Diego?" Giorno asked, seeming to think about it quite hard. It was understandable; the boy had so many relatives he called uncle just for the sake of simplicity, but it seemed to remembered who Diego was. "Okay!" And JoJo sighed in relief at how nicely Giorno took it. He could be difficult sometimes, but he couldn't blame the boy.
"You father and I are going to... have a date, and I have no clue what kind of flowers to get him. Do you want to help me choose?" And he didn't even need to hear Giorno's response because, judging by the stars in the little boy's eyes, he'd already won Giorno over with his plan.
It was a good thing that JoJo had managed to get out of bed without waking up Dio that morning - not that he couldn't anyway since he did it every day, but because he was so nervous about making this day perfect for the two of them.
Jonathan made breakfast for Giorno as the litrlw boy poured over his books of flora and fauna and searched to make a bouquet that Dio would like. He would talk to himself and ponder outloud and laugh and seem to be having the time of his life, especially since Jonathan had given him free reign over what to choose. It was a creative project that was unmatched anything Giorno had gotten to do before.
By the time JoJo returned to the table with freshly made pancakes covered in an assortment of fruit with a glass of orange juice, Giorno had a list of flowers with their meanings and his own little reasonings for his Papa to take to the florists. Jonathan was overjoyed with the ones that Giorno had chosen; they were utterly perfect and suited Dio just right.
Agrimony - Thankfulness (because you're happy that Father loves you)
Balloon Flower - Endless Love/Honesty (because you'll always be together)
Celandine - Joy for the Future (because you want to be happy together in the future)
Globe Amaranth - Unfading love (because you love him as much as always forever)
Red Rose - I love you (because you love him, duh!)
He kissed his son out of gratitude and love and let him get to eating his breakfast. He still had a plate of pancakes to take to his sleeping husband after all.
"Oh, Giorno?" Jonathan said suddenly, remembering something important. "This is our little secret, okay? I want to surprise your Papa so don't tell him, alright?" Giorno nodded and held out his pinky finger and the two of them sealed their promise.
Time to wake up his grumpy husband he supposed.
When he walked into the bedroom, Dio was curled up and holding on to JoJo's pillow life his life depended on it. That was two times in one morning he was going to melt into nothingness from the sheer cuteness of his family. He set the tray of food down on the bedside table and made to wake up Dio.
"Dio, darling, wake up. I have a surprise for you." And Dio groaned and rolled over to ignore him. Stubborn. "Come on, Dio, you promised you'd take Giorno to the park today too before dropping him off with your brother. " It was been a joke when Dio had said it, but it was the perfect excuse to buy the bouquet Giorno had so carefully chosen for him to get. Dio rolled back over to look Jonathan in the eyes.
"You're awake, you can do it." He grumbled with every intention to go back to sleep. That is, until JoJo leant down and kissed him and pouted with that puppy dog face he pulled off so well.
"Please? I made breakfast." Jonathan persisted, knowing already that he had Dio, hook, line, and sinker. His husband sat up in the bed and frowned at how brightly Jonathan smiled.
Thirteen years with him and still he had no idea how he managed to have so much energy in the mornings.
The two of them shared their breakfast in bed, JoJo feeding Dio per his request, and eventually Giorno joined the two of them, snuggling his way into the middle of the two of them and completing their happy family.
But the matter of getting Dio and Giorno. out the house so Jonathan could plan their date still remained, meaning the two of them had to get up, get washed, and get dressed ready to go to the park while JoJo did the dishes.
"Come, Giorno, let's get you down to the park." Dio said, pulling on his yellow jacket and extending a hand to his son.
"Not the banana suit! Father, you know I hate the banana suit!" Giorno pleaded, refusing to take Dio's hand. Jonathan was gald he was facing away from the two of them because he couldnt hold back a laugh at the blunt comment his son had made.
And after one trouser changing ("Giorno, little ladybird, I am keeping the jacket. I'm not going go be seen around looking as drab as the rest of the town.") the front door was locked and the two parties set off their separate ways.
"Love you, Dio. See you tonight." JoJo kissed his husband and son farewell, leaving to go to the florists under the guise of it being work.
There was only one florists that JoJo knew he could visit and get whatever flowers he needed. One where he could not only get a Valentine's Day discount but a family one as well.
"Hello, Ms. Holly, are you doing well?"
"Oh, Jonathan! It's so good to see you! I'm afraid you just missed Jotaro if you wanted to see him, he has a date, isn't thay exciting?" Holly rushed round the counter to greet him properly with a kiss on either cheek, Jonathan having to lean down so she could reach properly.
"That is wonderful, I hope he's found himself a good partner. I am here for you today though, I was wondering if you had these flowers to make a bouquet with?" He asked, showing her the list of flowers Giorno had made. She looked it over with a smiled and nodded as she went down the list.
"I think I can rustle up something with all of these in. Did Giorno choose them? Oh you must bring him for a visit sometime!" Holly got started walking around the shop with the list in hand as she picked out flowers.
"Aha, I know he'd love it. You could teach him so much more than Dio or I ever could." JoJo smiled. The bouquet was coming together nicely and Holly hadn't even arranged them properly yet. Giorno had done a great job choosing and Dio was going to love them.
"Don't be silly, that boy would teach me more than I could ever teach him!" The woman laughed and Jonathan wasn't sure how to respond since she was most likely right, but he couldn't very well just agree with her. He settled for a good middle ground of saying that Giorno would have regardless.
Luckily for Jonathan, Holly didn’t have any customers come in during the time she was putting together his arrangement so it was done in record time and Jonathan couldn’t be more thankful.
“Give my regards to Dio! And remember to bring Giorno round sometime!” She waved him goodbye and Jonathan waved back, glad that she was just as energetic and loving as always. It was a good thing too. Jonathan wouldn’t know how to face her after what happened with Dio if she hadn’t forgiven him.
Jonathan left with a skip in his step and his heart full of love wondering what his two favourite people were doing.
Dio was thoroughly enjoying his time with Giorno and Giorno, though he was a bit embarrassed, was enjoying his time with his Father.
They had gone on the adventure of a life time in the short space of an hour thanks to the young boy’s imagination and even treated themselves to ice cream, one scoop of pistachio and one of chocolate. It was all in all a perfect day.
But…
A perfect day has to have a perfect end, and Dio had just the thing planned to make his son happy.
“Giorno, are you aware of the date?”
“It’s the fourteenth. Valentine’s Day!” And how right he was.
“Exactly, little one, Valentine’s Day and you are the most important person in my master plan.”
Perhaps he was being a bit mire theatrical than usual but Giorno was lapping it up and looked so happy. He reminded Giorno every day that he was the most important person in the world and yet it still made him happy. Giorno had inherited Jonathan’s naivety to believe almost anything. The only difference here was that there was nothing to be naive to, Giorno really was important to Dio.
“Come, we have something important to do before we visit your Uncle Diego.” And Dio and Giorno walked hand in hand to their next destination.
“It is I, Dio, and my son, Giorno, come to request your assistance, Ms. Kujo.” Dio announced walking into the florists. Holly almost squealed in delight at the sight of Giorno.
“Oh precious little Giorno! How are you, little ladybird?” She asked, her eyes squinted into a smile as she fussed over the little boy and hugged him close. “What are the two of you here for?”
“I have given you and Giorno the honour of helping me choose a bouquet for me to gift to my JoJo tonight.” Holly couldn’t help but hide her smile behind her hand.
“And what an honour it is! Come on, Giorno, you can help me arrange them!” And with the permission to go with her, Giorno followed with hurried footsteps and wide eyes, excited to be surrounded by so much of his special interest.
It didn’t take long at all, Dio was pleasantly surprised at Holly’s competence at her craft and her ability to make Giorno so included in the process. It didn’t take long at all for Dio to be presented with a beautiful and meaningful bouquet that Giorno had taken the liberty of explaining. He was such a smart boy, he certainly picked up what Holly had told him about the flowers. Agrimony, balloon flowers, celandine, globe amaranth, and a single red rose nestled in the middle.
He thanked Holly for her work and for allowing his son to work right beside her and was on his way to Diego’s.
“That’s fu… freaking sappy as heck, Dio.” Diego scoffed looking at the flowers Dio had in his hand, restraining from swearing when he saw Giorno holding Dio’s other hand.
“You’re merely jealous because you can’t do anything with your girlfriend this Valentine’s Day. Don’t worry though, dear brother, jealousy is so becoming of you.” Dio sneered in response, gently ushering Giorno forward. “Do take care of Giorno for me? Anything wrong with him when JoJo comes to pick him up and you will be facing consequences.” He turned to look at Giorno, kneeling to give him a hug. “I love you, Giorno.”
“Love you too, Father!” Giorno chirped, kissing Dio goodbye.
And Dio set off home, entering their house with a loud entrance.
“JoJo, I’m home!” He toed off his shoes and shucked off his jacket, holding the flower behind with anticipation, as JoJo walked over to him, clearly hiding something behind his back.
“Welcome home, Dio.” Jonathan smiled that angelic smile of his and Dio could have easily dropped the flowers and kissed him right there and then. They were alone afterall…
“Have you something there for me?” He asked, leaning over to try and catch a glimpse of what it was JoJo was hiding.
“I could ask the same for you.” Jonathan laughed. “How about we show each other on three.”
“Of course, JoJo, dearest.” And on the count of three the two of them showed each other the present they had gotten the other.
What they hadn’t expected was the two of them showing off exact replicas of the same bouquet.
“Oh…” JoJo flushed in the cheeks and sheepishly grinned.
“Oh indeed, you romantic minx. How dare you have the gall to get me the same present as you, from the same person no less.” Dio frowned, hiding his face with his free hand. JoJo could tell Dio was just embarrassed despite his harsh words.
“I still think it’s a beautiful display of affection. Thank you, love.” JoJo said placing his flowers on the table by the door and taking Dio’s bouquet and placing it in the same place. He looped his arms around Dio’s waist and held him close. “Thank you.”
“Happy Valentine’s Day. I adore you, my JoJo.” In their embrace, they kissed each other as if it were their first. Softly, innocently, but passionate.
I’m so thankful for you
For having you in my life;
This agrimony is proof
So let’s never have strife.
This balloon won’t pop,
I’m honest I swear
And I love you so much
This flower, with pride, I’ll wear.
Our future shall be bright,
Each day more joyous than the last
Some celandine for you
We’ll never look to the past.
Unfading is our love like
An amaranth of globe
I give all of myself to you
There’s no need to probe.
And last but not least
A single red rose
I love you my darling
I love you the most.
