I Wish

Summary:

For as long as Min Yoongi could remember, he’d gotten what he wanted. Always. Whatever he wished for, he was rewarded with, sometimes instantaneously. He begins to think that this makes him magic, like a wizard or something.

Little does he know it’s a healthy dose of divine intervention from his guardian angel, Hoseok. Hobi grants every one of Yoongi’s wishes. In the process, however, he falls in love with Yoongi.

So what happens when Yoongi wishes for his soulmate to appear?

Notes:

Hey guys! This is my first posed work and I’m really really nervous about it, so go easy on me. I’m not a professional, but I like writing. There may be some spelling or grammatical errors so I’m sorry if there are. Thanks to the wonderful @dailysobi on twitter for the idea and allowing me to write this for her!! BTW you can follow me on twitter if you like: @asj2001. I might write things in the future and I’ll probably post updates on there.

Chapter 1: The Fall

Chapter Text

For as long as Min Yoongi could remember, he’d gotten what he wanted. Always. Whatever he wished for, he was rewarded with, sometimes instantaneously. Like that time he’d wished for 10,000 won to buy himself something to eat. The lady in front of him had been digging in her purse, and somehow jostled it out. It flew across the sidewalk and landed under Yoongi’s foot. He picked it up, and like a good little gentleman, tapped her on the shoulder to give it back to her. She’d waved him off and told him to keep it. Yoongi’s eyes had widened to the size of dinner plates and he’d thanked her profusely before scurrying off to get something to eat. He swore that was the best damn meal of his life.

It’d gotten to the point that Yoongi believed he was somehow magical. That somewhere buried deep inside of him, he had powers that gave him whatever he asked for. He’d put that theory to the test after coming out of a job interview. The interviewer had been straight with him and told him his prospects weren’t good. He’d wanted this job so bad, he needed it, else he’d fucking starve selling his songs for 1,000 won. He slumped against the wall outside after the interview and begged the universe for this job, tears welling up in his eyes. The front door burst open and the interviewer, panting, told him he’d showed a few of Yoongi’s songs to his superior and he’d commanded him to hire Yoongi immediately.

That’s when Yoongi started to believe that he’d been blessed with powers he couldn’t even fathom. He didn’t use them super often, only when he really needed or wanted something, but he tried to use them in moderation. He didn’t want to spoil himself too much. It was hard to not go mad with power sometimes, seeing as his “powers” had only ever worked without fail. But, going with the words of the wise Uncle Ben, “With great power, comes great responsibility.” And so Yoongi was lucky. But little did he know, his powers were not buried deep within, but more of a ‘divine intervention’ deal.

“Are you busy granting that Yoongi guy’s wishes again?” Jimin asked Hoseok, who was busy staring dreamily over the cloud he was lying on down at the earth. Hobi didn’t respond and Jimin rolled his eyes.

“You know you’re not supposed to do that all the time Hobi- hyung… It’s not your place,” Jimin warned. Yes he was younger than Hoseok and he did have to respect him, but sometimes Hobi bent rules he wasn’t supposed to bend.

“But I’m his guardian angel Jimin! I’ve got to make sure he’s safe and happy, that’s my job!” Hoseok protested. Jimin shook his head in mild annoyance.

“That doesn’t mean you need to stalk him. Yoongi needs to fend for himself sometimes,” Jimin told him. “I know you’ve fallen in love with him but-”

“I haven’t fallen in love with him!” Hobi protested stubbornly. “I just take my job very seriously.” Jimin could tell by Hoseok’s tone that this conversation was over and there was no further discussion on whether or not he’d fallen in love with Min Yoongi.

“Whatever you say,” Jimin muttered, turning his attention back to his own charge.

Even with all of the things Yoongi had going for him, there was still one huge problem. He was lonely. Sure, he had work friends like Namjoon to hang out with, and a few friends in his personal life, but Yoongi was at a severe lack of romantic interests. Somewhat of a ‘love loser’ as he liked to call it. He signed up for a few dating sites but hadn’t had any luck yet. What was wrong with him, he wondered, that made no one want to love him. Meanwhile, up in the heavens, Hoseok was in a tizzy.

“He thinks there’s nothing about him to love and he’s wrong,” he complained to Jimin. “Cause I think there’s a lot about him to love.”

“Oh?” Jimin asked. He was genuinely curious as to what Hobi had to say about this topic. He’d had a sneaking suspicion that Hoseok did have a thing for his charge, quite a bit of a thing actually.

“Well, first of all, have you seen his smile Jimin? It’s the cutest thing in the world. And the way he makes those cute little noises when he’s trying to open his mouth wider when he’s eating? Adorable. I just- I think everything about him is lovable okay? Even his imperfections,” Hoseok said, gesturing rapidly to prove his point. Jimin nodded and puffed out his cheeks.

“You’ve totally got a thing for him,” he replied finally. Hoseok sat up from where he was laying on his back and glared at Jimin.

    “Do not,” he replied childishly.

“Oh come on hyung, it’s so obvious. You’re like a schoolgirl,” Jimin told him. Hobi’s cheeks heated up and he crossed his arms.

“Yeah, so what if I do like him?” he asked bitterly. Jimin’s eyes widened. He’d been trying to get Hoseok to admit for ages that he had a thing for Yoongi, and now that he finally had, Jimin had nowhere to go.

“Uh… I dunno… I guess,” Jimin sputtered, searching for an answer.

“Good for you. I’m glad you found someone,” Jimin said finally. Not that angels were supposed to fall in love, but he was really glad that Hobi had. Jimin found himself wishing that he too could find someone in fall in love with. As he thought about it, a dreamy little smile spread on his face. Sensing that Jimin would be no help, Hoseok turned back to his charge and swirled his fingers through the clouds with a fond little smile. Yoongi was working, passionately, he noted. Yoongi did almost everything with passion, but his music, his music was his life. And Hobi absolutely loved it. His favorite thing to do was to listen to Yoongi play piano. Yoongi was good at that, really good, and sometimes he’d just sit down at the piano and play for no reason other than because he wanted to. Hoseok often found himself swaying and dancing along to the sometimes familiar tunes, wishing with all of his heart that he could be there with Yoongi.

Min Yoongi did not do well with loneliness. It made him kinda depressed. He’d deactivated all of the dating accounts after a few months of inactivity. Finally, one day, out of nowhere, he snapped.

“Fuck this,” he muttered to himself. “I just wish my soulmate would show up already.” He knew that if he wished for it, that it would come true. He hoped. He really hoped it would. This would be the time his powers failed him. He sighed and forgot about it, choosing to focus on his work instead, hoping to distract himself from the intangible pain in his chest.

Hoseok, on the other hand, was heartbroken. On one hand, he really wanted to grant Yoongi’s wish and make him happy. On the other, however, he didn’t want to. He didn’t want Yoongi to be with anyone but him. It was a selfish thought, but he couldn’t help it. He knew angels weren’t supposed to be selfish, but he couldn’t help the feeling of jealousy that tugged in his heart when he thought of Yoongi with someone else. Did he risk hurting Yoongi for his own feelings? Or did he swallow his own and give Yoongi happiness?

After a long and difficult debate with himself, he made a decision. With a heavy heart, he flicked his hand to grant Yoongi’s wish. He felt a searing pain in his back and cried out. Hoseok dropped to his knees and whimpered in agony. Jimin, who always seemed to be nearby, rushed to his side and put a cool hand on the back of Hobi’s neck.

“Hyung! Are you okay?” Jimin asked shakily.

“I don’t know what’s wrong…” Hobi told him. Another pain shot through his back and up his pearly white wings.

“What’s happening? What did you do?” Jimin asked, worry clearly laced in his voice.

“Yoongi asked for his soul mate… So I granted his wish and then-” Hoseok cried out, unable to finish his sentence when the pain increased tenfold.

“H-Hoseok,” Jimin said shakily, staring at his wings with large eyes. “Your wings are disappearing.” Jimin stared in disbelief as he watched Hobi’s wings fade out of existence. He was losing his hold on the other man as Hoseok started to sink through the clouds.

“I’m falling!” Hobi cried in shock as he watched his hands disappear in the fluffy cloud beneath him. He looked at Jimin, who looked just as frightened as he felt. The heavens had always been a pleasant temperature to Hoseok, but now, the altitude was making him feel quite chilly. He watched his hands lose their ethereal glow, toned now with a melanin-infused tan. Hobi sunk farther into the clouds and shot a fear-frozen Jimin one last look before he finally fell.

Yoongi couldn’t sleep that night. There was something unexplained nagging at his mind. He’d paced around his apartment countless times and finally decided to venture outside. It was early in the morning, so he slid a jacket over his baggy hoodie just in case. He stepped outside and started down the sidewalk. Almost immediately he was met with a man lying in the middle of the sidewalk. He was about Yoongi’s age, dressed in all white. Yoongi watched him with a confused pout. He couldn’t be homeless, he was too well groomed for that. Drunk maybe? Yoongi leaned down putting two fingers to the man’s neck, checking for a pulse. He was bone cold and Yoongi cursed under his breath. He didn’t want to bring this stranger back to his apartment, but if he left him here he’d probably freeze to death. He also hadn’t been able to locate the man’s pulse either, so there was a distinct possibility that this guy was already dead. Yoongi searched in vain for a pulse before finally calling 119.

“119 what’s your emergency?”

“Hi, I think I found a dead guy on the sidewalk, but I’m not sure. I couldn’t find a pulse, but he might be alive? Could you send an ambulance or something?”

“What’s your location?” After prattling off his whereabouts, the nice operator lady told him it’d be only a few minutes before the ambulance showed up and that he wasn’t to touch the man any more just in case there needed to be a police investigation. Yoongi asked if he could drape his jacket over the guy and the operator said that was inadvisable, but if he felt it was necessary then he could do it.

After he hung up, he slid out of his jacket, ready to drape it over the other man. He paused, thinking about how this guy might be dead and that he might be about to drape his jacket over a dead body. Then he decided, either way, he wasn’t going to probably want that jacket anymore, so he did it to keep the guy warm. He tucked it snuggly around the guy’s neck before Yoongi noticed he was breathing. So he wasn’t dead. The man’s eyelids fluttered and he opened them hazily. And the first thing Jung Hoseok saw after his fall to earth was an angel.
