Chapter Text
Goro Majima remembered the first time he met Saaya Kawai. She was a selfish, self-entitled, spoiled brat who didn’t care about anyone but herself.
“What the hell?” Majima exclaimed as a man bumped into him on his way running over to the young woman in the pink coat. The man tripped over, dropping the cake he was holding. “Aw, shit! Now I’ve gone and done it…”
“Oh, now the cake is ruined,” the young woman said sadly as she looked down at the pitiful man on the ground. “Be a dear and buy me a new one, won’t you?”
The man stood up quickly, brushing the dirt off his clothes. “Yes! Of course, give me a minute…!” He said nervously, running off. The woman’s cell phone began to ring before she answered it. “You got something for me? Wow, amazing! Yes, I’ll be there soon.” She hung up just as the man returned, a brand new cake in his hands as he bowed and presented it to her. “Here, just for you!”
“Actually, I won’t be needing it anymore. Whoopsies,” she said with a half-hearted shrug. “And you went through all that trouble… Well, see you next time.”
The man walked away sadly, passing by Majima, who was spectating. “Hey, ya really gonna let some self-centered little diva walk all over you like that? Tch, pathetic! People like ya make me sick,” Majima said with an eyeroll.
“Excuse me.”
Majima turned and saw the woman standing before him. “What, ya got somethin’ to say?” He scoffed.
She nodded. “I really appreciate your honesty. Not many people are very open about expressing their feelings nowadays. It’s quite refreshing, to be honest.” She began to blush. “All these men just suck up to me. I never met someone who speaks their mind like you do.”
Majima squinted his eye and placed his hands on his hips. “Ya got a screw loose, lady?”
She giggled. “What’s your name?”
“The hell do I gotta tell ya my name for?” Majima spat, dismissing her with his hand. “But if it helps ya sleep at night, it’s Majima.”
“Well, Mr. Majima, my name is Saaya Kawai. I work as a hostess over at Jewel.” She pulled out her business card from her coat pocket and presented it to him. “Maybe you’d like to come by and have a drink, sometime.”
Majima was beginning to get annoyed. “Are ya serious? Why should I go and pay money to drink with a brat like you? I only drink with girls I like.”
Saaya bowed. “Then, I’ll promise to become the kind of girl you’d like!” She smiled. “If I bore you, you can get up and leave. But you’re gonna fall for me! Just wait and see.” She smiled and turned on her heel, walking away, leaving Majima rolling his eyes. Whatever, I guess I’ll go if I don’t have anything better to do.
The first time Majima met Saaya Kawai at the club was a regular Wednesday afternoon when he decided he didn’t have anything better to do.
“Welcome to Jewel,” the server greeted with a bow. “Would you like to request a specific hostess?”
“Yeah, lemme see the spoiled broad, Saaya,” Majima said, observing the gaudy atmosphere of the club. Everythin’ is so flashy and fake. Just like these hostesses.
“Uh, certainly,” the server said as he scurried away.
Majima was seated, waiting for her to show up as he impatiently scratched at the leather sofa. “Here’s Saaya!” The server presented, as she came out in a short, sparkly pink dress and a tiara as she bowed. “Wow, you really came to see me, huh?”
Majima shrugged. “Yeah yeah, I was just fuckin’ bored and decided to stop by.”
Saaya sat down next to him. “Oh, don’t be like that, Mr. Majima. I know you’re just trying to hide the fact that you wanted to see me.”
He shook his head. “Keep dreamin.’”
The first real heart-to-heart conversation Majima had with Saaya was surprisingly pleasant. A few glasses of cassis orange and two fruit baskets later, Majima was beginning to feel a little bit more comfortable. Of course, he didn’t let his guard down and wasn’t planning on doing so anytime soon.
He learned a lot about Saaya during their session. She was a twenty-one year old country girl from Gunma prefecture who grew up in the mountains, loves her Scottish Fold, Mon, and plans on becoming a professional manicurist.
“Ya ever plan on opening a manicure salon, or somethin’ like that?” Majima asked. Saaya shrugged and smiled. “I don’t know. Maybe. I really like doing my little cousin’s nails, and my own, of course.” She raised her hand to show Majima her long, sparkly pink nails. “Isn’t it cute?”
“I guess, I dunno about all them kinds of girly stuff,” he said as he shook his head. “But I’m sure you’d make lotsa girls happy if ya opened yer own salon. You’d make some good money.”
Saaya blinked. “Do you think I could?”
“Sure, why not? Yer still young, and if it’s somethin’ you’d want, I think even someone like ya could pull it off.”
Saaya playfully swatted him. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Majima rolled his eyes. “I never compliment just anybody, so take whatever ya want from what I said.”
The two continued to converse, smiling and laughing until the night was nearly over. “Oh, it’s that time already?” Saaya asked in surprise. “I guess so,” Majima replied.
Before Majima left, Saaya took his hand in hers. “Hey, I hope you had fun today. Maybe you’ll come and see me again?”
Majima chuckled as he pulled his hand away. “We’ll see. Don’t count on it.”
