Chapter Text

Being a father was far from easy. But Yamada Hizashi loved every second of the 6 years he and Shouta had with Hitoshi so far since adopting him. There were definitely rough spots, but Hizashi was HAPPY. He had an amazing husband. THREE amazing jobs. And he got to come home every day to his son’s happy and healthy face.

Except today.

Today Hizashi came home to find their apartment empty.

Since they adopted Hitoshi, Hizashi had cut back on his hero patrolling. He mostly went out when he was actually called in for a specific case. He spent most of his time split between his radio station, UA, and home. Most days he made sure he would be home around the same time as Hitoshi after school each day. His 10 year old walked to and from school every day, like almost everyone else his age in Japan. Even when Shouta had to stay at the school, Hizashi would bring home all his grading so that one of them was home. Hitoshi’s walk was only a ten minute walk tho, and he was almost always home and doing his homework on their coffee table by the time Hizashi got there.

So Hizashi was immediately a little worried when he stepped into their apartment and the lights were off.

“Toto?” He called out, not bothering to take off his shoes or even his speaker. “Totoooooo you home??”

A quick walkthrough of the apartment confirmed his son was not home. He glanced at the clock and frowned. Hitoshi definitely should have been home by now. He pulled out his phone and dialed the emergency phone they had given their son. It was only capable of making phone calls and texts…calls that went to voicemail.

Hizashi called the school next.

“This is Yamada Hizashi, I just wanted to see if my son Shinsou Hitoshi was still at the school.” He said to the secretary who answered.

“Let me check real quick!” She said cheerfully and then after only a few much too brief seconds. “Um, Shinsou Hitoshi was listed as absent from classes today.”

Hizashi hung up on her and dialed his husband in panic. Hizashi had most definitely seen Hitoshi leave for school this morning. He even had to chase the kid down the block a little to give him his bento he had forgotten.

“Yea.” Shouta picked up after a few rings.

“Shouta please tell me you know where Hitoshi is.” Hizashi said in one quick breath.

“Um…school?”

“NO Shou! I just got off the phone with the school he was marked absent all day and he’s not home!” Hizashi was running around the apartment again, doing a more thorough search. He was flinging open cupboards, the washing machine, flinging back the shower curtain.

“Im coming home. Did you check the tracker?” Shouta said.

“Oh god I forgot. One sec.” Hizashi brought the phone away from his face and tabbed over to an app he hadn’t had to use since they set up the parental tracker on Hitoshi’s phone. He was sure his fingers were going to crack the screen with how hard he was gripping it, waiting for the gps to locate his son’s phone.

Location found.

“WHAT THE FUCK!?” Hizashi screamed as he stared at the little gps dot, his quirk shaking the apartment a little. “whatthefuckwhatthefuckwhatthefuck.”

He chanted over and over until he remembered Shouta was still on the line.

“Shou his phone is in the WAREHOUSE DISTRICT!” Hizashi was nearly crying, already halfway out the door.

“Send me the location. I’ll call the police and meet you there.”

Hizashi flew out the door and into their car. His phone said the drive to the warehouse district was fifteen minutes, he made it in ten. Ten agonizing minutes. He tried desperately to shove down the ‘what ifs’ that were welling up along with his tears. He pulled his car into an alleyway about a block away from the GPS dot. His hero instincts briefly taking over, telling him to approach with caution. Apparently his husband had the same idea because the minute he opened his door and stepped out, a rustling of fabric whooshed over his head and Shouta dropped down into the alley from the rooftops, fully decked in his hero suit an using his capture scarf as a rope.

“The police are on their way. They said two other students from the school have been reported missing. None of their parents are pro heroes so it’s unlikely we were the target.” Shouta said, all business, tho Hizashi could hear the unsteady breathing that gave away his husbands fear. One of their biggest fears was someone using Hitoshi as a way to get to his dads. Which was exactly why Hizashi had cut back on his patrolling. Shouta was an underground hero and very few people knew Eraserheads true identity, so he still patrolled very often. But still…a disgruntled former student or…Hizashi didn’t know, he didn’t want to think about that.

“Are we waiting for the police?” Hizashi forced himself to whisper.

“Hell no.”

Hizashi sighed in relief and began slinking his way toward the location of Hitoshi’s phone, Shouta following. They were led to an old brick and mortar office building, long since abandoned. Several windows on the front of the building were completely missing so the two had no problem letting themselves quietly into the building where their sons phone, and hopefully their son were within.

They entered and were met with an out of service elevator and a stair case. One flight going up, one going down.

“Ill go down. You check up.” Shouta said, moving cat like down the stairs. Hizashi climbed up slowly, ears open. He wished he had grabbed the remote for his hearing aids out of his car, he would have turned them up all the way. He reached the next floor and, as quietly as he could, peeked into all the old offices and closets.

Nothing.

Up he went. Until on the 3rd floor, as he was peeking in an office, he heard a noise further down that made him freeze. It was a man’s voice. He moved quickly to the door it was coming from and knelt down, listening.

“Teramoto has the kids. We’ll deliver in 45. Just make sure you have the money.”

Hizashi overheard and his blood went a little cold. The kids. The gruff voice wasn’t answered, so he assumed the man was speaking on the phone. Where are the kids? Hizashi needed to know. He was about to spring into the room when footsteps indicated that the man inside was in fact coming towards Hizashi in the hall.

When he stepped through the door, Hizashi launched himself at the man, tackling him to the ground. He briefly considered using his quirk, but he needed this man to be able to hear him. And tho he was not anywhere near as skilled as his husband at hand to hand, he was still a pro hero and could hold his own. In a flash he had the man pinned against the linoleum, one hand wrapped around his neck to prevent him from yelling, one knee in his chest.

“Where are the kids?” Hizashi hissed. The man just glared at him and continued to struggle. Hizashi pushed his knee harder into the man’s chest.

“Where. Are. The. Kids?” Hizashi repeated.

“Teramoto has them!” The man wheezed, barely more than a whisper.

“Where is Teramoto?”

“I don’t know!”

Hizashi used his free hand to grab the man’s wrist, he twisted it violently and felt the snap of bone and the man beneath him cried out.

“WHERE IS TERAMOTO.” Hizashi probably shouldn’t have done that, but at the moment he didn’t care.

“The loading dock. In the cannery. It’s the next building over.” The man said through tears.

“You messed with the wrong fucking kid.” Hizashi seethed. He gripped the man by the scalp, lifted his head, and brought it slamming back down against the floor. The man’s eyes fluttered shut, unconscious. Hizashi dug the man’s phone out of his pocket and chucked it down the hallway as he heard steps approach. He glanced up to see Shouta who tossed him a pair of hand cuffs from one of his belt pouches.

“Loading dock. Next building.” Hizashi said as he cuffed the unconscious man to a door knob. He’d send the police back for this guy. Right now, he was going to go find his son and make sure whoever Teramoto was regretted the day he was born.
