It was the day of love in Liverpool, England. February 14th, Valentine’s day. Jonathan lie on his bed wondering what to do on this day. He got up and looked out the window, seeing all the couples walking to and from the town. He felt some sort of sadness in his heart since Erina suddenly stopped talking to him all those years ago. Even though he still feels the heartbreak of that moment, he wondered if anyone else out there would make him feel the same way she did. He thought for a bit, he wasn’t completely sad about it after this long, it still hurt but he then remembered all the great times he’d been having with his friend Robert lately. He smiled, those memories made it feel like his heartbreak never happened and he never questioned why.
“Oh, wait he said he was coming by today. Something about a surprise plan,” Jonathan remembered. “I wonder what it could be,” he said to himself. As if it was timed, he heard a knock on the door and a butler opened the door.
“Your guest has arrived, Mister Joestar,” he said.
“Ah, thank you! I’ll be down right now,” Jonathan replied as he grabbed his peacoat and scarf. He was really looking forward t the surprise his friend had. He almost rushed down the stairs, almost unable to contain himself, and there in front of the doorway was his best friend, Robert Speedwagon. He smiled and gave him a big hug without even thinking.
“Oh, nice to see you too, Mister Joestar!” Robert laughed nervously.
Jonathan let go and chuckled “Sorry, I’ve been really looking forward to your idea for today! Being cooped up in here has been a little suffocating.” He began putting on his jacket and scarf quickly.
“Mister Joestar hold on,” Robert sighed and removed the scarf from Jonathan’s neck, he then adjusted it so he was wearing it properly and, well, a presentable gentleman. “We’re not doing anything too fancy, but I can’t let you go out looking silly.” Robert chuckled then looked up into Jonathan’s eyes. He seemed to get lost in them for a few seconds, not even removing his hands rom the scarf.
Jonathan stared back a little confused “Robert, are you alright?” He asked. As beautiful as his friend’s eyes were, they were standing in the middle of the foyer.
“Oh, yes,” the smaller one shook his head “Just got a little distracted I suppose. I’m hoping you’ll enjoy what I have in plan for us.” Robert turned away, began towards the door and the two headed out into the light snow.
As they sat in the carriage to their destination, which was still a secret to Jonathan, he found himself a little unsteady. The surprise factor was eating him alive. Finally, he turned to Speedwagon and blurted “So what is it? Where are we going? I really want to know!”
“It wouldn’t be a surprise if I told you,” The blond chuckled “You’ll have to wait Mister Joestar.”
Jonathan let out a long sigh “Alright but at least let go of the formality, it’s Jonathan or JoJo. I told you before, we’ve been through quite a bit so there’s no reason to keep that up.”
“Alright, alright Mister- I mean- Jonathan.”
Eventually the wagon came to a stop and Jonathan hopped out, they were on a strip of shops and restaurants. Speedwagon gout out behind him, paid the driver, and then dusted off his clothes.
“So, which place is it, Robert?” Jonathan asked a little giddy.
“This way, JoJo,” Robert said. He suddenly felt a warmth around his hand and paused, he looked down and saw Jonathan clasping it.
“Go on, it’s so we don’t lose each other,” Jonathan said. There’s not a lot of people out, why am I suddenly doing this? Maybe it’s just the air? He was puzzled by his own actions. His friend didn’t say a word, he just smiled and lead on.
The two came to a stop at a restaurant that had a strong, succulent aroma coming from it. The place even looked expensive, Jonathan was confused as to how Speedwagon could afford such a spot. “Is this it, Robert?” Jonathan asked.
“Yeah, this is it, I’ve even made reservations,” Speedwagon replied. “Come.” The duo headed inside, and Jonathan was overwhelmed with the scents that filled his nose. The wondrous smell of perfectly seasoned foods, the sound meat sizzling from the back of the restaurant, the surprising low chatter from how good the food was. There were few people dining but those that were all looked of high status like Jonathan, he felt a little intimidated.
“Ah, Speedwagon with a part of two?” A hostess asked, snapping Jonathan out of his daze.
“Yes, ma’am,” Speedwagon replied, they were then led to their seats.
“It’s quite the honor to have you here, Mister Joestar.” The hostess seemed nervous “We will try to give you the best we can.”
“Oh, please, my status means nothing, I’m sure your chefs make delicious food!” Jonathan said with a bright smile “Don’t mind me.” The hostess nodded still looking anxious then walked away.
“Ahh I’m sorry, I really did not think it through that everyone would recognize you and the stakes would feel high,” Robert apologized “Come to think of it we could’ve just eaten at your mansion,” he sighed. He removed his jacket and scarf and draped them over the back of his seat.
“Robert, Robert, please don’t fret. I’d much rather be out on the town with you than home.”
“Really?” Speedwagon looked embarrassed and hiding behind his hat.
“Of course, Robert, you’re great company and the best company I could ask for, if I’m honest,” Jonathan confessed. He saw his friend hide more behind his hat.
“J-JoJo, you’re too kind,” The blond stuttered.
Eventually a waitress came over asking for their orders, the two told her their meal of choice in which she promptly left. The two sat for a bit not really making conversation or anything, just sipping the tea they were brought.
“So, Valentine’s Day, huh?” Jonathan said looking solemnly into his cup.
“Heh, yeah it really is today, huh? What a coincidence, I totally forgot that was today,” Speedwagon chuckled nervously.
“Really? You’re pretty keen on remembering things, Robert, you really forgot a whole holiday?” Jonathan looked slightly shocked.
“Y-yeah, I really did. I guess I was so busy making the plans for today I forgot,” Robert said but he seemed to be having a hard time saying it naturally “I guess that would explain the fireworks display I was going to ask you to go to afterwards.”
“Fireworks, huh?” Jonathan said still solemn “It sounds really nice, Robert, I wouldn’t mind going.”
His friend wore a concerned expression “Jonathan, are you alright? You seem distracted which isn’t like you.”
“Just- “The blue haired one began; their food was brought out and put in front of them. They thanked the waitress and began eating. Jonathan spoke in between his bites “- I guess I’ve been having a lonely feeling lately. It’s strange, honestly. Last time I felt this, it was because of Dio, but this time it’s because I feel like I’m missing- “ He thought of how to word it “- Someone’s touch, I suppose? I just wish I had someone to spend this holiday with the way everyone else around us does.”
“I understand whole heartedly, Jonathan,” Robert replied “I had my gang but I’ve never felt anyone else’s touch that isn’t in the form of a fight or aggression even when we weren’t fighting, it’s not like any of us were more than friends.”
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry, Robert, I didn’t even think about that,” Jonathan looked more saddened “I should have considered how hard you’ve had it compared to me, I’m sorry.”
“Jonathan, please, don’t apologize! I wasn’t saying that to sound like I had it worse, I just understand your position,” Robert confessed. Silence fell for a couple of minutes.
“A-anyways,” Jonathan broke the silence “What I’m trying to say is, the only times I haven’t felt lonely and felt whole again are when I’m with you, Robert.” Jonathan saw as Speedwagon abruptly began choking on his tea and he looked horrified. “Oh my god, are you going to be alright?” he gasped.
After a few more coughs and a clear of his throat the blond replied “Y-yes, JoJo, I’m fine that was just very unexpected.” Robert smiled “I’ll be honest, I feel the same way and that’s why I invited you out today,” he confessed “I didn’t forget the date, I purposefully didn’t want you to be a lone on this day.”
“Robert,” Jonathan said breathlessly, unsure of how to handle the information he was just told. What is this feeling I’m feeling? Why is the lump in my heart and the pit of my stomach suddenly gone? Why do I feel so happy it’s reciprocated?
“I heard that if you don’t want to attend the fireworks display, since it will be cold, that it can be seen from your house. We’d- um- have to watch it from the front room. Or we don’t even have to watch it all, it’s just a suggestion.”
Jonathan was suddenly overwhelmed with thoughts that were flying through his head, he had thoughts of spending his day with his friend as more than friends. Imagining them as a couple instead of just friends, it made him cover his face.
“Jonathan?”
He had to gather himself and think, he finally got it together and replied “Actually, Robert, going back home and maybe having dessert seems nice. Maybe we could share some chocolates, relax and have it be just us two on this day.” He spoke without even speaking of the ideas he was spewing out.
“Share chocolates? Isn’t that a romantic thing, Jonathan?” Speedwagon chuckled.
“Unless you have better plans, Robert,” Jonathan teased. His friend couldn’t retaliate from that one.
“Fine, it does sound. . . Nice,” Robert confessed while looking away.
“Then it’s date,” Jonathan chuckled.
Robert paid for their meal and the two left, they walked down the small strip of stores looking for chocolates. Eventually they reached a sweets shop, purchased themselves a box of chocolates and caught a ride back to the Joestar mansion. The two found themselves really talkative towards each other all of a sudden, a big difference than the ride there, they laughed and smiled as they headed into the mansion. They hung their coats and hats on the coatrack, removed their shoes and then headed upstairs to Jonathan’s room. Jonathan turned on the gramophone and they sat down on his big bed. They smiled as they opened the chocolates then began eating them. At some point they began feeding each other the chocolates without a second thought.
This is the feeling, this is the feeling I missed. Sharing my life with someone I care about deeply.
“Jonathan, here,” Speedwagon held up a chocolate “Hold this on your tongue, I saw a couple people play this game.”
“Um okay?” Jonathan said quizzically but he did as his friend said. The blond set the small chocolate on Jonathan’s tongue.
“The point of it is for me to take the chocolate off your tongue with mine,” the blond explained.
“Oh okay, that’s interesting, it sounds fun?” He said with his mouth open still a bit confused, but he was all for it, not even really considering what was about to happen,
Speedwagon leaned in close, closed his eyes and then pressed their mouths together softly. It was silent for a bit, Jonathan was in a shock but a good kind of shock, as if it felt right. The blond did exactly as he said, he took the chocolate from Jonathan’s tongue then pulled away to eat it. Jonathan felt a sense of wanting more, though.
“What did you think, JoJo?” Robert asked nervously “I can’t say I didn’t know where that was going to go.”
Jonathan seemed dazed, almost unable to answer when he mumbled “Please, do it again, Robert.”
“I can’t hear you if you mumble, Jonathan, we do have music playing after all,” The blond chuckled. As if Jonathan wasn’t controlling his body anymore he set the chocolates aside, leaned in close with his arms encasing his smaller friend and kissed him deeply. They both closed their eyes, seeming to be lost in each other. Nothing else filled the room besides classical music and the sound of cloth being moved. Jonathan found himself on top of Robert as they continued to kiss. They pulled back to breath, they stayed close to each other’s faces, feeling each other’s warmth and heart’s racing. “Jonathan, I- I’ve been trying to say this for a long time,” Robert panted “With everything we’ve been through, I think I might- “He looked at Jonathan’s lips then back up into his eyes “I have really strong feelings for you, one might even call it love,” He confessed. “I know that’s a strong word but you’re always on my mind with various thoughts I’ve never had about anyone else and- “he was stopped by another deep kiss. He wrapped his arms around Jonathan’s neck to pull him closer.
“I understand, Robert,” Jonathan responded “Even though I’ve been grieving about losing Erina all those years ago, you’re the only person who’s made me feel the way she did, maybe even better. When I think about you, I feel a warmth in my chest and it seems that all my problems go away.” Jonathan ran a hand through the blond’s luscious locks and then ran it down his back to his thigh.
“Jonathan,” Robert said breathlessly, he pulled Jonathan back into a kiss.
After this kiss, Jonathan began kissing Robert’s neck softly, getting a quiet moan out of him. He unbuttoned the smaller one’s shirt and ran his hands down his torso as he kept peppering his neck with kisses. “J-Jonathan,” Robert slightly moaned. Jonathan felt a rush from hearing Speedwagon say his name in such a way.
“Isn’t this better than fireworks?” Jonathan joked as he kissed Robert again while still feeling him.
“Yes, it is,” Robert chuckled nervously “Much better.”
“Happy Valentine’s day, my love,” Jonathan said with another kiss.
