Chapter 1: Time
To begin our tale, we must reflect on a story of old. Centuries ago, there was a powerful being.
Every creature that was made by this being called him the great “Creator”, as his powers to create were far vaster than any creature of Ninjagan origin. The great Creator was said to have made many things: the lands of Ninjago, and the creatures he graced its surface with. He shaped the world so every creature had a purpose, whether they knew it or not, and each creature was gifted with the ability to create or destroy of their own will.
For many a century, the great Creator wandered, examining the lands he made. It grew apparent to him that he would grow old, and eventually his magics would fade from the world he’d come to love so much.
However, without haste, he wandered until he found himself a solution. There was a race he created, known as humans, which he’d become fond of. Their own ability to create mirrored his own, and he found himself smiling each time they found excitement in a simple activity. Of course, the humans were not all good, but their ability to change and shift the balance of Ninjago also interested the great Creator.
It wasn’t long before the great Creator found himself caring for two sons, both of equal love and opportunity. Wu, the son with a love of nature and life, strived to learn and care for many things while under their father’s care. And Lord, the son with a passion for magic, strove to experiment and design many creatures, for hopes of gaining his father’s pride.
When the great Creator found himself on his deathbed, he gathered his two sons before him with a final gift. With his last breath, he split his magic in two, gifting it to his sons for hope that their own passions would drive them forward in life.
Wu and Lord, now alone, found themselves sharing a kingdom. Splitting it equally between themselves, the two sons found their own happiness in ruling the side they were given. Wu, ruling with peace and compassion, brought a sense of security and unity to the people who looked to him for guidance. Over time, he was called the “Wise” king.
Lord, using fear and force to bring the people of his side of the kingdom to their knees, often found himself using his magics to destroy rather than create. The people of his kingdom dubbed him the “Dark” king.
Over time, Lord began to resent his brother’s peace and happiness. Using magic that was considered dangerous and forbidden by their father’s hand, Lord began to construct creatures, using the poor souls of his kingdom’s subjects, that would obey him without question as a vicious people and merciless army. These creatures were forged with the element of darkness itself, a combination of Lord’s hate and the evil his magic manifested as, granting them power over the humans of Wu’s kingdom.
They were stronger, faster, and capable of hunting the human race to its extinction without a second thought to the families of the people they slayed. In other words, they were the perfect soldiers.
Now armed with an army of deadly force and number, Lord sent his evil creations on the attack, directing them to war with Wu’s kingdom. Wu, finding Lord’s actions disgraceful, asked the citizens of his kingdom to defend themselves under his command. He would not force them to fight if he could help it.
Those that accepted the wise king’s request took up arms and marched to the kingdom’s borders, aware of their coming doom. Their power was nothing compared to that of the darkness, after all.
However, as Lord’s army approached on the horizon, Wu came to a conclusion. He asked his citizens what they would give to defend their kingdom, their families, and their homes. Their response was... everything .
This satisfied Wu, knowing that the people would remain united in battle, in casting a powerful spell upon the citizens united to fight against the same darkness that was the wise king’s brother. This spell granted the citizens of his kingdom power over the elements of old, granting them abilities they couldn’t’ve imagined. Some gained the ability to control fire, others water, others wind and so on. And together united, they were prepared for this battle.
However, the magic that Wu shared with his beloved people aged him considerably, and the young king found himself with barely enough strength to direct his people to battle. Armed with the power of their king, Wu’s people fought valiantly, driving the monstrous creatures back to the kingdom from whence they came. Though the humans slayed many, and lost some of their numbers in the battle, they were thankful to have the help their king offered them.
However, that battle may have been the first , but it certainly wasn’t the last...
