Work Text:
“Yoongi, did you get Seokjin's text?” Jimin called from the other room. Yoongi furrowed his brows and pulled his headphones off, not even bothering to pause the music that was still blasting through them.
“What?” He asked, spinning his computer chair around to face the other man as he walked into the room.
“Seokjin's text,” Jimin sighed, walking up to him with crossed arms. “You know, the invite to his annual Halloween party?”
“Oh, right,” Yoongi drawled, turning back to his laptop. “That party.”
“Yeah. That party. I've already responded to him letting him know that we're coming,” Jimin told him even as Yoongi rolled his eyes. “Just for that I'm offering you up to help him with decorating,’’ he added blankly while typing quickly on his phone. Yoongi sighed and turned back to face his laptop, ready to put his headphones back on and continue to ignore the situation.
Halloween had never really been Yoongi's favourite holiday, to say the least. Not that he had a favourite holiday in the first place, but it just made his point even truer. The only holiday he even remotely liked was Valentine's and even that was only because they offered couple's discounts that he and Jimin loved to take advantage of.
Dressing up in silly costumes and going up and down the street bothering strangers wasn't something Yoongi thought of as fun, and he couldn't understand just why Jimin loved it so much.
In a way though, it didn't matter. He had decided to put up with it for as long as it made Jimin happy. Even though they had talked things over years ago and had agreed to not label themselves, Yoongi still felt undeniably in love with Jimin. He would do anything if it meant being able to see Jimin smile.
“Do you know what you want to wear?” Jimin asked excitedly, drawing Yoongi's attention back to him. Yoongi could only shrug.
“I'll figure something out. Probably.”
“And by that do you mean 'grab the first thing out of the closet’?” Jimin teased as he pointedly crossed his arms across his chest.
Yoongi paused and was about to protest that he wasn't trying to say that when Jimin simply raised an eyebrow and tilted his head slightly to the left. Instead, he sighed and slumped back in his chair.
“... Yeah.”
“Thought so,” Jimin giggled. “Why don't you pick something out now so I can at least approve of it first.”
Yoongi only grumbled slightly as he got up and slowly made his way into their room and over to the closet. He pulled out a couple of outfits and laid them out on their shared bed as he waited for Jimin to inspect them.
Jimin came in a few moments later with two mugs of steaming coffee and set them down on the bedside table.
“Alright, let's see what you've got here,” Jimin said with a smile as he looked over at the clothes.
His smile dropped pretty quickly as he took in Yoongi's fashion choices.
“Yoongi, I'm not sure what you're trying to do with this one,” Jimin muttered as he held up a pair of old pants and an extremely tacky plaid shirt while giving an accusing stare to the jacket that was very much out of season. “But this gives off that homeless person aura and I don't think that would be appropriate.”
“Alright, what about the next one?” Yoongi asked as he took a huge gulp of the coffee and instantly regretted it as his taste buds were seared.
Jimin sighed and looked at the next outfit, black skinny jeans, an oversized black shirt, a black bucket hat and a black face mask, before looking at him in disappointment.
“And what is this supposed to be?”
“My soul,” Yoongi replied nonchalantly as he took another sip of his stupidly hot coffee.
Jimin only stared at him blankly for a moment before shoving all the clothes he had set out in a pile.
“What was the problem with that!?” Yoongi asked, gesturing to the black ensemble.
"Yoongi, I don't care what you say, you can't just dress up in all black, say you're going as your soul and call it a day."
"Jiminnie, you know I don't like parties," Yoongi replied gruffly, swirling his coffee around in the mug.
"I know,” Jimin answered with a sigh, “but I'm not about to let you offend Seokjin hyung again this year with a half-assed costume."
"My costume last year wasn't offensive!"
"Yoongi, you literally dressed in street clothes and said you were 'that person who doesn't want to be there’,” Jimin pointed out and, well, there wasn't much Yoongi could say since it was the truth.
“All I'm asking is that you actually make an effort this year,” Jimin said softly as he made his way over to Yoongi and placed a gentle hand on his cheek.
Yoongi leaned into his touch and moved to hold Jimin's much smaller hand in his own. He wrapped his other arm around Jimin's waist and lovingly placed a kiss on his forehead.
“Maybe I should just pick your costume for you this time,” Jimin mumbled as he melted into Yoongi's embrace.
“Maybe you should,” Yoongi replied and Jimin stepped back in surprise.
“Wait, you would let me?”
Yoongi shrugged nonchalantly.
“Just none of those embarrassing and cringy couple costumes, ok?”
Jimin laughed and hugged him tightly, leaning his forehead on Yoongi's shoulder.
“Don't worry, I won't pick one of those,” Jimin giggled and tightened his arms around Yoongi. “You can pick mine if you want.”
“Are you sure you really want that?” Yoongi whispered and Jimin shrugged.
“Just please actually make an effort so that it isn't too bad.”
“I make no promises,” Yoongi teased and kissed his cheek. Jimin flicked his forehead in response but still smiled endearingly and Yoongi couldn't help the smile that found its way onto his face either.
“You do realize what this means though,” Jimin said a moment later and Yoongi hummed questioningly. “I have to take you shopping.”
~
It was safe to say that after the fifteenth rejected costume, Yoongi was sick and tired of even putting them on. He cursed his past self for being too soft for Park Jimin and even allowing this to happen in the first place, but it wasn't like he had much choice now.
Jimin had already dropped off some stereotypical pirate outfit and Yoongi hated it already. He didn't even want to put it on but at the same time, he also didn't want to have to deal with Jimin pouting and making puppy dog eyes at him. It was a weakness of his and Jimin never failed to take advantage of that fact.
With a sigh, he pulled out the costume and grimaced once he had finished putting it on. It was awkward and didn't exactly fit him nicely and to say that Yoongi wasn't a fan of it was the absolute minimum he would allow.
“Are you ready?” Jimin's overenthusiastic voice called from outside and Yoongi tried to hide the disgust as he stepped out of the changeroom.
“Oh that doesn't look too bad,” Jimin muttered to himself as he made Yoongi turn around several times.
“Jimin,” Yoongi sighed, positive that he looked and sounded exactly as tired as he felt. “Are we almost done? I really don't like this.”
Jimin's face fell and Yoongi began to panic slightly until he held up some blue, red and white fabric.
“Fine, just try on this last thing that I found. I have a really good feeling about this one,” he said as he passed the clothes over. Yoongi agreed and went back inside the changeroom to take off the awful pirate costume.
The final outfit that Jimin had picked out was the best of them all, Yoongi decided quickly. The fabric had a nice feel to it and actually fit quite nicely. He looked in the mirror and instead of seeing himself standing there awkwardly, he saw a prince staring back at him.
He opened the door and Jimin gasped.
“Yoongi that looks…” he trailed off and his cheeks reddened. Yoongi felt himself flush as well when Jimin came up and held out a white cape, fastening it over his shoulders.
“There. Perfect,” he murmured, taking a step back to admire his handiwork. For the first time, Yoongi didn't feel awkward or immediately hate a costume, and the way that it made Jimin blush adorably was a plus.
He turned around experimentally and let the cape swish around behind him. He looked up at Jimin and smiled.
“Do you like it?” He asked and Jimin giggled.
“I love it, Yoongi. But my opinion doesn't matter here. Do you like it?”
Yoongi hesitated and fiddled awkwardly with the material of the cape.
“I hate to admit it, but yeah. I like it.”
Jimin brightened and ran up to hug him.
“Then we'll get it.”
“Does this mean that I'm your prince now?” Yoongi teased just to hear Jimin's laugh again.
“Don't be silly,” Jimin answered with a twinkle in his eye as he reached up and booped Yoongi's nose. “You were always my prince.”
Yoongi couldn't help but stare deep into Jimin's beautiful eyes. He had once (jokingly) said that anyone who gets drawn in by those eyes would fall in love with him, and little did he expect that it would one day become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
“Oh come on,” Yoongi whispered teasingly. “Don't say stuff like that in public, it's embarrassing. At least save it for when we get home.”
“But how could I when you're out here looking this good?” Jimin winked and Yoongi laughed. “I have to appreciate that whenever I can get it.”
“Are you saying that I don't look good most of the time?”
Jimin hummed and tapped his chin in an exaggerated fashion.
“Hmm, let me think about that one-”
“Never mind. I don't want to know the answer to that question,” Yoongi turned around and began to walk away. Jimin hurried to catch up and backhugged him, locking his hands around Yoongi's waist.
“Yoongi, I'm sorry. You know that I love you,” Jimin whispered as he nuzzled his nose into Yoongi's nape.
“Oh, I think you should save your apology until after I choose your costume,” Yoongi grinned as an idea came to him.
“Oh no-” Jimin began as Yoongi disentangled himself from the hug and started walking toward the clothes. “What are you planning?”
“Not telling,” Yoongi answered and did his best to ignore Jimin's legendary pout.
Despite all of that, picking out Jimin's costume for him was a bit more difficult than Yoongi had expected. His costume taste was about the farthest thing from Jimin's and the last thing he wanted to do was disappoint the younger man, even though he knew that's probably what would end up happening anyway.
“Are you really sure you want me to pick yours for you?” Yoongi asked for what must have been the millionth time.
“For the last time Yoongi, yes I'm sure,” Jimin sighed and swatted at his arm. “I'm the one who suggested it in the first place and it really wouldn't be fair if I didn't follow through with my end of the deal.”
“That's fair enough,” Yoongi agreed, starting to look through the clothes racks. Jimin followed behind curiously as he rejected shirt after shirt, looking for the perfect one.
“What type of shirt are you looking for?” Jimin asked after Yoongi had moved on to the next set and carefully inspected each one.
“A solid colour that would look good. Preferably white,” he answered as he held up a white shirt but frowned when he saw that it was a button up.
“Yoongi, I have white shirts at home, you know that right?” Jimin said offhandedly but Yoongi only shook his head and waved him off.
“I know, but this isn't something I want to use one of your shirts for,” he replied as he finally pulled out a plain white shirt. “Check if this one fits.”
He tossed the shirt over to Jimin who just sighed and pulled it on over top of his clothes.
“There. Does it look alright?” Jimin asked, turning every which way and looking back at Yoongi for approval.
“It'll do,” Yoongi nodded his head, a small smile forming on his lips. Jimin looked somewhat confused but took off the white shirt and handed it back to him.
“Do we need to get anything else for this? Or do we already have the rest?” He asked and Yoongi thought for a moment.
“That's up to you, really. The shirt is the only thing we had to buy, but you can get pants and stuff if you want,” Yoongi said absentmindedly.
“Okay then?” Jimin seemed even more confused than he had been before, but that was alright. “Can you tell me what my costume is going to be now?”
“Nope,” Yoongi answered with a sly grin. “You're just gonna have to wait and see.”
Jimin grumbled a bit but eventually stopped asking. As they were walking to the checkout, Jimin paused and squeezed Yoongi's hand.
“Yoongi, I'm just going to use the bathroom, ok? Can you check out and I'll meet you outside?”
Yoongi agreed and let go of Jimin's hand, already missing the warmth that he brought.
“I'll be right back, sorry.”
Jimin ran off and, sensing his chance, Yoongi quickly grabbed one other thing after quickly scanning it and deeming it alright. He paid for all three items and made sure to hide the last one at the very bottom of the bag before waiting for Jimin to return.
It didn't take very long before Jimin walked up to him and allowed Yoongi to relace their fingers together. They walked home hand in hand, a gentle warmth blooming in their chests like the flower of love.
~
It had been a few days since their shopping trip and Yoongi had somehow managed to keep the costume a secret from Jimin. If Jimin was one thing (other than cute, of course), it was dedicated.
And now here they were. October 31st. Since Jimin had oh-so-kindly volunteered him to help out, Yoongi was about to walk over to Seokjin's house. Once he was free from that, he would come back and they would change before heading right back over for the party.
“I'm leaving now!” He called over his shoulder as he slipped on his shoes, knowing that Jimin was in the shower.
The walk over wasn't bad in the least and the plastic bag in his hand felt heavier than it actually was. Luckily and unluckily, Seokjin only lived a few blocks away. Lucky because it didn't take very long to get there. Unlucky because that same fact meant that he could never use distance as an excuse for skipping out on the party.
Yoongi knocked on the door and watched as it was promptly flung open by Seokjin himself.
“Yoongi! You made it!” He cheered, brushing his longish bangs out of his eyes.
“Yeah. You dyed it back to black?” Yoongi asked, gesturing to his hair and Seokjin laughed.
“Yeah, my roots were starting to grow in and, as much as I loved the brown, I hate doing touch-ups. So the brown had to go,” he answered with a smile. “Come on in.”
Yoongi took his shoes off in the front hall and kept the bag close to himself. There were already some decorations up, but there didn't seem to be anyone else in the house yet.
“Hyung, where can I put this bag?” Yoongi asked, holding it up slightly. Seokjin looked at it for a moment before shrugging.
“Put it wherever, just don't forget it.”
“I'm just going to leave it in your bedroom then,” he told Seokjin and the older man just gave him a thumbs up.
“The decorations that still have to go up are in there too, so grab them on your way out if you could,” Seokjin added as Yoongi began to walk away. The decorations weren't hard to find, a small blessing, he supposed, and brought them over into the front hall.
“So what do you want me to do?” Yoongi asked as he opened up the giant bin that contained them and stared at the plethora of decorations that stared right back.
Seokjin glanced over from where he was taping a large 'Happy Halloween’ banner to the wall.
"Those all go out front,” he answered before turning his attention back to the top left corner that had decided that it apparently didn't want to stay attached to the wall. “Just make it look nice, I guess.”
“I make no promises,” Yoongi muttered but carried the decorations out anyway, completely ignoring Seokjin's curse as the banner fell down into a heap on the floor.
Even though Yoongi didn't like doing work all that much and liked Halloween even less than that, he still refused to half-ass anything that wasn't a costume. He set up the decorations outside on the front lawn - even standing back and nitpicking over just how close to a tree this one light should be - until there wasn't a single one left in the bin.
It looked decent, in his opinion, but then again he wasn't someone who was good at design. It would probably be subpar by Seokjin's standards, but it was the best he could do.
Yoongi carried the empty bin back into the house, paused to glance over at Seokjin who was still fighting with the banner and kept walking until he dropped it off right where he had found it. He walked back over to Seokjin and grabbed the banner from him before he got too stressed and would inevitably end up destroying it.
“Here, I'll help,” Yoongi told him as he held it up to the wall.
“Thanks, I really appreciate it. This stupid thing was driving me nuts,” Seokjin glared at the banner again. “There isn't really anything else you have to do so once this banner is up you can head back home to get ready.”
Yoongi nodded and waited for Seokjin to secure all the corners before letting go of it.
“Are you sure there's nothing else I can do?” Yoongi asked once Seokjin had finally stopped glaring daggers at the banner.
“Yeah, I'm sure. Go home and get ready,” Seokjin took his shoulders and guided him to the door. “I'm sure Jimin is waiting for you and it would be rude to keep you much longer.”
“But-” Yoongi tried to protest before Seokjin closed the door in his face. Yoongi blinked and awkwardly stood there for a few moments before turning and making his way home.
Sure enough, Jimin was waiting in their bedroom and was fidgeting with the duvet in an attempt to distract himself. The second Yoongi walked in he jumped up from the bed and rushed over.
“You're finally back! Where's your costume? I have to make sure everything is sitting right, and I have to do your hair and-”
“Jimin,” Yoongi chuckled as he placed his hands on Jimin's shoulders. “Chill. It's in the closet. Would it help you if you got me all ready before I get yours?”
“Yeah, that would help,” Jimin answered, calming down slightly but he still played with his fingers nervously.
It didn't take long once the outfit was laid out on the bed before Jimin had carefully adjusted every single aspect of the costume that could be adjusted until he was satisfied. He took a step back and looked Yoongi head to toe before nodding.
“Looks good, now I just have to do your hair and makeup,” Jimin said, more to himself than to anyone else. Yoongi let Jimin drag him around the room and sit him down on the bed. Jimin came back with a hairbrush, some hairspray and so much makeup that Yoongi wondered how the heck Jimin was even able to carry all of it with his tiny hands.
Jimin got to work and Yoongi did his absolute best to not break his concentration and followed all of the younger man's instructions. After much fiddling, Jimin was finally adding the finishing touches.
“There. Perfect,” Jimin breathed in awe and Yoongi opened his eyes. He hated to admit it, but he looked good. The makeup was subtle but added just enough to highlight his features and Jimin had meticulously styled his hair into something that wasn't a complete mess.
“Wow,” Yoongi gasped and Jimin smiled brightly.
“Wow is right,” he joked, lightly elbowing Yoongi's side. “I'm going to be fighting off your admirers all night long.”
“Don't bother,” Yoongi muttered, pulling Jimin close and burying his face into Jimin's hair. He had used his favourite shampoo and it smelled vaguely citrusy and fruity. “I only have eyes for you anyway.”
“That's adorable and sweet and all, and in literally any other situation I would say something equally sappy back,” Jimin said bluntly all of a sudden. “But I just spent ages doing your makeup so you'd better not have ruined it.”
Yoongi couldn't help the laugh that escaped him and he let Jimin go so he could check to make sure that all his hard work hadn't gone to waste.
“Okay good, you didn't wreck it,” Jimin sighed in relief. “I'm still kind of scared about what you chose for me, though.”
“Well, you don't have to wait any longer,” Yoongi told him as he stood up and retrieved a bag from the closet. “Put this on and then we'll head out.”
Jimin took the bag hesitantly and walked into their bathroom to change. Yoongi tried to stop the smirk from finding its way onto his face, he really did, but he couldn't hold it back any longer once the door had shut. He counted down from five silently and as if on cue, Jimin's horrified shriek came as soon as he reached zero.
~
Yoongi held Jimin's hand as they walked over to Seokjin's place where the party had already begun, judging by not only the loud music that was blasting through the neighbourhood but also by the hordes of cars that were parked up and down both sides of the street. Everyone in the area knew that Seokjin threw the best Halloween parties (parties in general, really) so no one had ever bothered to call a noise complaint on him.
Jimin stopped walking right at the edge of Seokjin's lawn and let go of Yoongi's hand to pull his coat tighter around himself. Yoongi paused and waited for him but frowned when Jimin didn't continue after a few moments.
“What's wrong?” Yoongi asked and he could tell that Jimin was frustrated with him when he refused to meet his eyes.
“Yoongi, do you have any idea how embarrassing this is?” Jimin answered as he gestured to the costume that was still hidden under the coat. “I'll never be able to live this down!”
“Hey,” Yoongi closed the distance between them and lifted Jimin's chin with a finger so they looked into each other's eyes. “It'll be okay, I promise. If you start getting too embarrassed, let me know and I'll make sure you can go change, does that sound alright?”
Jimin was silent for a moment and pursed his lips, lowering his gaze. Yoongi brought up his other hand to cradle Jimin's face and kissed his forehead softly.
“... Alright,” Jimin muttered before leaning up and kissing the tip of Yoongi's nose.
“Good. Now, are you ready to head in?” Yoongi asked with a gentle smile, taking Jimin's hand again. Jimin nodded and started walking with him, side by side.
“Just one thing…” Jimin said offhandedly as they walked up the driveway to the front door.
“What is it?” Yoongi wondered and watched as Jimin pointed to the lawn decorations.
“Who the heck set this up because it obviously wasn't Seokjin hyung,” he giggled, using his hand to hide his laughter.
“How do you know it wasn't Seokjin hyung?” Yoongi wondered, scrutinizing his decorating job and not finding anything too wrong with it.
“Oh that's easy,” Jimin said with an amused smile. “Seokjin hyung always uses too much of the fake spider webs on that tree and never has enough for the rest.”
Yoongi glanced at the large tree where Jimin was pointing and realized that he had, in fact, used all the fake spider webs along the bushes and hadn't even touched the trees thinking that they would be too much of a pain to get down.
“Is it bad?” Yoongi asked and Jimin shook his head.
“Nah, it could be worse, but I mean, it isn't great either. It looks very rushed.”
“Well, I was kind of rushing so that's pretty accurate,” Yoongi mentioned and Jimin paused to look at him.
“Wait,” he said with a small frown. “You did this?”
“Yeah, what of it?” Yoongi asked, not liking the look of the sly smile on Jimin's face.
“Well in that case,” Jimin said as he tried to hold back his giggles. “It's the shittiest decorating job I've ever seen.”
“Why thank you, I appreciate the compliment,” Yoongi drawled sarcastically as he knocked on the front door. It swung open and Seokjin, dressed as a very handsome vampire, grinned and invited them in.
He looked Yoongi up and down and whistled appreciatively. “Wow, Yoongi, I never expected to see you walking in looking this good.”
“Thanks, I guess?” Yoongi muttered and Seokjin just smiled before turning to Jimin.
“Jimin! Thanks so much for coming! Here, pass me your coat and I'll put it in the back for you,” Seokjin said cheerfully, already holding out a hand to take it from him. Jimin took a step back and clasped his hand over the zipper to hold it closed.
“I'll… I'll do it myself. Wouldn't want to trouble you,” Jimin chirped in the fakest way possible. It was obvious that Seokjin didn't buy it at all, but he backed off anyway.
“Well, alright then” Seokjin muttered somewhat awkwardly before instantly returning to his normal cheerful self, nodding at both of them. “Tae is helping Hobi get the candy ready for the first group of trick or treaters, Jungkook is in the kitchen probably making some abomination of a drink and I think Namjoon is in the other room trying to socialize. I'm just going to go around and check that all the food trays are still pretty good, but feel free to find me anytime.”
“Thanks, hyung,” Jimin said with a somewhat awkward smile as Seokjin left before turning to Yoongi. “I'll go put my coat away. Meet you by the food table?”
“Sure,” Yoongi replied and began to walk over to find one of their friends. The party was already in full swing even though it was only just six in the evening and Seokjin's living room was completely packed with people. If he didn't know better, Yoongi would have thought that he had invited the entire neighbourhood.
Luckily, it wasn't too difficult to find Namjoon. Even taking Yoongi's less than impressive height into account, Namjoon was still taller than most people in the room and had posted photos of his costume (which had apparently included dying his hair purple) earlier that day.
“Namjoon!” Yoongi called once he had managed to get through the crowd. “Over here!”
Namjoon noticed him pretty quickly and waved before pointing over to a small area near the corner where no one else was standing. They both made their way over to it and Namjoon leaned down - after knowing each other for so many years, it didn't irk him quite as much as it used to - and gave him a hug.
“Yoongi hyung, you're looking pretty good. Did Jimin force you into that?” Namjoon asked, obviously amused.
“Is it really that obvious?” Yoongi mumbled, only barely audible over the music, and Namjoon laughed.
“Hyung,” Namjoon chuckled. “Jimin is the only one who could convince you to wear anything other than street clothes.”
Yoongi tried to argue but he grudgingly had to admit that Namjoon was completely right. If it had been anyone else, Yoongi wouldn't have cared and would have just ignored them.
“Well, you might be impressed then,” Yoongi mused and felt somewhat accomplished when Namjoon looked confused. “I had Jimin wear a costume of my choice in return.”
“I'm not sure if I should be prepared to laugh or scream,” Namjoon admitted and Yoongi couldn't help laughing. “You managed to make Park Jimin, Halloween aficionado, wear a costume of your choice? This I've got to see.”
Yoongi glanced over at the doorway and smiled.
“Well, now's your chance.”
There, in all his fuming glory, stood Park Jimin. His gaze roamed dangerously across the room until he found Yoongi and he immediately started making his way over.
“Oh.. My.. God,” Namjoon breathed as he took in Jimin's costume. “Hyung I can't believe he hasn't killed you for that yet.”
“Don't jinx me please,” Yoongi whispered under his breath as Jimin stormed over.
“I hate you so much, you know that?” Jimin hissed, driving his finger into Yoongi's chest pointedly with every word. “Do you have any idea how many people have laughed at me? Do you!?”
Yoongi carefully slid his gaze over to Namjoon who was doing everything he could to hold in his laughter. Yoongi couldn't blame him, to be honest. For someone like Jimin, whose costumes were always elaborate and breathtaking, to be wearing something so obviously last minute and DIYed was like seeing snow in summer.
The white shirt that Yoongi had bought during their shopping trip had been altered in a very specific way. Namely, the words 'Error 404: Costume Not Found’ scrawled across the front in sharpie. It was so Not Jimin that it must have drawn way more attention than it would have if anyone else had worn it.
“And if people laughing wasn't bad enough,” Jimin began, “I ran into Seokjin hyung on the way over here and do you know what he said?”
Yoongi was about to answer that no, of course he didn't since he'd been over here with Namjoon the whole time when Jimin just continued without missing a beat.
“He said that he was offended because at least he expected this kind of bullshit from you, not me. God, Yoongi, I feel humiliated,” Jimin's voice had dropped to a whisper by the end and - oh god were those tears? Yoongi really hoped not - he buried his face in his hands. “Can we please just go home? I don't want to wear this anymore.”
Yoongi exchanged a glance with Namjoon that clearly said Boi you Fucked Up before turning back to Jimin.
“Hey, calm down, it'll be alright,” Yoongi whispered and gently guided Jimin's hands away from his face before lacing their fingers together.
“No, it won't be alright,” Jimin cried, shaking his head violently. “Seokjin hyung is so disappointed. He probably hates me now.”
“Oh Jimin, god, no, hyung would never,” Yoongi pressed their foreheads together and he closed his eyes. “He'll get over it, I promise. This is my fault, and I'm sorry for making you feel this way.”
“No, I shouldn't have made you change your plans either,” Jimin whispered, squeezing Yoongi's hands tighter. “We're both kind of messes, aren't we?”
“The best kind,” Yoongi whispered back and opened his eyes to see Jimin looking right back at him. “How are you feeling now?”
“Better,” Jimin shrugged slightly. “I still want to change though.”
Yoongi nodded and led him through the crowd and out of the room without saying anything. Even when Jimin asked where they were going, Yoongi didn't answer. It was obvious that Jimin was even more confused when Yoongi opened the door to Seokjin's bedroom and then went through his closet.
“Yoongi, I'm not so embarrassed that I can't walk home in this, and don't just take one of Seokjin hyung's shirts without asking him first,” Jimin pointed out after sitting on the corner of the bed.
“Not what I'm looking for,” Yoongi muttered before finally seeing the plastic bag that he had left there earlier. “Oh, there it is-”
He pulled the bag out of the closet and passed it to Jimin. Jimin took the bag and looked at Yoongi curiously.
“What is this?” He wondered as he stared down into the bag.
“I had a feeling that this might happen, so I kind of brought a backup costume?” Yoongi said shyly, refusing to meet Jimin's stunned gaze.
He reached into the bag when Yoongi didn't say anything more and pulled out a blue, red and white prince costume, in a similar style to Yoongi's.
“When did you pick this up?” Jimin wondered as he stared at it. Yoongi felt his face heat up as the embarrassment began to rise but the smile that was slowly spreading across Jimin's face was making it worth it.
“While you were in the bathroom. Do you… like it?” He asked somewhat awkwardly and was taken aback when Jimin left the costume on the bed to abruptly hug him.
“I love it. Thank you,” Jimin whispered, wrapping his arms around Yoongi's neck and burying his face in Yoongi's shoulder.
“And it kind of matches mine so…” Yoongi trailed off, patting Jimin's back slightly. Jimin laughed a little and moved back.
“Min Yoongi, weren't you the one who didn't want to do couple costumes because they're too ‘embarrassing and cringy’?” Jimin teased and Yoongi knew he was probably as red as a tomato. Despite that, he still leaned in close and whispered right into Jimin's ear.
“If it's for you, I don't mind being cringy.”
“Does this mean that we can wear couple costumes next year too?” Jimin asked, eyes glistening in a way that Yoongi was partially afraid of.
“Let's not get ahead of ourselves now,” Yoongi scolded, only half meaning it. In the end, he knew that he would give in to those eyes and that pout and that in a year's time he would probably be at Seokjin's party again, wearing a matching costume with the love of his life and complaining about how cringy it was. In the end, as long as he got to see Jimin happy, it would be worth it.
And maybe if this was a surefire way to ensure Jimin's happiness, well, Halloween just might overtake Valentine's day.
