Chapter 1: Okashi Kiki

Chapter Text

It was a bit of an easy life being a baker, or that's at least what Okashi Kiki thought as she woke up one morning. She dragged herself out of her bed and walked into her apartment's kitchen. Her customers were kind to her, and even the high school students down the road treated her with the utmost respect. Her cakes were delicious and in high demand, especially with people on diets. Her sweets only held calories when requested-usually only with bad breakups or for a special event.

Kiki looked around her kitchen for something to eat but decided against it. Better to absorb calories later than eat calories now. She'd eat once she calculated how many calories she took in that day and how many she exerted. Kiki showered, got dressed, put on her makeup, and brushed her hair, pulling it back with a red and black polka dot handkerchief. She fed her dog before finally deciding to go to the bakery. By the time she walked downstairs it was almost 5 in the morning. She unlocked her bakery and walked into the kitchen, making sure the front door was locked beforehand. In just a little under four hours, with the help of her assistants, she was able to fill up the display cases in her store. Kiki's watch beeped. 9 o'clock. 'Kiki's Sweets' was now open for business.

She walked into the store floor and looked at the crowd that had started to form outside. People were hungry, and ready to eat all the flavor of sweets with none of the calories. Kiki left the store front to two of her employees, Reiji and Hanako, and went into the back to help Hozumi bake more sweets. Normally cupcakes and muffins sold the fastest in the morning, followed by danishes and cookies. She'd knew it would just be a hop and a skip before-

"We're out of chocolate chip cookies!" Reiji's voice shouted into the kitchen. Ah, there it was. A bit quick for a Thursday, but oh well.

"Just a few minutes!" Kiki called into the other room. She turned to Hozumi, "Alright, kid. You're gonna put that quirk to good use. Hold out your hands." Hozumi smiled at Kiki and nodded, holding out his hands to her palms up. She placed the cookie sheet on his hands and watched as his fire quirk cooked the cookies thoroughly, stopping his flames only when the cookies were golden brown. "Perfect. Great job kid. While i put these in the display cool the other three trays, okay?"

"Yes, Ma'am!"

"Twelve chocolate chip cookies coming out! Watch out, they're hot and warm!" She walked into the bakery floor and filled the chocolate chip cookie slot back up. Kiki went back into the kitchen and removed her oven mitts. "Great job Hozumi, these look beautiful. You can bring them out to the displays, but don't stay with Reiji too long. I need you back here!" Kiki laughed and pat his shoulder as he walked onto the bakery floor.

"I make no promises, Ms. Kiki!"

At around noon Kiki hit her limit. She couldn't absorb any more calories if she wanted to. She had to go to the gym to work off the calories she absorbed after work. A few hours of swimming and some rock climbing would do her body good. Maybe she'd lift some weights afterwards.

It was at about three when the school down the street got out. UA was the top hero academy in all of Japan, and students often came down the road to have her sweets. Today wasn't any different. Three kids walked in the door when the day had slowed down. Hozumi had stopped baking around two, and the display case was well stocked. The group, a green haired boy, a brunette girl, and a black/blue haired boy, all dressed in UA's signature uniform, looked around the bakery. "First time here, kids?"

"Yes! We've heard very good things about this bakery! Is everything really calorie free?" The brunette asked.

"Well, not everything, but all the items on the right side of the cash register are while the items on the left are full of their calories. The calorie free side is more expensive as I need to put my quirk to use to make them, so be wary of that!" Kiki told them, "The name's Kiki. I own this place. Nice to meet you kids."

"Izuku Midoriya!" The green haired boy smiled at Kiki, shaking her hand.

"Ochaco Uraraka, nice to meet you!" The girl introduced her self, bowing.

"Tenya Iida, a pleasure to meet you, Ma'am." He bowed even harder than the girl, as if trying to give Kiki all of his respect.

"Oh, an Iida! Your reputation precedes you, young man."

"Thank you Ms. Kiki. I hope to live up to it."

Kiki laughed. "I believe you will. You're all from UA, correct? I recognize that uniform. So many students come in here every day of the week. Lots of cookies, lots of cupcakes. So, what can I get you kids?"

"A sugar cookie, please!"

"A lemon cupcake for me!"

"Do you have any crumb cake?"

"Fantastic! And yes, young Iida, we do have crumb cake. Reiji, your assistance, please." Reiji held open the bags as Kiki put the sweets into the bag. He tied the bags closed and placed them on the counter. "And you said this is your first time here?"

"Yes." Uraraka nodded at her.

"Alright. Here you go. Have a nice day, kids."

"What?"

"You don't have to pay because this is your first time here. If you go to a hero school or are a hero yourself and come here for the first time, you get your first order for free. It's a bit of a 'thank you' to all the heroes and future heroes. For protecting us, you know?"

"Are you sure? We can pay you!" Iida told Kiki.

"Either sit down and eat or take them home. But you aren't going to pay for this order, young man."

"Yes, ma'am. Thank you ma'am."

"Thank you so much!" Uraraka grinned at Kiki.

"Thank you. We'll be sure to tell everyone in our class about your bakery!"

"Aw, such kind words. Have a nice day, sweeties. Enjoy your treats." The group bowed at Kiki and gave her one more word of gratitude and left.

"If he does tell the whole class you're gonna lose money faster."

"It's only 17 other kids. We'll be fine. Besides, your paycheck will still be the same. That's nothing for you to worry about, Reiji." Kiki chuckled and grabbed the broom.

At eight o'clock the shop was finally closed. There weren't many sweets left, so those would be half priced tomorrow. If they weren't sold by the day after, they were thrown out. Kiki rarely ever had to throw anything away. Hanako had gone home around four while Hozumi and Reiji went back to their home a little after Kiki closed up shop. Now that the shop was closed, Kiki needed to get rid of the calories she had gained over the day.

She walked to the gym and worked out with her usual routine-mainly swimming and rock climbing. By the time she got out of the gym, it was nearing ten o'clock at night.

When it hit her. "Shit! Hero!" She ran home as fast as she could.

When she arrived home she practically ripped the door from its hinges. "Hero, I'm so sorry, sweetie!" The pit bull simply gave her a sideways glance. "I gotta just set an alarm to remember to feed you before I go out." Kiki pat Hero's head and went to feed the dog.

It was only after she went to bed did things get interesting. Hero woke her up at about three in the morning. He was jumping on her stomach, giving out low whines.

"Boy, what is it? God, Hero-,"

There was a smash. Something glass shattered.

Downstairs. In the bakery.

"Oh fuck." Kiki shot out of bed, grabbing her phone and putting on her slippers. She grabbed Hero's leash and attached it to his collar. "Come on, boy."

She dialed the number for the nearest police station as she descended the stairs to the bakery. She looked around the corner and saw that her front window was smashed to pieces. Two people were standing inside. "Yup, there it is," Kiki whispered. She hit dial and went back up the stairs, locking the front door behind her.

"Hello. I need someone down here. My dog woke me up and I heard glass breaking. We went downstairs to investigate and saw the front window was smashed. I didn't want to see any further what was wrong, but two people were in there. I need someone, a cop or a hero, whatever. It doesn't matter. Kiki's Bakery, 141 Hero Drive. Thank you."

She hung up and held her heart. "Fucking robbers. Breaking in, stealing my shit." This wasn't the first time someone had broken in, but it was the first time someone smashed her store window. Usually they only broke the door's window open.

That was far more easy to replace than the store's window. Needless to say, she was kind of pissed.
