Chapter Text
Ryu was bending down to pet the cat he’d found when an explosion sent it skittering off into the night with a yowl.
“Is that the best you can do!” someone shouted.
Another explosion went off, this time accompanied by the sound of someone…yelling in anger? Screaming in pain? Ryu couldn’t tell and honestly he didn’t want to know, except he’d been accepted into the most prestigious hero school in the nation, so he should probably at least go see if someone was hurt.
He snuck towards where the sounds seemed to be coming from, one hand out in front of him, ready to blind the first person he saw. The other he stuck into his pocket as he dug for his phone. Weaving in between the bushes, heat blasted his face as he slunk in close to the big empty sports field they used for gym class. It was him who was blinded when an explosion blew up the otherwise peaceful night. He stayed hidden as he sent off a quick, squinty-eyed text to Ozaki to call in reinforcements if he didn’t answer in the next fifteen minutes.
It was a good thing the area outside the field was so dark because he probably didn’t want to get involved with what he saw when his eyes finally adjusted.
Two boys his age were fighting in the middle of the pitch. Well, one of them was fighting. The other was mostly dodging and then blasting the green-haired guy when he got too close. Ryu couldn’t be certain, but he had a strong feeling that he recognized the latter as the guy who’d won the Sports Festival.
The guy who’d they’d literally hauled onto the podium in chains.
Yeah, he really didn’t want to get involved.
“You’re pathetic! At least make an attempt!”
Green Hair scrunched his face up into a look of determination before just…disappearing. A green blur zipped across the field, and Green Hair reappeared a split-second later, centimeters away from Chains Guy. Chains Guy blasted him, but Green Hair paid it no mind as he kicked him right through the explosion, sending Chains Guy flying.
Ryu winced when he hit the ground. People weren’t really meant to bounce like that.
“Kacchan!” Green Hair ran towards him. He skidded into a kneel as he got close to where Chains Guy had fallen. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t think it’d connect, and I put too much strength into it.” He buried his fingers into his hair. “Shit! You’re probably really hurt now. This is ba-”
He cut himself off and a strange sense of tranquility seemed to come over him as he placed his hands in his lap. Ryu looked around, but didn’t see anyone else who might have used their quirk on him.
“Don’t worry. Everything is going to be okay. Can you move?”
“Deku,” Kacchan said, voice low and suspiciously calm. He reached up and slowly pulled Deku down by the front of his shirt.
Then he punched him.
“What was that for!?” Deku cried, holding his face.
“Don’t treat me like some kind of worthless rescue victim you fucking nerd!”
“We’re supposed to keep the injured calm in this kind of situation!”
“I AM CALM!” Kacchan screamed as he kicked Deku in the leg. Snarling, he pushed himself to his feet and then took one narrow-eyed look at Deku and pounced on him.
Deku squawked as he was pushed down into the dirt, and the two of them rolled around as they punched and kicked each other. The fight ended with Kacchan on top, his hand wrapped around Deku’s throat, and it was right then that all three of them seemed to remember that Kacchan could explode things with his hands. Ryu began typing the school’s emergency number into his phone.
Kacchan smirked. “I should fucking kill you.”
“N-no need to go that far,” Deku said, voice shaky.
Ryu raised his hand, ready to rush in and do…something. Probably die.
In lieu of a response, Kacchan kissed Deku.
Ryu’s mouth dropped open, his thumb hovering over the “dial” button that’d send him directly to some of the school’s available Pros, who’d all be here within minutes of his call. He honestly didn’t know if he should press it or not.
“Kacchan,” Deku said as they parted, the word breathy and more than a little fond.
Ryu lowered his other arm.
What the hell.
Kacchan released his throat and straightened, giving Deku enough room to sit up. Deku pushed his fingers up through the back of Kacchan’s spikey blond hair as he wrapped his arms around him, and they kissed again. Really kissed. There was definitely some tongue in there.
It was practically obscene.
“Sorry about that-” All three of them jumped. “-Tsukauchi said he had-”
All Might, the All Might, rounded the building and came into sight. He stopped and stared at them. And then he coughed and blood went everywhere. Ryu had to resist the urge to run over and offer him the literal shirt off his back as he pulled out a handkerchief to wipe it up.
“All Might!” Deku squawked, and they quickly scrambled away from each other. “We were just, um, you see, it was, we-”
“I’m leaving. You two can have your little heart-to-heart if you want. I don’t care.”
“Don’t just leave!” Deku looked absolutely terrified at the idea of being left to fend for himself.
Ryu didn’t blame him. He’d die for the Business Course students to be given the chance to regularly interact with All Might, but even he didn’t want to be involved in what was about to go down.
Kacchan waved a hand over his shoulder as he walked off.
Deku and All Might stared at each other for what must have been a full minute before All Might awkwardly began with, “It’s perfectly natural for someone your age-”
Ryu got the hell out of there. No way was he sticking around for that talk.
He sent a text to Ozaki to let him know he wasn’t dead as he made his way back to the dorms. Amazingly.
What happened? Ozaki texted back.
Remind me to never interact with any of the Hero Course students. Ryu sent in response.
Especially not those two.
