Work Text:

Jimin walked into the school with Taehyung, his best friend, by his side. Taehyung was talking about how he finally finished some video game last night, but Jimin was barely paying attention since he didn’t play games that much. Arriving at Jimin’s locker, Taehyung continued talking as Jimin put some things away, and grabbed what he needed for first period. Jimin was nodding along to whatever his friend was saying, until he heard something worth paying attention to.

“Yoongi-hyung is looking again.”

Jimin looked up quick, almost snapping his neck in the process. “What? Where?”

“At his locker. He’s with Hoseok-hyung.” Tae explains, nodding his head in their direction. He waved at Hoseok, and the older waved back.

Jimin spots Yoongi, and he is indeed staring at Jimin. He smiles at Yoongi, and waves with his fingers. Despite the distance between them, Jimin seen Yoongi’s cheeks turn a light pink as he smiled and waved back awkwardly. Jimin chuckles, and shuts his locker.

“Come on, Tae.” Jimin began walking off with Taehyung trailing behind.
------

Min Yoongi was a completely different person in real life, Jimin noticed. Over text, the elder was “badass” (his words), and “cooler than your mom” (also his words). Jimin always found himself laughing as he read Yoongi’s thread of texts about how he’s cool and hard, and not “soft” as Jimin put it. Jimin didn’t believe it for a second, seeing as just a simple wave makes the elder flustered. He thought it was cute, though.

Jimin and Yoongi had been texting since school started about four months ago. Jimin is a freshman, Yoongi a sophomore. They had met at Jimin’s freshman orientation. Yoongi being there because he need volunteer credits (a basketball requirement) before the season started. So, he volunteered to help set everything up, and with other things.

Yoongi was showing a small group of newly freshmen around the school, Jimin being in said group. He had wandered in the back, keeping a fair distance from the group since he didn’t really know anyone. While on a bathroom break during the tour, Yoongi noticed Jimin separated from everyone else. He went over to speak with him, and it took a bit of coaxing, but Yoongi got him out of his shell. They clicked almost instantly, talking about their favorite movies and foods. During the lunch break, Yoongi sat with Jimin, instead of the other volunteers. Even after the orientation day was over, Yoongi sat and spoke with him until his dad picked him up. They exchanged numbers before Jimin left, and have been texting ever since.
-------

About a month into their friendship, Jimin began feeling different. He got overly excited whenever he got a text from Yoongi, and was too overjoyed when he saw Yoongi in the halls at school. He also didn’t want to be apart from the elder. Felt the need to constantly be around him, giving the elder no room to breathe. Jimin didn’t really know or think about if he was gay or not. He just knew that he liked Yoongi a lot.

Like, a lot.

Kim Taehyung had started to come around during this time. He and Jimin had all their classes together, and coincidently sat next to each other in the classes. Naturally, they began talking, and soon became friends. Taehyung deemed Jimin his best friend when he helped him with his “stupid biology” homework. Then, Taehyung gave Jimin the title of his soulmate when Jimin told him about his feelings for Yoongi. Jimin didn’t really talk about Yoongi at first, until one day he couldn’t hold it in anymore. He spilled all his thoughts and feelings to Taehyung, and the taller helped him as best as he could. Which is basically telling Jimin that he’s in love and should marry Yoongi.

Yeah, Jimin threw his eraser at Taehyung’s face.

The big problem about his newfound crush on Yoongi is: Does Yoongi like him back? Is he even interested in someone like Jimin? Jimin knows he can be clingy and whine a little (a lot), so how could Yoongi feel the same way?

-------

By the third month, Jimin was sure he wanted to be with Yoongi. In the back of his mind, he had a feeling that Yoongi might like him back. Taehyung had called it gaydar, and Jimin threw his eraser at his face again. Jimin determined this because he knows Yoongi -- not to brag or anything -- and his body language. Yoongi is an open book, so Jimin reads as much as he can. When he noticed Yoongi started touching him more, and looking at him differently, he thought it was weird. At first. Then, he accustomed to it, and returned the extra touches and stares. Yoongi didn’t seem to mind.

Which brings them to where they are now. Still talking and flirting (?), no one making the first move. Taehyung suggested Jimin made the first move, and ask him out.

“What? We’ve been out before.”

“No, go on a date.”

“What’s the difference?”

“There’s feelings involved.”

That made no sense to him, but nodded anyway.

They were sitting at lunch, Jimin in between Taehyung and their new friend, Jungkook. He just transferred a few days ago, and Jimin and Taehyung immediately befriended him. Yoongi and his two friends would be there soon. Their small group got along well, with Taehyung being a social butterfly, and Hoseok (Yoongi’s friend) getting rid of the awkwardness Taehyung creates.

Jungkook bit into his sandwich as he stared at Jimin. Jimin looked at him in question. Before talking, Jungkook swallowed his food, “So, you like Yoongi-ssi? The basketball player, right?”

Taehyung spoke up before Jimin, “Yes, he does! I thought we went over this on your first day.”

“You talk too fast.”

Jimin rolled his eyes. “How do you know he plays basketball? You’ve been here for like, a day.”

“Four days, counting today. And, I know because my mom was late picking me up, so I waited in the gym, and the team was there practicing. Yoongi-ssi mistook me for a waterboy, and next thing I know the coach is telling me there’s a game this Friday and I have to be there an hour early to fill up the containers.”

The other two stared at Jungkook for a moment before laughing loudly.

“Oh, my gosh! That’s hilarious!” Taehyung belted out. Jimin nodding along, not able to talk with how hard he was laughing.

“What’s so funny?”

Jimin recognized the voice and immediately stopped laughing. He looked up at the voice, coming face to face with Yoongi and his platinum blond hair. Yoongi sat down across from Jimin, Hoseok and their other friend Namjoon sitting on either side of him, and all Jimin could do was stare. He then snapped out of it when Taehyung nudged him.

“O-oh… Jungkookie is a waterboy and he’s only been here for a day.”

“Four!-”

“Oh, yeah. Coach told me to remind him to be an hour early tomorrow.” Yoongi nodded towards Jungkook, the younger nodding back.

Yoongi opened his lunch bag and dumped it out. He slid over a baggie of grapes to Jimin without a word.

“Hyung, you like grapes, eat them.” Jimin stated, trying not to blush.

However, Yoongi only shook his head, “I don’t want them.” He then proceeded to open the bag, and held one up to Jimin’s lips.

Jimin was shocked to say the least. Their other friends got quiet around them, but the two didn’t notice. Not wanting to keep Yoongi waiting any longer, Jimin took the grape into his mouth, his lips grazing Yoongi’s finger ever-so lightly. Yoongi smiled, then resumed eating and chatting away with Hoseok, and Namjoon.

Jimin was definitely blushing now. Taehyung and Jungkook were poking his cheeks and chuckling. He swatted them away, and abruptly stood up.

“Bathroom, now.”

Jimin quickly left the table, and walked fast towards the bathrooms inside the cafeteria. Taehyung stood up afterwards, while Jungkook was confused.

“Come on, Kookie.” He grabbed the confused boy’s hand, dragging him to the bathroom.

Once inside, they found Jimin looking helpless, and red faced.

“What did he do that for?! He’s never fed me before, let alone in front of other people! What am I going to do?!” Jimin cried out.

Taehyung thought it over for a second (literally, Jungkook counted), and said, “Ask him out on that date I mentioned before. Now would be the perfect time! Or, after lunch since he walks you to class.”

Jungkook was finally catching on now. He fully agreed with Taehyung.

“I can’t! He’ll think I’m weird or something! Taetae, you do it for me.” Jimin whines, clinging onto his best friend.

Taehyung shook his head, chuckling, “Gross, no way. If you’re that nervous, tell Kookie to do it.”

Jungkook looked up from his phone at the sound of his name. “What?”

“Kookie, were you listening to a word Chim, and I were saying?”

“Of course, I was.” He was not.

“Right. Now, how about you help Chim out?”

“Help him out with what?”

Taehyung and Jimin rolled their eyes at the same time at Jungkook.

“Tae, he’s useless.” Jimin comments, disregarding Jungkook’s presence at the moment.

Taehyung nods in agreement. “Yes, yes he is. We gotta get rid of him.”

“Rid of him, we shall.”

Jungkook didn’t know whether to be confused, or scared. On one hand, his new friends have confused him since he got here, but they were really nice about it. Now, not so much. On the other hand, they were talking about getting rid of him. What the hell is he supposed to make of that? Jungkook likes his friends, and their group. He didn’t want to get kicked out or shunned or something.

“Don’t get rid of me! Please! You guys are my only friends!” Jungkook pleaded. His big doe eyes full of worry, and rejection.

Jimin panicked first.

“Yah, Jungkook! No, that’s not what we’re saying! God, we were kidding! Tae, tell him we were kidding!”

Jimin lunged himself at Jungkook, pulling him into a tight hug. Jungkook had the urge to push him off, but decided not to, letting the boy hold him.

“We were kidding… maybe.” Taehyung smirks, but it is soon wiped off when Jimin swats his arm. “Hey! Fine, we were kidding, Kook. You’re our best friend, so you’re stuck with us for the rest of your homosexual life.”

“I’m not gay?”

“Sure you aren’t, our little gay baby.”

Taehyung just pets his head with a nod and knowing smile. Jimin finally lets him go, and decides they’ve been in the bathroom for too long; the bell was going to ring soon. The three boys made their way back to the table, and Yoongi gave Jimin a curious look.

“Everything okay?” He asked the younger. Tae and Jungkook weren’t paying attention, already delving into a conversation with Hoseok and Namjoon.

Jimin nodded with a small smile. “Yeah, everything’s fine. I just needed to… powder my nose…?”

Yoongi blinked.

Jimin blinked back.

Yoongi sighs.

“Jiminie, I will always support you no matter what. If you don’t feel comfortable in your male body-”

“Hyung! That’s not- what? No, you weirdo!”

“Well, what am I supposed to think? Isn’t powdering your nose something girls say?”

Jimin was dying. He can’t believe Yoongi thought he meant… that. He didn’t want to actually say why he was in the bathroom, so it was the first thing that came to Jimin’s mind. He didn’t think Yoongi would assume he was transexual. God, that’s so embarrassing.

“Men can say it, too.”

“So, you just went to the bathroom?”

“Yes.”

“And, you needed Jungkook and Taehyung with you?”

“Don’t you bring Hoseok and Joonie-hyung with you?”

“No?”

“You guys aren’t real friends, then.”

Yoongi chuckled at the boy and Jimin smiled. “I guess we aren’t.”

The rest of lunch went by quickly, and four of them went off to their respective classes. The other two walked to Jimin’s class. It was a comfortable silence between them, and neither of them noticed their slow pace, seeming not in a hurry to separate from each other.

What happened at lunch was bugging Jimin to no end, and just decided to ask, thinking he couldn’t embarrass himself more.

“Honestly, I don’t know,” Yoongi answered quickly. “I just… did it. On instinct. Did it make you uncomfortable? Oh, gosh is that why you went to the bathroom? I am so sorry, Jiminie! I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable!”

Jimin giggled behind is hand at Yoongi’s panicked state. He should be worried that Yoongi found out the real reason he went to the bathroom, but seeing him like this distracted Jimin from it.

“Hyung, it’s okay! You didn’t make me uncomfortable at all, so please calm down.” Jimin placed a hand on the elder’s shoulder. Yoongi looked at his hand, then up at Jimin. His slightly chubby cheeks were red from laughing, and his eyes in that cute crescent shape when he smiles widely. It took Yoongi’s breath away.

“Oh, sorry. Glad I didn’t make you uncomfortable. Why did you go to the bathroom then, if it wasn’t because of that?”

“Oh, look! My class! Gotta go, hyung! You’ll be here after class, right? Okay, great bye!” And Jimin was gone like that into the classroom.

That was odd. Even for Jimin. Yoongi was confused, and peeked into the room. He saw Jimin sat at the back corner with Taehyung next to him. Jimin was talking -- more like ranting -- to him, and Taehyung looked like he was hanging on to every word, getting more excited by the second.

Yoongi pursed his lips, and left the hallway. He had a free period right now, so he went to the library to take his usual nap.

Back in class, Jimin was telling Taehyung about what had happened before he walked in.

“-Tae, we were almost caught!”

“Correction; we were caught. When he asked again, you just denied it.”

“That isn’t the point, Tae.”

“What? Yes, it is.”

“Anyway, I regret panicking, but it had to be done. What if he asks about it when he picks me up?”

“Avoid it. Talk about cheer practice or something.”

Before Jimin could respond, their algebra teacher walked in, getting class started immediately. So, Taehyung and Jimin quieted down, and got out their notebook, ready to pass notes than pay attention.

When class was over, Jimin was dreading leaving the room. He was scared that Yoongi would ask about what happened earlier. But, being the best friend that he was, Taehyung pushed him out the room, right into Yoongi’s broad chest.

Surprised, Yoongi caught Jimin with ease, wrapping his arms around Jimin’s small waist. Jimin looked up from Yoongi’s chest, his face flushed red. Yoongi smiles at him.

“You okay, Jiminie?”

Speechless, the younger nods. Yoongi looks even more attractive up close. God dammit, Jimin is totally screwed.

“Cat got your tongue, Jimin?” Jimin heard Taehyung say from behind. His cheeks flushed an even brighter red as he pushed away from Yoongi, who still hadn’t let go. Even as Jimin turned to face his best friend, Yoongi’s wide palms stayed on his waist.

“What the hell, Tae? Why did you push me?” Jimin asked angrily. Well, he tried to, but Taehyung thought he looked too cute.

Taehyung smirked, “I didn’t push you. My hands slipped. Anyway, see you after school!”

The tall male was walking down the hall like he hadn’t done anything idiotic, and turned the corner without looking back. Jimin couldn’t believe the audacity. Taehyung’s soul mate card is getting revoked.

Jimin felt a slight squeeze on his waist, and he came out of his stupor. He turned to look at Yoongi (his hands are still on Jimin’s waist), and was met with his piercing gaze. Their faces were close again, and Jimin felt Yoongi’s puffs of air on his cheek.

“Jiminie…”

“Hm?”

“We’re gonna be late.”

“Right. Sorry, hyung.”

With that, the two began walking towards their last class they had together. Yoongi’s hands fell away from his waist, and Jimin suddenly missed the warmth.

After school was over, Yoongi and Jimin walked together to the locker rooms, for Yoongi had basketball practice and Jimin cheer practice. Going their separate ways (the coach allowed Jimin to dress with the girls), they each got ready. Once done, they sat on the bleachers of the gym while they waited for their teams.

They were in the middle of a very important conversation about corn, when Taehyung bursted through the gym doors.

“BEST FRIEND!”

“BEST FRIEND!”

Jimin hopped off the bleachers, his skirt flying up just a little (Yoongi definitely did not look. That’s rude and creepy), and jumped into Taehyung’s long arms. The taller caught him easily and ruffled his hair.

“Chim, I brought Kookie. He wondered if we did any sports at school, so I brought him to watch your practice with me.” Taehyung explained.

Jungkook was behind Taehyung, looking as shy as ever, staring at the ground. Jimin got off of his friend, and put his arm around Jungkook’s shoulder. Taehyung had walked off to go talk with Yoongi.

“Hey, Kookie. You okay?”

“Oh, I’m fine. I- I didn’t know you were a cheerleader. I didn’t even know they allowed boys on the team…”

Jimin was probably wrong, but he was usually good at reading people. So, he got an idea.

He smiled at the boy softly and spoke quietly, “Jungkookie… would you like to try out for the team? We could use another guy. Also, you don’t have to wear a skirt if that makes you uncomfortable.”

Jungkook looked up with big, innocent eyes. “Could I?” He asked, equally as quiet.

Jimin nodded enthusiastically. “Of course. You don’t have to try out today. We could schedule something with coach right now, she’s in her office.”

“O-okay.”

Jimin grabbed his hand and started dragging him towards the locker room. Yoongi spotted them and asked where they were going, but the two ignored him, entering the room.

“What are those two up to?” Yoongi asked.

“More like: what is Jimin up to? He’s always doing some shit, I swear. But, it’s one of the reasons why I love him. Maybe he’s getting Jungkook on the team or something.”

“The cheer team?” Yoongi snorts, “He doesn’t seem like the type. Besides, he’s our waterboy.” Yoongi retorts.

“Hmm, not anymore.” Taehyung smirked, watching as the two came out with big smiles on their faces. “Hey, guys! What’s the news?”

Jimin ran up to the two and plopped himself in Yoongi’s lap, too excited to actually realize it. Whereas, Yoongi was gay panicking on the inside. And, maybe outside considering the look he was getting from Taehyung. Yoongi didn’t know what to do, so he assumed he put his arm around Jimin’s waist.

“We talked to Coach Hyolyn, and Jungkookie has an audition tomorrow after school!” Jimin stated excitedly, bouncing a little in Yoongi’s lap.

(Yoongi’s breath hitched a little -- okay, maybe a lot, but no one noticed. He tried holding back a boner as Jimin continued moving around.)

Taehyung pulled Jungkook into a tight hug. “Oh, my baby! I’m so happy and proud of you! Look at you, coming out of the closet!”

“Thanks, Tae, but I told you I’m not gay.” Jungkook tried to pull away, but Taehyung only held tighter.

“It’s okay, my gay baby. Take your time.” Taehyung petted Jungkook’s dark hair.

While Taehyung continued to pet Jungkook, Jimin buzzed happily in Yoongi’s lap. Yoongi’s grip on his waist tightened ever so slightly, but Jimin still felt it; actually became aware of whose lap he was on. The mortification on his face was remarkable.

“Hyung… I-”

Yoong interrupted him, “No, don’t say anything. It’s okay, I’m fine with this. More than fine, actually. I- I uh… it’s nice.” he finished lamely, a faint blush spreading across his cheeks and the bridge of his nose.

“Nice…?”

Yoongi nodded.

“Oh… okay then.”

The two stared at each other until a whistle blew. They both jumped at the shrill sound, and Jimin immediately got off of Yoongi’s lap. The gym was filled with the basketball team and the cheer squad was getting ready to practice outside on the field. The two were so lost in their own world, they didn’t notice everyone.

Jimin quickly went down the bleachers, mumbling a quick ‘come on, Tae’ as he went past. Just before opening the door to the field, Jimin looked back at the bleachers. Yoongi was standing now, and looking straight at Jimin. The younger felt his blush get worse, so he quickly left, Taehyung and Jungkook hot on his tail.

After practice was over, Jimin was sat on the bleachers with his two friends. The cheer practice ended fifteen minutes before the basketball team’s, so Jimin usually waited for Yoongi.

The three talked about going to Jimin’s house afterwards for a movie night, despite there being school the next day. Jimin told them his parents wouldn’t mind, since they love Taehyung. He assured Jungkook that they will like him, too.

Soon, the team was finished, and were all drinking water and chattering about layups and whatnot. Hoseok, who is also on the team, was talking with Yoongi.

“Hey, when did Jungkook start coming with Tae?” Hoseok asked, eyeing the three talking animatedly.

Yoongi capped his water jug, and shrugged. “Just today. Why?” A smirk appeared on Yoongi’s face.

Yoongi and Hoseok are best friends (along with Namjoon, of course, so he also knows this), so it’s natural to know about crushes. In fact, Hoseok has a big, fat crush on Jungkook. It started the day he showed up at their lunch table, dragged by a wild Taehyung. He looked innocent, and slightly scared (mostly because of Taehyung). Hoseok had calmed the hyperactive teen down, so Jungkook could breathe. Hoseok knew most of classes consisted of Jimin and Taehyung, and really, he saved him. Taehyung could talk an ear off, and Jimin the other.

Hoseok and Jungkook talked that day, so it wasn’t a crush-at-first-sight type of thing. Their classes after lunch were right across from each other, so it was natural they walked together. They had some stuff in common, but it was nice that there were some differences. Hoseok began liking the younger, developing a crush, and still likes him.

Jungkook has only been there for four days, but it feels like Hoseok has known him his entire life. It felt right to like him. It felt right to have the subtle thoughts of holding Jungkook’s hand, kissing his cute nose, and hugging him.

Hoseok likes Jungkook so much, he can only hope that the younger might feel the same way.

“No reason! I’m just asking! Jeez, Yoongi, get together.” Hoseok complained, smacking Yoongi’s shoulder.

Yoongi chuckled and shook his head. “Fine, whatever. You should go talk to him. I’m heading there right now, anyway. Come on.”

Yoongi made his way to the three with Hoseok trailing behind. Jimin’s back was facing him, so he went up quietly and quickly covered Jimin’s eyes.

“Guess who?” Yoongi asked teasingly. He felt Jimin smile under his hands.

“Hmm.. could it be the awesomest and coolest person I know?” Jimin answered with a small giggle. Yoongi almost died right then and there.

“I’m right in front of you, Chim!” Taehyung shouted.

“Shut up, Taehyung! Hi, Yoongi-hyung.” Jimin moved his hands down, gripping them in his smaller ones. He looked up at Yoongi, who was hovering above him. Jimin smiled wide and Yoongi swears they twinkled.

“Hey, Jiminie.” Yoongi greeted and sat behind Jimin.

The younger turned in his seat, still holding Yoongi’s warm hands. He began playing with his long fingers.

“Good practice?” Jimin asked. Yoongi nodded.

“You? Do any cool triple flips or some shit?”

Jimin laughed, throwing himself forward into Yoongi’s lap. The older chuckled along with him, and gently squeezed Jimin’s hands. Jimin soon sat up straight, cheeks hurting from laughing so hard.

“Hyung, while I can do a triple flip, we didn’t do anything too extreme today. We just did some stretches and went over our routine for your game on friday, then we had free time.” Jimin explained.

“Free time? Coach would never. Must be nice.”

Jimin shrugged. “Work hard, and maybe you’ll get free time. Also, coach wasn’t feeling too well, so she told us to do whatever.”

Yoongi rolled his eyes as Jimin giggled. He lowkey (highkey) loves Jimin’s giggle, though he would never admit it to the younger. Hoseok and Namjoon hear enough about it.

“Wow, thanks Jiminie. I’m gonna go shower now, don’t I stink?”

“Now that you mention it, yes you do. Go shower, stinky butt.” Jimin playfully pushed at Yoongi’s chest.

“Could you be any more rude?”

“Are you challenging me, Min?”

“Oooh, Park is capable of getting spicy I see. Better not mess with him; I don’t want any trouble.”

“Exactly. Now, go shower. I have to shower, too.”

“You barely did anything today.”

“Do I need a reason to shower now, Min?”

“Okay, okay. I’ll go, jeez. So pushy.”

Jimin and Yoongi laughed again as they both stood up. They walked down the bleachers together, and towards the locker rooms. Yoongi glanced down at Jimin’s uniform. He looks cute in it.

Since the season started about a month and a half ago, Yoongi hadn’t really noticed Jimin’s uniform. Was too busy looking at Jimin’s face, memorizing every freckle and every mole. If you asked Yoongi, he could map out Jimin’s whole face exactly. However, now that he’s actually looking -- really looking -- at the uniform, Yoongi zeroes in on the offending material.

“Yah, your skirt is too short.” Yoongi commented.

Jimin looked at him. “What?”

“Your skirt. Too short.” Yoongi repeated. He reached for the side of it, and tugged it down a bit. “Don’t need other guys looking at you.”

Jimin’s face was well acquainted with the color red by now. He watched as Yoongi fretted over his uniform skirt, tugging in the front and back, then the sides. And what’s up with that last part of not needing others looking at him? Yoongi was acting… weird. Protective, dare Jimin say.

“Hy-hyung, it’s fine! It’s just a uniform! Besides, you know I don’t actually wear stuff this short!” Jimin tried to reason with him.

Yoongi grunted. “Yeah, I know. But, other guys don’t. So, let’s not give them a chance to know.”

“Hyung, you’re being weird…” Jimin trailed off.

Something seemed to go off in the elder’s head, snapping him out of it. Yoongi is stiff as his hands froze their movements. He looked up from the skirt to Jimin’s cute, chubby face. His hands fell away from the material, as he realized the things he was doing and saying.

Inevitably, Yoongi panicked, “Jiminie, I’m so sorry for touching you without permission! I’m sorry for talking all weird and crazy! You can dress however you want, I’m not your boyfriend or anything!”

But, I want you to be.

Jimin stares at the elder with a fond gaze. He steps closer, their faces mere centimeters apart.

Quietly, Jimin spoke, “Hyung, do you mind if I do some things backwards right now?”

Yoongi’s eyes flickers to Jimin’s plump and awaiting lips, then back up to his eyes. He notices Jimin’s stay focused on Yoongi’s soft, pink lips.

Yoongi nodded minutely. “Go ahead, Jiminie.”

And, Jimin all but smashes his lips against Yoongi’s.
