Work Text:

The door to the classroom creaks open, disturbing the quiet of the early evening. The snow outside makes everything feel more muffled, especially this close to the holidays. Hanta knows Iida will be in here because, well, he’s Iida. Once the door is open enough, Hanta peeks his head in. Bingo. Iida is bent over his desk, scribbling serenely as he nods his head minutely to the music in his headphones.

The flirtation between Hanta and Iida had been going on since their first year. Hanta had made it his goal to help everyone relax, even their uptight class president. Of course, Hanta could have never predicted that Iida would have turned into one of his closest friends. Or that when he started flirting jokingly that Iida would flirt back. And now it’s three years later and they just flirt and flirt and nothing ever happens. Except Hanta is tired, tired of waiting, of wanting. So he’s here.

He creeps into the silent classroom, slinking up to Iida’s desk. Iida hasn’t looked up yet, but the minute the door opened a smile started to creep onto the normally stoic boy’s face. Hanta pressed his lips together to suppress his own smile.

Iida still doesn’t look up once Hanta gets to his desk, eyes flicking up minutely but not doing what Hanta wants them to. That’s okay, he’ll look up eventually. He always breaks first when Hanta wants something. Sucker.

Hanta’s heart is racing as he reaches out, pulling out one of Iida’s headphones. “Drop it Like It’s Hot” escapes into the rest of the room as soon as it’s pulled out of Iida’s ears, and Hanta’s so surprised he can’t play at pretend stealth anymore. He bursts out laughing.

Iida looks up then, faux confusion on his face. Fucker’s gotten way better at playing innocent now that he actually knows things.

“What?”

“You-” Hanta’s still laughing, “come on, now you have to smoke with me!”

Iida rolls his eyes but looks back down at his work.

“I do smoke with you, Sero. You’re just upset because I don’t do it every day with you. And lecture you about all the different ways we could get in trouble or ruin our lives with it.”

Hanta shrugs, even though Iida can’t see it.

“I’ll take you smoking with me, even if you’re a literal buzzkill when we do it.”

Iida’s still smiling but Hanta can see his brain’s gears beginning to turn again, ready to return to his work. That’s the exact opposite of what Hanta wants.

“I actually came in here for a reason.”

Iida hums disinterestedly, inclining his head in Hanta’s direction. Hanta huffs, sitting in the desk in front of Iida’s. He twists himself backwards so he’s facing him. Iida looks up then, startled by the sudden movement. Perfect.

Hanta whips his hand out from behind his back, activating his quirk quickly and sticking the mistletoe to the ceiling above them. Iida blinks.

Hanta watches as Iida looks at him for a second, before looking at the mistletoe on the ceiling, the tape attaching it to the ceiling, and back down at the boy who the tape belongs to. Hanta swallows roughly.

“It’s mistletoe.”

Hanta smiles as brightly as he can at Iida. Iida looks back at him, expression void of anything Hanta can read.

Iida’s voice is measured when it comes out, and quieter than normal. Like he’s trying very hard to keep his emotions in check. His cheeks are read. Hanta loves hi-it. Hanta loves it.

“I see that.”

Hanta keeps his smile plastered on. He’s gonna get through this with sheer optimism and force of will. Kind of like Iida would, if Iida was dumb enough to make a move on someone using mistletoe and his own quirk.

Of course, Iida’s quirk is way cooler than just tape so it would probably be more impress- no. Not now brain.

“It’s tradition to kiss if you’re under the mistletoe with someone! And look! We’re under the mistletoe together!”

If Iida’s cheeks were pink before, they’re red now. But Iida’s smiling. That’s a good sign, right?

“So…” Iida has his patient tutoring voice on, “you want to kiss me. So your plan was to tape mistletoe onto the ceiling...in front of me...rather than just ask me?”

Iida always made Hanta’s plans seem overly convoluted. He was a genius like that. And also the worst. Hanta let out a huff.

“I was trying to be romantic.”

Iida smiled then, something soft and genuine, reserved only for Hanta, except normally when Iida thought Hanta wasn’t looking. Hanta smiled back, something he hoped conveyed the same amount of feeling that Iida’s did. It’s what he deserved.

“It’s very romantic, Hanta.”

And then Iida was leaning in, and there were soft hands in his hair. On his face. Brushing his shoulders. Iida’s lips on his were impossible gentle, just a light brush of lips against his before Iida was pulling back, eyes wide and chest heaving like he’d already run fifteen marathons. But Hanta can’t let this get away. Not after one kiss. Not after a thousand kisses. So he leans in again, pulling himself halfway over Iida’s desk, chasing his lips greedily. Iida gasps into the kiss, and Hanta twines his fingers in the speedster’s hair, pulling him closer, closer, closer until - until he over balances the desk he’s sitting on and ends up on the floor with a crash.

When he opens his eyes, Iida is bent over, laughing at him. A real, genuine laugh that crinkles his eyes and lights up his face. Hanta is in love.

“I’m in love with you.”

Maybe Hanta has a concussion, because he really wasn’t planning on actually saying that.

Iida’s laughter stops like someone unplugged his laugh track and his eyes go wide, before his smile returns full force.

“I love you too, Hanta. Now can you please get the mistletoe off the ceiling before I end up having to kiss everyone who comes to ask me for help with their homework.”

Hanta smiles, pulling himself off the ground with the help of Iida’s very strong hand and a little extra support from Iida’s very strong thigh. No. Not now brain.

“Only if that means I don’t need it kiss you anymore.”

Iida hasn’t stopped smiling and neither has Hanta. If he wasn’t so happy it would be painful.

“You never needed an excuse to kiss me.”

Hanta decides to test that out, and leans in to steal another one.
