“Hey look, you made it.” Eijirou’s whisper tickles Yuuga’s ear, the tone a precaution as to not wake up the other sleeping boy who currently had his head rested on the redhead’s chest.
Yuuga hummed with a nod, feeling Eijirou’s arm tighten around him. The twinkling boy’s hand rested on Eijirou’s stomach as Denki’s fingers surprisingly remained laced with his the entire night. Though, Yuuga hadn’t done any amount of sleeping and certainly hadn’t loosened his own grip, so perhaps it wasn’t all that surprising.
As a trainer with a couple of badges under his belt, Yuuga had hoped he’d be a lot braver than he actually was… but he hadn’t been able to shake off his fear since traveling through Lavender Town. The literal ghost city haunted not only his nightmares, but it plagued his waking hours as well. Eijirou and Denki had insisted on capturing a ghost-type in an attempt to try and get the upper hand when they’d make it to the Saffron Town’s gym; and Yuuga knew that they had the right idea, but he didn’t have to like it.
He had always feared ghost type, he had heard too many legends and stories about tortured souls and restless Pokemon. He had heard about how mischievous they were and he didn’t want to get possessed... or worse. Not to mention, Lavender Town was known for their massive graveyard for Pokemon who have passed on. It was a whole town built and run on tragedy and Yuuga didn’t like to think about the mortality of his dear sweet friends; his head momentarily turns to his Wigglytuff sleeping soundly by their feet; being kept warm besides Eijirou’s Arcanine and Denki’s Raichu. The Pokemon being out of their pokeballs upon Yuuga’s request for safety. Though, those particular three were never too keen on staying in their balls regardless.
“I’m sorry if I kept you up…” Yuuga finally speaks, head tilting a bit just enough to catch the sight of Eijirou’s jaw. The other shook his head.
“Nah, I slept for a while. Don’t worry.” His voice drops slightly as he feels Denki shift a bit, his nose digging into the readhead’s neck, the hand holding Yuuga’s tightening as he brought both of their hands higher up Eijirou’s chest. A chuckle of sorts pushed out of Eijirou’s lips before continuing to speak. “—I wanted to see the sunrise, anyways.”
Yuuga nodded, knowing Eijirou enjoyed watching the sunrise nearly every morning. He could still recall the first time he and Denki had figured it out. It was before they had found themselves in this sort of relationship, when they were just strangers that had decided to travel together for the sake of sharing resources and keeping the other company. It was Denki who had woken up at an uncharacteristic time of day, having complained about an uncomfortable cot, when he woke up Yuuga wondering if Eijirou had left them behind.
That’s when they had gone outside and noticed the boy sat on a bench, looking up at an orange sky as his then Growlithe did the same. At the time, he had looked so peaceful, neither he nor Denki had it in them to disrupt him. But, a handful of times now, Eijirou had, had company in the form of one or both of them. And though Yuuga could never agree with such an ungodly hour, he had to admit that it was a beautiful and humbling sight. He would go as far as to admit it overshadows the beauty of his own twinkle.
“...You two are going back to catch a ghost type, aren’t you?” Yuuga speaks after some time, eyes taking in the soft oranges and pinks of the morning sky.
“Yeah.” Eijirou answered, thumb rubbing against the lighter blonde’s arm. “You should come with us. We have the Silph Scope so we can actually see the ghost pokemon and it’ll help you with the next gym we’re taking on.” Again, the logic was sound but… the idea of actually doing it? “Coming along with us, facing your fears, it’s the manliest thing you can do.”
Yuuga sighed, leg sliding up a bit to tangle with the redhead’s. “I suppose…”
“Come on, Yama. Don’t worry, dude.” An utterly groggy voice speaks up, catching both of the boy’s attention. Ah, so Denki was awake. He didn’t move his face away from the crook of Eijirou’s neck, probably an attempt to keep the growing sunlight out of his eyes. “You’ll have us there, we’ll keep you safe.” He moved his hand away from Yuuga’s, gaining a small whine from him, before Denki ungracefully and blindly cupped Yuuga’s cheek—though, it felt more like the hand was resting on his face over actually doing any cupping. “We totally got you, babe.”
Eijirou simply nodded. ...Goodness, he is really going to have to step into that tower isn’t he?
“...Fine. But if you two leave me alone for a second I’ll… I’ll… do something.” It was much too early and Yuuga did not get enough sleep to be able to properly threaten his boyfriends. He was able to both hear and feel the breathy laugh Eijirou breathed out before the redhead pressed a kiss into his hair. While that was happening, Denki had found his hand again and had brought it to his own lips, holding it there.
“We won’t leave you...” Eijirou started.
“...We promise.” Denki ended.
