Work Text:
You didn’t make it a habit to visit Shouta at UA, especially after the USJ incident. Security was increasingly tighter and tighter around the school, and Shouta wasn’t quite the same afterwards. He was still the man you adored, but he was even more tired, and he was certainly still recovering. You understood and were completely patient with him, which he appreciated greatly and made sure you knew. It wasn’t anything personal, but his body needed more rest than his mind. Although it was rare, there were nights you two would spend together, and you were often the big spoon, caressing his hair and chest, comforting him and allowing him to sleep soundly, and even falling asleep with your cheek against his back.
Today was the exception though. You were feeling particularly sweet because today marked the sixth month after you two officially started seeing each other. Even though it was only six months, they were wonderful regardless of how stressful they were as well. You damn near had a heart attack when you found out what happened at USJ from Hizashi. While he was all bandaged up, you spent as much time with him as he’d allow you to, helping him with things he never asked you to, but you refused to let him do alone. You two were able to spend a significant amount of time together, but he was stubborn and independent as always, and it definitely took a while for him to accept that you weren’t going to not help him.
Once his bandages were removed and he was fully back to himself, other than being even more tired than usual and having a bit more limitations with his quirk, his stubbornness and independence came back even stronger and he insisted that you didn’t need to take care of him. While you absolutely loved it, you knew it was time to back off and give him space. He insisted he begin his night patrols again, and you saw him less and less because of that. You were worried that you wouldn’t get to see him tonight, so you took matters into your own hands and asked Hizashi to get you a visitor’s badge for the day, which he happily obliged to.
Your timing was impeccable, arriving just after classes were released for lunch. Most of the students were in the cafeteria so you were able to walk through the halls without running into many people before crossing paths with Hizashi, who greeted you with a great and enthusiastic smile.
“Heeeyyyy! D’you need some help finding your maaaan?” he asked, placing his arm on your shoulder casually and bending over to your height.
You laughed and smiled at him, shrugging a bit. “Well, I haven’t found him yet. Do you kno-”
“Have no fear!” Hizashi cut you off and then, before you could stop him, belted out, “AIZAWAAAA, COME GET YOUR GIRLFR-”
Before he finished speaking, his mouth was covered by Shouta’s capturing weapon and he was pulled away from you, flailing. You looked in the direction he was being pulled, your cheeks rosy with a vibrant blush, and suddenly your wrist was wrapped in the same cloth and you were pulled to him as well. Before you could say anything, Shouta whisked you away into the 1-A classroom and abandoned Hizashi, locking the door so none of his students barged in.
“Dear, what’s the meaning of this?” he asked, a touch concerned on your sudden appearance at his workplace. You only ever visited him one other time here, and it was after classes let out for the day and there were no students around.
With a small and nervous laughter, you held up a pastry box that was tied with a bow. “I wanted to surprise you with something sweet today. I didn’t expect Hizashi to make an announcement like that when he offered to help me find you.” As you spoke, you walked over to his desk and sat on the edge of it. You faced him and held the box out to him with a joyous smile. “Happy six months, Shouta.”
He came over to you and sat at the desk, receiving the gift box with a mild curiosity. In an instant, the box was opened and you saw a soft smile on Shouta’s lips just before it became his characteristic smirk.
Inside was a collection of four different pastries you had custom ordered for this special occasion. There was a slice of strawberry shortcake where the strawberries were fashioned into cats, and a slice of vanilla cake with a paw print pattern and one strawberry cat next to an orange slice and bigger puff of whipped cream that looked like the softest, happiest cat ever. Of course, there was also a mini key lime pie with another whipped cream kitty decorating its center, and an impressive cat-shaped roll filled with cat-shaped fruit. Shouta stared at the cute cat confections, stunned by how simultaneously precious and delicious they looked. He looked back to you with a smile and reached out to touch your cheek with his hand. You leaned into his touch and were brought down into a soft, short, and sweet kiss.
“You’re sweeter than these look,” he mused. “You came by because you didn’t think I’d make time to see you tonight, didn’t you?”
You blushed, having been called out so effortlessly by him. “Ehh, well, no, that wasn’t the only reason, I really wanted to surprise you, and I-” Your words were cut off with a forkful of cake.
“I can’t finish this by myself.”
You smiled at him, and the two of you enjoyed the lunch period together eating sweets instead of a real meal. Before the students returned, you left so that you wouldn’t stir up a fuss, but he made sure to give you another soft kiss and a promise to see you after classes were done.
