Sweet Compliments Bitter

Summary:

Aizawa knows that Deku, the #1 Pro Hero in Japan, is just a duplicate of All Might. And he knows that he can't stand heroes in the media's spotlight, since all they bring is trouble and gossip.

Aizawa thinks it's a good thing no one's picked up on his relationship with Deku.

Notes:

so my 4-month (oct.-jan.) seasonal depression has begun. i hate the holidays. but i also hate that i hate the holidays & don't want to spend time w my family, so i end up feeling guilty & depressed. hence why these 4 months suck dick.

anyways, i'll try my best to update & whatnot. i worked on this before thanksgiving but then went back to florida. i'm back in the freezing midwest & i want to get some of my one-shots that i had worked on before the trip outta the way before i tackle the longer chapters.

i'll put notes on the OC @ the end notes! enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

He was pretty certain that the pro-hero Deku was just an All Might replica. Maybe they’re related, Shouta wonders. The same wide, blinding, smile that could be compared to the sun itself, his hood of the forest green jumpsuit had bunny ears… Probably reminiscent of All Might’s weird hair. Saying that stupid “I am here!” phrase whenever they pop up at the scene. Strangely charismatic, yet a trembling leaf when not in front of the cameras.

Shouta sighed, already not liking the idea of working with the younger hero. He still has to teach at UA, still has to face Yagi-san, still has to deal with not losing his mind and strangling his class. He really really doesn’t want to deal with this media bug. The man was a hub for anything news or gossip.

“Good morning, Eraserhead-san!”

Speak of the devil, Shouta turning his head from where he was resting in his sleeping bag to the front door of his classroom. “Mornin’ kid. Stay quiet. Don’t want my students, or the rest of the school for that matter, to pile up in here jus’ cause you’re here.”

Deku let out a chuckle while shaking his head, closing the door behind him with his foot. He moves to the podium in the middle of the class, putting a to-go cup of coffee down with two packets of sugar. “No creamer. Two sugars, just the right enough of sweet to compliment the bitter.”

Shouta found himself smirking, his mind connecting the similarities between the coffee comment and the hero pair. “Thanks kid. You sure you wanna do this? I’m sure Yagi-san can handle this. My class isn’t exactly well-behaved.”

“I’m sure this is fine, Eraser-san. Even if I didn’t go to UA, it’s still an honor to substitute this class for Toshinori-san. The old man never wants me out of his sight,” the green-haired man laughed before looking to the clock, straightening out his costume. “It’s almost time, I think. I’ll make sure to keep your class behaving nicely. I’ve heard of your expulsion streak.”

“Just make sure no one injures someone else or themselves too bad. I’ll be here anyways,” with that, Shouta zipped up his bright yellow cocoon, tuning out his rowdy students entering his homeroom.

Soon enough, he heard the louder of his students, threatening to use his quirk on one of his friends, the class president politely yelling at some of his classmates to sit at their desks correctly, some girls gathering in a hub already pointing and giggling at the pro hero standing in the front of their classroom.

Shouta unzipped his sleeping bag just as the late bell rang, watching as everyone scrambled to their seats. “I’m sure you’re all wondering why the number one pro is here today. He’ll be substituting for All Might to see if you all have the potential to become real heroes. The whole day will consist of working through different simulations for different types of missions. You’ll also be working on close- and far-ranged combat with and without relying on your quirks. I’ll be observing as the second teacher, but, today Deku is your teacher.” Shouta sighed as his class started to squirm and whisper to their desk neighbors, already trying to figure out what the hero wanted to do. “Your turn, kid.”

Deku nodded, albeit cursing at himself for stuttering in his greeting. “I’ll be going through different rescue, stealth, combat, disaster missions. Some of them will go smoothly… Others, not so much. Since UA’s got a tip-top shape simulation room, I’ve brought a friend of mine that will be able to input the information of different missions from the past. I’m sure you all will be able to go through them as smoothly as I was at the time.” The man inhaled sharply before continuing, “Yamashita-san is probably already waiting for us there, I know he got here before my five o’clock alarms went off this morning… Try not to startle the man, either. His quirk can get altered by his own emotions if he feels stressed.

Just because he’s got every mission detailed to the tee, if he feels threatened or startled during the process of recalling the memory, the memory itself can be altered forever. If in real life the mission went smoothly, and he’s startled while working, the mission might go awry and the simulations might cause serious harm to himself and to you. Other than that little warning, let’s do introductions! As you might know, I’m Deku! I’ve got a powerful quirk, I call it Full Cowling. I’m interested to know and learn about all of your quirks today!”

After the class died down their squeals about being taught from the number one hero in Japan, the class went one by one introducing themselves and their quirks. Deku noted some of the louder quirks, the angry blonde with an explosions quirk, earphone-jack girl that can use her heartbeats to nullify people, that brainwashing quirk; Deku seriously wished he brought his notebooks to take notes and question the kids.

Shouta watched as his class behaved throughout the introductions, he figured they wanted to be on their best behaviors in front of the top pro-hero. He listened to Deku’s onslaught of questions to the different students about how their quirks work and then pairing them off for different stealth missions. As Deku looked back to his lazy form in his sleeping bag, he sighed and unzipped the opening to step out.

“I bet this can be very exciting for all of you, but please remember you will be up against either simulations of different villains or your other peers. If you do get injured let us know and Yamashita-san will be able to stop the simulation completely. If there isn’t anymore questions, head to the locker rooms to change into your costumes. Dismissed.”

Class 3-A stormed out of the classroom and into the hallway in a less than safe fashion, girls and boys separating to go to their designated changing areas. Shouta turned to face the younger hero still standing near the podium. “I don’t think they noticed.”

Deku blinked at Shouta, playing innocent. “Notice what? That we’re a little more than just pro-heroes that kinda work together?”

Shouta let out a laugh, and Midoriya never got used to the smile that came along with the sound. “If you clean the kitchen after dinner, I’ll give you some of my own notes about these kids. I’m sure you’ll find some worthy sidekicks from this hell class.”

The green-haired man seemed to consider it before giving Shouta his iconic thumbs up. “Deal, old man.”

Aizawa Shouta still can’t believe he’s dating All Might’s duplicate.

Notes:

OC:
山下 謙信 (Yamashita Kenshin)
- 山 (yama): "mountain"
-下 (shita): "under, below"
- 謙 (ken): "humble, modest"
- 信 (shin): "trust, believe"
Quirk: Historian
- he's actually paired w another OC of mine lol (they've got a simulation quirk- they can use a specific space to do a simulation, haven't figured out much yet for them)
- he's very quiet & humble, v intelligent. his memory is excellent
- like mentioned in the story, if he does get rattled or something, the memory can alter. big side effect.
- he's not a hero! he works in Deku's agency (in this story at least), & he usually goes wherever his memory is needed. he's dubbed "security camera" in a story of mine lol

aizawa & deku calling each other "kid" & "old man" is more of teasing rather than more of a meaner sense. they're both around the same age in this fic, but deku is still a bit younger than aizawa.
