Work Text:
It's been two years.
Her friends and colleagues have been telling her to go home for the day. But, Ochako is a hero and heroes don't take days off.
However, if she was being honest, Ochako did want to be at home. She was getting sick and tired of seeing pity in everyone's eyes when they look at her. Those annoying sad smiles were driving her insane.
But, she powered through the day. Went patrolling, took down some villains here and there, even talked to some fans.
Yeah, it's been going well so far. Until, one young fan came up to her with some flowers.
Ochako crouched down to her level when she approached. The little girl might've been about eight years old. As soon as Ochako saw her red eyes, her throat constricted. Her eyes even started to sting a bit, but she held back her tears.
No, she should be over it by now. The little girl gave Ochako the flowers. Yellow roses, almost the color of his hair…
That was Ochako's breaking point, she's had enough for the day. As soon as she finished her report, Ochako left her agency. The cold November air felt like ice on her face. She sighed and walked home.
As soon as Ochako closed the door behind her, she let out a shaky breath and walked further into her apartment - their apartment.
After she took a quick shower, she went to her bedroom. Ochako picked up a black shirt that's been lying on the floor and brought it up to her nose. It doesn't even smell like him anymore…
He's been gone for two years now, you have to move on.
Ochako held the shirt close to her chest as she sat down on her bed.
How can she move on? Not when she comes home expecting him to be there either cooking or playing video games. When she expect him to come up to hug her from behind and kiss her neck like she always loved.
He was the love of her life and he was never coming back.
Needing to hear his voice, she reached for her phone and after a couple rings, she does hears it. “What do you want? Just text me instead.”
His voicemail. It wasn’t the way she wanted to hear it. However it was better than nothing, she supposed.
After listening to the voicemail going through the instructions, Ochako hears the beep and began to cry.
“Katsuki, you idiot. You promised you would never leave me.” Ochako whispered, trying to keep her voice from cracking. She hangs up, threw her phone on the side he normal slept on, and broke down.
Her sobs were the only noise that filled the apartment then.
Ochako went to sleep that night holding onto his shirt for dear life. The only light in the room was from the full moon outside, making the wedding ring on her nightstand glimmer one last time.

Ochako had enough, she knew she couldn't avoid him anymore. It's time to go see Katsuki.
As soon as she arrived at her destination, Ochako took a deep breath to steady her heart. It's been so long since she last came here…She began to walk knowing exactly where he was. She stopped when she found him and sat down.
“Hey Katsuki, it's been a while.” Ochako crossed her legs. “I know I've should've come sooner, but it's so hard to…”
Ochako felt a few tears fall then, closing her eyes before she continued. “I can't believe it's already been two years….it feels like it's been just yesterday we were cuddling up on the couch watching that dumb movie you loved so much.” She chuckled.
Ochako opened her eyes then, allowing her eyes to read over the words she knew by heart.
Katsuki Bakugou
Inspiring Hero and Loving Husband
1998 - 20xx
Ochako couldn't stop her tears even if she wanted to. “I missed you so much.” Ochako sniffled, wiping her tears away. “I wish you were still here with us….with me.”
She looked back at Katsuki's tombstone. “I want to be strong for both us, but you have no idea how much I need you.”
Ochako brought her hands up to cover her eyes and continued to cry. “Sometimes I feel like I'm going to wake up and see you sleeping next to me. Like this had all been a really bad dream.”
Ochako didn't know how long she'd been sitting there crying, but the wind suddenly wrapped around her lightly as though someone was hugging her. Ochako slowly dropped her hands and opened her eyes. “Katsuki?”
The sun peeked out from behind the clouds, having the light shine directly on her. The air picked up causing her hair to dance. She smile then, a genuine smile. Ochako wiped her tears away and laughed a little.
She stood up and wiped the dirt off of her skirt. “I love you so much, Katsuki. Promise to look after me, okay?” Once again, the wind gently brushed her face and Ochako smiled again.
Ochako looked over Katsuki's tombstone one final time before heading back to her car. Somehow, despite knowing it wasn't possible, but she knew Katsuki was there with her.
Once she reached her car, the wind blew again, but Ochako could've sworn she heard a voice - his voice. She heard it say the three words she needed to hear.
I miss you.
