Chapter Text
People seemed to think that because Bakugo was a hero, because he was successful and driven and still aiming for the number one spot, he couldn’t possibly have the time to want anything else. They were wrong–Katsuki Bakugo wanted a great many things, but one desire stood apart from the rest.
“It’s too fucking quiet around here.” Your husband complains, his head resting in your lap, eyes drifting shut as you weave your fingers through his unkempt hair.
“You told me you wanted to relax.”
He sighs and leans into your touch as you trace the outline of his ear with your thumb. “I do, but I’m used to noise.”
“Want me turn on the TV or something?” You ask, already stretching over to reach for the remote. He catches your wrist and drags it down to his chest.
“No.” His eyes flutter open. “That won’t help.”
You had half a mind to get snarky with him, to roll your eyes and call him out for being the fickle man-child he was. Then again, there’s something in the way he tilts his chin up and just stares at you that makes you hesitate.
“Hey,” Bakugo mumbles, his voice low, “I love you. You know that?”
You raise an eyebrow, a bit suspicious, but that doesn’t stop the grin from creeping up the corners of your face. “I would hope so–you’re stuck with me, after all.”
His fingers trail their way up your hand, ghosting over your knuckles and twisting at the metal band on your fourth finger. You don’t miss the way his thumb mimics the action on his own ring. At that moment, it really seems like there’s some sort of invisible tether linking them.
“And you’re happy with me?”
“Of course.” It’s an automatic response. “Babe, where are you going with thi–”
“I want a kid.” He interrupts, jaw tight. You nearly forget how to breathe, choking at the suddenness of the confession. “I know we said we’d wait a while, but shit, how long is ‘a while?’”
It shouldn’t have come as such a surprise–this was something you’d talked about. A lot. Back before you were even engaged, Bakugo had been very clear about the whole issue of children and family. He wanted it all, which you found strange, considering that he barely had the patience to deal with actual, grown adults. Still, you were in no place to complain–deep down, you knew it was something you wanted too, albeit, not immediately. You needed time to get your own life together before you even thought about that.
Cut to two years after your wedding, and here you were, still feeling grossly underprepared. This wasn’t like discussing what kind of house you’d buy or where you’d spend your honeymoon–this was a living, breathing human being that the two of you wanted to bring into the world. Sure, Bakugo’s job made it so that money wasn’t really an issue, and sure, you certainly had more time now that you were working from home, but was it really that simple? Maybe you were still too young. Maybe you were too irresponsible. Maybe, you’d never be ready. That possibility scared you more than all the others, because, you realized, you wanted this. Badly.
So you decide not to hesitate.
“Okay.”
“Okay?” He repeats, like he’s not sure what that means.
“Yeah.” You grip his hand a little too tight. “Okay. Let’s go for it.”
There’s a second where the two of you just sit there in silence, staring at one another. Then the corner of his mouth tilts upward, and you feel yourself mimicking the gesture. There’s something so soft, so affectionate in the way he just lays there, taking you in. Neither of you feels the need to say anything, savoring the moment of pure, unspoken intimacy.
Slowly, he lifts his head, his smirk growing with every centimeter he rises. He props himself up on an elbow and you meet him halfway, pressing your lips to his. A promise. It’s gentle and sweet, with a pleasant buzz that lingers long after he leans back into your lap. He presses his face into your abdomen and you go back to teasing his hair, both of you trying to contain the extent of your excitement, if only for a moment.
