Just *Check*ing You Out

Summary:

She lifted up the receipt so she could mockingly inspect it when she noticed something on the customer's copy of the receipt. There was a note written in pen there:

 Text me maybe?
395-555-2934
xx Jimin :)

--

Jungkook's friends are all girls.

He can't help it really, they're just easiest for him to befriend - although it’s annoying when everyone teases him about it.

One night, he’s out to dinner with his friends, watching in amusement as they all try as hard as they can to flirt with the cute waiter — Park Jimin — who happens to go to their college.

When a check placed by his friend's hand contains a note with Jimin's number, Jungkook has to swallow down his feelings and be happy for her.

Because that note was clearly meant for her, right?

Notes:

another short cute fluffy fic <3

i posted this prompt a while ago on twitter (@mooniitjk) and i promised to write it so... here it is! i hope you enjoy :)

FUCK

"So, are you dating any of them?"

Jungkook sighed deeply, rolling his eyes as he tried to focus on his math. The guy sitting next to him, Jaesung, did not seem to want to leave him alone. "No, Jaesung, I'm not dating any of them," he grumbled, rubbing his eyes and jotting down some numbers.

Jaesung put his cheek in his palm, tilting his head to the side. "Do you have a crush on one of them then?" he asked, his eyes wide, math forgotten. "You have to have a crush on one of them. Or wait, no, you have a girlfriend already, right? All of your friends are girls so you must be great with the ladies. Who is she?"

Jungkook sighed again, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath to keep from snapping. Why was it so hard for people to understand that he was gay and had zero romantic interest in any of his female friends — or any females for that matter. And he really just wanted to finish his math work and be done with it.

"I don't have a girlfriend, Jae," he mumbled, shaking the hair out of his eyes and clenching his fists subtly, telling himself he would finish these last few problems before class was over. "Now can you please just let me do my work?"

Jaesung studied him for a little bit, Jungkook believing that he could finally work in peace.

He was wrong.

"So are you gay then? You're like one of those gay best friends that every large group of girls has?"

Jungkook groaned loudly. "Can you please stop talking?"

"So you are," Jaesung mused, leaning back in his seat. "Hm, I never would've guessed it. You know, I was positive that Jiyoon had a crush on you at one point. That's too bad, you would've been a cute couple."

"She did," Jungkook grumbled. "But she got over it, that was literally four years ago. Now will you please stop asking weird questions and let me finish this damn assignment?"

Jaesung closed his mouth, looking away and turning to his own paper.

The two of them worked in silence until Jungkook was lulled into a false sense of security.

"If you don't want any of them, can you set me up with one of your friends?"

"Jesus fucking christ, do you ever shut up?"

It was because of Jaesung that Jungkook was in a bad mood until he met up with his friends. The irritating thing was, questions like those were nowhere near uncommon. People teased Jungkook daily for being in a group full of girls, asking him if he had crushes on them or if he was dating one of them or if he was their gay best friend.

It was annoying to no end.

"Why do you look so upset, Jeon Jungkook?" Soomin asked in a mock precocious voice, pushing her glasses up with one finger. "Care for a palm reading?"

Jungkook rolled his eyes good-naturedly. "I don't think I need a palm reading to tell me I'm a stressed gay with a massive headache."

Minjung grinned, shrugging. "Who knows, that palm reading could do you some good," she told him, waggling her eyebrows. "Just yesterday Soomin told me I'm going to marry a rich guy one year and one day older than me and I'll retire with fifty munchkin cats and a singular black pomeranian. She read that all from my palms! One hundred percent accurate, guaranteed."

Jungkook looked over to see Soomin smiling at him smugly. She held out her hand. "Come on, dear," she cooed, batting her lashes. "Just one look."

He snorted at her act, caving and putting his hand in hers. "Fine, Ms. Predict-the-Future. Tell me what the cells of my hand have formulated for you. And by the way, I'm pretty sure palm reading doesn't usually predict the future."

"Shut up, you're discrediting my trade," Soomin hissed, peering down at Jungkook's palm.

"You just started this 'trade' two days ago."

"Still discrediting. And be quiet, the sound waves of your voice are disrupting my reading."

Jungkook chuckled quietly at his friend's antics, knowing she was just making a joke so he would feel better, which he appreciated.

"Hm," she mused, stroking his palm with the tip of her forefinger. "It appears that... Hm... Very interesting..."

"Well? What does it say, O Lee Soomin the Wise?" Jungkook asked before she shushed him again.

"Hm... I see... Your palm is telling me that... You are a stressed gay with a massive headache."

Jungkook laughed at her reading, shaking his head. "Wow, your skills are really out of this world. I don't know how you gathered facts this accurate."

She grinned up at him. "It's all part of my trade, baby."

Suddenly, a loud whistle broke their conversation, causing the two of them to turn their heads to locate the sound.

"Damn, Jeon, I didn't know you and Lee were together!"

Jungkook groaned loudly, pulling his hand out of Soomin's as he flipped his classmate off. "Oh fuck off, Hanbin," he called, receiving a shit-eating grin in return.

Youngsoon just shook her head. "Some day the message will get out," she tsked, pursing her lips.

"Of what, that I'm gay?" Jungkook snorted. "Then everyone's convinced I'm nothing but the quote unquote 'gay best friend that every large group of girls has.' It's bullshit and it's annoying and I wish people would just mind their own business. Who cares who I'm friends with?"

"We care," Haewon told him sweetly. He was about to open his mouth to thank her when she continued, "Because you're the one paying for our dinner tonight."

Jungkook smacked her arm, narrowing his eyes. "I never agreed to this."

"Actually, you did," Eunae piped up. "You typed the word 'agreed' to our groupchat when we said that you would pay." She showed him her phone for evidence.

"Nuh uh uh," Jungkook retorted, smirking. "Technically, I only agreed that I'd have to pay if I didn't reply in five minutes. But I did reply in less than a minute. Therefore, I am not obligated to pay." He crossed his arms over his chest, pleased with himself when the girls were silent.

"Fine then," Haewon huffed. "You got your way out of this one. For once."

Jungkook grinned. "Hell yeah!" he cheered, everyone else just staring at him with a blank expression. He put his arm down. "Fine, don't celebrate with me."

"We don't celebrate with you because you're lame," Seoyoon told him matter-of-factly, Jungkook pretending to be deeply offended.

"Gasp! How dare you! Lame is the worst insult there could ever be... I'm devastated..."

Jiyoon let out a bark of laughter. "Okay, Captain Smarty-pants," she snorted. "That's enough sarcasm sauce for today. You don't want to overdose."

Jungkook pouted. "But I'm addicted..."

"No overdosing," Jiyoon warned him, wagging her finger in his face. "Or you'll have to pay for dinner tonight."

That shut him up.

Jungkook got out of his car, heading towards the restaurant that his friends had chosen a few days ago. He wore a light blue button up shirt tucked into his black ripped skinny jeans, not trying to look too dressed up (but also not too casual since it was a fairly nice dinner place after all).

He hooked his thumbs in the belt loops of his jeans as he made his way towards the door, about to open it, when he saw a familiar face.

It was Jinwoo, another guy from one of his lecture halls. He was holding hands with a girl as he grinned at Jungkook. "Well, well, well," he said, "if it isn't Mr. Jeon Jungkook. Going somewhere nice? To meet one of your many girlfriends, I presume?"

Jungkook rolled his eyes at his classmate. "I don't have any girlfriends, Jinwoo," he informed him, sighing exaggeratedly. He was so done with the same old 'joke' repeated to him over and over. It never seemed to stop. "I'm just going to have dinner with my friend group. As friends."

"But they're all female, so they're your girl friends," Jinwoo teased, waggling his eyebrows.

"Yes, they are female," Jungkook said in a monotone voice. "I can't believe I'm friends with seven people of the opposite sex. This is revolutionary."

Jinwoo laughed at that. Jungkook had no idea what he was laughing at. The girl Jinwoo was holding hands with just looked confused at the whole ordeal. "Okay, man," he grinned, clapping Jungkook on the shoulder. "But you know all of us are waiting for you to get together with one of them."

He tugged the girl gently and they both started to walk away. "I don't like any of them romantically!" Jungkook yelled after him.

"Sure!"

"I'm gay!"

"I can't hear you! Bye Jeon!"

Jungkook rubbed his forehead, trying to fend off the headache that he knew was forming. He just sighed once more before pulling the restaurant door open and walking inside.

He immediately spotted the bright red hair of Haewon, making his way over to the group. It appeared that he was the last one to join them.

"Look who decided to show up," Eunae called as Jungkook approached, making the rest of them turn to look. They all greeted him in various ways as he sat down in the empty seat between Seoyoon and Youngsoon.

"Jungkook? Late? Can't say I'm surprised," Jiyoon said, smirking as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"Oh be quiet," Jungkook huffed, picking up the menu and flipping through it. "I got held back by Jinwoo teasing me about you guys again."

Minjung snorted. "Some day they'll give it up," she said, "but it doesn't seem like that day is any time soon."

"I know, and it's sad," Jungkook lamented.

Seoyoon rubbed his shoulder comfortingly. "Hey, don't worry about it," she soothed. "I know it's irritating but the best thing to do is ignore it. If you don't respond, it'll be a lot harder for them to tease you."

Jungkook shrugged as he put the menu down, having chosen what he wanted. "I guess," he answered. "It's just so hard not to correct them."

Youngsoon slung her arm over his shoulders, pinching his cheek teasingly. "What a cutie," she grinned. "I know how riled up you get, but Seoyoon's right. It's just better to ignore them, and eventually, they'll stop." Jungkook opened his mouth to respond when he heard a voice coming from his left.

"Good evening." Jungkook turned to see a silver-haired waiter standing by their table. He tried very hard not to gulp when he recognized the man as Park Jimin, one of the guys who went to his university. Definitely one of the prettiest, too. If not the prettiest.

It seemed like his friends all agreed, Youngsoon retracting her arm from around Jungkook's shoulders while the rest of the girls gaped at Jimin.

"My name is Jimin, I'll be your server for today," Jimin said in that gentle, pretty voice of his. "Are you guys ready to order?" He was met by a chorus of enthusiastic "yes"s from around the table (all except for Jungkook, who just flushed and looked down at his menu).

Jimin took the orders from the girls, who were attempting to subtly fight to get to talk to him first. The way they were tucking their hair behind their ears or playing with their necklace or batting their eyelashes, however, was anything but subtle. Jungkook chuckled to himself at their enthusiasm, but he truly couldn't blame them.

"And for you, sir?" Jimin asked, pen poised over his notepad. Jungkook's head snapped up, his eyes wide as he stared at Jimin briefly. He had almost forgotten that he had to order something too.

He tripped over his words a lot more than he'd like, but he got his order out anyway. Jimin smiled at him politely before tucking his notepad into his apron.

"Your food will be out shortly," he told the group, receiving several choruses of thank you so much and take your time from around the table.

After Jimin left, it was silent for a few moments before Jungkook spoke up.

"You guys are not subtle at all," Jungkook snickered, met by a barrage of loud protests. "Hey! Why are you booing me, I'm right!"

Soomin tsked as she shook her head at him. "You have no right to point that out when we all saw how you were drooling over him," she countered. Jungkook held up his hands as the other girls agreed.

"Okay one, I was not drooling," he said matter-of-factly. "And two, y'all have a better chance with him than I ever could, so. Let loose, my children."

"Ugh, so kind," Minjun said in mock reverence. "We love a Prince Charming."

"Shut up," he groaned. "I'm just laying out the facts. Plus, it's cute. If one of you gets his attention and ends up dating him I won't even be upset."

Eunae smirked at him. "Is that a challenge?"

Jungkook's eyes widened. "Oh, no..."

They all laughed at that before they started eyeing Jimin from across the room and whispering about how hot he was. Jungkook seriously couldn't blame them, but they were acting so much like stereotypical giggly straight high school girls that he had to laugh to himself.

Every once in a while, someone would call Jimin over to get more water or ask a clarifying question or just plain blatantly flirt, and Jungkook would just watch them in amusement. It really was too funny to watch his friends fall all over themselves for Jimin's attention.

He was so preoccupied with watching his friends gossip and blush about the cute waiter that he never even noticed the pair of eyes watching him, noticing the way he smiled or giggled or poked his friends' sides.

Soon enough Jimin came back with the plates and bowls of food, setting them gently in front of each of the girls. He always received a warm thank you and a bright smile in return, which he always politely responded to.

Jungkook tried his best not to do a full body cringe when he heard Haewon say, "Thank you Jimin-ssi, you're so strong, I can't believe you can carry that many dishes at once!" Jimin just chuckled good-naturedly and thanked her, Jungkook staring down at the table in second-hand embarrassment.

"And here you are, sir," Jungkook heard a voice say warmly. He looked up to see Jimin holding his food out for him and he took it gently, helping the waiter lower it onto the table.

"Thank you," he murmured, fighting off a blush as he turned to watch Jimin go.

Except Jimin didn't go. When Jungkook looked up, their eyes met instead. Jungkook gulped as his eyes went wide, licking his lips nervously at the sudden attention before he looked away as fast as he could. Jimin's gaze lingered for a moment longer before he turned to disappear around the corner.

Jungkook felt his heart racing as he tried to calm down. Jeez. Jimin had way too much of an effect on him and he was not here for it. He'd rather leave the flirting to his female friends. Maybe one of them would be lucky enough to earn Jimin's attention.

And as expected, they really never did give up, finding every opportunity possible to flirt with Jimin or shower him in compliments. Jungkook could tell he was flustered by the attention, but that he was still enjoying it. Jungkook, too, would be pleased if he was into girls and seven pretty women showed obvious interest in him.

Keeping his eyes stubbornly fixed on the tablecloth in minor embarrassment, Jungkook consistently failed to notice the way Jimin's eyes would shift to him every time he came back to the table.

"And how is the food tasting over here?" Jimin asked, gaze landing on the side of Jungkook's face yet again, hoping the pretty brunette would talk to him.

Soomin grinned at him. "Delicious," she purred, fluttering her eyelashes at the waiter.

"Fantastic," Minjung added, eyes staring reverently up at Jimin.

Youngsoon bit her lip softly. "It's perfection."

"Mouthwatering," Jiyoon piped up.

"Couldn't be better," Haewon complimented.

Seoyoon smiled brightly. "Just wonderful."

"Thank you so much," Eunae finished. Jimin nodded at them, grinning.

"I'm glad, I'll tell the chefs," he told them warmly.

"It's very good," Jungkook said softly, not wanting to go without leaving a nice comment for fear of appearing rude.

Jimin's eyes snapped over to look at him, his smile widening almost imperceptibly.

"I'm glad," he repeated, his voice just a little bit gentler.

When Jimin walked away again, Jungkook turned to his friends. "I'm honestly not sure whether you guys were referring to Jimin-ssi or the food," he teased.

"Why not both?" Seoyoon answered, waggling her eyebrows. Jungkook just shook his head in amusement.

"You guys are really too much," he chuckled. "Now the poor guy has to choose between seven beautiful girls. How could you do this to him?"

"Beautiful? You're so cheesy, Jeon Jungkook," Jiyoon laughed. "Or, of course, he may very well 'choose' none of us. It's not like he's forced to do something with any of us."

"Woke girl," Youngsoon said, nodding her head approvingly.

Eunae leaned back in her chair. "For real though, this was really good," she sighed happily. "The food here is delicious. 10/10 would come again and not just for the cute waiter." There was a clamor of agreement all around.

"I'm so glad Jungkook's paying," Soomin winked, Jungkook just rolling his eyes good-naturedly.

"Of course," he said dryly. "You're so very welcome." They all laughed together.

The eight of them finished their food and just talked for a while, small pockets of conversations forming as they fell into their natural rhythm of friendship.

Eventually it seemed like they had been sitting there long enough, and Jungkook didn't want to seem like he or his group was taking up the restaurant's space or time.

So he mustered up the courage to wave Jimin over.

"Hello, sir, may I have the check?" he asked, proud that he didn't stumble over any of his words in front of the beautiful man. Jimin nodded with a smile and disappeared into the back.

It seemed almost as if there was something else in that smile, but Jungkook was probably imagining it so he shook his head to clear his mind of unnecessary delusional thoughts.

Jimin came back a few minutes later with the check in his hand, placing it to the left of Jungkook's arm.

"Whenever you're ready, let me know and I'll collect it," he told the table, even though his eyes were fixed on Jungkook.

Youngsoon picked it up, as it was lying by her right hand, and smiled at him before turning to her friends while reading the bill. "Okay, I'm assuming we're just going to pitch in whatever fits what we ordered? Or should we have one person use their card while everyone pays them back?"

"Jungkook's card," Minjung said automatically, the boy glaring at her in response.

"How dare," he said haughtily. "I refuse to subject myself to the possibility of getting pranked by all of you so no one ever pays me back."

Youngsoon shook her head in mock disapproval. "How sad," she sighed. "But fear not, friends! I shall take the fall and use my card. But if you guys don't pay me back... Just remember that I know where you live."

"That's mildly terrifying," Jiyoon told her.

She grinned. "I know." She lifted up the receipt so she could mockingly inspect it when she noticed something on the customer's copy of the receipt. There was a note written in pen there:

Text me maybe?

395-555-2934

xx Jimin :)

Haewon gasped loudly, having read over her shoulder. "No way," she gaped. "He gave you his number? And kisses and a smiley? Damn, you really won." The other girls tried to look over and get a peek at the note.

Youngsoon bit her lip to keep from smiling too hard, feeling a bit giddy at being "chosen" by Jimin as she showed the note to the rest of the table. "I can't believe he gave it to me," she said excitedly. "He really placed it by my hand so I would see it..."

"You're so lucky," Haewon lamented. "But also, I'm proud of you."

"Yeah, Soonie, congrats," Soomin grinned. "I guess you're just irresistible."

"We love a queen of getting cute guys' attention," Jungkook teased, trying to shove down the trickle of disappointment he felt. Of course it was dumb to have thought that Jimin was looking at him or smiling specially at him and that it was for a reason. Youngsoon really was gorgeous and Jungkook couldn't blame Jimin in the slightest for his choice.

Youngsoon placed her card on the tray and waved Jimin over, handing the check back to the waiter with an especially suggestive smile. Jimin almost seemed confused at that, but once again Jungkook dismissed it as part of his imagination.

They continued to discuss how lucky Youngsoon was while the girl beamed and thanked her friends for their support. She got her credit card back, signing the check and adding a little heart at the end for good measure, the rest of them shrugging on their jackets and getting up to leave.

The group headed out the door, chatting amongst themselves. "Bye, thank you for coming!" Jimin called after them, met by a chorus of thank you so muchs from the girls.

He frowned, a little confused and a little disappointed when Jungkook just tucked his hands in his pockets, head down without saying anything as he exited the restaurant.

Okay, Jungkook felt bad for not answering the waiter, as he had been nothing but friendly and helpful the whole night, but he couldn't help but feel the disappointment build in his tummy as he pushed open the door without a word. He had no right to be upset, Jimin could give his number to whoever the fuck he wanted, but yet here Jungkook was.

He shrugged it off. Whatever. He'd probably be over it in, like, a few weeks anyway.

Jungkook was trying not to think too much about Jimin when he went to class the next day. Clearly nothing was going on between them, nor was anything ever going to go on between them. He was just caught up in the moment of last night, obviously.

It didn't mean he didn't still think Jimin was insanely attractive, but. That didn't matter anyway.

He wanted to be happy for his friend, he really did. He would feel horrible if he was bitter just because he wasn't the one to get Jimin's number. What kind of friend would he be then? He would never be able to forgive himself for it.

It didn't help that he had already had a kind of tiny, minuscule, insignificant, definitely not noticeable crush on Jimin prior to the night before.

He totally didn't think Jimin was adorable for feeding the stray cats that wandered near the dorms.

He certainly didn't think Jimin was the sweetest human being for always volunteering at homeless shelters and community service organizations.

He definitely didn't feel any type of way when Jimin giggled or laughed — nor did he think it sounded like bells chiming.

There was no way he believed Jimin must've been a literal angel sent to brighten up this godforsaken world.

And he absolutely did not think Jimin was the most breathtaking human being on the entire goddamn planet.

Obviously. Obviously not.

Knowing that one of his best friends already had the man's attention, Jungkook shoved all of those things deep down in an attempt to never resurface them again. He refused to be that jealous bitch who wasn't supportive of his friend just because he envied her. He would never be able to forgive himself.

So when he passed by Jimin in the courtyard, instead of smiling shyly at him like he usually would, Jungkook just ducked his head and walked faster, avoiding eye contact and completely missing the way Jimin's face fell in dismay.

Jungkook couldn't risk falling any harder than he was already starting to.

It went like that for a while: Jimin raising his hand to wave at the brunette and Jungkook rapidly averting his eyes and shoving his hands deep in his coat pockets. He felt bad that he was dismissing Jimin but at the same time, he couldn't afford the attraction that would undoubtedly come along with any sort of interaction with the silver-haired. He just hoped that Jimin wasn't too upset, considering he was chasing after Youngsoon and not him anyway.

Well. Jimin had screwed up. Really, he had meant for the cute boy — Jungkook, was it? — to get the note and therefore his number. Jimin'd been eyeing him all night, observing the way he clapped his hands cutely when he laughed and the way his nose and the corners of his eyes crinkled when he smiled and how good he looked in his outfit.

Jimin had seen him around campus a handful of times before, but he'd never properly talked to him, especially since Jungkook was a year younger and didn't share any of his classes. Jimin found it adorable how the brunette would always blush and give him a tiny smile every time they made eye contact while walking past each other.

So he had thought that this would be his chance to be bold and make a move. Jungkook was the one who asked for the check, so Jimin had just assumed that he would be the one to pick up and actually look at it — especially since Jimin had purposely placed the check by his arm.

He hadn't meant for the girl to find it.

In retrospect, it would've been a lot smarter if he had just handed Jungkook the check instead to ensure he was the one who got it, but it was too late now. Now, one of his friends had his number instead.

It wasn't that Jimin minded that a girl had his number — he was bi after all — but it wasn't what he meant to happen, nor did he particularly want the girl to have his number. He wanted Jungkook to have his number. And now this girl was texting him, thinking that he had made a move on her.

Oh lord.

It had been a little weird, albeit flattering, when the table of girls were so clearly trying to flirt with him. He almost cringed at times with how blatant they were being with their actions, but it did give his ego a little boost to have so many pretty girls vying for his attention.

Sadly, he still didn't have the attention of the person he actually wanted it from.

Don't get him wrong, he was flattered that the girls had taken such an interest in him, but really, he just wanted Jungkook to be the one smiling at him or giggling or giving him compliments. Or all three.

So now that this girl — one that clearly was interested in him — had his number, thinking that he reciprocated the feeling, things were going to be complicated.

When she'd first texted, Jimin was confused. Did he give his number to a girl recently that he'd forgotten about? The last time he gave anyone his number was to the pretty boy from the restaurant, who still hadn't texted him and was avoiding him on campus for some reason.

Speaking of which, he couldn't help but think that he did something wrong from the way the boy would always hide his face or walk faster when he saw Jimin. The older was afraid that he was actually straight and was grossed out by a guy hitting on him.

And then the girl mentioned how she got his number and that's when Jimin realized he fucked up.

He had to admit that it was cute how Youngsoon defended her friend, but although Jimin felt mean, he was much more interested in what she was saying about Jungkook than about herself. He felt bad, since she was being nothing but nice, but she wasn't even meant to be texting him in the first place.

He was very happy to learn that Jungkook was in fact gay, meaning he still had a sliver of a chance. He just had to find a way to just talk to the younger and tell him that he hadn't meant to give his number to anyone else but him.

In the meantime, he had to figure out how to gently let Youngsoon know the truth.

Jungkook felt horrible. He felt like a horrible, horrible human being.

Why, you might ask?

For one, he was continuing to avoid Jimin around campus. It would do him no good to talk to Jimin; he knew he would just end up growing his crush to the point of no return. And he couldn't do that to himself, to Jimin, or to Youngsoon.

Speaking of Youngsoon, that was the other part of why he was a terrible person. He couldn't help but feel a little glimmer of hope, a small burst of satisfaction when she said that Jimin didn't hang out with her in real life.

It was absolutely awful. He was being gross and a horrible, jealous friend, and he knew it. He was letting his attraction to the older boy affect how he felt about his friend, when he should just accept that Jimin just wasn't into him and that's that. He was being much too jealous of Youngsoon's ability to make Jimin interested in her, and he wanted it to stop.

All the more reason to try and avoid Jimin, and thus his feelings.

To make up for it, Jungkook tried to spend more time with Youngsoon, choosing to go out to lunch with her or meet up with her to study or give her encouragement every time she texted Jimin.

Youngsoon was a little confused by the extra attention at first, but Jungkook just explained it as him paying her back for being such a good friend and she let it go.

Spending more time with Youngsoon and reminding himself of just how sweet and wonderful she was just made Jungkook hate himself a little bit more for his irrational thoughts.

"This is the third time already," Youngsoon sighed, putting her phone down on the table. Jungkook looked up, raising an eyebrow in question.

"I've asked Jimin if he wanted to hang out three times now," she explained, showing Jungkook the texts. "And every time he's busy. Do you think he's avoiding me?"

Jungkook shook his head, rubbing her back comfortingly. "Hey, don't worry about it," he told her gently. "He is a senior, he might just be busy with studying or his job or something. He seems perfectly enthusiastic in his other texts, and he did give his number to you in the first place. I'm sure he really is just busy. If he's avoiding you, he just wouldn't text back at all."

"True," Youngsoon said, but there was a small frown on her face anyway.

Jungkook grabbed her hand, looking her in the eye. "Listen," he soothed, "anyone would be crazy not to like you. I've known you since we were in diapers, and if I've seen you since you used to shit in a piece of cloth I'd know if you're not worth talking to. But you are worth talking to, and people are lucky to get to know you, okay?"

Youngsoon stared at him for a second before nodding, cracking a smile. "Okay," she echoed, squeezing his hand. "Thank you, Jungkookie. You know I love and appreciate you more than anything."

Jungkook grinned. "Right back at you, chief," he answered, earning a small punch to the shoulder. "So... you wanna go get boba to cheer up or something?"

Youngsoon mirrored his smile. "Let's do it."

The two friends took their time walking to where the boba place was, swinging their locked hands between them and ignoring the teasing calls of people they knew walking by. They made it to the door and Jungkook pulled it open, dramatically sweeping his arm to let Youngsoon in first.

"Here we are, m'lady," he said, Youngsoon smacking his butt as she entered the shop.

Jungkook let the door shut behind them as they made their way to the cashier to make their orders. They had no reason to look at the menu, considering they got the same drinks every time.

As he turned around to find a table to sit at, Jungkook caught the eye of someone very familiar.

He could feel the heat travel up his face as he turned away from Jimin, avoiding his gaze and searching for a table far away. No luck. The only available spot was right next to Jimin. Jungkook cursed under his breath, closing his eyes and steeling himself for what was to come.

Meanwhile, Youngsoon spotted the silver-haired as well, her eyes widening as a smile slipped onto her face.

"Jimin-ssi!" she called, the boy raising his head and giving her a polite smile in return. Youngsoon took Jungkook's hand, dragging him over to the table where Jimin sat with another boy.

"Hey," she greeted, slightly breathless.

"Hi," Jimin responded, eyes flickering over to where Jungkook had his eyes glued to the floor, scuffing the ground with his toe.

Jungkook was not going to look at Jimin if he could help it.

Youngsoon wasn't wrong when she said her conversations with Jimin weren't the most flavorful thing in the world. They just kind of looked at each other for a moment before Youngsoon tugged on Jungkook's sweatshirt.

"So, uh, this is Jungkook-ah," she introduced, slinging an arm around his shoulder. "The one I was telling you about before...?"

Jungkook remained stubbornly focused on his shoes as Jimin stared at him, taking in the way his fluffy brown hair flopped over his eyes. "Hello," he said gently. "It's nice to formally meet you."

Jungkook nodded slightly. "You too," he mumbled, playing with his fingers in his pocket. Youngsoon rolled her eyes good-naturedly, pinching his cheek.

"Come on, Kook," she prodded, "at least look at him, silly." Jungkook reluctantly peeked up through his bangs to meet Jimin's strong gaze, immediately blushing all the way up to his ears. He couldn't deal with this. He couldn't deal with how unfairly pretty Jimin was.

"Oh! And this is Namjoon," Jimin introduced, the man in question giving the pair a dimpled smile and a small wave.

When Jungkook's and Youngsoon's orders were called out, he practically jumped at the chance to leave. "I'll just go pick that up," he said, not even waiting for a response before he scurried away towards the counter.

Well, more like he scurried away from the table and then took as long as he possibly could to walk the rest of the way towards the counter.

He was going to savor every moment of this break he got.

Jungkook took a deep breath, closing his eyes briefly as he tried to calm down. Apparently, swerving Jimin on campus only got him so far. This would not be good. He could practically hear Youngsoon telling him to be friends with Jimin.

Under another circumstance, yes, Jungkook would take any opportunity he could get to be friends — and with any luck, more than that — with Jimin. But not here, not now. Not when one of his closest friends also wanted Jimin's attention — and she was the one who got it. Not when he knew that being friends with Jimin would just make him fall harder.

Eventually, even though he was shuffling at a snail's pace, Jungkook made it to the counter where the drinks were waiting. He picked them up, taking two straws from the container, and called out a friendly, "Thank you!" to the barista. He then made his long trek back to the table, boba held carefully with the straws as he eyed Jimin from a distance.

That plan backfired, however, when the older boy looked over and met his gaze, causing Jungkook to trip over a chair in surprise. Who on earth hadn't bothered to push that damn chair in? Jungkook could feel his whole face heating up as he fumbled for the drinks, wincing at the pain of the chair jabbing into his thigh.

He really wanted to disappear.

Even worse, his little clumsy mistake made him drop one of the drinks onto the ground, the plastic container bursting and spilling the drink everywhere, boba rolling every which way as Jungkook hid his face in shame.

He really, really wanted to disappear.

Practically the whole shop turned to see what the ruckus was, including Jimin, Youngsoon, and Namjoon. Jungkook stared at the mess, frozen and not sure what to do, sugary liquid soaking his shoes and the bottom of his pants.

He was shaken out of it when an employee ran up holding a few rolls of paper towels. Jungkook thanked him awkwardly and the two of them began to clean up the spilled drink together.

In the meantime, the three that had been waiting for Jungkook before had made their way to the site of clumsiness as well. Jungkook refused to face them, embarrassed about his public display of misfortune, instead just squatting down and wiping up the liquid with determination.

"Do you want me to help?" Jimin offered, feeling bad for the younger, whose cheeks were very pink. He just shook his head firmly, the employee handing him more paper towels, which he accepted with a small smile.

So the three of them just stood awkwardly watching as Jungkook and the other boy finished cleaning together, throwing away a thick wad of soaked paper towels.

"I'm sorry," Jungkook sighed, rubbing his forehead as he faced the employee that had helped him. "I- can I order another one? I'm so sorry if I distracted you from working..."

"Don't worry about it," he reassured him. "It's part of my job to help clean up. Plus, I couldn't leave you to struggle like that on your own. And I'll get you another boba, on the house. What kind was it?"

Jungkook's eyes widened. "Oh, no, I can't accept that," he said, following the employee as he walked behind the counter. "It was my fault for spilling it, seriously, there's no reason I shouldn't pay."

The employee waved him off. "Seriously, it's not a big deal," he told Jungkook. "What kind?"

Jungkook paused, debating whether or not to argue some more. "Jasmine milk tea...?" he responded finally, the boy nodding and getting to work putting it together.

When he was done, he handed the drink to Jungkook. "Thank you so much," Jungkook said, eyes flicking down to the nametag, "Minjae-ssi."

Minjae grinned at him. "No problem," he answered, receiving a wide smile in return before Jungkook turned to go back to his table.

Jimin had been watching the whole exchange, eyebrows slightly furrowed as a small frown tugged at his lips. Why did Jungkook let that employee help but not him? Why did that employee get to earn one of Jungkook's pretty smiles when the younger wouldn't even look Jimin in the eye? What did he have that Jimin was missing?

Jungkook shuffled back over, being careful not to spill this time. He sighed as he plopped down in the chair across from Youngsoon, unconsciously tugging his hoodie closer around him. "Sorry," he mumbled, still a little embarrassed at his mishap.

"It's okay," Jimin said kindly, hoping for a reaction. Jungkook shot him a small but grateful smile before poking his straw into the container and beginning to drink.

He merely listened to the conversation around him, silently sipping his boba and staring at the top as he avoided being the center of attention after he already had enough of that.

"So Jungkookie," Youngsoon said suddenly, making Jungkook pause, his cheeks full of boba and his eyes wide in surprise at being called on. "I was telling Jimin-ssi about how you guys should be friends. You have a lot of things in common, actually."

Jungkook shifted his eyes to look at Jimin, his cheeks still full before he swallowed loudly. Jimin tilted his head to the side, the corner of his lips tugging upwards. "What do you say, Jungkook-ssi?" he prompted, an amused look on his face as he observed how round Jungkook's eyes got at the prospect.

"I— I don't—" Jungkook stuttered, for some reason unable to look away from the older, who continued to just grin at him. Youngsoon poked his side.

"Come on Kook," she encouraged, "it'll be nice to have more friends. Especially another guy. I'm sure you two will get along really well." Jungkook finally let his gaze drop, his stomach sinking with it. That's what he was afraid of— them getting along too well.

So instead he stayed silent, going back to drinking his boba as the other three watched him. He felt like he was burning under their stares, especially Jimin's. What was he supposed to say? He couldn't say no, because it would just seem rude. But if he said yes, who knew what would happen?

"Hey," Jimin said softly, breaking the silence. Jungkook glanced over, trying not to get lost in his eyes. "If it makes you feel any better, I'd really like to be your friend. Seriously." Jungkook blushed again, brushing his hair away from his face nervously as he thought over the repercussions.

He really, really didn't want to do something he regretted in getting closer to the guy Youngsoon was interested in. He didn't want to mess up... whatever it was they had going on, and he didn't want to hurt himself.

But he also really, really wanted to get closer to the guy he had a massive crush on.

So he eventually gave a small nod, Jimin breaking out into a bright smile at the acceptance. He, too, wanted to get closer to the younger— like he meant to do at the restaurant a few weeks ago.

"Cool," he grinned, a little breathlessly. "So, um, you want to exchange numbers?" Jungkook bit his lip before nodding again, taking Jimin's phone as it was handed to him and entering in his contact information.

Jimin smiled down at the number under Jeon Jungkook now inputted into his contacts.

Now he just had to figure out how to tell Youngsoon the truth.

Youngsoon, meanwhile, was witnessing the exchange in mild curiosity. She was almost positive that Jungkook had a thing for the older boy, as much as he tried to hide it. As Jungkook had so succinctly put it earlier, they had known each other since they used to shit in a piece of cloth, and she was pretty confident in her ability to tell when Jungkook had a crush.

The avoiding of eye contact, the multitude of blushes, the frequent stares when he thought Jimin wasn't looking— they were all pretty clear signs of interest to her.

What was she going to do with this information? She wasn't sure. She had no idea if Jimin was interested too or if he just found the younger boy endearing in how shy he could be. And what if he did reciprocate Jungkook's feelings? Then what?

He... had meant the number for her... right?

She hadn't known Jimin for that long, not long enough to develop substantial feelings. Sure, she definitely thought Jimin was beyond attractive, but their personalities just didn't seem to... fit as well as they could.

So... what was she supposed to do?

Jungkook flopped backwards onto his bed, cheeks flushed from his first successful conversation with Jimin (even if it was just over text). He may have tripped up a few times but all in all, not horrible.

Every time Jimin called him cute or seemed excited to talk to him, Jungkook could feel his heart racing at the sudden attention, quite a contrast from their previous interactions.

It was weird though, what Jimin had said about being busy. Jungkook wasn't going to lie, he was taken aback when Jimin said he would make time to hang out with him. Was this the same guy who had told Youngsoon three times now that he was too busy to hang out with her?

Plus, he had asked Jungkook to call him hyung almost right away, whereas he still used slightly more formal honorifics with Youngsoon. Did that mean anything too deep? He wasn't sure.

Jungkook didn't want to get his hopes up or read too much into it. For all he knew, Jimin was just extremely friendly and eager to be friends with the underclassman and make him feel more comfortable. For all he knew, Jimin was straight or at least bi or pan or poly or into girls and very much into Youngsoon, not him.

But then again, why had he made that comment about making time for Jungkook? Why would he text Jungkook mere hours after getting his number? And why did he seem so eager to hang out?

The irrational, delusional side of Jungkook's mind that was crushing hard on Jimin was telling him that Jimin was interested in him too, and the reason why he wanted to spend time with Jungkook was because he felt some sort of attraction. That maybe Jimin had meant to give his number to Jungkook the first time. That the reason Jimin was too busy for Youngsoon was because he didn't have any feelings for her, whereas he wanted to be around Jungkook.

The rational side of his brain was losing the fight, but the tiny voice in the corner of his brain refused to stay quiet. You're being dumb, Jungkook. You're too smitten to realize the truth, that Jimin just thinks of you as that cute shy junior who needs more friends. He purposely placed the check by Youngsoon's right hand so she would grab it. It was meant for her, not you. He's definitely into girls, and he's definitely into Youngsoon.

He didn't know what to do about this internal battle, so instead he decided to push it away and not think about it for now. As far as he knew, he would be listening to the rational voice. He didn't want to give himself any false hope.

Jimin grinned at his phone before turning it off and placing it on his desk. Jungkook really was too cute. Their first conversation over text had gone well, even though Jimin could tell Jungkook was nervous almost the entire time. It was endearing.

As much as he felt bad thinking about it, just that one short conversation with Jungkook was so much more intriguing that any of his conversations thus far with Youngsoon, and he found himself staring at the little typing bubble every time Jungkook was about to reply. Youngsoon was nice, yes, and she seemed sweet enough, but their personalities just didn't mesh as well.

Sure, Jungkook and Jimin seemed to have rather different personalities; Jungkook being the shy, sweet younger boy while Jimin was more confident and loud with his actions. But in that case, it just seemed to... work. Somehow, it just worked.

In the days that followed, Jimin would always reply within seconds to Jungkook whenever he could, often asking small questions or about how the younger's day was going just to get the conversation going. Maybe he was being obvious, but he didn't really care. Something about Jungkook was just so intriguing.

He still replied to Youngsoon, having normal conversations with her, but they seemed so stifled and awkward in comparison.

He really, really needed to tell her the truth sooner rather than later.

"Who you texting, Kook?" Jiyoon asked, watching as he smiled at something on his phone. He glanced up, typing something quickly before putting it away.

"Hm?" he blinked at her. "Ah, no one really..." He trailed off with a small smile. She exchanged glances with Eunae.

"Dude, you are not convincing at all," Eunae informed him. "Do you have a boyfriend you're not telling us about? Or..."

Jungkook flushed and shook his head. "What? No! I don't have a boyfriend. I mean I wish I did, but sadly, still single."

Seoyoon raised an eyebrow at him. "Why are you always smiling at your phone, then?" she questioned, trying to reach into his pocket.

He pushed her hand away. "No prying," he warned, pursing his lips at her. "And I'm smiling because it's a nice conversation with a nice person."

"Who, though?" Haewon prodded as Jungkook felt a buzz in his pocket and pulled his phone out to see what it was, smiling again at what was written there.

"There you go again!" Soomin exclaimed. "If you keep smiling at your phone like that we're going to think you have a boyfriend unless you prove otherwise. So who is it?"

Jungkook narrowed his eyes at her before crossing his arms over his chest. "It's Jimin-hyung," he said finally.

The girls' jaws fell open.

"Jimin?"

"Hyung?"

"How'd you get his number?"

"How come you guys are texting?"

"Why do you always smile when you guys text, then?"

"Didn't he give his number to Soonie?"

Jungkook shook his head to himself. "This is why I never say anything," he huffed. "He's just my friend. He told me to call him hyung, and Soonie's the one who encouraged us to be friends. Nothing is going on between us other than friendship." Although I wish it was more.

Eunae pursed her lips in doubt. "Okay," she said, drawing out the vowels in obvious suspicion.

Haewon clapped him on the shoulder. "Well, good for you," she grinned. "At least you have a male friend for once. Maybe now the teasing will slow down."

"Somehow I doubt that," Jungkook grimaced. "It'll take more than another friend to get those dumbasses to stop."

Youngsoon walked up to the group, slinging her bag onto the ground. "Sorry I'm late, guys," she apologized. "What were you talking about?"

"Jungkook was texting with Jimin-ssi," Jiyoon told her. Youngsoon grinned at Jungkook.

"So, you guys getting along, huh?" she asked. "I'm glad. Do you like talking to him?"

Jungkook flushed slightly. Boy, did he. "Yep," he responded. "He's super fun to talk to."

Youngsoon nodded her head approvingly. "I'm glad."

So she was right. Jungkook did seem to be getting along better with Jimin than she was. The little smile Jungkook always seemed to have when texting or talking about Jimin was adorable, and it was obvious he was smitten. Definitely much more than Youngsoon was.

Did Jimin like Jungkook though? That was the important question. She didn't want to give Jungkook false hope if Jimin wasn't even into him in the first place.

But if he was... The obvious thing to do was for Youngsoon to tell Jimin to go for it. She knew there was no way that Jungkook would try to make the first move.

Saturday rolled around, and Jungkook was much more nervous then he should've been. He and Jimin had agreed upon a time to meet and which ice cream shop they were going to, and he was ten minutes too early.

Jungkook waited awkwardly outside, pulling out his phone to play some quick games while he waited in order to distract himself.

He was onto his thirteenth child and four years into his life of crime after he whacked his ex with a dildo and bit his ankles on Bitlife when he felt someone peering over his shoulder.

Jungkook flushed and put his phone away quickly, hoping Jimin didn't notice that Bitlife-Jungkook's current husband's name was Park Jimin (Jungkook had to go six years until he found a Jimin that wasn't underage and wouldn't keep dumping him).

"Hey, Jungkook," Jimin grinned, casually brushing back his silver locks with one ring-covered hand. He looked good, as always, in a collared shirt tucked into jeans. Jungkook licked his lips and tentatively returned the smile.

"Hi Jimin-hyung," he responded, tugging at the sleeves of his oversized hoodie. "You wanna go in?"

Jimin pulled the door open, letting Jungkook enter first before he followed closely behind. They ordered quickly, being familiar with the shop and its flavors, before sitting down at a small table across from each other and eating their ice cream.

"So, what's your major?" Jimin asked casually. "I just realized I somehow haven't asked you that yet. Even though it's like, one of the most basic questions for a college student."

Jungkook laughed quietly. "Well, I've always really liked art-based stuff, especially since I'm... pretty much horrible at normal academics," he explained. "Embarrassing, I know. Painting, sketching, any kind of traditional art, really, photography... That kind of visual thing is way more appealing to me than things like engineering or biochem or something. In the years leading up to high school graduation I started playing around with taking videos and editing them, so... Here I am. Film major in the making. I kind of suck at the technicalities part rather than the actual doing, but it's much more fun than it usually would be since it's related to something I enjoy. Even if I'll probably never get to do anything substantial with what I'm learning."

Jimin nodded thoughtfully, leaning forwards in his seat as he ate his ice cream. "That's cool," he told him. "I'm glad you're doing something that you enjoy, then. And I'm sure you'll do well in the future, you shouldn't resign yourself just yet."

"I guess," Jungkook shrugged. "I just don't want to get my hopes up too much. How about you? What's your major?"

"I major in applied mathematics, actually," Jimin chuckled. "The opposite of what you enjoy, huh? It's kind of funny that the one thing you really don't like is what I study. But I mean, I always enjoyed math throughout high school and middle school. I also really like art like you, and dancing. So I minor in dance. I like it a lot."

Jungkook grinned. "That's cool," he answered. "I mean as you can tell, I myself could never do anything with math, but it's cool that you're really good at it. And dance sounds amazing."

"It is," Jimin agreed, before taking a bite out of his ice cream. Jungkook gaped at him.

"Why?" he asked incredulously. "Why would you bite it?" He shuddered to himself. "It makes my front teeth cold just thinking about it."

Jimin grinned, taking another exaggerated bite just to spite the younger. "What? What was that?"

"Hyuuung," Jungkook groaned, trying to shield his eyes. "I can literally feel my bones freezing over. Why would you do that?" Jimin's grin widened as he took another bite, scrunching his nose playfully.

"I have no idea what you're referring to," Jimin said innocently, pursing his lips and raising his eyebrows at the younger. Jungkook just shook his head slowly.

"Terrible. Absolutely terrible. I don't get how anyone could bite their ice cream."

"What do you mean, like this?"

"Hyung! Stop that!"

They sat there for a while, just laughing and talking about random things that popped into their heads.

Jungkook loved the ease with which the conversation flowed between them, never feeling the need to scramble for something to fill the silences. It was nice. It was comfortable. He wanted to do it again. And again, and then maybe a few more times after that. Or several. Maybe an actual date.

But Jungkook was getting ahead of himself there.

Ice cream long since finished, the two boys sat there and talked until the sun began to set. Jungkook felt bad for taking up the ice cream shop's space, but he couldn't bring himself to be too concerned when he was having such a good time with Jimin.

The two of them exited the shop together, Jungkook itching to reach out and hold Jimin's hand — but of course he didn't. He couldn't. They weren't even close to that point in their... "relationship" yet. Because they weren't in a relationship.

And that's when reality came crashing back down.

Jimin wasn't his boyfriend. As far as Jungkook knew, Jimin wasn't even a little bit interested in him. They were just friends. And Youngsoon! God, Jungkook had almost forgotten about the whole complicated thing with her. For a few hours, he lost himself in his conversations with Jimin, but he remembered what was really going on.

Jungkook wanted more than anything for Jimin to maybe, sort of, kind of, really want to be his boyfriend too. But that was just wishful thinking.

"And that's when the pickle—" Jimin paused, taking in the sudden drop in excitement from the younger, who was playing with the strings of his hoodie as they walked side by side. "Jungkook-ah?"

Jungkook looked up, his eyes wide, before dropping his hands to fiddle with his sleeves instead. "Yes, hyung?" he asked. "I was listening, don't worry, you were talking about your brother's haunted pickle-dog."

Jimin frowned slightly as Jungkook brushed his hair back, avoiding Jimin's gaze. "Jungkook," he repeated, "what's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong," Jungkook said, shrugging. "Why? I swear I was paying attention..."

The pair had made their way to the top of a grassy hill overlooking the sunset, Jimin tugging on Jungkook's sleeve to have him sit down beside him.

"You seem down," Jimin told him, leaning back until he was lying down on the grass, staring out into the sky. "I can tell you're worried about something. What is it? You can tell me, you know."

Jungkook just sighed, lying down as well so his hair fanned out around his head, eyes fluttering closed. "Don't worry, hyung," he murmured. "I'll get over it."

Jimin's frown deepened as he propped himself up on one elbow to look at the younger lying peacefully on the grass. "Come on, Kook, you can tell me, I'm a good listener."

Jungkook flushed slightly at the nickname as he cracked an eye open to see the older staring down at him.

"I believe you," he responded, getting onto one elbow as well. "I just don't think you can help much with the situation I'm in."

Jungkook couldn't help but stare at how beautiful Jimin looked in the setting sunlight, deep orange hues illuminating his face perfectly. It wasn't called golden hour for nothing — Jimin looked positively ethereal.

Jimin stared back, the younger's round eyes reflecting the rays of sun in a way that made it look like Jungkook himself was shining. "I can try," he whispered sincerely.

Jungkook only then realized how close they were, their faces mere centimeters apart; close enough that he could feel Jimin's warm breath against his lips. The sunset just made everything feel more... romantic. Jungkook could almost feel the tension thickening between them as they stared at each other, Jungkook holding his breath.

Jimin licked his lips and Jungkook's eyes darted towards the movement, admiring how plump and pretty his lips were. He vaguely wondered what they would feel like against his own.

His gaze traveled up to meet Jimin's again before they dropped back down to his lips.

So smooth... so pink... so plump and soft and pretty...

It was like Jungkook couldn't even bring himself to look away. He almost didn't care if he was being obvious as he thought, I wonder if they're every bit as soft and warm as they look.

Without thinking, Jungkook leaned in the last few centimeters and pressed his lips to Jimin's.

They were, in fact, every bit as soft and warm as they looked.

And that's when Jungkook realized what he just did, heat shooting up his body as he flushed deeply, leaping up as he tried to cover his face. Oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god, Jungkook what have you done

"I- I have to go," he squeaked, face a deep red as he felt his heart pounding in his ribcage, the sound and feeling filling his ears as he held his face in his hands and fled.

Jimin stared after him, vaguely reaching up to touch his lips like some cliche drama star.

Wow. That was... wow.

What on earth just happened??

Jungkook ran all the way back to his apartment, not even caring how far away it was. He unlocked the door and sprinted into his room, throwing himself onto his bed and ignoring his roommate's confused questions.

He pulled the covers tight over himself, grabbing a pillow before finally taking a deep breath. Oh no. He had fucked up big-time.

How was he supposed to recover from this? He had just done one of the worst things he could possibly do at the moment. Not only did he kiss Jimin without having any idea if the older liked him or was even into guys in the first place, but he also kissed Jimin without asking if he was okay with it first. Who does that?

Jungkook felt like he had violated Jimin. He should've asked. No, he should've just stayed away. Why, why, why? He felt horrible. Truly horrible.

Jungkook burrowed a little deeper under the covers, his face burning in shame. He could feel his heart racing as panic overtook him at the thought of Jimin hating him for what he had done. Great. He just had to ruin what had been going so well and if Jimin never even so much as glanced at him again, there would be no one to blame but Jungkook.

He groaned into his pillow before squeezing his eyes tight and trying to shut everything out. There was nothing to do now but avoid Jimin and hope he would never be confronted.

If Jimin ever confronted him, he was sure he would cry out of embarrassment.

Jimin didn't know how to feel. He knew he wasn't mad, or grossed out, or upset, but more a range of confusing and confused emotions that he wasn't able to pinpoint.

So Jungkook did like him back. Or at least, he guessed it was safe to assume that fact. Back in his apartment, he touched his lips again, the ghost of Jungkook's seeming to linger.

Even if it was unexpected, it was... nice. He felt reassured that Jungkook returned his feelings, and he knew he had to do something about it quickly. He had to find the younger and confess, and then maybe take him out on a nice date where they could kiss for real.

But in the days that followed, Jimin found it impossible to talk to Jungkook. Every time he so much as spotted the younger across the courtyard, Jungkook would abruptly turn around and speed-walk away. If Jimin somehow got close enough, Jungkook would just flat-out run.

He tried texting the younger, too, but even that didn't work.

jimin

jungkook

jungkookie

jungkook-ah

kook pls answer me i know youre probably reading these

pls jungkook im not mad at you

i just want to talk

please?

jungkook

jungkooook

... :(

Jungkook shut off his phone. He didn't want to reply to the older. He knew that whenever anyone said "I'm not mad at you," they were usually actually mad. And he would rather just avoid Jimin for the rest of eternity than face him and have to relive what he did.

This would do him no good. Jungkook knew he should apologize for his mistake, but the event was too fresh for him to even think about it without having his breathing quicken and his heart beat faster. He would apologize soon, but not now.

For now, he would just evade Jimin on campus and hope he wouldn't get unlucky and end up cornered by the older.

Jungkook was staring off into space as his friends chatted around him, eyes unfocused with his hood pulled over his head.

He was in the middle of regretting his actions for the fifteen hundredth time when a hand pulled at his hoodie strings and the hood closed around his head. He looked over to see Youngsoon seating herself beside him, a small smile on her face as Jungkook loosened his hood again.

"What's with the long face?" she asked, ruffling his hair good-naturedly. "You've been looking so down and unfocused lately."

Jungkook just shook his head, swinging his legs beneath him. "Ah, don't worry about it," he murmured. How was he supposed to explain that he kissed the boy she'd been going after?

Youngsoon furrowed her eyebrows, a frown creeping onto her face. "You can't just say that and expect me not to worry," she protested. "I know something's up. What is it? Maybe I can help. I'm a good listener."

That's what he said right before... Jungkook thought solemnly, as he continued to swing his legs beneath him. Confrontation was a scary thing.

"Is it Jimin-ssi?" Youngsoon asked suddenly, making Jungkook look up and inadvertently telling her she hit the nail on the head.

"How'd you know..." he mumbled, embarrassed. Youngsoon just shook her head at him.

"It's not that hard to tell," she explained. "You were all smiley and happy because of him, but now you're not. Did something happen? Did he hurt you? If he hurt you I will not hesitate to go off on him."

"No," Jungkook said quickly. "He didn't do anything wrong. It's my fault. I'm just avoiding him because I did something dumb and I don't wanna face him."

Youngsoon gazed at him for a moment, pursing her lips as she thought. Did this have anything to do with Jungkook's crush?

But she could tell he didn't want to talk about it any longer, so instead she pulled him into a warm hug. "If you don't want to talk about it that's okay," she soothed. "But if you ever do, I'm always here." Jungkook nodded into her shoulder before she pulled away.

"What do you say we go back to my apartment and we play some games together?" she suggested. "It's been a while, and I'm sure it'll help you get your mind off things."

Jungkook smiled at her and nodded before the two of them bid goodbye to their other friends and began walking to Youngsoon's place.

They were in between matches when Youngsoon felt her phone buzz, pulling it out to check who it was from. "Hurry up Soonie," Jungkook called. "The next match is starting soon."

"Just a sec," she told him, opening up her messages to read them.

jimin

"Youngsoon!" Jungkook said again, causing her to look up from her phone. "Hello, you've been typing for like five minutes now."

"Sorry," she apologized, putting her phone away. "I was talking to someone important."

Jungkook gave a small frown. "Was it Jimin-hyung? You guys probably get along really well..."

"It's not important," Youngsoon said. "Are you free on Sunday at six?"

"In the morning?"

"No, dummy, the evening. Are you available?"

"I think so... Why?"

"Just go to that hill overlooking the river at six on Sunday. And you'll see why."

Jungkook raised an eyebrow at her. "You're being very cryptic. And that place gives me PTSD."

"Wait what? Why?"

"Never mind. I guess I'll go if you really want me to."

She grinned. "I do," she told him. Jungkook smiled back.

"So, we gonna get back to this game, or...?"

Jimin was nervous for Sunday. What would happen? Would Jungkook even want to see him? What if the younger just ran away? He had no idea what he would do if Jungkook ran away.

He just wanted to fix things and hopefully, confess. And then ask Jungkook out on a date. Hopefully.

So when the day rolled around, he tried not to seem like he was trying too hard with what he was wearing, arriving at the designated spot earlier than he had to. It was the same place that the... incident happened just two weeks ago.

He sat himself on the grass, staring down at the river as he waited for six o'clock to arrive. The water looked pretty, shining with the sunlight hitting it at just the right angle. The sun was going to set soon, just like last time, and Jimin could feel his heart rate increasing in anticipation.

He heard a soft gasp and Jimin turned around to see Jungkook standing there, his eyes wide, looking like he was about to bolt. Jimin got up quickly, grabbing the younger's arm before he could run away.

Jungkook flushed as he was led by Jimin to sit down on the hill together, gazing out at the sun beginning to set. The younger fought every urge he had to just flee, terrified yet still cautiously wanting to know what the older would say.

They sat in silence for a few moments, Jungkook picking at the grass nervously, before Jimin turned to him. "So," he began, leaning back onto his elbows and casting a quick glance at the younger. "About two weeks ago—"

"I'm sorry," Jungkook interrupted, pulling his knees up to his chest. "I- What I did was all wrong, and I know it was. And I'm really really sorry and I don't even know if you're into boys and I'm really sorry because I shouldn't have done that at all and I completely get it if you are grossed out and don't want to see me again I know I fucked up but I just like you so much I wasn't thinking I'm so sorry—"

"Jungkook." It was Jimin's turn to interrupt. He sat up again, gently turning himself and Jungkook so they were facing each other directly. "Please calm down. Yes, I admit, it was little unexpected and awkward, but it's okay. I'm not grossed out and I don't want to stop seeing you."

He took Jungkook's hands gently in his own, the soft smile on his face genuine. "I like you too, Jungkook," he murmured. "I like you a lot. That night at the restaurant, I meant to give my number to you. Youngsoon-ssi knows, by the way. But I meant to give it to you. Because I thought — and still think — you're really, really pretty. And if there's something else I've learned since I started talking to you, it's that you're also sweet, and funny, and kind and silly and talented and passionate and just so wonderful in so many ways. And I'd love to get even closer to you. And take you on a date. Please, will you go on a date with me?"

Jungkook's breath caught in his throat as he stared at Jimin with wide eyes. He was expecting Jimin to yell at him, or shove him away, or insult him. Anything but this.

"I—" He just stared at Jimin, his mind reeling at the thought of Jimin liking him back. "Yes. Yes! Yes, I'd love to go on a date with you." He was breathless then, his cheeks tinted pink.

Jimin's smile grew. "Okay," he said happily, gently letting go of Jungkook's hands. "Okay. I'm glad."

The two of them just grinned at each other for a moment, both giddy with the prospect of a date. The moment was bathed in a soft golden light, just like before, except this time it was a much lighter atmosphere, the two boys lost in each other's gaze.

"Do you want to do it again?" Jimin whispered, not taking his eyes off the younger. Jungkook blinked at him.

"Again...?" He trailed off, realizing what the older was saying and ducking his head shyly. "I- okay..."

Jimin smiled gently, scooting forwards until his hand was right next to the younger's, other hand coming up to cup his cheek. The whole scene felt so romantic with the sunset in the background as they sat on a grassy hill overlooking a river.

He slowly leaned in, Jungkook's eyes slipping shut as he drew nearer. Finally Jimin pressed his lips against the younger's, immediately melting into the feeling of Jungkook's soft lips beneath his.

Jimin inched closer, his hand reaching up from the grass to hold the younger's neck as he began to move his lips. The position was a bit more awkward than he would've liked, but it wasn't too bad, especially since he was distracted by the kiss itself.

He couldn't help but push forwards more to deepen the kiss, Jungkook leaning back until he was lying down on the grass, Jimin following his movements.

After a while Jimin pulled away, watching as Jungkook's eyes slowly fluttered open again. He looked so pretty with his hair fanned out, framing his face nicely. He had a dazed expression as Jimin tugged him upright again, causing him to tumble into the older's arms.

"Even if it got messed up at the beginning, I'm glad I put my number on that receipt," Jimin murmured, feeling Jungkook smile against his neck.

"Me too," he agreed, pulling back to gaze at the older, mesmerized. "I still can't believe... you like me..."

Jimin giggled, booping his nose. "Well, you better believe it, cutie."

"Youngsoon is the best person ever to be in this situation with us," Jungkook said, shaking his head slightly. "If it was anyone else... Who knows what would've happened. Thank god she's so understanding."

Jimin nodded. "I agree. We got lucky, huh?"

Jungkook scrunched his nose. "No, you got lucky," he teased. "I don't know why you didn't just hand me the check."

Jimin chuckled. "I asked myself that every day."
