Work Text:

They're all dumb, each and every one of them.

Yes, they might be right in some way, but they’re still dumb. He knows that he’s aggressive, and mean. He knows that he’s hard to love, or even be around. He fucking knows, but that didn’t rule out him falling in love, even if it ruled out somebody loving him.

Bakugou thinking back to the words he heard said about him, knowing that if the voices that dared talk about him in such a horrendous way knew he overheard, they’d all be running for the hills.

Bakugou would never love anyone, he's said it himself; Yeah, but I feel bad for the person Bakugou falls in love with, I mean what a fucking let down; I feel bad for anyone in love with Bakugou; Definitely, he's just too .... aggressive; Why even consider it, no one will fall in love with Bakugou Katsuki!

He tried to stop thinking about their words, he didn’t want something so trivial affecting him.

He stomped to his room and slammed the door. Might as well prove a fucking point , he thought. He sat at the desk in his room and pulled out a piece of light, violet paper.

He's always adored the color. It's nice and soft.

He began writing.

Today I heard people talking about me. They said hurtful things, I can admit that much. They went on and on about how I wasn't capable of loving someone, or how someone wasn't capable of loving me, and they felt bad for the person who did. But trust me, they’re wrong. About the first part at least, because I love you. You and your beautiful, red eyes, and your big smile. Not that you love me; not that I need you to love me.

- Anonymous

He checked the time, it was eleven fifty-seven at night. Well, might as well give the dope the note, fuck if I’m going to let my time go to waste, Bakugou decided.

He quietly exited his room and taped the note onto the door of the person he loves — he taped the note onto Kirishima Eijiro’s door.

The next morning he saw people crowding around Kirishima's desk. They were saying all kinds of things, but they were so jumbled together that he couldn't make out any of the comments, and to add to his confusion, Kirishima was flushed. Bakugou clenched his jaw, stomping over to Kirishima’s desk.

"Give him some room dick faces!" Bakugou exclaimed, watching as they all moved.

Then, once they cleared out, Bakugou saw it. Kirishima was fumbling with a piece of violet paper in his hands, and he didn’t have to be a genius to know that was the note he wrote.

Bakugou didn't stick around long enough to hear Kirishima thank him.

-

After class, they were back at surrounding Kirishima, only this time it was in the common area. Bakugou could hear people say things like, I wonder who it was, or, it’s just too adorable!

He rolled his eyes and took a seat right next to Kirishima, pushing Kaminari out of the way in the process of doing so. Bakugou relaxed on the couch, throwing an arm around a stiff Kirishima.

"You know,” Kaminari started, standing up, “Bakugou might know who it is!"

Bakugou’s eyes narrowed, you’ll pay for that, you little shit.

Everyone turned to Bakugou, waiting for him to enlighten them. Bakugou was flustered, his face even showing a small pink tint.

"Oh, fuck off,” Bakugou rolled his eyes as he stood from the couch, “I’m going to study, you fuckfaces."

He did not study. Instead, he thought about Kirishima. He thought about Kirishima and how different he was today. He was flustered, flushed, weirdly quiet, and he looked awfully upset. He looked like a sad puppy, a cute sad puppy. A cute, sad, fluffy puppy.

The conclusion Bakugou came to was that Kirishima is a cute puppy who deserves the world, and something’s wrong with him.

Of course, he didn’t even consider that maybe the note he left for him was a factor in any of this.

Either way, Bakugou already had a solution, and it was foul proof; walk into his room without warning, and demand answers.

He walked out of his room, and to Kirishima’s door, putting his hand on the doorknob, only to quickly take it away. This went on for a minute or so. He’d put his hand on, hesitate for a second, and then remove his hand.  Why is it so hard to just walk in? They are friends, friends check up on each other.

Friends don’t fall in love with each other.

Shutting out his thoughts, he finally opened the door. When he walked in, he heard a drawer being quickly opened and then shut, along with a faint "shit.”

"Bakugou! What's up m-man?"

Stuttering?

“What the fuck is wrong," Bakugou asked, not allowing any form of small talk.

Kirishima didn't even deny it, either. He just went on, and on, and on .

"Okay, it’s the note I got. I just feel so bad!” Kirishima admitted, causing Bakugou to furrow his eyebrows in confusion, “But so happy at the same time? Like, there’s an amazing person out there who likes me, and compliments me, and just sounds so, so sweet. It’s great, it really is. but," Kirishima hesitated.

But?

"But I’m already in love with someone," Kirishima smiled nervously, scratching the side of his head.

Bakugou's whole body felt like it stopped. His brain, his arms, his legs, his heart. He could feel a horrible headache forming, and his vision got slightly blurry as if he was shutting everything out. He could hear Kirishima continue, but he just couldn't make out what he was saying anymore. It hurt — everything hurt .

He knew Kirishima didn't love him, so why does it hurt so fucking much?

Who would have thought that the loud and explosive teen, could be so quiet and motionless? So extremely quiet and motionless, and all it took was seven fucking words.

“But I’m already in love with someone.”

"Bakugou? You in there man?" Kirishima asked, tilting his head and waving his hand in front of Bakugou’s face.

It was Kirishima, the Kirishima he accidentally fell in love with, only to be told he loves someone else. Bakugou should have forced himself out of the trance he had entered, but he couldn't. Instead, he kept his eyes focused downwards, looking at his shaking hands. Then, a tear rolled down his cheek. As he felt it, his mind yelled abort, abort, and so Bakugou did; he got up, and he ran.

He ran until he reached the exit of the school, ignoring calls from Kirishima, and he ran past the gates of the school, trying to forget Kirishima’s words. He kept running and running until his legs burned; just like everything else.

He soon arrived at his home, face wet with tears. He opened the door quietly to find his parents sitting in a dark room cuddled on the couch.

"What are you doing home brat?" His mother stood, yelling at him out of habit. She moved closer to get a clear look at his face, curious as to why he wasn't screaming back. Once she saw the state he was in, she looked at her husband, and he ran over.

Neither of them knew what was wrong, but they decided to leave it for later and embraced their son in a hug. He hugged back.

Heeded up having to wake up earlier than usual to get ready for school.

Hopefully, Kirishima didn't open his mouth to his dumb friends.

Though when Bakugou walked into the classroom, one thing was clear: he did. Kirishima told everyone.

The class was even staring at Bakugou as if he was going to shatter at any moment. Which, sure, he fucking might, but that doesn’t give them the freedom to look at him knowingly.

He made his way to his seat and sat quietly, and he could feel the whole class watching him. It only took a few sounds for him to clench his fists and yell out, stop fucking staring at me or it’ll cost you your lives!

He could hear them all whip their heads away and nervously engage in conversation. He looked back, just to make sure they did, and staring at him was Kirishima. Some nerve.

Are you okay? What’s going on? Kirishima’s eyes asked.

Bakugou looked back, staring intently for what felt like hours.

You! You're what’s going on! I'm in love with you and you have no feelings for me whatsoever because you're already in love with someone! You unknowingly broke my fucking heart and I can’t handle it! You were the first fucking person I let into my life and I went ahead and messed it up, because of my stupid fucking feelings. I'm sorry, so fucking sorry. So, so fucking sorry.

He turned around, trying to focus on their sleepy teacher giving out instructions. Not paying any mind to the feeling of Kirishima’s eyes on him.

Fuck.

After classes, Bakugou decided to go for a walk. It was nice out, and it was a way to get away from his nosey ass class.

He let his face fall emotionless and walked in silence.

Back at the dorms, a concerned redhead walked into Bakugou's room, grateful that the door was unlocked.

"Hey, Bakugou?" Kirishima called out, only to be greeted by an empty room.

"Told you he went out, Kiri," Kaminari announced.

"Oh, Hey Kami," Kirishima asked, only to remember this was Bakugou’s room and whip around to look at Kaminari.

"I’m stealing his charger,” Kaminari informed, “it's faster than mine. If only I knew where he... aha!” He celebrated, having found out where the charger was, “his drawers!"

Kami roughly yanked open Bakugou's desk drawer and widened his eyes in shock.

"Kirishima," Kaminari called him over, “don’t these papers look familiar?”

No way, Kirishima thought, eyes wide as he stared down at the dewars contents.

A small pile of square violet papers where now on his floor, while some remained in the desk drawer.

No fucking way.

Several minutes of arguing later, Kaminari was still insisting that he was a kid genius and deserved an award for being correct.

"I told you!” Kaminari exclaimed, “I fucking told you!"

Kaminari began performing what seemed like a victory dance as Kirishima thought about what this could possibly mean.

"He doesn't love me," Kirishima said quietly.

"I know I was right," Kaminari started, only to look back at him, “Wait, what? Are you dumb up here?” Kaminari asked, tapping his head.

Kirishima was so sure that Bakugou didn't love him, even if the note that was written on the violet paper had said so.

"What in the fuck are you talking about, you dumb bitch,” Kaminari asked with a monotone voice, trying to stay calm.

"Yeah, he might have written me a note, that declared his love for me,” Kirishima began, “but I told him I loved someone else already!"

Kirishima was ready to explain the entire thing to his electric friend.

"Uhh, Kiri," Kaminari started.

"Also, yeah! I was talking about him, but he doesn't know that! I was too much of a coward to tell him!" Kirishima continued.

"Kirishima..." Kaminari tried again, lifting his hands as if to urge him to stop talking.

"So after I told him that, he got upset, ran away, and is probably getting over me as we speak!" Kirishima went on.

"Kirishima, oh fuck, shut up man," Kaminari attempted again, face full of worry.

"No! Just listen to me! We are just going to act like this never happened! I don't want to put Bakugou through any more pain! If I love him, and trust me, I do , I should prevent him from being hurt anymore!" Kirishima stated.

"Kirishima, I am literally begging you to shut up!" Kaminari desperately tried to get his red-haired friend to stop talking.

"You didn't see him that day Kami! I broke him! I- I-" Kirishima reached his hand up to grasp his hair.

"Kaminari, get out. Kirishima, sit down," Bakugou stated calmly, “now.”

Kirishima’s eyes widened as he walked to the bed and sat down, realizing Bakugou had to have heard at least half of his pitiful rant.

Kaminari scrambled out of the room, completely forgetting about the charger he came in for in the first place.

Bakugou shut the door and took a deep breath, "You are the stupidest person I have ever fucking met," he declared.

Kirishima let out a breathy laugh, “Look, Bakugou I'm really sorry. I will,” he hesitated, “be on my way. We can forget this ever happened and I’ll leave you alone if you want," Kirishima wiped his hands on his pants and stood up.

"Now why would I ever want that?" Bakugou asked, causing Kirishima to freeze with his back to Bakugou.

"Kirishima,” Bakugou sighed, “I’m in love with you. Despite what everyone says about me, I'm in love with you. You and your beautiful hair, and fucking eyes I could stare at for hours and never manage to get bored with. I love you so goddamn much, it makes me weak; and I love it. You are beyond the happiest person I have ever met, and you make me a better person even if it doesn’t seem like it in the slightest. That day, when the idiots said I couldn't love anyone, they were wrong. I am so deeply in love with you, and I just had to fucking show you that. Then once you told me you loved someone else, I lost it. I couldn't imagine you with anyone else, but I just didn't believe someone as amazing as you could love me. I’m terrible, no good. I’m so horrible, villains wanted me to join them, and not only that, but people thought I would too! Since I’m fucking disastrous! I couldn’t imagine a world where you loved me, but I do love you Eijiro. Only you."

"Bakugou," Kirishima turned around as Bakugou stood up.

"You have five seconds to slap me," Bakugou stated.

"Huh?" Kirishima asked as Bakugou got closer to him.

"Four," Bakugou said, moving in closer.

"Three," his voice got slightly quieter.

By now, Kirishima has grasped what was going on. So, he put his hand on the sides of Bakugou’s head and pulled him as close as he possibly could.

And then, they were kissing; they were finally kissing.

Their lips moved in sync. Kirishima had wanted this for so long, but eventually, they broke apart.

"I love you so much, so, so much” Kirishima whispered, “I don’t ever want to lose you."

"I’m not going anywhere, Eijiro," Bakugou whispered back, smiling.

They laid down in each other’s arms and fell asleep.

So what if they were wrong about him, Bakugou finally found someone for him, and they actually felt the same — and that’s all that mattered.
