present day...
jeongguk couldn't remember the last time he was in room by himself.
going to the washroom and bathing didn't count, as everyone needed privacy for that. but in every room he went to, inside or outside these palace walls, someone was always with him.
be it either a maid, a bodyguard, or his mate.
he was monitored 24/7 without fail. jeongguk felt like he couldn't breathe.
"your highness, his majesty has just arrived and requests your presence in the throne room." said his personal maid, momo, who was currently combing jeongguk's hair.
she had just come back from talking with the guard who knocked on the bedroom door earlier, to inform her of the news of the king's arrival. jeongguk was situated in front of his dressing table, staring at himself in the mirror as momo spoke to him while she continued to style his hair.
"i see" jeongguk replied to her, looking blankly at his reflection of the mirror
momo bit her lip, conflicted. she saw the state of how the omega prince was in and hated to see the poor boy act so unnaturally.
"shall i ask his majesty to give you some time before you meet him?"
momo knew quite well that the king would not be happy with the request. not happy at all.
jeongguk's blank gaze slid away from his reflection and regarded momo from the mirror. he then smiled at her. some emotion had returned to him.
the knot of conflicted feelings in momo transformed into confusion at the boys sudden change.
"thank you, but it's fine." he said and stood up from his seat.
"the sooner to greet him, the better. not to mention i haven't seen him in a long time." he said, with a wistful expression.
his soul bond ached with the absence of his other half and the mark on his neck tingled at the thought of his mate.
"i miss him."
it was exactly a month and a half since jeongguk had last seen his alpha and soulmate. the king had gone off to defend the eastern of part of the kingdom from foreign invaders that came from a southern isle. only a few letters and word of the mouth from palace officials were what jeongguk knew of his king's whereabouts.
three days ago, a messenger arrived on horseback at the gates of the palace. he brought joyous news of the invaders defeat and the king's return. everyone was ecstatic and the kingdom planned a huge party for their victory. the night of the king's return would be a spectacular event full of drinks, food, lights and celebrations.
yet, for some peculiar reason, jeongguk didn't know how he felt about it all.
did the king really have to come back?
jeongguk shook his head to clear away those perverse thoughts of his. he then dusted off the imaginary dirt he had on his clothes and walked towards the door. he turned to momo and nodded at her to stay. the bodyguards outside the doors would follow him wherever he went.
jeongguk glanced once more at himself in the mirror behind where momo stood.
he regarded his appearance: a young man dressed in his royal garbs of beautiful purples and blues; the royal colours. soft, brown hair was neatly combed in place. looking at his face, he saw smooth unblemished skin, tinted red lips that hid his bunny like teeth and bright, brown doe eyes that stared back at him.
a wave of nostalgia crashed over jeongguk. to him, he looked exactly as he could remember himself, the day he met his mate.
nothing yet everything had changed since then.
