Commitments

Summary:

Commitments.

Who needs them.

Work Text:

Commitments.

They’re easy to accept and hard to back out of. Piling up one by one slowly. People say I’m a people person, they’d be wrong. I am more of a people pleaser after all.

My name is Yamada Hizashi, and my twin Present Mic has trouble saying no to commitments. Or well, I should say I do, and that part of my personality leaks into Present Mics’.

A night like any other, back late from the radio station, to a house I wouldn’t dare call home. Small, dark and barren of any personal belongings. Just paper for work scattered haphazardly around the house. Kicking my boots off as I enter my bedroom before shuffling over to the calendar hanging above my desk.

Meeting tomorrow. A presentation the next day. And errand running after that.

Day after day.

Week after week.

Of commitments.

Reading each date as each number and phrase imprints into my soul. Closing my eyes, I take a deep breath and shrug my leather jacket off. Letting it drop onto the floor as I mirror it’s actions getting into bed. Reaching into my pants pocket I pull out my phone and place it onto my bedside table, face down.

No, that’s not good enough. I can’t do this anymore. I may not be able to back out of these commitments properly but I sure as hell can control my life. Grabbing the lighter and my phone off the bedside table I drift over to the hellish calendar. Tearing it off the walls I waltz my way out to my backyard.

Tossing the calendar into the burn barrel I lit it ablaze. Watching as that dreaded fucking calendar burned to ashes. Commitments gone with a blink of an eye. If only my phone would stop going off… Shouta must be off duty now then, is it really that late?  God, can’t he leave me alone? Can’t any of them leave me alone… I mean one less contact; one less friend is less commitments.

Blocked Aizawa Shouta.

One more familiar name added to the list as a small smile creeps its way onto my face. That small smile twisting into a pitiful laugh. Dropping my arms to my sides, phone slipping out of my grasp as I look to the sky for answers. Non-existent answers for non-existent questions. Tears running down my face lit with burning remnants of the commitment tracker.

I have to stop doing this.
