Park Jimin and Kim Taehyung have been friends since kindergarten when Taehyung decided that Jimin’s toys were more interesting than his. Jimin wasn’t very happy with the boy demanding to play with his toys at first but soon they became inseparable. And once they found out the meaning of the word soulmate they declared they were platonic soulmates forever.
In their last year of middle school they meet Jeon Jungkook who was a transfer student a year younger and the three of them clicked immediately. Jungkook was shy when they first met but quickly started opening up to his hyungs, showing his quirks and learning about theirs. He also felt out of place with the other two at times in the beginning because Taehyung and Jimin had been friends for most of their lives and Jungkook felt like he was intruding but the other two were always quick to reassure him and tell him that it felt like they were friends for longer than the few months they actually were. Jungkook soon got over his doubts and embraced their relationship to the fullest.
Three years later Jimin and Taehyung are in their last year of high school trying to decide what to do with their lives and stressing over the upcoming exams while Jungkook is playing Overwatch all the time.
“Can we go to my house today?” Jungkook asks. The three of them hang out every day after school usually at Taehyung’s house because it’s the one closest to the school so the other two are confused.
“Why Kookie?” Taehyung questions.
“My brother is coming over today from college. It’s been a couple of years since I last saw him and I want to make the most of it!” Jungkook says, getting excited at the thought of seeing his older brother again.
“We can just not hang out today. It will give you more time with your brother.” Jimin suggests. “We know you really miss him, Kookie.”
“No, no. I want you to meet him! He is so cool.”
Taehyung sighs. “Yes, we know. You might have said that once or twice.” He says, sharing a look with Jimin.
Taehyung and Jimin both have younger siblings whilst Jungkook has an older brother who stayed in his hometown to finish high school when his parents and younger brother moved. After that he went to college in another city so Taehyng and Jimin never met him. But that doesn’t mean they haven’t heard of him. Junkook loves his brother and is always talking about him so they know he studies music and wants to be a music producer and lyricist. Jungkook also brags a lot about his rapping skills so they are kind of curious about that.
Jungkook blushes. “Oh shut up. You know I admire him. Yoongi-hyung is really cool, you’ll see.”
With that conversation being finished they start walking towards Jungkook’s house, the air filled with their usual banter and jokes.
When they get to his house there is an unknown car parked in the driveway. Upon realization that his brother is home Jungkook sprints towards the door with Taehyung following after him while laughing, as usual. When Jimin arrives in Jungkook’s kitchen his vision is obstructed by Taehyung (he is obviously too big) so he can’t see the admirable Yoongi-hyung immediately but he can hear Jungkook.
“How have you been? Have you eaten yet?”
“Jungkook, we talked yesterday on the phone and I’m still fine.” Yoongi answers and laughs at his younger brother. He misses being with him too but still they talked just yesterday.
Meanwhile Jimin got out from behind Taehyung to finally have a look at the man Jungkook admired so much and who had the raspiest voice he ever heard and he was…. disappointed? ‘That’s him?’ that’s what he thought. ‘The great Yoongi-hyung is that guy a bit hunched over, with some panda eyes and disheveled white blonde hair (that needed some fixing in the roots if you ask him)?’. Sure he was handsome with those cat-like eyes that shined when he smiled that cute gummy smile towards his brother. You could tell he loved Jungkook as much as Jungkook loved him. It was nice in a way. But he wasn’t seeing the coherence between what Jungkook told them and what he was seeing.
“So this is the famous Jeon Yoongi?” Taehyung asks excited. He is wearing his big smile and looking expectantly at both Jungkook and Yoongi. He was always very curious to know the guy Jungkook admires so much.
“Well I’m Yoongi, Min Yoongi. Nice to meet you. You must be Taehyung. Jungkook has told me all about you.”
“Yes, I’m Tae but….” He looks at Jungkook. Jimin does the same. They’re curious.
“Yoongi’s dad is not my biological father. After my mom died our parents married each other and Yoongi got himself a baby brother.” Jungkook answers and smiles at Yoongi.
“You never said anything about that, Kookie.” Jimin says, a bit offended because it was a pretty important bit about his life. And for that reason he has a small pout on his lips.
“Sorry Jiminie-hyung, I don’t usually think much about it and didn’t think it would be that relevant.”
“It’s fine, you dork. You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to.” He reassures and gives him one of his eye smiles.
“Well I understand then why the mistake.” Yoongi says. “And you must be Jimin. Jungkook has also told me everything about you. Really he doesn’t shut up about you two. It’s Jiminie-hyung this, Taehyungie-hyung that.”
“HYUNG! Stop embarrassing me!” Jungkook exclaims while he blushes and Yoongi laughs right in his face.
“It’s fine, Kookie!” Jimin reassures him while still smiling.
“Besides you better talk about us Jeon Jungkook! We are your bestest friends!” Taehyng says, making everyone laugh. “It’s nice to finally meet you, too. Kookie is also always gushing about you. ‘Oh Yoongi-hyung is so cool! He is going to be a famous music producer one day! Yoongi-hyung is a rap god!’ He never shuts up.”
Safe to say Jungkook is feeling very embarrassed and hot as everyone is laughing at him. He turns to Yoongi and starts asking him questions about his other hyungs at uni and other stuff.
Meanwhile, Jimin teasingly whispers to Taehyung. “Did I detect a bit of a jealous tone there, Tae? Hum?”
“Oh shut up.” Taehyung whispers back, blushing. Truth is, Taehyung has a bit of a crush on Jungkook but only his platonic soulmate knows about it. He can’t tell Kookie for obvious reasons but that doesn’t stop Jimin from teasing him whenever he can.
“I still think you should talk to him, Taetae.”
“And we’ve already discussed it many times and I still think I shouldn’t. It would ruin our friendship. You would be involved too, Chim. What side would you take? Would you be my friend or his friend?”
Jimin sighs. “You’re already thinking of the worst case scenario. Besides that would never happen! It’s Jungkook we are talking about here.” He understands his friend’s point of view but if he could confirm what he can see, then Jungkook also had a big crush on Taehyung. He looks at Tae with stars in his eyes. Jimin wishes he had someone to look at him like that.
“Look, Chim, I’m not changing my mind, you know that.” Taehyung ends their whispered convo that way and goes to talk with Jungkook and Yoongi, showing his charismatic persona.
Jimin knows that Taehyung is scared that his confession will somehow ruin their friendship but Jimin disagrees. And Taehyung is also convinced that Jungkook is as straight as an arrow because he had a girlfriend at the end of last year but that didn’t last. And it’s easy to understand why. Jungkook kept spending most of his time with his best friends so his girlfriend ended up dumping him. During the two months that they dated, it was Jimin who comforted Taehyung whenever Jungkook and Ha Rin had a date. And when the break up happened Taehyung was the one who stayed all night hugging and cuddling a heartbroken Jungkook and reassuring him that he would find the perfect girl for him someday.
So, overall, a mess. Jimin just wanted what was best for both of them but he also didn’t want to force anything. They should just go at their own pace.
After they talked with Yoongi some more who updated his brother on how his friends and hyungs from his hometown were doing, Yoongi said he had to take care of some business and go grocery shopping since their parents asked. So the three musketeers went up to Jungkook’s room and proceeded to do what they usually do in the afternoon after school. They played some videogames while talking a bit about Yoongi.
“What did you guys think about him?” Jungkook asks, at the same time concentrating on the game.
“I thought he would be more, you know, cool. Or cooler looking.” Jimin says and shrugs his shoulders.
“That’s because you almost didn’t talk to him, Chim. I really liked him, Kookie, I thought he was as cool as you said.” Taehyung smiles at Jungkook, full-on square smile that makes the former blush a bit.
“Thank you, Taehyungie-hyung. And he is right, Chim. You need to talk to him more. I think you would really like him if you get to know him better.”
“I’m not saying I wouldn’t, I’m just saying that from what you described I was expecting someone a bit different that’s all.” Jimin replies. He didn’t mean to offend Jungkook nor Yoongi, of course.
With that settled, they kept doing what they usually do and played videogames until it was time for Jimin and Taehyung to go home.
