Chapter Text

Sero blinked his eyes open as golden light from the sunrise poured into the bedroom. He stretched his legs out and yawned as he rolled over, propping himself up on one elbow. He was grateful his internal alarm clock always seemed to run ahead of the actual clock in the room because it meant he got a few peaceful minutes to bask in the sunrise and stare at his husband every morning before the inevitably hectic day began.

Kaminari was asleep on his side, facing away from Sero. His golden hair was fanned out over their baby blue bedsheets. The blanket had slipped down to their waists so Sero had an unobstructed few of the defined lines of Kaminari’s bare back. Kaminari was all petite and lean muscle and it looked good. Kaminari had always looked good to Sero, since the day he met him their 1st year at UA. The first time he heard Kaminari laugh, Sero knew he was already in love.

And once Kaminari had realized his feelings for his best ‘bro’ went a hell of a lot deeper than a bromance, they had been inseparable

Well…almost inseparable. Over the course of their three years at UA Sero and Kaminari had broken up six times. But, not a single breakup had lasted longer than a week before they drifted back together. Sero proposed the day they graduated, feeling the need to lock down his man as soon as he physically could. Kaminari accepted before the ‘Will you-“ was even out of his mouth.

Marriage had it’s up and downs. They fought. Infrequently, but they did fight. Kaminari had spent his fair share of nights sleeping on Bakugou’s couch. Sero spent a few lonely nights on the roof of their apartment building, watching the street, waiting for his husband to come home. And Kaminari always came home. Always. He needed Sero. Sero needed Kaminari.

Their friends were great, but no one knew them like they knew each other. Only Kaminari could tell when Sero’s smile was fake. Only Sero knew exactly how to stop Kaminari’s panic attacks. Kaminari was the only person that knew just how deep Sero’s insecurities ran and Kaminari was the only person Sero believed sometimes when he said he loved Sero. They’d seen each other at their highs and lows and it only served to cement the unbreakable bond between them.

Sero liked seeing Kaminari like he was now. Breathing softly in his sleep, oblivious to the world’s problems. The sun was making his hair look like it was glowing. The eyeliner he forgot to take off even looked adorable smudged out over his cheeks. Sero reached down to rub his thumb over the smudge and Kaminari’s nose immediately wrinkled up and he groaned, rolling over onto his back, before cracking an eye open to stare up at Sero. He sleepily grinned.

“Hi handsome.” Kaminari rasped, voice heavy with sleep.

“Good morning.” Sero bent down to peck his husband’s lips swiftly. Kaminari whined when he pulled away and attempted to follow Sero’s lips as he pulled away.

“You’re going to be late.” Sero chuckled, pushing him back down.

“Babeeeeee I don’t even patrol today. It’s just a meeting, who cares if Im late.” Kaminari whined, bringing his arms up to wrap around Sero, attempting to drag him back down. Sero resisted easily.

“The faster you go to your meeting the faster you can come home and hang out with the kids.” Sero teased, bringing a hand up to brush away Kaminari’s hair, watching as the blonde’s eyes lit up.

“The kids? Are we sitting toady!?” Kaminari sat up so fast his forehead banged against Sero’s jaw with an oomph. “Oops, sorry babe.” Kaminari laughed, reaching out to stroke where he had him.

“Akio and Hiroki are coming over around noon.” Sero said, laughing now as well. Kaminari reached forward and pulled him into a kiss, this time Sero did not resist and allowed his lips to mold lazily with Kaminari’s. After a minute the blonde pulled away.

“Ok, you convinced me. I’ll get up. But only if you help me shower.” Kaminari almost purred. “My back is just so sore from yesterday.”

“You sat on top of a building for 8 hours doing nothing babe.” Sero teased.

“Yeah, hence the sore back. Pleassseeee. Please. Please. Pretty pleaseeeee.”

Sero put his hand over Kaminari’s mouth to shut him up.

“Fine. God you are lucky you’re pretty.”

“No,” Kaminari said, peeling his hand away and kissing it. “I’m lucky YOU are pretty.”

Sero just chuckled and scooped the smaller man up and carried him toward their bathroom.

------------------

After their shower Sero practically shoved Kaminari out the door, reiterating that the sooner he got his meeting over with, the sooner he could come home to help babysit.

He then took advantage of his morning off by getting caught up on house chores. He and Kaminari might have been disaster people in high school but they had both learned to appreciate the relaxation a clean apartment helped maintain.

A little past noon he was just drying the last pan he had been washing when his doorbell rang. He dried his hands and went to answer.

“Hi Sero!” Midoriya chimed. He stood with a baby carrier strapped to his front, a backpack, and an umbrella stroller with another backpack object hanging off it. Both the baby in the carrier and the child in the stroller looked like they were sleeping.

Sero stepped aside and motioned for them to come in.

“Sleepy much?” Sero asked as Midoriya shrugged off the backpack.

“Akio had a pretty tough day at physical therapy, but I imagine he won’t be out long. He’s really excited to play with Kaminari.”

“You should have seen how fast Denki got out of bed this morning when I said we were babysitting.” Sero said as he held his hands out to take the Hiroki from the baby carrier into his arms. Sero cradled the newborn while Midoriya took off the carrier and set it by the backpack.

“I really appreciate you guys doing this. Kacchan won’t admit it but he needs a break and we…haven’t had a night alone in…over a month with my mom being sick and his parents out of town and Kirishima can’t because Mina’s pregnancy hasn’t been so easy and-“

“Dude,” Sero cut off the man’s rambling. “You know Denki and I love to have them, anytime. They help stave off our baby hunger.”

“How’s the search going?”

Sero sighed. He and Kaminari had been going through the adoption process for almost a year now, waiting to be selected as possible parents for a newborn.

“We did an interview last week with some expecting parents. They…just like the others. Even though they’re giving up their kid, they’re still scared to give them up to someone with Denki’s quirk.” Sero shrugged.

“That’s so…. that’s just… That’s so frustrating! Kaminari has better control over his quirk than half of the kids from our class and look how many of them have kids!”

“Don’t remind me.” Sero sighed again.

“Oh. Oh that came out wrong. Im sorry. I just mean that you two deserve to be parents too.” Midoriya offered him a sad smile.

“It’ll happen when it’s the right time, with the right kid.”

“I hope you two keep trying, it really is worth it.” Midoriya smiled and squatted to kiss the sleeping child in the stroller on the cheek.

“I don’t think we’re planning on giving up anytime soon. Denki really wants to be a father.” Sero looked down at the baby in his arms.

“And you?” Midoriya asked, standing back up.

“Me too. Me too.” He smiled softly at Hiroki and then cleared his throat, looking back up at Midoriya. “Now you get out of here. You just told me you haven’t had sex with Bakugou in a month and you need to get home before he blows something up.”

“I didn’t say that!” Midoriya blushed furiously.

“Both your kids sleep in your room right now. You denying it?” Sero cocked an eyebrow. If possible, Midoriya blushed harder.

“That’s what I thought. Go. Shoo.” Sero freed an arm and waved Midoriya out the door. “Go get your man. We’ll take good care of these guys.”

----------------

With Midoriya gone, Sero grabbed the weird backpack off the stroller and carried it and Hiroki to his room. The weird backpack unfolded out into a baby travel bed thing where he could safely lay Hiroki to sleep where he couldn’t roll off their bed. He left the baby to sleep and walked back into the room to find the four-year-old now awake and alert.

“Hi Sero!” He said cheerfully and raised his hands to be picked up. The kid had yet to regain the use of his legs following an illness a few months before.

“Howdy.” Sero replied, just as cheerful picking him up out of the stroller and moving him to the couch.

“Where’s Kami?”

“He’s at work but he’ll be here soon.”

“Good. Papa said Kami will play Mario with me.”

Sero smiled.

“I bet he will. What do you want to do while we wait?”

“Um…Can we color?”

----------------

They colored for another hour before Kaminari burst through the front door.

“Kami!”

“Akiooooooooooooooooo!!!!” Kaminari cheered and picked the child up, spinning him around.

Sero spent the rest of the night watching his husband play with Akio and Hiroki when the baby woke up. And his heart tugged a little, just like it had every time they babysat. Kaminari looked good with kids. He was meant to be a father. Sero wanted that, wanted to be one alongside him.

Someday. They had another interview the next week, eventually someone would approve of them. Eventually they would get their baby.

Only, that wasn’t how it was meant to work out.

They went into the adoption center the next week for their interview. Just as before…just as always the couple with a baby to give, didn’t want to give it to them. They walked down the long hallways of the center. Sero was listening and talking to the social worker walking with them, talking about the possibilities of looking into international adoption. Kaminari wasn’t paying attention, he was doing his best to hold back his tears as he mindlessly looked out the windows they were passing.

When something outside one of the windows caught his eye and he froze. Outside lay a small playground where a handful of children were playing. But his vision was focused on a young girl standing all alone. A young girl with tangled and unruly black hair watching the ground, occasionally glancing up to stare longingly at the other kids. But what drew his attention the most, were the two bright yellow gloves she was wearing. Rubber gloves. He’d worn similar gloves when he was little.

Without really thinking about it, and without saying anything to Sero who was now further down the hall still in conversation…Kaminari pushed open the door to the playground and walked up, standing next to her.

“Hello.” He said quietly. The little girl looked over at him. Why was her hair so messy?

“My name’s Kaminari Denki. Whats yours?”

The girl thought for a second and looked back at the ground before she whispered.

“M. Emiri. Age 4.” She whispered it like she had rehearsed it a million times.

“Well M. Emiri, why are you swinging all alone?”

“The kids don’t play with me.” She whispered.

“Aw, why not? You look like lots of fun to play with!”

“I shock too much. I not supposed to touch.”

I knew it. Kaminari squatted so he was more eye level with the little girl. He didn’t know it, but Sero and the social worker were now watching his every move through the window.

“Hey I shock too, see.” He raised one hand and let a few sparks of electricity dance over his fingers. Emiri’s eyes widened. “Can I see yours?”

She hesitated before she carefully pulled off her gloves, letting them fall to the ground. She held up a delicate little hand and a fizzle of electricity ran over her skin.

“Wow! We are the same! High five!” He held up his hand and she immidiatly flinched backward.

“No I not supposed to touch with no gloves.” She clasped her hands together. Kaminari kept his hand in the air between them.

“Hey it’s ok, I promise I won’t hurt you and I promise you wont hurt me. We both shock remember?” He wiggled his fingers and spoke softly, “Come on, high five?”

She slowly, slowly brought one of her hands up and reached it out to Kaminari’s. Her fingers were trembling and then she stopped when an inch apart an arc of electricity jumped between Kaminari’s fingers and her own.

“Woah.” She whispered.

“Woah.” He agreed. And then she flattened her hand against his. Kaminari could feel the voltage passed between them, a dull fuzzy feeling. He wrapped his fingers around her hand and squeezed. As he watched, tears filled her eyes and he brought his free hand up to her cheek. A tiny arc jumped between them there too before he cupper it gently. She inhaled a shaky breath and then sagged into his touch. Tears pricked at the corners of his eyes and he smiled.

He talked to her for another twenty or so minutes before he left, promising he’d come back to see her. He walked back into the building to find his husband, leaning against the window. Kaminari walked up to him, not noticing theblue folder Sero was holding.

“Ha-Hanta?” He asked, voice shaking. “Hanta I…Listen I know we agreed that…that we would get a-a newborn. A baby we could raise from the start. I know that b-but I…” Kaminari stared at the ground. “Hanta that little girl needs me and if you don’t want that and you want to leave just…just know I won’t blame you or stop you ok?”

Sero hit him over the head with the folder.

“Hey! What was that for?” Kaminari whined, sniffing back his tears.

“Because you’re a dumbass if you think I’m ever going to leave you.” Sero said, smirking as he thrust the folder into Kaminari’s hands.

“What’s this?”

“M. Emiri’s adoption papers.”

Kaminari snapped his eyes to meet Sero’s, eyebrow raised in question.

“Come on Denki, you two touching hands like that with all those sparks was damn near biblical. I told you, the right kid would find us at the right time.”

Kaminari sobbed and flung himself at his husband. Sero barely had time to catch him, wrapping his arms around Kaminari.

“I love you Hanta. I love you so much.” Kaminari sobbed. Sero smiled and buried his face into blonde hair.

“I love you too Denki.”
