Fitzgerald hummed as he walked to the door. This was his first Christmas without his family, that too in a strange land. Ah well, it was a good chance to experience Japanese culture. Especially with his new partner...
He rang the doorbell and immediately Dazai opened the door, wearing a loose sweater and jeans. The scent of something spicy permeated the room, filling Fitzgerald's nose. He wondered what delicious food waited for him. After a brief kiss at the doorway, he removed his shoes (he remembered this time!) and went straight to the dining table. While he clearly didn't expect a feast...he was surprised by the sight in front of him.
He would have never imagined that a Christmas dinner would be a bucket of fried chicken, that too Kentucky Fried Chicken. When he was in America, he wouldn't even feed it to the dogs, yet here he was, expected to eat this as a holiday meal.
Dazai sat opposite to him, "Ah sorry, I knew this wasn't what you expected. However this is what most of us Japanese people eat for Christmas," he said as he took a chicken leg and ate it with relish. Fitzgerald looked at the box with defeat, and took a bite from it. It wasn't as bad as he expected it to be, but he had eaten far better. It was understandable though, the Japanese didn't have the same relation to Christmas as the West did.
"Christmas here is usually a romantic holiday, couples go out and spend time together like Valentine's day," Dazai said as he drank some soda to wash down the meat.
Well, that seemed to be interesting information. Fitzgerald made note of it, making plans already to give Dazai a real Christmas dinner.
But for now, he had to enjoy this cheap yet warm dinner on this quiet cold night
