Work Text:
Yoongi watched how the clock on his phone turned from 7:59pm to 8pm. A sigh left him, and he checked his phone once again hoping that maybe he had a text message.
He didn’t.
Another sigh.
One hour had passed. 60 Minutes since he had sat down in this fucking booth. 3600 Seconds since he was supposed to meet his boyfriend. But apparently, he had been stood up. By his boyfriend of three fucking years.
Had he received a single text or call from him that he wouldn’t show? Of course not. Why would he check his phone if his boyfriend would have at least the manners to tell him that he couldn’t make it? Also, Yoongi wouldn’t still be sitting there, waiting and still hoping that there just had been a problem regarding work. It would be a reason he would except. He knew how busy his boyfriend was. Even more a reason for this special date.
Yoongi saw the waitress approaching him again asking if he was ready to order but he again asked for more time not losing hope. She looked at him with a sympathetic look which made his skin crawl in embarrassment. She wasn’t the only one. People all around him starred at him with those apologetic looks that he didn’t ask for. It was like they knew exactly that he had been stood up and he started to feel worse and worse.
Yoongi checked his phone for the last time although he would have gotten a notification if his boyfriend had texted him in the last five minutes.
He decided to take the rest of his dignity and leave when a boy with silver hair he’d never seen before sat down in front of him. “I’m so sorry, babe. I didn’t mean to be so late, there was an accident and well you can imagine.” The boy explained loud enough so a few people around them could hear it.
Yoongi starred at him.
The boy leaned over the table whispering, “Just go with it, I’m Taehyung” and leaned back waving the waitress over.
“Yoongi” Yoongi mumbled as introduction still confused over the boy’s sudden appearance.
Taehyung smiled at him bright and happy and Yoongi tried to comprehend what exactly was happening.
The waitress came over. She seemed somehow relieved that Yoongi finally had someone sitting in the booth across the table. She took their orders and left.
“So, what is your plan?”, Yoongi decided to ask after he had overcome the little shock or more like surprise.
That Taehyung guy again smiled bright and his smile was somehow formed like a rectangular.
Cute Yoongi thought and scolded himself afterwards. You have a boyfriend he reminded himself but another voice in the back also reminded him that that said boyfriend didn’t bother to show up.
“You see- “Taehyung started and placed his elbows on the table to support his chin with his intertwined hands “-I was in the restaurant across the street with some friends and I saw you through the window. I am not a creep I promise but I noticed you were alone and kept checking your phone, so I assumed you had been stood up and I wanted to spare you from the embarrassment.” He shrugged as if it was not a big deal. But, well, it indeed was a big deal. Why would some stranger just leave his friend to join some other stranger just so that the person wouldn’t feel embarrassed?
“That’s- “Yoongi searched for the right words.
“Really kind of me? Yeah I know.”
Yoongi frowned. He wouldn’t say kind. Well, maybe it was kind, but it was also strange. To him at least. But he shrugged and decided to go with it. It wasn’t like he had to lose anything.
“Oh, and that person that didn’t show? Whoever it is they are a dick.”
That made Yoongi laugh and the smile of Taehyungs face grew if possible.
“I agree. It’s nice to meet you Taehyung.”
“The pleasure is mine. So you want to tell me who stood you up?”
Yoongi leaned back and studied Taehyungs face. He wondered what it was that made him look kind of … different. He was definitely very handsome and especially when he smiled, and his eyes lit up like the star on top of a freaking Christmas tree.
“It seems like my boyfriend wasn’t that excited to meet me.”
Taehyungs smile fell, and he gave him a short sympathetic look. “Man, that sucks. I’m sorry.”
Yoongi just waved it off liking the smile better than the look he had received from people all over the restaurant before Taehyung had saved his ass.
“How long?”
“How long what?”
Taehyung rolled his eyes. “How long have you two been together?”
A sigh came from Yoongi and he closed his eyes shortly. “For three years. Today is our anniversary.” He opened his eyes again to see a blank expression on Taehyungs face which made him almost grin. Almost.
“Okay look.” Taehyung put his hands down on the table leaning a bit closer. “If you give me his address or number or name I really don’t care than I’m going to find him and make him pay.”
Yoongi threw his head back as he started to laugh at Taehyungs seriousness. He relaxed completely against the red leader of the booth and smiled bright at Taehyung thinking that this evening wouldn’t be so bad after all.
Taehyung had leaned back and crossed his arm a small pout on his lips. “Why are you laughing? I was serious.”
Still giggling Yoongi just shook his head. “You don’t even know me. Why would you want to make him pay?”
“Well alone from looking at you for almost an hour I got the feeling that you are a really sweet and caring person. Oh, and you are really hot.”
That made him laugh again and he clutched his stomach. “You are too much.”
Taehyung grinned again. “I am?”
Yoongi nodded. He wasn’t told often that he was hot or handsome. Not even by his boyfriend. Not anymore at least. And sweet and caring weren’t really words that were used to describe him.
“Stop laughing!” Taehyung whined and Yoongi though it was adorable to see the boy pout.
“Stop making me laugh than.”
For a short time, they just grinned at each other. Than the waitress brought their drinks and their meals shortly after.
“What about your friends?” asked Yoongi and shoved some of the pasta into his mouth.
Taehyung did it the other way around. First, he pushed the full fork in before asking with full mouth: “What about them?”
Yoongi shook his head at the action and handed the silver haired a napkin. “Well, don’t you have to go back to them?”
Taehyung shook his head and wiped his mouth but ruining the `hard’ work right after by shoving another huge portion into his mouth. “No. They kind of encouraged me to do this whole thing.” He underlined his words with hand gestures and Yoongi raised an eyebrow.
“You had to be encouraged?” Yoongi didn’t know the boy for long but what he witnessed had let him to the conclusion that Taehyung was a very confident person. What explained why he was surprised by that statement.
“Well, yes. I mean it is kind of strange what I did, right?”
Yoongi chuckled bringing his glass of wine to his lips. “You don’t say.” He sipped at his wine and licked his lips. The action seemed to caught Taehyungs eyes and they rested there for mere seconds, but the stare had been so intense that Yoongi felt himself blush. Hoping Taehyung wouldn’t notice he took another sip of the wine.
Taehyung rolled his eyes in a playful way. “Don’t be mean. I saved your ass so be thankful.”
Yoongi nodded and they continued their dinner that way. They noticed that they had a lot of similarities and shared the passion for music. Yoongi realized that he hadn’t had that much fun in some time now and that he was happy that he spent the night with Taehyung instead of his boyfriend. And maybe he felt a connection grow between himself and the silver haired boy in front of him. A connection that had been missing with his boyfriend. He only realized now as he stared at the beautiful human being across the table listening to whatever he was talking about.
Taehyung was unique. He had seen that pretty fast and he just got more convinced over the evening. Like, that boy believed that there were rabbits on the moon. Yoongi had laughed so hard at that comment that some people had looked at them strangely, but he hadn’t cared.
After both of them had finished diner and dessert they shortly fought, well not really, over who would pay. In the end Yoongi payed for the main menu and the drinks and Taehyung payed for the desserts. That little interaction had something on it that made Yoongi smile from ear to ear.
They left the restaurant and Yoongi realized that he just had the best non-planned surprise date ever.
He turned to Taehyung who starred at the dark night sky looking for who knows what. The smile that formed on his lips was sweet and Yoongi thought that he didn’t want to let the boy go just like that.
Just as he wanted to speak up, Taehyung turned to him with that rectangular smile of his. “Will you go on another date with me? A real one this time?”
His answer was nothing he had to think about. “Yes!” He nodded, and Taehyungs smile grew just a bit wider. “Perfect” He whispered, and a shiver run down Yoongis back.
This was the beginning of something wonderful.
