Shit, You're Actually Hot!

Summary:

He wore the glasses. As much as he hated them and the way it ruined his new aesthetic, he still wore them. His mother had spent good money on them and it was only a matter of time before he would get contacts, besides, it was the first time he could make out the individual leaves on a tree, the true definition of Crimson riots jaw and chiseled abs, the specks of gold in his mother’s eyes, and he was enjoying it more than he thought possible.
He had never realized how bad his vision was, people’s faces were way clearer too, not just the blurry features he had grown to recognize. It was incredible!

Notes:

lmao its me the bitch who has two other fics in progress and puts it all on hold for this

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Kirishima never did like hospitals. Sitting in a quiet room full of medical instruments and walls decorated with boring diagrams of the human body and reminders to stay up to date with vaccinations was boring enough, having his mother in the room fiddling with her nails anxiously as they await what could potentially be bad news is even worse.

It was a standard wellness check-up, mandatory to enter UAs entrance exam. There was no doubt in his mind that he was in good health, his family boasted about their great immune system and strong hearts and there were no known hereditary problems that could have been passed down, but the what-ifs still haunted his thoughts.

The loud crying of a baby can be heard all the way into the room from down the hall and Kirishima winces with sympathy, they’re probably getting their shots today.

It isn’t long after the crying has quieted that the doctor returns with a cheery smile and enthusiastic knock.

“Welp, looks like you’re healthy as an ox!”

He can hear his mothers sigh of relief, and smiles back at the doctor, already getting ready to hop off the stiff table.

“Unfortunately, you also have the eyesight of one.”

“Oh? What do you mean?” his mothers worried expression is back, and he can feel dread pooling in his stomach at the sight.

“It’s nothing too bad, his depth perception is a little too off for comfort if he is going to be in UA’s entrance exam. That and he is noticeably near sighted, any problems in school? If you can’t see the board your grades may be suffering.”

“I do have trouble seeing the board sometimes in class, I didn’t think it would be because of my eyesight though…”

The doctor merely hums, jotting down notes before turning to his mother and offering to write a recommendation to an eye clinic later that day.

Two weeks later he is staring down at his prescription glasses.

-

He wore the glasses. As much as he hated them and the way it ruined his new aesthetic, he still wore them. His mother had spent good money on them and it was only a matter of time before he would get contacts, besides, it was the first time he could make out the individual leaves on a tree, the true definition of Crimson riots jaw and chiseled abs, the specks of gold in his mother’s eyes, and he was enjoying it more than he thought possible.

He had never realized how bad his vision was, people’s faces were way clearer too, not just the blurry features he had grown to recognize. It was incredible!

When the contacts came in, he would be exactly who he wanted to be. He was leaving his old self behind and despite how wonderful they were the glasses would have to go before school started.

-

“FUCK! Ah that hurt…”

He watches as the ripped contact on his finger tip turns red with blood before throwing it away and rinsing his bleeding finger. Putting in contacts was apparently a lot harder than he previously imagined. His hand kept shaking, the contacts felt weird in his grip, and worst of all his eye kept hardening anytime he got even marginally close enough to put the contact in place. During the last few attempts he has rushed to put it in place and ended up with a paper cut on three different fingers and at least five ripped contacts.

The red glasses on his night stand are easily visible from where he stands in the bathroom, unassuming yet taunting. He passed the entrance exam and would be starting school within the next few weeks, he didn’t have time to fumble around with contacts, didn’t want to deal with them at all really.

The last pair are left in the case, behind the mirror sink.

-

Lying to his parents about finally being able to put in his contacts is hard, especially when the world has fallen back into a blurry mess. It’s fine, I was fine before and I’m fine now, nothing is getting in my way.

He still wears his glasses in the privacy of his own home and its never a problem when he leaves without them, he’s near sighted with zero depth perception not blind.

-

The doctor hadn’t been lying when she said his grades could end up suffering. The class seating arrangement was more or less set in stone if Aizawa’a withering glare when he asked to be switched further up was anything to go by. Maybe asking to be moved up so he was closer to a friend wasn’t the best way to phrase it but he’d rather suffer minor headaches from straining to see the board than admit he was supposed to wear glasses and couldn’t put in contacts.

Getting his first major test back to see a failing grade was not what he expected at all but it hardened his resolve to find a solution. That solution being one explosive blonde.

-

Bakugou was cool, inspiring, motivated, strong, the list was endless. Kirishima grew a fondness for the other teen pretty fast, it wasn’t all that much of a surprise when he realized his affection went further than ‘just friends’. There is no moment in time that can be pinpointed as the exact time he fell in love with Bakugou Katsuki, the few months they had known each other had been nothing short of a whirlwind of events. No matter how fast paced it was Eijiro could say with the utmost confidence that he trusted Bakugou with his life, he also knew the blonde felt the same whether he ever decided to admit it or not.

One thing that genuinely irked him was the fact he could never see him clearly in person. Pulling out his glasses from under his bed and googling pictures of the famous UA student, wasn’t very helpful either. Every single picture of Bakugou was unflattering with his face contorted in rage at having his picture taken or two middle fingers held up to shield his face.

He eventually went so far as to snap his own pictures of the blonde behind his back. The results weren’t any more satisfying and he had to come to terms with the fact that the guy he had a crush on really was that ugly or his photography skills were really absolute shit. He didn’t even think about asking his classmates what they thought of the blonde’s appearance, it would be too weird and probably make him look suspicious for wanting to know in the first place.

Whether or not Bakugou was as good looking in person as he was in the red heads heart, Kirishima merely shrugged it off, love is blind after all.

-

Moving into the dorms was fun, he got to get closer to all his classmates and Bakugou was only a hop, skip and knock away at all times. Tutoring sessions were always followed by idle chatting or games and movies, always held in the blonde’s room cause apparently his own was “too hideously red and obnoxious to survive more than five minutes in”. It was perfect. Until a minor accident changed their typical routine.

Bakugou had accidently set off an explosion in his room when his ungloved hands got too close to a candle he wasn’t even supposed to have, so the tutoring session was temporarily moved to Kirishima’s room. Temporarily became indefinitely when the blonde declared he finally got Eijiro’s stinky feet smell out of his carpet and didn’t want the red head back to stink it up again.

It was easy letting Bakugou invade his personal space, welcomed even. It felt comfortable and safe and homey to have the blonde yelling and cursing as he lounged on the bed like he owned the very room he sat in.

His guard had been lowered, he had forgotten about one of the only secrets he had that bore physical evidence.

He had left to go the bathroom, Bakugou yelling after him when his dramatic leap off the bed had their notebooks and pens spilling onto the floor, laughing all the way down the hall.

He comes back with a teasing smile, ready to tease the other for not being able to leave a mess. Bakugou had predictably cleaned up the notebooks and pens, putting them away in their rightful spots, what Kirishima had not expected was to come back to the sight of Bakugou looking into the case he kept his glasses in.

“What the fuck shitty hair? Your wear glasses?”

It’s a pretty dumb question considering those red framed glasses were found under his bed with his other miscellaneous possessions and Kirishima would say as much on any other day but right now he feels exposed. Words aren’t coming to him so he merely nods his head in confirmation.

“Put them on!”

“what?!”

“I said put them on! I won’t say it again so just hurry up!”

His damn hands shake as he reaches out to take the glasses from the blondes outstretched one. He doesn’t know why he is so nervous. They were just glasses! Nothing significant or worth getting antsy about. He can feel the blondes gaze burning through his head, waiting in anticipation for something Eijiro himself can’t identify.

With the glasses firmly on his face he takes a deep breath, steadying himself before facing the other.

When he opens his eyes to see the blonde across from him, he screams.

“WHAT THE SHIT?!?! YOU’RE HOT?!?!”
