Work Text:

You decided to go to the movies on your own. There was no particular motive in doing it—you just had the time and money, and a certain movie piqued your interest…

…Okay, maybe there was a reason you went alone. It was a children’s movie, an animated one, to be specific, and your friends weren’t exactly interested in watching such. No matter how hard you tried to convince them that the plot was good, they simply refused.

So you sat there in the cold cinema, without any seatmates… just you, your popcorn, and soda.

A few minutes after the trailers started rolling, a peculiar pair caught your eye. It was dark, but you were able to make out a young boy, probably around four years old, and a man, probably in his 20s. The child sat on the seat directly in front of you, with the man on his right.

However, just as the film began, the boy started to complain about something. You couldn’t figure out what he was saying, but then the man picked him up from his seat, sat him on his lap, and tucked the boy inside his jacket. After snuggling him a bit and putting his chin on the young one’s head, they leaned back comfortably and went back to watching.

As the movie progresses, you can hear both of them reacting animatedly. They seem to be in awe with what’s happening on the screen. They shared the same level of excitement, and the same amount of sorrow when it came to the sad scenes. Watching them was almost as amusing as watching the film.

When the lights switched on at the end, a long, audible “Wow!” came from the kid, which made you giggle loudly. This caught the attention of the two, and they turn towards your direction. You end up looking at the kid first, and then at the man. Now that the area is well illuminated, you could see their features clearly. They were definitely blessed with good looks. The young boy had black hair, almond shapes eyes, round, chubby cheeks, and crooked teeth that stood out from his plush-lipped mouth.  The man was definitely in his 20s, and undeniably handsome (or maybe, beautiful), with black hair, a chiseled face, long lashes, a perfect nose, and full lips. Moles were scattered on his face, but they did not make him any less attractive.  After having a good look at both of them, you managed to answer, “Y-yeah… Wow.” (Although you weren’t sure if at this point, you were referring to the movie, of the persons in front of you.)

“Hear that, Min Ji? She likes the movie too!” The man told the boy who was still tucked inside his jacket, before nuzzling his hair.

Unsure how to respond, and whether you can still handle their adorableness, you wave them goodbye and exited the cinema.

As you were walking out, you thought about the pair again. You briefly wondered why it was only the two of them back there. Judging by the way that they treated each other, you concluded that the man was probably his dad. The mom was absent in the scene, but there could be plenty of reasons why she was. Not that you had anything against single parents—in fact, you admire their efforts. Raising a child was already hard, and doing it alone would probably more difficult.

You took one more glance at the movie house, remembering the two of them and their features. Despite their closeness, you realized that they did not look like each other, but then again, the boy could’ve taken his from his mom…

You gave yourself a light flick on the forehead. Y/N, stop thinking about them!

Just then, the young boy was running out from the cinema, laughing hard, and the man was chasing after him with a wide boxy grin on his face.

“You can’t catch me, samchon-ah!~”

Cute. Wait, samchon? (Uncle)

The young boy was just about to run faster when he suddenly stopped when he saw someone else.

“Appa-nim!” he shouted, before hopping towards a man who was also silently watching them.

“Min Ji-ah!” he called back, and catching the boy in a warm embrace. Now this was a more curious sight to see. You didn’t fail to notice how the two of them looked exactly like each other. This explains a lot.

“Taehyungie!” the man calls and waves to the man from the cinema, who was now slowly making his way towards them.

“Thanks for taking care of Min Ji today.”

“No problem, Jiminie. Just deposit the payment later,” he responds, earning an “Aish!” and playful kick from the other one.

“What do you say, Min Ji? Should we go fetch your Eomma now?” The dad asks, and Min Ji nods quickly with a big smile. “Coming, Taehyung-ah?”

“Haha, maybe next time. It’s family night after all!” he winks at his friend. “Min Ji, make sure your dad doesn’t do anything funny, okay?”

“Okay, samchon-ah!”

You watch as the father and son walk towards the exit. Meanwhile, Taehyung, turns to your direction, and seems to be walking towards you.

Uh-oh. Y/n, stay calm. He’s probably just headed the same way. Your heart continues to beat faster as he comes nearer. Look away, don’t be awkward, look away, don’t be awkward, look away, don’t be—

“Hey,” he stops right in front of you and you force your best smile (which probably looks like a grimace and you hope he doesn’t tell the difference). His voice sounds deep yet so nice, you could probably listen to it all day.

“H-hi,” you stammer, unable to look at him directly.

“What were you doing?” he asks.

“Huh?”

“I saw you staring at us.”

Oh, fudge. “I-I wasn’t r-really—“

He takes another step closer to you and leans forward. “It’s rude to stare, don’t you know?”

You take a step away from him, before waving your hands frantically. “I wasn’t staring… I was just…admiring the view!”

He looks around and frowns at you. “There’s no other view. Besides, my friend is married.”

You don’t stop yourself from lightly slapping your own forehead. “No. I was talking about the young boy. He was adorable.”

“Well, I get that a lot.”

“What?” you scoff, not believing his sudden confidence.  And that’s when you heard his angelic laugh, and you tried all you can not to coo, or melt on that spot.

“I was kidding. Min Ji does look cute, just like his father.”

You reply with a slow nod and half a smile.

“But I am cute too, right?” he continues.

“Yeah…you are.” He flashes that boxy grin at your reply, and you wish the heat in your cheeks would go away.

“Taehyung,” he reaches out his hand for you to shake. You also introduce yourself.

“So, did you really like the movie?” he asks enthusiastically as you both walk out of the movie house.

Maybe watching alone wasn’t so bad after all…But you guess don’t have to do that anymore.
