Chapter 1: Glimpse

Chapter Text

"How is he?"

A foreboding silence. This soft hums of the machines, a distant banging of metal, a far cry for help only heard. It didn't help ease his feelings about the situation. He didn't know how to answer the question.

"Docile."

A nod, a hum, and they both turn to the student just behind the glass. Honestly, he is the calmest one of the rescued.

"This one is calm. Not to say that that's bad but it's odd."

"Better than the other 3 at least."

"You'd expect that he would be the wildest one, considering...."

"....yeah."

Another silence, as they just observed the blond. Most likely unconscious, but the small sparks around his body seem to say otherwise. It's weird how the glass seemed slightly foggy, yet you could clearly see the frost coating the other side. Small burn marks here and there, most likely from the initial outburst when this happened. The bed is charred on only one side, linings of frost covering the linen of the other.

"And the others?"

He sighed, expecting this question but not knowing how to answer it.

"All of them tried to escape one way or another. So far, the green one seemed to be the most successful, able to step out of her.... Room. She apparently stuck to the ceiling while invisible, waiting for us to check on her if the suspicious stains were to go by. She also injured a lot of the guards. Those green orbs from her hair stuck to some of the guards' clothes then in exploded."

"I'm guessing you managed to detain her?"

"It was difficult, and we had to call a few pros to stop her. But we managed to push her back into her room."

"Clever girl. She almost got it."

"Are you actually encouraging this?"

"I'm just commenting on her plan. It was good."

"...right."

Another second or two, and he continued to talk.

"The red one, he's still trying to escape using brute force. He uses his extra limbs to attack every corner of the room by jumping around. He managed to crack the glass using his tail, but it didn't break. We were right to make that one room with stronger materials than normal. I don't think it would hold soon. Whenever we deliver the food, he is able to turn his other limbs into material similar to the walls and glass. We're looking to get him transfered to a much much stronger room."

Their talk was slightly interrupted my small flickers of light from behind the glass. Both of them went apprehensive. They both have noticed that his powers are more likely to grow stronger in darkness.

A minute, two minutes, the flickering stopped. Another minute passed, and they both let out a breath once they were sure enough that the lights wouldn't flicker again. They resumed their conversation.

"And the last one?"

"The last one is strange. He uses his speed to run around the room. Sometimes even on the ceiling. Though he used his ear jacks and calves to spread this fume. We don't know what it is but it only happened once, when we had delivered cupcakes added to his food as per his request. He seemed to grow stronger then almost matching the red one, but we didn't wanna risk doing that again. We didn't give him any food he requests from them on, especially if it's sweet."

"I heard he shoots lasers?"

"Bothersome, to be honest."

He didn't elaborate more on that.

"Can you believe that it's been a month since we found them?" he sighed, holding his arms closer to his body. "It feels like yesterday. They're not making progress at all."

"They are." His scarf moved with him as he turned to go back to the labs. "Just not fast enough."

He turned one last look at the blond in the room, still unresponsive, still silent. He sighed, turning to go with his stoic companion.
