Work Text:
“Hey Liz, what did your parents get you when you turned sixteen?”
“They got me a car. Perhaps you’ve heard of it Cooper.”
Coop shoots his colleague a look. “Alan’s already taken care of the whole vehicle part. Which leaves Don and I clueless.”
“Did she ask for anything?”
“Yeah, but Don will kill me if I buy it for her.”
“What the hell did she ask for?” Liz asks, confused.
“A Sig. It’s what I taught her to shoot with, which Don’s still mad at me for.”
Liz chuckles. “I’m pretty sure he had gotten over it. At least until she asked for her own gun.”
“I told her maybe when she’s eighteen and he made me sleep on the couch.”
“I think he’s having trouble admitting his little girl is growing up. I remember what he was like when she was born.”
Coop decides against making any smart ass comments about Don and Liz’s history. He actually likes Liz, unlike the rest of his husband’s ex-girlfriends. “Doesn’t help me figure out what to get her.”
“Does she wear any jewelry?”
“A necklace that belonged to her grandmother. Don only lets her wear it for special occasions though. And she got her ears pierced a couple months ago.”
“That’s your answer then. Ger her a necklace she can wear everyday and matching earrings.”
“Don and I are men. You trust us in a jewelry store?”
“Get her birthstone.”
“Which is?”
Liz sighs at her colleague’s hopelessness. “It’s an emerald. And ask the sales person for help.”
“Thanks Liz. I hope.”
