When she first laid her eyes on Momo, she was instantly enamored with her beauty. Momo was a fantasy right out of her dreams, perfect in every way. From her glossy black hair to her body that belonged to a model, Kyoka couldn't help but stare at her as she walked across the classroom to her seat.
She turned to the guy next to her, a blond who would she later call Denki and asked, “Who is that?”
He turned to the newcomer and smiled, “Don’t know but she’s hot .”
Kyoka’s eyes fell back to Momo. The light coming from the window was on her making her skin glow like an angel. Momo had just finished setting down her bag when she finally looked up and their eyes locked. Kyoka felt her face starting to burn as the girl smiled warmly and waved. Perhaps she was an angel. And Kyoka was so so gay.
Kyoka raised her hand and waved back, returning a smile. She turned back to the boy next to her and smiled as she held out her hand, “Jiro Kyoka, you?”
He took the hand, grinning enthusiastically, “Kaminari Denki.”
“By the way,” Kyoka leaned in so that he could hear the following words loud and clear, “I call dibs on the hot girl.”

It didn’t take long for Kyoka to overhear the rumors from the others, about Momo. She was someone from an extremely rich family and had gotten into the academy through recommendations. It was barely the first week of classes and she was already deemed to be an unattainable star. Surely, a supermodel prodigy like Momo wouldn’t be interested in Kyoka, an average girl who had gotten into the academy by sheer luck. So she vowed to herself that she’ll never act on her feelings.
The two quickly became friends, best friends even, and as time went on, her feelings for Momo only seemed to grow. With every passing second, it was as if Momo was more perfect than the last. And as the days of training to become heroes came by, Momo only proved herself to be as phenomenal as the rumors said. Her quirk and her intelligence were a powerful pair and she was able to get through any situation with her amazing skills. It inspired Kyoka to work even harder so she could be the hero she wanted to be and to be as amazing as Momo.
As the months went by, the magic behind the perfection of Momo began to fade and glimpses of her flaws began to flow through her cracks. Momo was insecure and was a sore loser, and it reflected upon every battle she lost. But that didn’t stop Kyoka from loving Momo. To her, flaws and all, Momo was the most beautiful girl she had ever laid eyes on. Even if she didn’t believe it.
One time, after practice the girls were changing back to their uniforms. Momo was nowhere to be seen. Kyoka excused herself from the rest of the girls to look for her friend. She found Momo in a dark corner of the changing room. She was sitting on the floor, her arms wrapped around her legs and crying.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Kyoka asked as she approached Momo.
“I-it’s nothing,” Momo replied as she curled more into herself as if trying to hide, “Go away.”
Kyoka bit her lip. It pained her to see Momo crying as if there was no hope. What happened that could’ve triggered this? She wanted to show support and love, and let Momo know that she wasn’t alone.
She crouched and tucked a loose strand of hair behind Momo’s ear. Momo looked up in shock, her teary eyes sparkling. Kyoka smiled as she leaned forward and hugged Momo. The smell of citrus clogged her senses and she felt dizzy and embarrassed. They had only hugged once before, and Kyoka was so embarrassed at the time that she immediately pulled away. But this time she wasn’t afraid of her love for Momo. For that’s what made their friendship stronger.
“You don’t have to tell me,” she confessed, “But just know, that you’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever met. Not only that but you’re sweet, talented, smart. It’s why I’m head over heels in love with you.”
Momo was silent for a few seconds. All that Kyoka could hear was the beat of her heart pounding in her chest, threatening to burst through. She was frozen, too scared to move, but afraid to keep hugging her friend. And then, she felt arms wrap around her and soft hair press against the side of her face.
“Thank you,” Momo answered.
When they pulled apart, Kyoka laughed awkwardly. She hadn’t meant to confess to Momo about her feelings and Momo had yet to say something back. While Momo was clearly feeling better, there was something else in between them now. Before Kyoka could say or do anything else, Momo cupped Kyoka’s face and leaned in, pressing her lips against Kyoka’s for a short and sweet kiss. When she pulled away, Kyoka felt like she was dreaming.
Momo took Kyoka’s hand and intertwined them, “Thank you, Kyoka, for loving me. Even when I can’t love myself.”

Momo was at the balcony, overlooking the city. The lights in the far distance twinkled like stars. A light breeze was blowing, making Momo’s hair sway in the direction. Kyoka snuck up behind Momo and closed her eyes.
“Guess who,” Kyoka said.
“Very funny,” Momo laughed prying her hands off her face and turning to Kyoka.
Momo pecked Kyoka’s lips before turning back to the city, “I don’t want to go back to school next week. I wanna stay here forever.”
“It’s just one more year,” Kyoka promised, resting her head on her girlfriend’s chin, “And then we’ll be free to have nights like this every night.”
Soft fingers cupped Kyoka’s face, and she heard a sigh, “I was thinking back to our first year when I had that breakdown after gym.”
“I remember,” Kyoka answered. It wasn’t the only time Momo had a breakdown, but it was one of the more significant ones.
“I was in a dark place then, but you supported me through it. Thank you.” Momo turned around and wrapped her arms around Kyoka before pulling her in for a hug.
She still smelled as sweet as she did that time. Only this time, Kyoka felt more comfortable and didn’t feel like she was going to explode. She snuggled into Momo’s embrace.
“I didn’t do anything, you pulled yourself out of it,” Kyoka said. When they pulled apart, Kyoka tucked a strand of hair behind Momo’s ear, “And I’m proud of you for it.”
Momo smiled, tears beginning to stream down her face. It’s amazing how Momo even after 3 years remained to be the most beautiful girl Kyoka’s ever laid eyes on. “Thank you.”
