Work Text:
Rohan stood nervously outside the coffee shop. He almost never felt nervous in this way, usually he could keep it together and hide his nervousness, but today was different. He dressed in his best- well by Rohan terms- his best outfit. A white tunic with white pants and his brown boots and brown gloves to match. He tapped his foot impatiently then checked his watch.
“He’s running late,” Rohan muttered. ‘What if something happened to him? ‘he wondered and then tapped his fingers against his leg, trying to stay subtle. Why was he so nervous? Sure, he hadn’t been on a date in years, but he’s always so calm and collected, at least that’s what Koichi told him. He took some deep breaths and stomped his foot trying to knock his senses back into him. He looked through the window of the coffee shop and saw many customers quietly enjoying each other’s company. “It’s so public, he didn’t seem like that type,” Rohan noted. He presumed with Jotaro’s stoic nature he’d be more private and want something quainter, but he could be wrong after all they had only met a few months ago. “We met months ago, and this is our first date?” Rohan said to himself “I guess my standards shouldn’t be so high.”
“Is something wrong?” A deep voice suddenly spoke, startling Rohan. He jumped and then turned to see his date, Jotaro Kujo. The man in white with his black turtle neck underneath towered over Rohan.
“Jotaro! You can’t just sneak up on me like that,” Rohan complained, his voice cracking.
“I’ve been here for a bit, I thought you would see me through the window,” Jotaro nearly mumbled, he always spoke so low.
“Well I didn’t, and you scared me,” Rohan snarked, but he couldn’t help but feel himself blush a bit knowing he and Jotaro were about to have their first date.
“Sorry,” Jotaro said as he walked forward and opened the door “Let’s head inside, it’s kind of warm out here.”
“We’re both wearing unfit clothing so. . . “Rohan’s voice trailed as he walked in.
Inside the coffee shop was way bigger and even more beautiful, it seemed packed from the outside, but it felt as if more tables appeared. The floor was almost too clean as well as the empty tables, the sound of people talking in low tones rang throughout the place.
“Stay here,” Jotaro told Rohan.
“Huh? Why?” Rohan asked.
“Trust me,” Jotaro replied, he didn’t smile but Rohan felt the reassurance in his voice. Jotaro then strode over to the barista and it looked like the two had a decent conversation, then she began leading him somewhere. “Come on, Rohan,” he called. Rohan nodded and then followed suit.
‘Where are we going?’ Rohan wondered, his mind pondered. He didn’t know this woman, she could do anything to them. Not too long later, though, they reached a door to which the barista opened it and it led to a beautiful back patio. The ground comprised of a cobblestone ground, a single table sat in the middle of the patio, it had beautiful vintage looking red chairs and glass table like you would see in Victorian Century house. It had a beautiful thin black archway ontop with roses intertwined in it along with a small black fence surrounding it. ‘How have I never seen this?’ Rohan wondered as he wore the look of impressed on his face. The barista left and closed the door behind her, leaving the two alone, she said she’ll come back for orders in a moment.
“Do you like it?” Jotaro asked “I paid for the furniture and roses,” he added and hid behind his hat.
“Jotaro,” Rohan began he had to take it all in and process it “It’s beautiful. I had no idea you would be so romantic on a first date.” Jotaro didn’t respond he just walked forward and pulled out a chair to which Rohan sat in it and then the taller man sat himself across from him.
After a few moments of looking at menus and sharing silence and even a bit of chuckling here and there from sharing some crazy stories the barista walked back out.
“May I take your orders?” She asked while getting out a pen and paper.
“I’ll have a caramel latte, please,” Jotaro asked.
“Something sweet? You didn’t strike me as the sweets type,” Rohan teased.
“There’s a lot more you don’t know, Rohan,” Jotaro chuckled with a faint smile.
“Hmmm. . . Fine I’ll also have a caramel latte, please” Rohan asked.
“Okay! I’ll be back with it soon,” the barista said as she walked back inside.
Jotaro and Rohan sat for a bit listening to the birds and cars go by. It was silent, but it was pleasant.
“So, about our first meeting,” Rohan began “It was really strange, I mean my house was on fire and everything. Why did you stay with me?”
Jotaro hesitated before he answered “Well, if the fire spread suddenly and no one was there you could’ve burned to death, I couldn’t let some innocent person die. . . Not again.”
“Again?”
Jotaro lowered his head and crossed his legs. “Ah,” Rohan continued “Tough subject, I guess I won’t pry.” ‘I do wonder what he means, but this is a date not a therapy session,’ Rohan thought. “Well, thanks for waiting with me, it really meant a lot. Even if I do blame your cheating uncle for it.”
Jotaro chuckled “Perfectly reasonable, I suppose.”
Eventually the barista came back with the lattes and set them down in front of the two. Jotaro got out his credit card and handed it to her to pay.
“You’re going to pay now?” Rohan asked.
“Well, yes, if this is all we’re getting,” Jotaro replied.
“What if I want more?”
“Then order now.”
“I’m joking, Jotaro, lighten up,” Rohan giggled “You’re so cute.”
The barista walked off with the card and Jotaro hid behind his hat again, Rohan couldn’t tell if it was from embarrassment or happiness, but it was definitely one of the two. He wasn’t sure how he could feel that but something between the two, that had been there since they met, made Jotaro easy to read to Rohan. He always hears from Koichi and Josuke how Jotaro was always so hard to read but he couldn’t see that, to him it felt like there was some connection from the start that led Rohan to understanding Jotaro’s silent nature. He didn’t understand it but he enjoyed it.
“I think you’re cute as well, Rohan,” Jotaro said as he took a sip of his latte. Rohan nearly spat out his drink but swallowed it quickly.
“Th-thank you, Jotaro,” he said as calmly as he could. Silence fell again for a few minutes until Rohan broke it “So, Jotaro- “he began and gently took hold of Jotaro’s hand “Thanks for doing all this for me, I-I guess. It’s pretty and the most anyone has ever done for me on a first date,” Rohan confessed. He squeezed Jotaro’s hand as he turned his face away because he felt it turning red and warm.
“Hm,” Jotaro said with a small smile and squeezed Rohan’s hand back gently “Anytime.”
Rohan knew that small sentence meant more than it seemed, he could sense it.
“Let’s go on many more, yeah?”
“Sure,” Jotaro said with a smile as they gazed at each other.
