Chapter Text
Bakugo could feel small explosions starting to go off on his palms as he stared up at the tall office building. His teeth clenched together in an attempt to stop himself from screaming as he walked through the glass double doors. The secretary tried to greet him as he walked by, but he just ignored her and walked straight to the elevators. He pressed the elevator call button as angrily as humanly possible and crossed his arms as he waited for it to arrive. The people milling around him gave him strange looks, but he didn’t even notice them. Focusing on not self-destructing caused him to have tunnel vision.
Ding
The elevator doors slid open and Bakugo stomped on, pressing the button for his floor. A small lurch shook the car as it started to travel upwards. Bakugo kept his fists clenched in an attempt to fight the small pops that raced across his palms. This was going to be an awful day.
The elevator let out a soft noise and the doors slid open to reveal a large open area. Bakugo stomped out of the elevator and into the space giving it a quick look around. The ceiling was at least twenty feet high, and large windows let in a copious amount of sunshine. He grumbled once more and continued to walk through the space going off of the directions Aizawa had given him. Go left down the hallway and walk until you see a small set of double doors.
He took in a deep breath before knocking on it a few times; usually, he would have just barged in, but Aizawa had threatened to make his stay longer if he was “disrespectful.” The door swung open just as he pulled his hand away, revealing Deku standing there smiling. Bakugo had to resist the urge to punch his smiling face, instead settling to push past him into the office.
“Hey, Kacchan” Deku said in his usual cheery voice.
Bakugo just grumbled in response looking around at Deku’s fairly large office. It was decorated with mostly All Might memorabilia, but Bakugo spotted a few pieces of merchandise from the other pro heroes in Class 1-A. Deku closed the door walking over to a desk that was pushed against the far wall of the room.
“So how have you been?” He asked trying to avoid an awkward silence. Bakugo finally spoke up letting some of his anger shine through in his voice.
“Stop acting like you’re enjoying this. It’s embarrassing.” He didn’t even turn to look at Deku, instead, analyzing a small button which had “Uravity!” printed across it in bubbly lettering. Deku let out a small laugh in response which only made Bakugo more annoyed. It took all of his willpower not to smash the small button to pieces in his palm. He just slammed it down onto the shelf where it had been displayed.
“Good to know that you’re as excited as I am!” Deku’s voice remained bright and cheery despite Bakugo’s obvious aggression towards him. Bakugo simply clenched his fists and let out a sigh through his teeth. He turned to face Deku, a deep scowl painted across his face as he felt those small explosions on his palms once again, beginning to walk around the office as Deku spoke.
Deku just cleared his throat and kept on going “Well, if you were curious we’re just going to be doing a patrol today, so nothing too interesting.”
“Are you shitting me? I have to spend a month just walking around the fucking city with you? That’s bullshit.” He filled his words with all the anger building up in his body. He heard Deku let out a small sigh as he followed around the room with his eyes.
“I know that this isn’t exactly what you want to be doing Kacchan, but look on the bright side! It will give you some valuable experience, plus I think Todoroki is gonna come on patrol with us today.” Bakugo heard Deku’s voice perk up at the mention of that half-and-half bastard. The idea of having to walk around the city for hours with both of those annoying shits somehow put Bakugo in a worse mood than before.
“How the fuck is having Icy-Hot with us a good thing?” He practically yelled at Deku, but Deku didn’t budge. He had gotten used to Kacchan’s yelling over the years, and now it didn’t even phase him.
“Well, it’ll give you someone else to talk to, plus Todoroki is a good person to have on your team in a fight.” Bakugo watched Deku’s eyes light up as he spoke. His endless optimism filled Bakugo with an infinite amount of annoyance. How could he find anything good about their current situation?
“Can we just get this over with?” Bakugo grumbled avoiding eye contact with Deku. He had too much pride to even think that this might be a valuable experience. Deku let out a small sigh obviously trying his hardest to not let Bakugo get to him.
“Once you put on your costume we can go.” Bakugo turned and left the room to go and get ready. He just wanted this month to pass by as quickly as possible.
Bakugo returned to the office to see Deku and Todoroki sitting together on a small couch in the corner of the room. Deku was smiling brightly as Todoroki blabbed on about something. Bakugo didn’t have the patience to deal with the two of them, not today.
“Can we go now?” He spat out at the two boys sitting on the couch. Deku practically jumped at the sound of Bakugo’s voice his face growing a bit pink. Todoroki calmly stood up behind him his face void of emotion
“It’s good to see you Bakugo,” he said, his voice calm. Bakugo had to resist the urge to punch him in the face.
“Shut it Icy-Hot” He growled out crossing his arms across his chest. Deku gave him a small laugh in response and Todoroki just rolled his eyes. Thus began their first day on patrol together.
The trio walked down the busy city streets keeping their eyes peeled for any sort of danger. Bakugo walked a bit behind Todoroki and Deku who seemed to be in their own world. The blonde boy tried to ignore the incessant chatter and laughter coming from in front of him, instead focusing on the city around him. Everything appeared to be normal enough, annoying people doing annoying things in a loud and annoying city. Bakugo was so busy soaking in his anger that he almost didn’t notice that Todoroki and Deku had stopped in front of him. For a moment he got excited thinking maybe they had spotted something for him to murder, but in reality, they were posing for a picture with one of their “fans”. Bakugo let out an audible grumble at the fact that they had somehow gained a small following already.
He watched as the teenaged girl gave them a small thanks before rushing away giggling. Deku gave her a bright smile and waved goodbye. The sight made small explosions erupt in Bakugo’s tightly closed fist. For some fucking reason, Deku was a successful and popular pro-hero before Bakugo had even managed to get his license. The fact that Bakugo had allowed himself to lag so far behind him filled him with an indescribable amount of anger. He had allowed himself to slip up and now he was paying the price. The frustration he held towards himself made him want to punch a wall until his fists were bloody. It wasn’t Deku’s fault, but he was a good target for Bakugo’s pent up anger.
“So Bakugo why are you interning with Midoriya this month?” Todoroki broke Bakugo out of his self-deprecating spiral. He crossed his arms across his chest and avoided eye contact with the slightly taller boy.
“Doesn’t fucking matter” He spat out clenching his jaw tightly. He saw Todoroki give him a slight glare out of the corner of his eye. “I said it doesn’t matter Half and Half!” Bakugo turned to face him lifting one of his hands ready to blow up Todoroki’s face. The other boy sighed quietly before turning back around to continue his conversation with Deku. Bakugo didn’t know if he could deal with these two for a month.
They had been patrolling for about three hours when Deku suddenly stopped, sticking out his arm to signal the other two boys. He pointed to an alleyway on his left and Bakugo followed his arm to see a mysterious figure sitting against the wall. Bakugo got ready to charge in, his hands twitching with anticipation for the approaching fight. Deku signaled for them to walk down the alleyway and Bakugo reluctantly followed him, resisting the urge to jump in head first. He watched as the two other boys prepared themselves for a potential confrontation their gazes intense. Bakugo could now see the figure clearly. He appeared to be digging through a purse that didn’t belong to him.
“Excuse me sir-” Deku spoke up and the figure turned to stare at them. Bakugo saw his eyes widen as he took off down the alleyway dropping the purse in the process. The trio instantly took off after him using their various quirks to increase their speed. The man appeared to have a floatation quirk which allowed him to almost bounce off of the ground. Bakugo was filled with adrenaline as he propelled himself forward with small explosions.
“Shoto! Make a walkway up to the roof of this building!” Deku shouted out an order and Todoroki just nodded in response. He swiftly created a walkway out of ice which the three of them took onto the rooftop of the building to their left. Bakugo watched as the man took a sharp left out of the alleyway and onto the main road. Bakugo just propelled himself further not having to worry much about property damage while running on rooftops. He got slightly ahead of the man and prepared himself for the jump down to the street.
“I’m going down there!” Bakugo barked out as he leaped off the edge of the building. Todoroki grumbled behind him as he softened his fall using large explosions. He landed directly in front of the man and didn’t even give him a moment to react as he propelled himself forward with his left hand and created a flash grenade with his right. The man was stunned for a moment and Bakugo used that opening to deck him in the face hard enough to knock him out. A wide sort of smile appeared on Bakugo’s face as he looked down at the defeated criminal on the sidewalk.
He turned to see Todoroki and Deku coming down an ice slide to the street. Todoroki landed on the sidewalk first and Deku followed close behind. Bakugo watched as Deku slightly lost his footing and basically barreled into Todoroki sending the two of them tumbling onto the ground. Bakugo let out a small chuckle in response as he watched the two of them sit slightly flustered on the sidewalk for a moment before standing up quickly. They avoided making eye contact their faces washed with pink as they walked up to Bakugo. He rolled his eyes at their stupidity as he turned back to the man on the ground.
“Thanks, Kacchan” Deku managed to spit out his voice cracking a bit. Todoroki just stared wide-eyed at the ground a deep blush on his cheeks.
“No thanks to you two incompetent fucks” Bakugo grumbled as he picked up the man’s limp body from the ground. Todoroki quickly secured handcuffs on his wrists as Deku alerted the police of their location. They didn’t speak much until the police arrived to pick up the criminal.
