in all honesty, Hoseok never meant to lure the prettiest boy into a death trap with his singing. he usually lures in old men on sail boats so he has no regrets devouring their souls right then and there. sure, older souls don't taste as sweet, but since they've lived longer he feels more at ease taking their lives from them rather than someone who hasn't gotten a chance to really live yet.

really, he doesn't expect tonight to be any different than any of his other monthly feeding periods. he sits on a small "island" of rocks, he could probably walk around the whole rock cluster in less than five minutes, dipping his bare feet into the water and lets the gentle push and pull of the current lap at his shins. his pink and silver hair shimmers in the moonlight, there's not a cloud in sight, and his silver shorts act as part of his lure for his next meal. you see, a siren's voice is only part of the bait. the sailors, or whoever happens to come wandering in his direction, have to be able to spot him or else they'd end up lost and would eventually drown. meaning that they would be of no use to quench Hoseok's hunger.

so really he thought tonight would be like any other. he'd sing his song, his prey would come wandering, and he'd devour their soul before vanishing into the morning mist until the next feeding period came around. but when he sees a pale skinned boy with jetblack hair swim up to the rocks and start climbing up towards the sound of Hoseok's voice the siren panics. this is a young soul, the youngest soul he might have ever had the displeasure of luring in. Hoseok think this boy can't be older than 22, and suddenly the fear of taking a life away is very prominent at the front of Hoseok's mind. you'd think he would be used to this, and he is, he's beyond thousands of years old, but this boy.

this boy.

Hoseok halts his singing immediately when the pale boy has climbed up onto the rock cluster. is he really supposed to devour his soul? or is he to let him go and stay hungry until the next moonrise? but who's to say he won't be lured here again? and again? until his soul is finally taken away? it is said that a siren's call attracts only the loneliest of souls, so perhaps he would be doing the boy a favor? it doesn't settle the guilt weighing heavy in Hoseok's chest in the slightest.

"hey, was that you singing?" the boy stumbles slightly on his way over to the siren, seemingly oblivious to the danger he's in. more with each passing step. Hoseok glances over at the boy, sensing not fear, but pure curiosity. and still, the siren panics.

"uh-" he coughs, "w-well maybe?" Hoseok's nerves must show on his features because the boy suddenly stops a good meter or so away from him, yet he still doesn't seem afraid. how odd. Hoseok's prey usually are very wary when they come across a mysterious singing boy with pink hair and eyes to match in nothing but silver swim trunks, but this one doesn't seem to mind his appearance.

it must be because of his age. many young people color their hair nowadays, and they certainly dress outrageously too. this must be nothing.

he watches as the boy looks over his shimmery pinkish-silver hair color. they make eye contact, but even then he doesn't flinch away. the boys eyes, full of wonder, linger on Hoseok's for a moment before traveling down his bare chest. the siren can tell he's observing the pink crystal that hangs around his neck. Hoseok calls it his good luck charm, but it doesn't contain any special powers if you were thinking that. he simply came across it one midnight while he was swimming the depths of the ocean and thought it would look beautiful in the moonlight. he was right.

"I'm Yoongi." the pale boy says after he's done examining the siren. "do you have a name?" Hoseok scoffs at this.

"'course I gotta name, why wouldn't I?" Yoongi shrugs and toes at a loose rock before looking back into the pink eyes. the moonlight seems to make them shine brighter.

"dunno, some people prefer not to have one. labels 'n shit."

"know anyone without a name?"

"no, all my friends got names."

"how many friends do you have?"

"just Jin and Jungkook. but I don't see them all that much anymore. after they got married they made friends with more married couples. now they just visit a couple times a year." Yoongi frowns, either in hurt or wariness that he just told all this to a stranger, Hoseok doesn't know. he shrugs it off though and inches a couple steps forward before sitting crisscrossed beside the siren. "so you got one?"

"a friend?" Hoseok thinks that in another life, Yoongi could have been his friend. Yoongi laughs.

"a name." Hoseok's sure his cheeks flush at this. he mentally slaps himself before he gives Yoongi a slight grin. no one's ever asked him his name before, no one's ever asked him anything really before, so it makes his nerves jump a little at someone showing some interest in him. but in a good way.

"Hoseok." Yoongi nods, seemingly satisfied with his answer.

"do you come out here every night? I don't think I've seen you on any of my nightly swims." Hoseok tenses at the reminder of what brought them together this night and he looks away to the water.

"nah, I only come here once a month." he tries to sound as nonchalant as possible, but he's not so sure he's got Yoongi convinced. he seems to be much more observant than he let's on.

honestly, Hoseok doesn't know if it's a good idea to interact with his prey for this long. he's never spoken more than a sentence or two to his victims before taking their souls. maybe it's because for the first time in centuries, Yoongi is the first to not tremble at the mere sight of him. he didn't seem very hypnotized by the song either, not like the siren's past prey. they always approached with fear draped over them like a blanket. but Yoongi. Yoongi doesn't appear to be worried at all, and it sparks something inside the siren. relief? who knows.

Yoongi should most definitely be wary of this pretty stranger with the voice of an angel's choir, but he only seems to be more drawn to him as the minutes pass by.

"you have a very unique voice, I liked your song." he finally says after they've sat for some time in silence, though not awkward, just thoughtful.

"ah, thank you." Hoseok fixes his gaze on the reflection of the moon on the ocean water. he doesn't know how much longer he should let this drag on. should he just get it over with? this is the first real conversation he's had with anyone for centuries. maybe he'll decide to savor it.

"do all sirens have their own song?" Yoongi questions, turning to look at him. Hoseok visibly freezes before snapping his gaze to the pale boy who sits perhaps less than a foot away from him.

"how-" Hoseok stumbles over his words, beyond shocked that Yoongi knows what he is. he knows what he is and he still isn't afraid. but why? "how'd you know?"

"it's not every day you meet someone with the voice of angels and pink eyes." Yoongi giggles. he giggles. what? "I figured I'd take a shot at my assumption. does this mean I'm right?" Hoseok absolutely cannot comprehend right now how Yoongi could possibly be grinning over the fact that he's just stumbled into the trap of quite possibly one of the most dangerous creatures in existence.

"I am." the siren hasn't blinked in a good minute but that's the least of his worries right now. "and you're not, worried?? that a siren called you here?" the pale boy gives a small shrug in response. but Yoongi just shakes his head standing and walking to where the rocks meet the water, and looks out to sea.

"not really, there's worse ways to die, I suppose. if I had to pick then I think I'd rather a pretty boy like you take my soul than anything else. all the other ways seem too harsh."

Yoongi keeps his gaze fixed on how the moon reflects onto the sea. he seems so content like this, the most peaceful anyone's ever been around the siren. it's mind-boggling really, but it's a nice change. Hoseok stares at him for a moment before standing and joining the pale boy's side, and together they watch the gentle push and pull of the current at their feet.
