Surprising Means

Summary:

Them dating was not surprising. Not really. But there was something that had them reeling their heads off. Yes, them dating was not surprising. No, it was actually the fact that Miyuki Kazuya the smart ass, the shittiest person they had ever met, the guy they respected and disliked in way, was actually the affectionate type.

Notes:

Continuation of the previous work. I don't know if I made Kazuya OOC or if he really is this type of boyfriend at a certain given chance since the guy is better at showing his affections rather than saying it. Anyway, I'm such a sucker for affectionate boyfriends.

Work Text:

It wasn’t really surprising news when the team found out about their battery’s true relationship. Well, it wasn’t like Miyuki and Sawamura were hiding it either seeing as they never refuted accusations or avoided questions awkwardly like the team imagined they would. For once Miyuki was less of an ass about in fact. When asked if he and the pitcher are a thing, he’d just smile and answer ‘what do you think?’ As mentioned, just less of an ass. Asking Sawamura would just be a waste of time seeing as they can’t even get him alone. Miyuki would always linger around the boy, which all the more added their list of evidences regarding their relationship.

Dating or not, their interactions didn’t even shift an inch. Miyuki would still mess with the southpaw and the idiot still bites the bait easily that his stupidity became a headache for Kuramochi . The both of them were still touchy-feely as ever that while dating, it never increased like the team thought it would. Honestly, they were prepared for hours of flirting and ogling but surprisingly, both kept it professional and civil when they were in the diamond. Sure, there was the catcher’s arm slinging but that was already a norm whenever he and his pitcher were plotting something to catch their opponents off guard. They were so casual about it that the entire team was on edge in case they do something completely rattling.

“That’s it for the day. Get some rest and prepare for tomorrow, pitchers. We’re gonna do some batting,” Coach Katoaka instructed before the team retires for the night. He glared towards their only southpaw for extra measures, knowing full well he’ll be running around the field until he drops dead.

Eijun jolted at the silent warning and tried to avert his gaze only to meet with Miyuki’s teasing grin. “That was especially for you,” Miyuki snickered as soon they scattered.

Sawamura scowled and shoved him lightly. “Shut up! I’m aware of that!” he grumbled.

“And yet you still go on about it like nobody’s business,” the catcher shrugged. His smile was sly yet his gaze was tender and soft.

Sawamura deflated and pouted. Seeing Miyuki looking at him like that always made him flustered and timid. It sometimes made him do a double take that their captain was capable of such affectionate look but at the same made him smile and happy. Miyuki slung an arm around his neck and pulled him close. To the new first years, it may seem like just a normal bonding touch but to the 3rd years and 2nd years, it was an apparent expression of affection with the way the distance between them was filled. Nothing about the touch was platonic but still innocent all the same with the way their hips were practically glued and Miyuki’s fingers squeezed Eijun’s shoulder.

“Miyuki-senpai,” Miyuki paused, causing Eijun to pause as well. They looked over their shoulder at the same time and found Furuya and Haruichi catching after them. “Can you catch for me today?”

“Hey, Furuya! Coach said to rest so don’t even think about it!” Eijun yelled. Miyuki could only grimace as his eardrums were practically busted in his head. Eijun mumbled an apology before glaring at his fellow pitcher.

Furuya ignored him and continued to wait for Miyuki’s answer. The catcher could only sigh and removed himself from Eijun, much to the heartache of the other. “Listen, I’ve told you this many times and I’ll repeat it just as much. There is always a time for rest and work. Tonight, I’ll advise you to relax your body and tomorrow, come look for me and pitch to your heart’s content. Understood?”

Furuya was silent but his face remained blank. Haruichi watched with keen eyes at the exchange. His gaze wondered to Eijun who was still disgruntled for the dismissal. Furuya only nodded and went pass them with Haruichi following behind. The younger Kominato didn’t miss the way his Captain went to smoothly win Eijun’s attention and good vibe once again. Truth to be told, he had the lingering suspicion that their Captain only denied Furuya because he wanted to spend more time with the southpaw but he thought better of it.

They may have been dating but that didn’t mean Miyuki will let it cloud his decisions as a Captain and a catcher, and even Furuya seemed to be aware of that since he didn’t put too much of a fuss about it. Haruichi was certain that Eijun won’t allow it either considering he always want Furuya in top form. After all, those two didn’t enter a relationship without weighing the pros and cons and the effects of it to their performance. As harsh as it sounds, when it comes to pitching Miyuki will choose to catch for Furuya instead of Eijun regardless of their relationship and although it pains Eijun to accept that, it also meant that he still had a long way to go before Miyuki acknowledged him as a whole.

Sawamura was just back from the bath and was ready to take it easy by either doing his homework or playing a bit of videogame when there was a sudden knock on the door. He checked the clock incredulously, it won’t be until 11 before Kuramochi comes back and Asada was probably still doing his laundry. He wondered who else could be free aside from himself until the door opened and revealed his boyfriend.

“Hm, I see you’re still up,” Miyuki invited himself in and went to take the towel Eijun had around his neck.

“Hey—“ the pitcher’s protests died when the elder dropped the towel on his head and proceeded to dry his hair. “What are you doing here?” Sawamura grumbled.

“I’m making sure you’re actually following the instructions given to you unlike our Monster-rookie,” Miyuki answered as he continued to ruffle those thick brown locks between the towel.

“Furuya?! That bastard is pitching again?” He seethed with fists clenched. “Just when he was told not to do, too!”

“Speak for yourself,” Miyuki commented flatly. “If I remember correctly, there was that bullheaded first year who’d run even if there was a downpour and snow…” Eijun flinched at the implication and went to fiddle with his fingers.

“Mn, I wonder who could that idiot be…” he rolled his eyes away from those twinkling hazel pair and stared at the ceiling warily.

“I wonder too,” Miyuki hummed tauntingly. “Anyway, Furuya is doing some batting with Yui since Ono refused to catch for him too and Okumura wanted to retire early or else he’d leave the dining hall later than usual tomorrow at breakfast.” Miyuki could already imagine his junior gagging and forcing his food down, too worn out to eat properly.

“Ah, are you trying to give them the impression of a model captain? It’s creepy.” Eijun snickered, eyeing his catcher slyly.

Miyuki smirked mischievously and pulled the southpaw’s head down with both ends of the towel before crouching down to meet his eyes. Eijun’s cheeks flared when he was met by Miyuki’s soft eyes. Honestly, he can never get used to it no matter how many times he sees, and he’s pretty sure the bastard himself is aware of its effects to him. Evidences of that, now. Miyuki’s warm gaze languidly dissolved into a maliciously look as he pulled Eijun down on the bed with him.

“Well, I’m just doing my job as a captain by looking after my teammates.” He murmured a breath’s away from Eijun’s lips, his strong arms smoothly circling their way around the pitcher’s waist. “Am I doing it right?”

Eijun hummed thoughtfully as he narrowed his eyes towards his grinning captain. He shifted carefully so his elbow’s not digging on Miyuki’s abdomen anymore. He flatly said, “Dunno, there’s something you haven’t done yet,” he meaningfully pressed.

“Haha, is that so…” Miyuki laughed mockingly before craning his head upward and pecked his pitcher’s petulant lips. It was just a simple and playful peck that Eijun can’t help but grin when they pulled away, it also doesn’t help that Miyuki was wearing the same dopey smile.

“Bluah, you too are disgusting to look at,” both calmly looked over Sawamura’s shoulder and their shortstop leaning against the door with a bat in hand. He wore disgusted scowl on his face as he strolled in to gather his clothes. Despite his words, Miyuki and Eijun just rolled on their side and eyed Kuramochi.

“Heh, we kept the door open if that’s what you’re making a fuss about,” Miyuki let his head fall on his side and grinned at the shortstop.

Kuramochi scoffed and took his shirt off and turned on his back. “Don’t care,” he dismissed off-handedly.

Frankly speaking, everyone was pretty much aware of how innocent the battery’s relationship is. He could even bet that anything heated never crossed in their baseball filled heads. Though, that doesn’t make their innocent interactions less nauseating, especially witnessing it firsthand. It’s not because they’re both of the same sex, mind you. It’s more of because the very image of Miyuki all putty was repulsive and sickening to look at that not even Shirasu can stand it. Kuramochi could care less about them going at it till dawn or something so long as they’re both serious in their relationship, it doesn’t affect the team, and most importantly it, they know when and where to be physically passionate. They’re not ravaged animals, damn it!

“I thought you’d be back by 11 or something, senpai,” Sawamura questioned, his eyes focused on the clock displayed in his phone screen.

“Zono wanted to keep going but I remembered that I still have a test tomorrow,” his eyes were on the catcher as he said this.

“That’s no good!” the southpaw suddenly berated, wide-eyed. “Coach won’t put you in the roaster if you fail in your academics, senpai,” he threw a nasty look towards his boyfriend. “That goes for you too, Miyuki Kazuya!”

“I really don’t want to hear that from you,” Miyuki and Kuramochi grimaced simultaneously. Miyuki grunted when he was suddenly pushed out of the bed and rolled down the floor with his boyfriend looking directly at him with a grim look on his face.

“Go head back to your room and study, Miyuki Kazuya!” the pitcher instructed manually. “It’d be a problem if you can’t play in our games, not that Ono-senpai is not good or anything. Yui still has a lot to learn and Wolf boy is not yet in the first string so he won’t catch my pitches!” Sawamura counted but his rants were reciprocated by deadpan stares from his seniors. Kuramochi mechanically turned to the catcher as if to say ‘why are dating him again?’

“SENPAI, ARE YOU LISTENING?!” If they hadn’t, they surely are now. Miyuki snapped out of his stupor and observed Sawamura’s pouting expression.

‘Ah, he’s blabbering again,’ Miyuki thought dazedly as he watched the way the southpaw’s lips open wide and his eyes brighten like a child’s curiosity does.

“Whatever, I’m heading to the baths,” Kuramochi grumbled and threw his towel over his shoulder. He gave them another warning look before closing the door behind him.

“MIYUKI KAZUYA, YOU’RE NOT LISTENING!” Sawamura screamed in annoyance, cheeks red from rage and hands fisting the edge of the bed in frustration.

Miyuki can’t help but laugh. “Cute,” he muttered and he relished the embarrassed flush rising to those sun-kissed cheeks. Eijun’s expressions never failed to impress him, especially since the guy was such a sucker for praises. He got up from the floor and cupped Eijun’s cheeks. “I’m listening,” a lie but it’s not like he’ll get called on it. Not since he covered Sawamura’s loud mouth with his, easily dropping a kiss before he could protest.

Eijun’s next words were muffled as Kazuya pushed a little harder and tilted his head gently, leading the kiss naturally. The pitcher’s shoulders relaxed and he let out a sigh, wide eyes fluttering close softly. Kazuya caressed his cheeks slowly and let their lips mingled, moving languidly and sensually that would surely leave their lips tingling for more. When he pulled away, they were both flushed and panting softly. The devious catcher chuckled before straightening up.

“Goodnight,” he bid just as reached the door and exited the room. “Hah, how did I get so lucky…” he asked himself, walking down the hall. For once, he was oblivious of the tight smiles put up by the members practicing their batting in front of the dorms.

Miyuki Kazuya is a self-centered, egoistical, annoying guy with a personality contradicting his good looks. That’s why of all people, he was the least they expected to be the sap between the two.
