Work Text:
Rain falls with a vengeance from the sky, unrelenting and determined to soak everything it can touch. It’s late and the sun had set hours ago, taking the temperature down with it. The streets were quiet, empty save for a few late night stragglers, rushing to get out of the downpour. The rest of the city’s residents tucked away in their homes, warm and dry, many curled up in their beds, sound asleep, safe from the chill that was now running down Kirishima’s spine, as he ran to get to his own safe haven.
He was supposed to be home hours ago, while the sun was still up. But things had gone so very wrong, the entire event leaving him chilled to the bone. He wanted to get home, back to the warmth and safety of his apartment before he had to face tomorrow. It was going to be another long day tomorrow, no rest for the weary.
But for now, he needed to get warm.
He had made a mad dash for the apartment, slipping inside and shaking off like a wet dog, soaked from head to toe, normally spiked hair, slicked flat down against his face. It wasn’t a long walk up the three flights of stairs to his shared apartment, finding the door unlocked as he reached it.
It was a bad habit of theirs to leave the door unlocked when waiting for the other to come home. It’s not like they had anything worth protecting in the apartment, save for a few sentimental items here and there and some tech that really needed to be updated. They were happy with what they had and that was enough.
Kirishima closed and locked the door behind himself, dead bolting it as well before kicking off his shoes, and making his way to the bathroom, quiet as possible. The lights were off and the telltale sounds of snoring came from the bedroom. It wasn’t surprising, considering it was nearing three in the morning.
Bakugou always had kept a steady sleep schedule.
Exhaustion set in his bones and now that he was home, Kirishima’s energy was quickly beginning to dwindle.
Ignoring the weight of his eyelids, the redhead detoured into the bathroom, stripping himself of the wet clothing before rinsing off under the hot spray of the shower. It felt good against his aching muscles and he could stay there all night.
But the bed sounded far more appealing.
Leaving the shower he dried off, wrapping his towel around his waist to meander back to the bedroom. It was completely dark, but he knew the layout well enough that he didn’t have to risk waking Bakugou by turning on the lights. He rummaged through his half of the closet, grabbing a pair of sweats and an old, ratty t-shirt, changing into them. Despite the warmth of the apartment and his now dry clothes, Kirishima was still cold. One glance at the bed, where his partner slept soundly, wrapped in blanket after blanket and he decided to give in and climb in beside Bakugou.
Warmth enveloped him, the blankets now sitting heavy on his shoulders as he sidled closer to the blonde, letting a lazy arm slide over his waist as he pressed up against his back. Bakugou’s breathing shifted from slow and heavy to light and a tad quicker. No doubt he was awake now. With little worries of waking Bakugou up now, Kirishima even pressed his cold toes against Bakugou’s calves.
“Tch, you’re cold, get off of me.” HIs voice was low and scratchy due to sleep.
Neither of them made an attempt to move though, Kirishima instead burying his face against Bakugou’s neck, relishing in the warmth and the faint scent of cinnamon.
“You’re late too.”
This time Kirishima shrugged, closing his eyes. “No work talk, not now.” He whispered, hand trailing down Bakugou’s arm, reaching for his hand, intertwining their fingers.
Bakugou radiated warmth, all the time and even if his personality was abrasive and he was loud and foul-mouthed; here at home, he was warm and generally quiet. Not all the time. He’d mellowed out throughout the years, had warmed up to the idea of longer periods of contact, of Kirishima curling up against him during the night, even on their rare days off together.
“Whatever, you owe me dinner still.”
A smile spread across Kirishima’s face as Bakugou settled back down, pressing back against his partner, squeezing his hand once before going back to sleep again.
In the morning, Kirishima woke alone, nothing out of the ordinary. He glanced at the clock, he had an hour or more to sleep and he could hear the shower going in the bathroom, see the light seeping through under the door. The rain was still falling hard outside and he knew eventually he’d have to go back out there, but for now, he rolled over, onto Bakugou’s side of the bed, where it was still warm.
It didn’t take long to fall asleep again.
