Chapter 1: Year One + A bad start on Year Two
Chapter Text
Yoongi wrung his hands inside the sleeves of his robes, but his face betrayed none of his nervousness. He couldn't, not with his parent and older brother right beside him. He was glad he had finally manage to keep his metamorphic abilities under control or his nervousness would quickly be revealed by a change of hair or eye color.
They stood quietly on platform nine and three quarters, his parents talking pleasantly with another couple. Yoongi felt that his brother was itching to go find his friends on the train, but he was probably holding back for Yoongi's sake which he felt immensely grateful for.
It was Yoongi's first year. He had gotten his letter this summer, acting as calmly as his parents expected of him, before squealing into his pillow a few minutes later. It hadn't been unexpected, his magic had been presents since he was born and he had bright blue hair that was pink by the end of the day.
"Yoongi, come on. Get on the train," his father pushed him towards the scrambling students in front of the train.
Right now, his hair was a normal black-brown and same with his eyes, because then he looked most like his parents and brother.
He swallowed, but kept strong and dragged his trunk after his brother, his animal cage in the other hand.
"We love you, our little Slytherins!" His mother shouted after them, as if to make him less nervous and more loved, but it did nothing for him. If anything, it made everything worse.
When inside the train his brother let him follow him for a little while, but it turned out he was looking for an empty compartment.
"Here," he smiled, pushing Yoongi's trunk on top of the baggage rack, "I know you like your peace and quiet."
Yoongi only moved past his brother and sat down next to the window.
"I'll see you when you're sorted, yeah?" he grinned at him, waiting for Yoongi to reply from the doorway.
Not able to hold his facade around his brother completely, he smiled nervously which dropped completely when he left, closing the door.
He spent the entire ride alone, but that could have something to do with the glare he had sent anyone even thinking about opening his door. Most of it was spent sleeping or reading, petting his little cat whenever he felt particularly anxious, really wishing he had his music with him. His parents had forbidden him from bringing anything of his music stuff with him, saying it was useless muggle trash and he would be bullied if any of his future housemates found it. But without it he felt anxious, nothing to sooth his fired nerves. He didn't think it was useless trash, the muggles were pretty smart actually.
When they arrived at Hogsmead, Yoongi followed the other first graders after the giant man into boats.
Yoongi really didn't like this whole sorting thing. Why should eleven-year-olds have to choose friends and loyalty because of an old hat thought they'd fit there.
He didn't know where he'd belong, but he had a feeling he probably wouldn't be put in Slytherin. And that scared him.
"Min Yoongi!"
"Hello, Min Yoongi," it spoke inside his head.
Yoongi waited, wondering if it was expecting him to answer.
"Not really, not needed you see."
Yoongi scrunched his nose in annoyance.
It seemed to almost laugh, which confused him because it didn't have any vocal-cords?
"Slytherin Mins," the hat paused.
Yoongi swallowed, unsure where this was going.
"You want to be sorted into Slytherin? ... No, but you think you do. Haven't had a Min that didn't value the Slytherin's traits for generations, but you have had outside influence during your childhood, haven't you?"
You don't really want to be sorted there, you want to be yourself and you can't be that in Slytherin. Most patient and hard working, wishing for peace and quiet. The genuine Min Yoongi fits better in-"
"HUFFLEPUFF!"
Yoongi stiffened, not that he didn't like Hufflepuff, but it had been better to be sorted into Ravenclaw, or hell, even Gryffindor. Ravenclaw was what the last Min that hadn't been Slytherin was sorted into, and even if Gryffindor was their house's rival it encouraged strength and leadership. Now, Yoongi didn't feel like it was anything wrong with Hufflepuff, he had always admired their values, but his parents-
Oh god.
With shaky legs he moved to the yellow-clad table. Most were clapping, but the few that knew of his last name looked at least a little shocked, which was why he didn't dare move his graze to the Slytherin table.
During the whole of dinner one person spoke to him, trying to spark up a conversation that quickly failed at Yoongi's unwillingness to continue it. And apparently that put everyone off from trying to approach him.
Yoongi cried himself to sleep three months later. First of December and his parents had told him not to come home for Christmas this year. His brother looked very apologetic when he had found out, offering to stay with him, but Yoongi couldn't bring himself to take away his brother's happiness because of his own selfishness.
His brother had actually been responsible for every bit of happiness he had experienced those three months. When his housemates scuttled away in fear or ignored him, his brother was the only one talking to him. And when the older boys of Slytherin found him to be an easy target for tripping and pushing, his brother was quick to pick up on it and intimidate them into stopping. There was some advantages to having Head Boy as a brother, even if some Gryffindors struggled to accept a Slytherin Head Boy.
So he assured him that he had a friend who was staying as well, and he had planned to stay over for the vacation anyways. Albeit hesitant, Yoongi managed to convince him and that was that.
Therefore, on Christmas Day, Yoongi played alone in an abandoned hall with the mini piano his brother had gifted him. It was an enchanted little thing that fit in his lap and sounded beautiful. He had teared up after unwrapping his only present alone in the dorm, feeling so grateful to his hyung.
He was actually smiling quite brightly then, snuggled in one of his larger sweaters to keep the cold out, tapping the keys and making melodies. A fine part of staying at Hogwarts, fewer people and even fewer expectations.
The notes traveled down the hall. He wasn't a master in any music, but he had played the piano for a while. Keys clicked and he bobbed his head to keep rhythm, feeling happier than he had at home for a long time and all that missed was his brother by his side.
Next semester brought him a little too much attention. Without meaning to, he had gotten in trouble with the head of Gryffindor, being accused of cheating and skipping class, when he knew for a fact that it had been the Gryffindor that copied off him. Yoongi had let the student copy him so that he might get a friend or at least someone to talk to. But, apparently he had been caught and blamed Yoongi for copying. Also, it wasn't really his fault for getting locked inside a broom-closet at different occasions that kept him from attending class. However, he wasn't really a person who enjoyed confrontations or arguments, and had therefore held his tongue and taken the punishments quietly.
Truly an outcast now, he kept silent and shied away from people more than they did of him. The older students called him a brat and disrespectful, especially his fellow housemates. And the other first years feared him or scorned him.
At the end, after finishing the exams, he was largely looking forwards to getting away.
Summer was not his favorite season, but it meant peace and quiet, even if it was just as lonely as the crowded hallways of Hogwarts. His parents had allowed him back home, but they didn't seem to really notice that he was there at all and his brother was celebrating his graduation by backpacking with his friends.
One thing he hadn't counted on was meeting a familiar face in the forest around their mansion the second day home.
Taehyung was a muggle boy two years younger than him. They had met while he was playing in the same forest when he was 8. The little boy was full of knowledge that Yoongi had never heard of and filled him in on what kind of music he liked and even gave Yoongi an mp3-player for his tenth birthday filled with songs that Taehyung loved, it was still one of the best gifts he had ever received (the piano from his brother another one). His parents didn't know, he could never tell them.
Taehyung was ten now, or turning ten at least, and Yoongi had for the first time since last summer someone to play with. They played all summer, Yoongi even got to visit the younger's house and meet the most kindhearted couple thinkable. Every second he could spend away from the large and lonely home he grew up in he did. They played in the deep forest and Yoongi started to teach Taehyung how to play piano with his little instrument.
Maybe this was the outside influence the hat had talked about.
As the summer came to an end Yoongi regretted to inform his only friend that he had to go away for school this year too and would not see him before next summer. The younger had been sulky the whole day, but figured quickly out that he had to make the most of it while he still had Yoongi there.
On the last day Taehyung gave him back his mp3-player that he had filled with new music for the long stay and hugged the older tightly. As Taehyung mumbled how much he was going to miss him into his shoulder, Yoongi reveled in the skinship knowing it was the last for a long while, and he nodded against Tae's cheek. He was going to miss his only friend too.
~~
At King's Cross he was left quickly, it seemed like his parents were afraid of other pureblood families catching them with a Hufflepuff child. A feeling of dejavu fell over him as he wrung his hands inside his robes. Only this time he didn't have his older brother there to help and protect him. He knew his eyes had turned a paler brown, his anxiousness making itself known in his features.
Yoongi boarded the train with his trunk and cat, finding an empty compartment like last time, only this time no one even took a look inside the whole ride. But he had his music.
The sorting went by quickly and Yoongi really just wanted back into his dorm where he could draw for the curtains and be alone again, truly. While he was alone at the table - everyone from his class keeping a good distance from him - he just wanted away from the stares.
As soon as it was acceptable to leave, Yoongi hurried out of the hall and down to the basement. Instead of walking right to the entrance of his house, he turned left to a large portrait of a fruit bowl and tickled the pear which opened the door to the kitchen. He hadn't eaten anything at the feast, put off by his emotions and the people watching him.
A house elf had shown him once in March last semester. It had found him locked inside a closet. He had missed breakfast, lunch and dinner because of it and the house elf was worried as the students health was important.
Now several of the little workers were accustomed to his presence and always found his favorite dishes when he showed his face. They seemed surprised to see him as the feast wasn't even done yet, but they just seated him on a tiny chair with some dishes and drink around him.
Yoongi smiled with his gums showing, thanking the workers who only hushed him, not used to or expecting praise.
Almost two months into the semester, Halloween was approaching and this year it seemed his bullies was planning something bigger than a tip down the stairs. However, this time they wore a familiar yellow around their necks.
They had dowsed him in a sticky substance that he figured out was pumpkin-juice, roughed him up a little and removed most of his clothes, including his yellow tie - sneering that he didn't deserve it - before shoving him in a dark, small room, quite original. The door locked behind their laughed. "Go back to Slytherin, fucking traitor!"
He sat there in his soaked previously white shirt, boxers and socks, freezing in the dark, alone. And suddenly he couldn't hold his emotions.
Sobs pushed themselves out of his mouth, choking his breath and filled the tiny room. The tears quickly followed, welling up in his eyes before running down his cheeks. His emotions overwhelmed him, the loneliness, the coldness. No one liked him, and he hadn't even done anything. Maybe Yoongi should have smiled more, or laughed more, maybe he should have insisted on getting placed in Slytherin. He wasn't meant to be in Hufflepuff, they didn't want him there, but Slytherin wouldn't want him either. He wasn't a Slytherin. No one wanted him. He was truly alone, not even his parents wanted him anymore.
He curled around his legs, trying to keep the autumn chill out, and buried his face into his knobbly knees.
He was actually crying loudly, the type of sobbing that ruined your throat and made you exhausted, but he couldn't stop. He had held it in for a year, all the doubts and criticism inside his head that he had ignored, forcing himself to believe none of it was real. People didn't hate him, they just didn't know how to talk to him, they didn't look at him with disgust, his housemates just felt he could do better in Slytherin, and the Slytherins just thought he should have been sorted into their house. It was what he told himself, but it wasn't true.
He shouldn't even be at Hogwarts. He wasn't welcome there.
The thought brought another wave of anguish over him. All his childhood everything he had ever dreamed about was starting at Hogwarts and learn magic. Get friends his own age and maybe even play quidditch. Now that dream was crushed, mocking him for his failure, scorning him for ever wishing for something that was apparently so unattainable. He didn't even belong there, he wasn't fit to have friends and he certainly would never be accepted into their quidditch team. He should have been born a squib.
His wails bounced back at him from the close walls, making him feel as if they were screaming at him, ridiculing him even when he was alone. And it made him curl up further.
Chapter 2: Year Two Is Looking Up!
Chapter Text
Namjoon loved Hogwarts. His mother had told him hundreds of stories of her time there, both him and his father avid listeners. However, being there himself, exploring the castle, reading in the library, walking the grounds, it was everything he had ever hoped.
Ravenclaw wasn't the house his mother had been in, but he liked it. The tower was airy and the door's riddles kept him entertained. His housemates were okay, even if some of them were 'know-it-all's. But he had found friends outside his house that he treasured more.
Hoseok was another first year in Hufflepuff. The energetic kid was quick to mingle and seemed to enjoy talking to everyone and everything. He might have been a little too hyper for Namjoon's taste, but the older appeared to have a fondness for the Ravenclaw as Namjoon often found himself shadowed by him. He quickly found out that Hoseok did have a serious and philosophical side to him and didn't mind holding him company when Namjoon wanted to dream and think.
As their friendship grew, Namjoon was introduced to Seokjin. Jin was a third year Gryffindor that Hoseok had befriended while playing with the squid in the lake. Jin was friendly and social, but not as cheerful as the Hufflepuff and Namjoon came to really enjoy the elder’s company. The three of them formed a little group and Namjoon suddenly had friends to back him up and to care for.
One Friday evening, Halloween, the three of them were looking of the perfect room to play card-games in. They weren't too sure about the rules regarding other houses inside the dorms, so they often found themselves in the library or the grounds to hang out. That day it was cold and raining, almost snowing, so the grounds were out of question, and since they never managed to stay quiet while playing cards they couldn't go to the library.
Namjoon had three blankets thrown over his shoulders - taken from his common room, and Hoseok and Jin had both smuggled food from the table at the Halloween feast. They were planning on having a nice evening to themselves, creeping each other out with horror stories and laughing over lost games.
However, Namjoon quickly changed the plans when he heard sobbing. It was loud in the empty wing they were in, wails and choked breaths filling the corridor and chilling his heart. Had it not sounded so sad, Namjoon might have been scared or suspicious of Halloween pranks, but it did and Namjoon needed to know why someone was forced to make such awful sounds.
The other two had stopped and quickly figured out why.
"Is it a ghost!?" Hoseok moved closer to the oldest, eyes wide.
"No," Namjoon consoled, "It's probably just a student."
"Why would a student sob so horribly," Jin asked, sounding unsure.
"I don't know," Namjoon answered, looking back behind them to a smaller door where they seemed to originate from.
He walked back to the door and tried to open it, but it was locked. He glanced at his elders, who had come closer, but they only shrugged, Hoseok clinging to Jin with a tight grip.
Turning back to the door, Namjoon pulled out his wand and whispered, "Alohamora."
The lock clicked and he was able to push open the door. It was a tiny closet and the light from the candlelit hallways streamed into the room and filled it, but the sobs were louder inside.
Namjoon's breath hitched.
It was a small student, curled into a little ball in the middle of the room. Only wearing a discolored shirt and underwear, he was shaking, from the cold and his sobs. His hair was pale mint and curled, half wet. Namjoon's brain was quick to react and pulled one blanket from his shoulder to quickly drape over the other boy's shoulders before tucking the rest around his bare legs.
The student was startled, and his head shot up. Namjoon was met with wet, baby blue eyes that didn't match his Asian features, before they quickly shut as another sob forced itself out of his red lips.
"Hey, it's okay," Namjoon tried to sooth. "We'll help you to the hospital wing." He hadn't missed the boy's bruised face.
Jin crouched down next to the boy and brought an arm across his shaking shoulders.
"I'm Jin, and this is Namjoon and Hoseok, we're alright, not going to hurt you, yeah?"
Hoseok came closer at the mention of his name and leaned down by Namjoon, smiling brightly if he were to look up.
It seemed to backfire slightly as when the boy looked up again at Hoseok, he shrunk further into himself.
Fearing it was because of them surrounding him, Namjoon pulled Hoseok back and they stepped over to the door, leaving Jin close to the boy.
"Hey, what's your name?" Jin tried, but the boy only shook his head frantically and the three boys watched with shock as the mint hair paled further into pure white.
Fearing a jinx, Jin used all his might to bring the boy up into his arms, "We're taking you to the hospital wing, don't worry. No matter what's been done to you I'm sure mister Sejin can fix it."
He didn't struggle but continued to sob into Jin's shoulder.
Three pairs of shoes hurried across the castled, dodging the few students milling around. Namjoon had moved the blanket to cover the nameless boy completely as to not bring attention to him.
"Mister Sejin!" Jin panted as soon as they entered the large hall of the school hospital. A man in his early thirties quickly made his way out of his office at the shout and instructed Jin to put the boy on one of the empty beds. Only one other was filled by a puking student, otherwise it was empty.
"We don't know what's happened, but he's bruised, and his hair changed from blue to white, I swear!" Namjoon explained quickly.
The man, Sejin, removed Namjoon's blanket and paused.
"Oh Yoongi-ya," he sighed sorrowfully, brushing his hand though the shock-white strands, getting a better look at the boy's face.
Namjoon registered Hoseok's gasp to the left and gave him a questioning look.
"It's okay guys, thank you for bringing him," Sejin tried to remove them from the wing, but Namjoon paused.
"But his hair…"
"Don't worry, Yoongi's a metamorphmagus, his emotions got control over those powers and acted accordingly. It's nothing serious, so you'd better be on your way," Sejin ushered them out of the wing, leaving no time for them to process his words, closing the large doors behind them.
Immediately Namjoon rounded on Hoseok, "You know him?"
Hoseok was still staring at the closed door, seeming a little lost.
"Hoseok," Jin tried and the boy dragged his eyes away to stare at his friends just as lost.
"That was Min Yoongi," he breathed, eyes wide.
Namjoon frowned, he had never heard that name, but Jin stilled beside him and choked out a few words.
"Real, really?"
"Yeah, I recognized his face, even though he wasn't wearing a tie."
Jin frowned in confusion eyes trailing back to the door.
"I'm sorry, but who is Min Yoongi?" Namjoon was tired of waiting in the dark, and dragged Jin's attention back to them.
"Um, I don't know him, personally. I don't think anyone does to be honest," Hoseok scratched the back of his neck, almost a little confused.
"I heard of him last year when one of my younger housemates accused him of copying their work. Apparently, he got in trouble for skipping classes as well," Jin filled in as well.
"That boy is a troublemaker?" Namjoon asked incredulous. "Who we found in a locked closet beaten up and sobbing?" That didn't match up to any rumour in Namjoon's mind.
"I-, I dont... I don't know?" Hoseok replied unsure. "I've never spoken to him; he's a second year and the rest of my house have told me to keep away from him. Said he's a Slytherin in disguise," Hoseok shrugged helplessly.
"There's nothing wrong with Slytherin," Namjoon pointed out before continuing, "And if the hat placed him in Hufflepuff, then that's it, right?"
Hoseok shrunk a little before Jin came to his defence.
"The Min family are all Slytherins. Yoongi's the first in several generations to not be. His older brother graduated last year, Head Boy Slytherin."
"So? Your mother was a Ravenclaw right?" Namjoon asked, not getting it.
"Yes, but my family has always been a jack of all trades, unlike several other fullblood families."
"Is it even relevant? He's a Hufflepuff, what's wrong with his family being Slytherins?"
The other two went quiet.
"I'm not one to believe in rumuors easily," Namjoon started. "Have you ever seen him act rude or do anything troublemaker-ish?"
Jin shook his head.
"I don't think so. No one really speaks to him, he's always alone, doing his own thing. I once saw him doing homework in an empty hallway and he had this cool mini piano with him," Hoseok remembered.
"So, what you are saying is that Yoongi is a lonely kid, who gets bullied for no reason and people ignore him on a daily basis. I saw a scared and hurt boy in that closet, I don't know where anyone got troublemaker from," Namjoon ranted slightly, feeling sad for this broken kid.
The other two looked completely scolded, shuffling on their feet.
"I'd like to get to know this Min Yoongi, obviously he needs friends, and since his house isn't being what it's supposed to be, I'll be his friend."
"Are you saying we're going to befriend Min Yoongi?" Hoseok asked bewildered.
"Yeah, Hope, aren't you the one willing to befriend everyone? Where did that attitude go?" Namjoon poked, trying to bring forward Hoseok's social tendencies.
Hoseok looked a little startled, before frowning, clearly displeased by himself. "Yeah, yes, I am, you're right, of course. We could expand our group!"
Jin smiled slightly and nodded.
"Great! Then we'll find him tomorrow and invite him to play cards with us!" Namjoon settled, satisfied.
~~
On the next morning, Saturday, Namjoon met the other two at the Hufflepuff table. Hoseok said that Yoongi had left the dorm ungodly early and hadn't been seen since, and he obviously wasn't at the table.
"Hoseok, do you remember which hallway you saw him do homework in?" Namjoon asked, thinking it might be his hideout.
"I think so, I think it was the fifth floor in the west wing," Hoseok recalled, stuffing the last of his toast into his mouth.
"Great, we'll start there," Namjoon concluded.
"Maybe we should bring some food? What if he hasn't had breakfast? And he didn't get dinner yesterday," Jin voiced his concern, glancing at the breakfast table.
"Great idea! We'll pack some sandwiches," Namjoon leaned over to start gathering.
A quarter of an hour later, the three of them were moving down a corridor on the fifth floor, following a quiet piano melody that gave them a hunch on where to go.
Yoongi sat at a desk in an empty classroom, the mini piano that Hoseok had mentioned yesterday was in front of him for him to play. His hair was dark brown now, and the bruising was gone from his face much to Namjoon's relief.
Namjoon startled the boy out of his concentration by stubbing his toe into the doorway and stumbling into the room head first. When he had gathered his bearings, Yoongi was busy packing his stuff together with speed, head low.
"Hi," the Ravenclaw stared, his friends moving into the room as well.
Yoongi didn't answer and only picked up his speed, before giving up and just dragging everything into his arms so he could make a hasty retreat with everything clutched to his chest.
"Hey, wait! We're not throwing you out," Namjoon reassured, walking up to the boy. He was slightly shorter than Namjoon, even if he was a year older. And his eyes were deep brown unlike the unnatural blue they had been yesterday.
The deep brown pools stared at him, they didn't seem scared, just confused and a bit apprehensive.
"We brought you food! Hoseok told us you disappeared before breakfast," Jin voiced from behind Namjoon, raising the food for Yoongi to see.
Yoongi's eyes moved from Namjoon to look at Jin and Hoseok, eyeing their red and yellow uniforms.
Jin took his silence as acceptance, which was probably the best course of action, and moved to Yoongi's desk where he placed the food. "You hungry?"
Yoongi didn't do anything but place his behind back onto the chair and start digging into the sandwiches.
The other three shared some looks with raised eyebrows, Yoongi hadn't even said a word yet.
An awkward silence fell and continued with Namjoon and his friends shifting slightly in front of him, until Yoongi spoke.
He had slowed down his eating and carefully looked up at them again. His eyes shifted again, and suddenly looked just as uncomfortable as them.
"Oh, um," he made a small purring noise at the back of his throat that Namjoon found amusing. "Sorry, thank you," he said quietly, scratching his neck a little shyly.
"No problem! We made it for you," Hoseok smiled brightly.
"Why?" The boy frowned, watching his fingers pick a splinter from the tabletop.
"Because we were concerned that you didn't even get dinner yesterday," Hoseok explained, but Namjoon had a feeling that it wasn't what Yoongi was referring to.
"And we wanted to invite you to play board-games with us. Three isn't a good number when playing, and we thought that food was a good way to bribe you into agreeing," Namjoon baited, feeling like this kid wouldn't like being pitied.
"What are you going to play?" Yoongi seemed to perk up a little.
"We have wizard chess, that these guys never want to play with me, and exploding snap and some muggle games that Hoseok brought, Monopoly and Uno?" He looked back at Hoseok to confirm.
"You got Uno?" Yoongi's eyes went really wide and looked almost eagerly at Hoseok.
"Yeah! Namjoon and Jin hates it because they always lose," he laughed, and Jin made an affronted noise that the others ignored. "You want to join?"
Yoongi nodded a couple of times, happily.
And after that they settled around a few tables and played Uno. Hoseok was the winner, laying a last +4 for Namjoon to pick up with a whine, and Yoongi joined afterwards with a satisfied smile and a little giggle. Namjoon and Jin battled for third place and predictably, Jin lost with loud complaints about fixed muggle games and the other three having fun at the oldest expense.
"How come you know Uno?" Namjoon wondered, he had never played it before and he had a muggle father, Yoongi was a fullblood.
"Um," another purring noise that Namjoon hid a smile at, "I have a muggle friend who plays with me, but it's not as fun with only two people."
"I can see why, that's why we wanted another person to play with," Namjoon smiled, his dimples popping up.
When dinner came around the four packed up and agreed to meet back up in the hall after putting away their stuff.
However, before they left, Yoongi stopped them with a small sound. When he had gotten their attention, he rubbed his arm and introduced himself.
"I'm Min Yoongi by the way."
"Oh! We haven't even exchanged names completely yet," Jin noted in surprise. "I'm Kim Seokjin, but I've always been called Jin, third year Gryffindor."
"And I'm Ravenclaw, first year, Kim Namjoon," he said with a smile.
"I'm first year too, Jung Hoseok, I don't know if you've seen me before, but I'm also Hufflepuff," Hoseok gave a little smile, a bit unsure.
Yoongi seemed surprised, maybe thinking they had heard of the rumours around him. Even if they had, it didn't mean he deserved to be treated badly because of what someone else had said about him. Namjoon took the other boy's arm and dragged him out of the room.
"Come on, I'm hungry."
~~~
Yoongi sat on his bed, the room empty, but he felt anything but.
It had been the best day of the semester. Three complete strangers had played with him all day, and hadn't ever been scared or scornful of him, even after they had learned his whole name. He was pretty sure Hoseok had known who he was, but it hadn't stopped the younger from smiling as brightly at him as he had to the other two.
It was the three boys who had found him in the closet yesterday. He had wondered if they pitied him and that's why they invited him, and even if he figured that that was probably true, it seemed like they had enjoyed his company regardless. They even invited him to eat dinner with them in the hall.
That's why he was seated on his bed, worrying. He hadn't eaten in the Great Hall for over a month. Because of the stares and whisper he had been so turned off from eating that he had struggled with low energy. In the end he had stopped going and instead went to the kitchen whenever he wanted food. And now he couldn't help but think that the three boys would find out it wasn't worth it to befriend him. They would surely get the same stares from his housemates, especially Hoseok, a fellow Hufflepuff. What if the rest of the house decided to start ignoring or hating Hoseok as well? That guilt would surely eat him alive, he'd never want that for another person.
A knock on their door brought Yoongi out of his worries.
"Hey Yoongi, dinner has started, Namjoon and Jin are probably waiting for us."
It was Hoseok. Hoseok had come up to his dorm to make sure that he was coming.
A warm feeling bloomed inside Yoongi's chest.
"Yeah, alright."
They left the common room together, and when they walked into the Great Hall Yoongi felt a little more at ease with another presence beside him.
Instead of leading them to their familiar yellow-clad table, Hoseok steered them left to the Ravenclaw table.
Yoongi spied Jin and Namjoon waving at their arrival not too far from the entrance. They had held two spaces for them across the table where the two Hufflepuffs sat down.
"We waited for you, but Jin did steal a little food before you came," Namjoon elbowed Jin in the side who made a noise of disbelief, complaining about Namjoon exposing him.
"Well, let's dig in then! You said you were hungry, right Joon?" Hoseok teased and started to serve himself.
It was the most pleasant dinner Yoongi had had in the Great Hall. The Ravenclaws around them didn't pay them any mind, and Yoongi felt no stares on him. Suddenly, it didn't feel like the whole school knew and hated him.
The three boys were a fun group. Their banter amused Yoongi, who smiled at the table whenever they poked fun at Jin's love for food, Namjoon spilling his juice or Hoseok's loud laughter.
After that, he was never scared of eating in the Great Hall. The three always invited him to eat every meal with them, and always sat at the Ravenclaw table.
When dinner was done, they continued their games, playing exploding snap and a horrible game of monopoly. Namjoon insisted that they play wizards chess, and after losing completely, Yoongi vowed to never play him again. It was still the most fun Yoongi had had since the summer.
