Work Text:

Jungkook wakes up to the sun streaming in through the white curtains and bathing the bed in bright light. He hums and rolls over to go back to sleep, expecting to wrap his arm around his husband’s waist and get a nose full of his scent but instead getting a fistful of cold sheets. Usually on Sunday’s Jimin is home, and with Jungkook’s job making him busier than usual this week, he barely had time to see him and was looking forward to cuddling with him in bed. The loss disorients him enough that he sits up. He rubs the sleep from his eyes as he glances over at the clock. It reads 11:00, meaning Jimin went out for his weekly brunch with his mother already. He groans, knowing that he woke up much later than he intended and that he’ll have to scrape up something for breakfast before his conference call at two.

Running his hands through his knotty hair a few times, he toes on his slippers and heads for the kitchen. The television is still on, paused on an episode of some drama. After flipping the channel to a news station, he heads over towards and opens the fridge. A cold blast of hair hits his face as he scours each of the shelves. He decides on the leftover barbecued meat they prepared for dinner a few nights ago and, after dishing it out onto a plastic plate, plops it into the microwave. He grabs his phone from the counter, clicking the home button to find a text message from Jimin from two or three hours ago.

Chim Chim <3

You were sleeping so peacefully that I couldn’t wake you

See you after brunch baby

Love you 💖

Jungkook smiles, quickly typing back a “love you too” as the microwave beeps. Sticking his phone in his pocket, he pulls his plate from the fridge and grabs a fork. Once situated on the couch, he takes turns watching the news, scrolling through his phone, and eating his meat. It’s around 1 by the time he finishes and not wanting to get too distracted so close to the conference call, he opts to put his dishes in the sink and head back upstairs to grab his laptop. Once situated again, he opens it up and scrolls through all of the files.

Jungkook is a director and producer with an up-and-coming independent film company with his high school friend Taehyung. The two of them, along with a team of 30 members, are in the process of creating their first big project, a horror film about the Yeongdeok House. They recently finalized the cast and now must move on to looking for locations willing to let them film, which is harder than they initially anticipated. Jungkook hopes that this conference call will finally end in success.

His ears perk up from the sound of a key in the front door, meaning Jimin is home. Jungkook bounds up to meet him, and the door is barely open before Jimin immediately throws himself into Jungkook’s arms. Jungkook rests his face into Jimin’s neck, nosing at the gland at the base of his neck and taking a deep inhale of the scent of peaches, his omega’s scent. He smells absolutely divine this morning. It’s thicker and sweeter, which is unusual, but Jungkook can’t complain.

“Hi to you too, handsome,” Jungkook giggles, kicking the door closed with his foot before pressing a soft kiss to his omega’s cheek.

“Missed you,” Jimin.  says, relishing at the slightest bit of affection. “Just wanted to cuddle with you more. I would’ve woken you, but I know how tired you’ve been from work.”

The pair head for the kitchen as Jungkook takes Jimin’s leftover bag and puts it into the fridge for him. When he turns around to face him, he’s taken aback by how absolutely beautiful Jimin looks this afternoon. Not that Jimin doesn’t look beautiful always, but it’s different this time. It’s like he’s looking at him for the first time all over again. His skin practically glows, the pink in the apple of his cheeks amplifying it. With that and his black locks hanging loosely around his forehead, he looks like a fairy. “It must’ve really been a while since I’ve gotten a look at you, because you look the most stunning I’ve ever seen you. My beautiful omega.”

Jimin fake pouts. “Are you saying I don’t always look this good?”

Jungkook laughs out loud, playfully swatting at Jimin’s shoulder. “You know what I mean! You’re glowing. You look just as beautiful as you did the day we met.”

Jimin lets out a pffbefore heading for the couch to sit down. “You mean the day you saw me at the sea with Hoseok hyung when you were with Taehyung and Jin? When I was sweaty and covered in sand and about eight layers of sunscreen?”

“Yep, that would be the one.”

“You flatter me.”

Jimin can’t contain the smile on his lips as he sits down. He allows Jungkook to get comfortable before curling up in his chest and interlocking their fingers. Jungkook switches the channel to some drama which neither of them really ends up watching. The entire time, Jimin twirls Jungkook’s wedding band around his finger while Jungkook presses kisses to Jimin’s hair. They talk, too; they talk about how Seokjin and Hoseok are taking everyone out to officially celebrate their engagement next Friday, how Yoongi called Jungkook to tell him that he bought a new kitten, and all of the gossip Jimin’s mom fed him at brunch. They’re drunk on each other’s company, so consumed with each other that Jungkook doesn’t notice what time it is until his Skype rings from his laptop.

Shit!

Jungkook springs off the couch, grabbing his laptop and frantically rushing around to find his bag full of set postings and other real estate listings.

“Jungkook-ah?” Jimin’s expression shifts, a tilt to his head and raise of his brow revealing his confusion. “What’s going on? Who is that?”

“Taehyung,” Jungkook shouts over his shoulder, finding his bag in the hall closet. “He said he was able to get the representative of a property that looks similar to the Yeongdeok House on a call for us so we can hopefully try and get permission to film. We want to get this all squared away today.”

Jimin sits frozen on the couch, unable to process the situation. This was supposed to be their time, time Jungkook promised him and seemed so eager for when Jimin walked through the door this afternoon. Yet, here he is, scrambling around the room looking for his workthings. Tears well up in his eyes.

Jimin finally dares to speak. “How long will that take?”

“Hopefully not long.”

He slings the bag over his shoulder before heading upstairs to the bedroom for some privacy, leaving Jimin to sit on the couch alone, picking at the sleeve of his sweater.

Two and a half hours pass and Jungkook still isn’t finished with his call. In that time, Jimin managed to have a full phone conversation with Hoseok and Seokjin occasionally adding his two cents, clean all the dishes in the sink, and even rearrange the movie shelf. After all of that, he still sits on the couch pathetically watching the staircase up to the master bedroom hoping that Jungkook will come waltzing down.

Jimin knew what he was getting into when Jungkook first decided to take on this project a month ago. It would be one of his biggest and potentially most successful to date, which also means it would be the hardest he ever worked on anything. Jimin grew accustomed to only seeing his husband for no more than an hour or two a day and waking up and going to sleep in an empty bed. He always tolerated it, because he knew that after he gets back from brunch Sunday was theirday alone together. For Jungkook to shower him in affection and attention. He promised.

He knows he shouldn’t be jealous of Jungkook spending so much time at work. This was Jungkook’s livelihood, after all, and it’s by no means easy. He has to do what he has to do. Yet Jimin can’t ignore the flames bubbling in his stomach the more he thinks about how Jungkook is up there when he should be down here. Not even the drama on TV distracts him.

“Whatever.”

Jimin lies down on the sofa, curling up into a ball underneath a fluffy blanket, closing his eyes.

Jungkook finally descends the stairs with glee about another hour later. Although it took way longer than anticipated, the property representative agreed to allow them to shoot there and they drew up and signed the virtual contract. He wants to tell Jimin, but he arrives at the bottom step to find him sleeping, his mouth slightly open in a snore. He looks absolutely adorable and Jungkook’s heart swells. Not wanting to disturb him, he quietly pads over to the hall closet to put his work bag back. His efforts are fruitless, as he hears Jimin stir behind him. He turns back around to see him sitting up, arms folded across his chest and a look in his eyes that is absolutely dejected.

“I’m sorry for waking you,” Jungkook says, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck out of reflex. “Tried to be quiet.”

“It’s fine.”

“Are you sure?”

Jimin gives a quick hmbefore turning his attention back. Jungkook senses something strange in the air. The smell of peaches no longer present, the room fills with what he can only compare to ginger. It’s a new scent that Jimin never gives and it throws Jungkook for a loop.

“Jimin?”

He takes a seat next to him on the couch, hoping it’ll force Jimin to look at him. The only thing it does is intensify the scent as Jimin sets his jaw and crosses his arms tighter. Jungkook assumes this could only be about how long the conference call went, which makes him feel worse.

“Hey, I’m sorry baby,” Jungkook takes Jimin’s hand, attempting to lace their fingers together. “I know that I sprang that conference call on you all of a sudden. It went longer than I initially anticipated.”

The scent remains potent but Jimin softens up a bit, slipping their hands together. He opens his mouth to speak, but swallows what he really wants to say, satisfied enough with both Jungkook’s apology and avoiding a bigger argument about it. Jungkook raises an eyebrow – clearly knowing that Jimin has something to tell him - watching Jimin roll over the words in his head before speaking.

“It’s okay, Jungkook, I promise. I know that you wouldn’t have done it if you didn’t have a good reason for it.”

Jimin leans over and presses a feather-light kiss to Jungkook’s lips, but Jungkook relishes in it and deepens it, running his tongue along Jimin’s bottom lip to open them. He takes Jimin’s hips in his hands and shifts him so that he straddles his lap. Jimin bares his neck for him, letting out a breathy sigh. Jungkook knows what Jimin wants, immediately getting to work latching onto his neck. His lips find Jimin’s mating bite, sucking and licking the mark in long, wet strokes. Jimin’s breath is hot on his face, which only fuels him to go harder. He nips the skin lightly with his front teeth and Jimin, heart swelling from the act, bares his neck further. This is what they always do when they have disagreements. For them, it symbolizes that no matter how mad they get at one another, they’re still bonded and love each other no matter what. Both men swoon.

“Going to spend the rest of the night making it up to you,” Jungkook whispers against Jimin’s shoulder. “We can do whatever you want to do, the night is yours.”

Jimin giggles, intentionally breaking the mood by cupping his cheeks and kissing his nose. “Can we order dinner, then? Maybe some Chinese? I’m starving.”

Jungkook rolls his eyes in faux annoyance – unable to hide his wide grin – and turns on his phone to look for a takeout menu.

If Jungkook didn’t think something was going on with Jimin before, he certainly does now.

After that Sunday, Jungkook makes every effort to spend as much time with Jimin as possible. Even when he comes back to their home in the late hours of the night after a day full of table reads, he lies in bed with Jimin and cuddles with him, sometimes talking about the day and sometimes not. Jimin’s new scent persists, replacing his comforting peach aroma with bitter ginger. Jungkook ignores bringing it up, opting to believe that it’s nothing to be concerned with. Yet, besides that, things almost seem like they’re changing for the better.

Then, after a few days of this, Jungkook arrives home progressively later each night and leaves earlier each morning. Whereas he tried to get home before midnight and stay home until at least 9 am, he now pads into their bedroom each night around 2 am and leaves before sunrise. Jimin barely speaks to him at all anymore aside from the occasional text or call on Jungkook’s lunch break. It’s like he’s totally oblivious to the suffering he’s putting Jimin through.

He supposes that he can’t blame Jungkook entirely for this, as some fault lies in himself for not telling Jungkook how he feels about the lack of attention he’s giving him. Yet, the pair never had a fight before and Jimin doesn’t want to rock the boat over something that probably is much less serious than he’s making it. He also doesn’t want to ruin this for Jungkook, especially with how his eyes light up whenever he talks about it. So Jimin bites his tongue and accepts it; he grows accustomed to eating, watching television, and sleeping alone again.

This persists again for around a week until things come to their boiling point.

Jungkook doesn’t come home one night. It’s around 4 in the morning, and despite all of Jimin’s phone calls and text messages, he receives no answers. The later and later it gets, the worse the fear gnaws at the pit of his stomach. He paces back and forth across the living room, each time looking back up towards the door praying that he’ll see Jungkook walking through it.

He never told me he was going to be staying this late. Did he? What could he even be staying this late for?

The worst-case scenario, that Jungkook could be hurt or worse, passes through his mind and it sends him into an absolute tailspin. Unable to calm himself down any longer, he tears up the house, looking through closets, dressers, and even Jungkook’s desk to look for any sign as to where his husband could be. Clothing gathers into a heap on the floor, bottles of cologne spill over onto the white carpet, and staplers and other office supplies rain down as fast as Jimin throws them. Yet, his efforts are fruitless. No sticky notes with meeting details scribbled on them, no events written into any of his calendars, nothing. Hot tears roll down his cheeks and his heart speeds up just as the front door quietly clicks open. It’s barely audible, but Jimin’s ears are perfectly tuned in. He takes the stairs two at a time, desperate to throw himself into his husband’s arm, hold him, and never let him go.

Coming into the room, a strange scent finds him. It’s not Jungkook’s usual scent, that punchy aroma of slightly-burned marshmallows and campfires that he loves so much. No, this scent is light and airy with a hint of lavender, like freshly washed sheets. He knows scents like this very well.

Omega pheromones. He was with another Omega.

Something in him snaps, like a tree branch holding on by a thread finally crashing down. It erupts and bubbles over like hot lava, and he can’t stop himself from marching over to his husband, fists balled and necked arched.

“Baby, I’m sorry, I hope I didn’t-”

Fucking Jungkook!

Jungkook’s jaw drops, eyes fully trained on Jimin as he shakes with rage. He doesn’t dare to speak, too afraid that anything could send Jimin farther off the deep end than he already is. He freezes in place as Jimin closes the distance between them to something negligible, their chests just barely touching. Jimin’s sticks his nose into Jungkook’s neck, inhaling sharply before scoffing and stepping backward.

“You were with someone else, weren’t you? That’s why you’ve been so late again these past few days?”

“No!” Jungkook rapidly shakes his head, unable to believe what he’s hearing. ‘What are you talking about?”

Jimin’s stomach churns aggressively, so nauseous that he could throw up right here in the middle of the living room. He wants to believe that Jungkook is telling the truth, that he wasn’t with another man for all hours of the night, that he’s oblivious to that sickening aroma encircling the room. But that’s impossible because it’s all Jimin can smell. He swallows it in huge gulps and no matter how much he intensifies his own peach scent it won’t dissipate. Thick, hot blood courses through his veins.

“You don’t smell that?”

“No, smell what?”

A growl reverberates in the back of Jimin’s throat. “You smell like a fucking omega!

Jimin never growled at him before, so it’s enough to shock him. Now, out of his daze, Jungkook recognizes a second scent in the room, one he certainlyknows does not belong to Jimin. He smells the sleeve of his shirt and that’s when he finally realizes what’s going on here.

“Jimin, let me explain-”

Jimin spits, words laced with venom. “What could you possibly have to explain about why you smell like some other fucking omega bitch? It’s one of the staff members right? Is it production, craft services maybe? Or maybe it’s one of the actors who wanted to ‘run lines with you.’ I should’ve known that this is what you were doing when you said you were working.”

Jimin laughs bitterly. “Was he younger than you? Is that why you gave yourself up to him? Did he just drop to his knees and-”

“Jimin, can you fucking relax?!

It’s Jungkook’s turn to raise his voice now. Jimin’s eyes widen and Jungkook knows he got the message. Yet, something in him keeps him going despite knowing how wrong it is.

“If you think I’m cheating on you, then that’s your own fucking problem that you need to address. Don’t pin your shit on me when you don’t knowthe truth,” Jungkook says. “Taehyung-ssi and I sat in on table readingsall week and our casting director won’t let us leave until he’s satisfied with the actors, who are all omegaswhich is probably why you can smell them on me!

“I don’t what’s going on with you recently or why you’re being so hostile with me, but there’s clearly something. You better figure it out and stop being a possessive, jealous jerk.”

The room is quiet, but the air is thick and heavy, almost unbearable to breathe. Jimin shrinks under the weight of Jungkook’s words, smaller than ever before. His face flushes crimson and his bottom lip trembles, a tell that Jungkook knows all too well to mean that his husband is going to cry. His heart drops. He knowsthat he fucked up, that he went off without even asking Jimin where all this came from or why he’s so upset. Watching his husband on the verge of tears is always one of the worst forms of torture, and this time hecaused it. He just wanted to know what was going on and instead he made it worse.

“Jimin, I’m sorry-”

Jimin squirms out of Jungkook’s reach, managing to choke out a “sleep on the couch” before rushing to the stairs.

“And then he ran upstairs away from me. I could hear him crying the whole night.”

It’s been four days since the argument and Jimin’s successfully avoided Jungkook completely. When he woke up early each morning, Jimin had already left for work. When he got home late each night, Jimin was already asleep in the bedroom with the door locked. No phone calls, no text messages, no contact of any type. The only sign that Jimin is even still alive is the ever-present new scent that fills the house more each day. It’s been driving Jungkook absolutely up the walls. In need of some guidance, he reached out to their friends Namjoon and Yoongi for advice and the three decided to go to a coffee shop to talk it out.

“That sounds rough,” Yoongi rests a soothing hand on Jungkook’s over the travel mug he brought. “It may be nothing, we all go through that sometimes.”

“I know, hyung, but this is different. I feel it. There’s something wrong with him. He nevergets like that with me, ever. He even fucking growled at me! But before that, he’s been absolutely fine.”

Yoongi pauses, scratching at the wooden table and contemplating the facts before proceeding with a question. “How else has he been weird?”

“Besides the extreme angry outburst? Not really. He’s been unusually cuddly but that’s just Jimin, so I don’t think it’s anything. His scent is a little bit different though-”

Namjoon immediately cuts in. “What do you mean, different how?”

“You know how his scent is usually fresh and peachy and calming. Now, it’s just bitter and thick and unbearable. The stuff practically chokes me when I walk in any room of the house. I don’t even recognize it. When Jimin gets angry, his scent changes to burnt desserts at the absolute best. Never that.”

Namjoon and Yoongi sip their coffee, swirling their spoons and contemplating their next words. They both exchange glances from the corner of their eyes, seemingly thinking the same thing but not sure how to ask it. Jungkook’s heart races, having no clue what the two of them are thinking.

“I hate that I even have to ask you this, but to fully understand what could be going on I have to ask,” Yoongi takes a deep breath before spitting out the words. “When was Jimin’s last heat?”

Jungkook splutters, the mouthful of iced coffee in his mouth spraying all over the table. He coughs violently as Namjoon rubs his back and waves down a waitress and Yoongi hides his face to laugh. The ordeal draws the attention of everyone in the small coffee shop, most of the loud chatter dying down to whispers with only the faint music from the radio audible. Jungkook glances around the room and the other patrons turn away as soon as he catches their eye. The waitress comes with more paper towels and everyone forgets what happened.

“Thanks for that,” Jungkook mutters, wiping his mouth with some of the extra napkins.

“Hey, I told you I didn’t want to ask!” Yoongi chuckles, taking the wet napkins from Namjoon and throwing them in the waste bin by their table. “I would be perfectly happy not thinking about your sex life. But it’s pertinent to my investigation that I ask.”

“Shut up,” Namjoon lightly swats his shoulder. “Jungkook, just ignore him and answer the question.”

Jungkook remembers it very vividly. It was last month, around the time that Jungkook found out that he got the project. He got home later that same night, practically bouncing off the walls with how excited he was to tell Jimin. He opened the bedroom door to find his husband surrounded by all of Jungkook’s clothes, beaded with sweat and practically writhing.

“It was only one month ago.”

Yoongi scratches his chin, eyes jumping back and forth between Jungkook and Namjoon. He sighs. “Again, I hate that I even have to ask you this-”

“-Get on with it, Yoongi!”

“Christ, alright!” Yoongi stares daggers at Namjoon for a moment before turning back to Jungkook. “Did you…um…did you happen to knot? At all?”

Jungkook’s nose turns up and Namjoon snorts. “I think so, maybe. Why?”

Jungkook chuckles as horror flashes upon Namjoon and Yoongi’s face. He can’t figure out why they look so disturbed. As he watches the anxious tapping of Namjoon’s fingers and Yoongi’s attempts to hide the blush creeping into his cheeks and thinks about Yoongi’s questions, his heart drops.

“Are you asking me if there’s any chance that Jimin is pregnant?”

Yoongi smiles sheepishly and that’s all the confirmation that Jungkook needs.

“My sister and her mate have two kids, Jungkook-ah. I’ve been around a pregnant omega enough to know that exactly what happened to her is what is happening to Jimin-ah. The aggression, mood swings, scent change…I’m not saying that I’m definitively right but...”

Jungkook’s head feels heavy, and there must be a visible change in his expression because Namjoon rubs small circles on his back and urges him to take a sip of his drink. The coffee shop chatter makes his head ache.

This must be what he wanted to say to me last week after my conference call.

It’s not that Jungkook doesn’t want children. Marrying and Jimin and starting a family is everything he could ever dream of. He’s just not sure if he’s quite ready, especially with the Yeongdeok House project taking up so much of his time. He wants to be there for Jimin through the whole pregnancy, from appointments to shopping to the birth; he just knows that with work that’s not something he can give right now. He would give up the movie in a heartbeat for his family, but he needs a steady income to ensure the pup will have anything it could ever need and want. He’s in a no-win situation right now.

“What am I going to do?” Jungkook drops his head into his hands, pressing the cold coffee mug against his forehead. “It’s not that I don’t want this, in fact I’m ecstatic. It’s just…”

“…I think the first thing you have to do is talk to him about this before you overreact.”

The rest of the time spent together involves all of them quietly sipping their coffee without speaking. The moment is too tense now to say anything, the fear that they’ll set Jungkook off lingering in the back of their minds. They only make the occasional small talk, asking Yoongi about how his new kitten is doing or Namjoon about his mate, Hyungwook. When the time comes to leave, the pair put a fistful of bills on the table and leave Jungkook sitting there at a loss for what to do.

The puzzle falls into place and he knows that they have to be right. There’s no other explanation. He has to bring this up to Jimin sooner rather than later, or else the strain on their relationship will continue to grow. He just doesn’t know when the proper time is to bring it up.

Jungkook doesn’t bring it up by the time Thursday – the day of the engagement party – rolls around. He and Jimin are still barely talking, so the tension in the car is palpable as Jungkook drives them to the restaurant. He occasionally pears up in the front mirror to get a look at Jimin, but he just continues looking out the window and ignoring that Jungkook is in the car with him. He wants to say something now if only to make dinner less awkward. But how do you bring up to your mate that you think he’s pregnant?

“Turn here,” Jimin says, voice low and almost inaudible.

Jungkook pulls into the parking lot, finding a space close to the front to pull into. He puts the car in park but sits for a moment without turning it off.

“Jimin, can I ask you something?” Jungkook asks, turning to face his husband. “Please?”

Jimin doesn’t answer, he just sets his jaw and gets out of the car. Sighing, Jungkook fumbles with his own seatbelt for a moment before hopping out and following behind Jimin into the restaurant. The soft music crackling from the speakers fills his ears, calming his nerves just a little bit. He’s never been this anxious about going out to dinner with his friends before, and he suspects it has something to do with the fact that he and Jimin will have to paste on a happy face despite Namjoon and Yoongi knowing what’s really going on.

“Minnie, Jungkook-ah, over here!”

Jungkook looks up to find Hoseok at a large rounded booth in the far corner of the main dining room, he and Seokjin both waving their arms to signal to them. Jungkook motions to the hostess that they found their table.

“Hyung,” Jimin smiles, taking Hoseok into his arms. “How have you guys been? It feels like it’s been forever since we’ve seen you.”

“I know,” Seokjin ruffles Jungkook’s chair and chuckles. “We’ve just been so busy these past three or four weeks with telling all of our family and finding a wedding planner that we’ve barely had time to breathe.”

Jimin squeals, throwing himself into Seokjin’s arms. “I can’t believe our best friends are getting married!”

Taehyung, Namjoon, and Yoongi push away from the table and the group shares their greetings. Jungkook takes a seat at the head of the table with Jimin on his right side. He tries to look at him as they sit down, but Jimin just presses his lips into a line and trains his eyes on Hoseok and Jin opposite him.

“Thank you all for coming,” Hoseok joins hands with Seokjin over the table, their rings glinting under the house lights. “It means a lot to us to be able to celebrate this all with you. Especially because had it not been for Minnie and Jungkook-ah meeting at the sea that day, we might’ve never met.”

Yoongi lets out a loud “whoop” which draws the attention of the hostess, who glares at them before going back to the notebook she was writing in. They all giggle before passing around the plates of appetizers and dishing them out to one another.

“Jungkook, Taehyung,” Seokjin passes a plate of rice cakes over to Namjoon, “how is the movie coming along?”

Jimin flinches a bit but keeps looking away from Jungkook.

“Well,” Jungkook rubs his sweaty palms up and down his jeans. “It’s going pretty well. We’re halfway through the table reads and we’ve gotten all of the set and crew things squared away. Hopefully we can begin filming in three weeks.”

“Jungkook and I have been working so hard,” Taehyung says. “We’ve had to stay late almost every single night and be out early the next morning, but we’re making it work. Hopefully the movie turns out amazing and this was all worth it.”

From the corner of his eyes, Jungkook notices Jimin grumble something under his breath. Jungkook’s heart speeds up, annoyance building in the pit of his stomach. Jimin has no right to act like a petty child, not when he’s the one who blew up first, accused him of cheating, and decided to ignore him rather than allow him to explain. This tit-for-tat game continues for another half an hour, Jungkook saying something and Jimin having some petty, under-the-breath comment about it. Frankly, Jungkook is getting tired of it, but manages to hold his tongue as not to ruin the evening.

This works for a while.

At some point, the waiter comes out with a large bottle of red wine and seven glasses, asking “Would anyone like a drink to accompany their dinner?” He goes around the entire table, start with Hoseok and Seokjin and working their way to the right. Jungkook graciously accepts, the alcohol deliciously sliding down his throat without any burn; maybe he’s just that in need of a drink. Jimin is next, and as the waiter steps over to him, he holds out his glass to imply that he would like some.

Jimin drinking alcohol while pregnant.

Jungkook feels the panic bubble over as something in him snaps.

He slaps the long-necked glass from Jimin’s hand, and it hits the floor with a sickening crack. He pants heavily, looking at all of his friends’ horrified faces who don’t dare say a word. Hoseok is so embarrassed that tears pool in his eyes.

Jeon Jungkook,” Jimin growls, his voice sending chills down Jungkook’s spine. “What the fuck is wrong with you?”

Me?! What do you think you’re doing drinking alcohol while you’re fucking pregnant?”

The words leave his mouth before he can stop them. The entire table gasps, even the staff who’s cleaning up the broken shards of glass. Jimin’s mouth drops and closes just as quickly, his nostrils flaring as the new scent pools off of him again. Jungkook knowshe’s fucked up now, because Jimin grabs him by the arm and pulls him towards the bathroom. He kicks the door open, looking for a sign that someone is in the bathroom with him, before locking the door and turning to face him.

Jungkook is met with glassy eyes and a tear-streaked face. He instantly feels awful for making a scene back in the dining area. There is a time and a place for doing this, and at Hoseok and Seokjin’s engagement dinner is not the place by any means.

“What was that, Jungkook?”

“I…I thought…”

“You thought that I’m pregnant?” Jimin chuckles. It’s softer now, any anger that was present before seemingly dissipated. “What gave you that idea?”

“After our fight, I got really worried, so I went to Namjoon and Yoongi and-”

“Of course.”

“I got really worried. You were so, so angry. You’ve never gotten that way with me before. You’ve never growled. And on top of your scent changing? I did more research after we talked and it turns out that when pregnant, omegas get really territorial of their mates, so much so that they lash out when someone tries to take them. And their scents change. It just seemed like the right explanation.”

Jimin laughs again, closing the distance between them as he laces their fingers together. “Honey, I’m sorry for laughing. I really am. It’s just…that’s not why I’ve been acting so differently. I’ve been so odd because I’ve felt attention-starved. With your movie, you’re barely able to give me attention, and with the time you did have you were using it on stuff with work. I’ve missed you, and when I smelt that omega on you it just made me think of how I wish you were spending time with me, so I got jealous and freaked out.”

“You just felt neglected?”

“Yes.”

“You’re not pregnant.”

“No, I am not.”

Jungkook fake pouts, making Jimin laugh even harder. He snuggles into Jungkook’s chest, tracing the mating bite with his fingertips.

“I could kill you right now.”

“I really am sorry, baby,” Jungkook sighs, tongue lapping at Jimin’s neck to scent him. “I had no idea how much my being gone was really affecting you.”

“It’s okay,” Jimin says. “I know I didn’t make it easy on you, especially considering I didn’t try to tell you how I was feeling.”

“I’ll make this up to you however I can,” Jungkook says, kissing Jimin’s nose. “If it requires me cuddling you and pampering you until you get physically sick of me, then so be it. I'll do anything. I'm so so sorry, Jimin, for not seeing it.”

The two of them stand like that a while, holding each other and whispering sweet things to one another. Even with Jimin in his arms, Jungkook still feels empty. This is what he wanted, right? He wanted Jimin to make up with him. He wanted there to be another explanation other than pregnancy. Yet, here he is, wishing that maybe it would’ve been true. That they were going to have a family together.

Jimin must sense it, because he whispers, “Did you want me to be pregnant?” Jungkook nods, not saying anything.

Jimin plays with the hair at the nape of Jungkook’s neck. “I still want a pup with you. I still want a family with you. This changes nothing. I promise you. After this movie of yours is finished, let’s do it.”

Jimin and Jungkook both kiss, unable to prevent themselves from smiling. Perhaps some good came out of this after all.
