Chapter Text

John and Amy carry the boys who are fast asleep into their beds.

Amy follows John back to the living room.

'What?'

'I can never understand what you’re going through,'

'But?' replies John.

'Eventually, you’re going to have to be Dad'

'I know,'

He sits down on the sofa behind him.

Amy sits next to him taking his hand.

'Dean keeps asking me when mummy is coming home, I don’t know what to tell him,”

'I can be here if you want,'

'No, it’s alright,' replies John.

Amy hugs him and leaves.

30 minutes later Dean wakes.

'Mummy, Mummy,'

John rushes into Dean's room.

'Hey, I’m here,'

'I want mummy,'

John sits down on the end of Dean's bed and Dean sits up.

'I know you do, I do too, I want her to come home more than anything,'

'Why can’t she then?'

John inhales and exhales a breath.

'Cas said mummy’s in heaven,'

John nods in reply.

'But why?'

'I don’t know, I guess sometimes God just needs to take his earth angels early,'

A tear drops from Dean's eyes and John pulls his son into a hug.

'It's gonna be OK, I promise you,'

2 years later.

'I’m sorry to do this to you again,'

'It’s ok your boys are a joy,' Amy replies

'I’ve never heard them called that before,'

Sam clings on to John’s trousers.

John bends getting on his knees.

'I’ll be back soon I promise,'

John looks back at Amy.

'I’ve got a job interview,'

'That’s great,'

John stands up again.

'Yea, it’s not much just work in a garage,'

'Hey, it’s something,' Amy replies

'I won’t get it if I’m late,'

They both look down at Sam who is still clinging to John’s trousers

'Who wants ice cream?'

'Meeeeeeeeeeeee,' Dean shouts

Sam looks at his Dad.

'Go on,' John tells him

Sam and Dean enter the house.

'Thanks again I owe you,'

'Yea, you owe me about 100,' Amy replies

'And I appreciate every single one,'

She goes back inside.

Amy walks into the kitchen Dean and Cas look back at her guilty.

'What's that all over your mouth?'

Dean and Cas shrugs. She looks on the kitchen counter.

'What is this?'

Dean and Cas point to each other.

'I was saving that as well...what happened to the ice cream?'

'It’s too hard,' replies Cas.

'Dean, you’re a bad influence on my son,'

“It...”

Amy looks at him.

'Nothing,' Dean replies

9 years later. Amy wanted to send her son to the same school as Sam and Dean but wasn't able to get him in there. So she enrolled him in a school 30 minutes away.

'Cas, wait up...we waited for you at the bus stop, what happened?'

'Oh sorry, I forgot,”

Dean stares back at him.

'I had to get home,'

'You ok?'

'Fine'

Cas winces.

'What...'

'It's nothing,'

Sam walks on ahead.

'Let me see,'

'Dean...”

Dean puls up Cas's shirt to see some bruises on his stomach.

'Who did this to you?'

'Just forget it,' replies Cas.

'Tell me,'

'Why so you can beat him up,'

Dean stares back at him.

'Tommy Skerritt,'

'That idiot...,'

Cas stares at Dean.

'What?'

'Don’t...do anything to him,'

'I won’t,' Dean replies

'Promise me,'

'Ok,' replies Dean.

'Say it,'

'I promise,' Dean replies

3 days later.

Cas catches up to Dean and Sam on the way home.

'Tommy has been suspended,'

'Oh really, that's a good thing,'

'See we had a surprise assembly this morning, apparently, Tommy just came to the head teacher and told her he’s the one bullying all those kids,'

'I didn’t touch him,'

'Don’t lie to me,'

'I didn't I swear, you saw him...but you didn't say anything about talking to him,'

'Don't be mad OK, it's just...no one treats my best friend like that and gets away with it,'

'Thank you, for fighting my battles, again,'

an hour after they get home. John knocks on Dean's door.

'Come in,'

“Jessica is downstairs,'

Dean nods and John closes the door behind him.

'Give me a second, OK,'

Cas nods in reply.

'Hi, Dean I just wanted to give you this,'

Jess hands him his chemistry workbook.

'You left this at my place,'

'Thanks, but you could have just given it to my dad or at school tomorrow,'

'I know but I wanted to thank you, I got a B on that test,'

'Oh ok, you know it was down to you,'

'Don’t be modest, Dean,'

'No really, I mean you’re smarter than me,'

'You think so,'

'Sure,' replies Dean.

Silence.

'Oookay, so I’m going to go,'

'Oh, yea sorry...thanks again,'

Dean goes back upstairs.

'Who's Jess?” Cas asks

'She's just...,'

“His girlfriend” Sam replies from the door.

'Shut up, Sammy,'

Dean gets up and closes the door.

'I didn’t know you were seeing anyone,'

'She’s not my girlfriend she just...wishes,'

3 weeks later on Saturday

The doorbell rings.

'Hi,'

'Is your brother here?' Cas asks

'Yea, but...'

'It’s alright I’ll just go up,'

Jessica and Dean are studying in Dean’s room.

'You’re not even listening to me,'

'I am,' replies Dean.

'What did I just say?'

Silence.

'Exactly,'

She’s looking at him

'What?'

She leans forward putting her lips on his, Cas walks in.

'I’m sorry...I didn’t know anyone was...I’ll leave, sorry,'

Cas leaves.

'Great timing Cas,' she whispers.

'I should go after him,'

'He’s a big boy,' She replies.

'I should....'

'What is it about that, boy?'

'Excuse me?'

'Dean, I like you,'

Dean opens his mouth to say something.

'We’ve been skirting around the issue for weeks,'

'You have,' Dean whispers.

'What,'

'Look, Jess, it's not you,'

'It’s him isn’t it...you want him, I'm right ain't I because there’s no other option...look at me,'

'Alright well, I’m done,'

Dean gets up walking with Jess to the front door.

'Dean, I’m sorry...do you want me to leave?'

'No way would I want you to leave,'

Cas shrugs.

'It’s fine...Cas, it wasn't what it looked like she kissed me,'

'I know,'

'I would never date someone like her anyway,'

'I know,'

'I don't really like girls anyway,'

'I know,'

'I know it's a shock to hear,'

Dean looks at Cas.

'Did you say I know,'

Cas nods in reply.

'How?'

'You’re my best friend and you wear your heart on your sleeve,'

'So it doesn’t bother you?'

'I would be a pretty big hypocrite if it did,' replies Cas.

Dean mouths the word 'Oh', then his face turns into a frown.

'What?'

'I don't think I should say,'

'You can tell me anything,'

'It might destroy our friendship,'

Cas moves closer placing his lips on Dean's.

Sam walks in.

“Oh, sorry I was just... getting a drink”

Sam walks over to the fridge then turns back to face them.

'Do you need a hand?

Sam shakes his head, takes his drink and leaves.

The next morning.

'Sam, eat your breakfast,'

'I know something you don’t,'

'About, what?'

'Dean and what he was doing yesterday,'

'What were you doing?'

'Noth...'

'Kissing,' Sam cuts him off

'That’s my boy, was it a girl from school?'

'It wasn’t a girl it was Cas,'

'Shut up Sammy,'

'What...no you must be mistaken,'

'I saw them,'

'I don't want to hear it again,'
