Work Text:

Cherry blossom season was in full swing and Uraraka was in such a good mood because of it. Spring was her favorite time of the year because not only were the trees and flowers and earth coming back to life after the cold, harsh winters, but also because the feeling in the air was generally that of happiness and contentment. It wasn’t cold enough to warrant heavy jackets and bad moods, but it wasn’t hot enough to elicit the moans and groans of how miserable people were due to the heat and humidity.

As she walked down the street during the hustle and bustle of the morning, she stretched her arms high, taking in a deep breath of crisp air. She sighed it out. “I love this time of year. What about you, Bakugou-kun?”

Bakugou had on a usual frown and was glaring at people walking by, to which they gave him a wide berth and moved quicker away from him. His hands were jammed into his pockets and he was slouching slightly as they walked, but his overall mood seemed to be okay, as far as Uraraka could tell. He just scoffed, to which she rolled her eyes good-naturedly.

They were off-duty for the first time in two weeks – together, no less – and they were walking around the city going to some of their favorite shops and restaurants. After having been dating for the last two years, the couple had developed a liking to a few spots where they could each find something they enjoyed.

Uraraka’s mind drifted to when they first made the announcement to their friends and classmates that they were dating. The looks on some of their faces had been that of utter shock and surprise, but some of her closest friends, and some of Bakugou’s, had known and seen for a while that the two had grown incredibly closer and that they suited each other well.

Where she was quiet yet bubbly and spirited, he was abrasive yet thoughtful in his own way. Where she would rather spend the days sleeping in, he would encourage her to join him in his early morning workouts to keep in shape for their hero work. Where she loved spring, he loved autumn. The two were opposite, and yet so very similar in many ways.

They both loved the thrill of sparring and battle, but neither one enjoyed putting others in danger because of it. They both enjoyed spicy food, but Uraraka could only handle a medium spiciness level while Bakugou enjoyed flaming hot. They both liked to cuddle and hold hands and be generally in each other’s presence when in the same room. They weren’t clingy, but just knowing that the other was nearby was a comfort to each of them. And even though Bakugou wouldn’t admit it out loud, he loved making Uraraka happy and smile, as she loved seeing his secret smiles just for her.

It was late afternoon now as they walked along the road, the sun still bright despite the later hour. That was another thing Uraraka loved about the spring: more daylight. It wasn’t that she didn’t like the dark, but it just felt like she had more time in the day to do more things than what the winter would allow. As they reached the opposite side of the alley, the sight of the pink blossoms caught Uraraka’s eye and a wide smile spread across her face.

“Bakugou-kun, look!” She pointed toward the trees, grabbing onto his arm as she did. He looked in the direction she pointed, the scowl on his face softening just slightly at her excitement. “Aren’t they beautiful?”

Uraraka tugged Bakugou along beside her, her eyes fixated on the cherry blossom trees that dotted the park that they were entering. There were a lot of tourists roaming around and taking pictures, as well as locals enjoying the nice day and the blossoms by having a picnic in the grass or sitting on a bench to look at the sights and chat.

Once they were in the park near a cherry blossom tree, Uraraka let go of Bakugou’s arm and rushed over to stare up at the tree, the smile never leaving her face. She turned to face Bakugou. “Let’s take a picture together!”

“Why?” He glanced around the area, taking in the people that were nearby.

“Because it’s pretty and will make a nice picture,” she said with a pout, hands on her hips. “Now come here.”

He sighed, but did as he was told and stood beside her. She was wearing a light pink jacket over a white t-shirt, shorts, and black leggings, while he wore baggy cargo pants, a black t-shirt, and a black sweatshirt with a skull over that. Uraraka pulled out her phone and swiped to the camera – luckily being a hero-in-training paid decently, plus Bakugou insisted she upgrade from a flip phone, otherwise she wouldn’t have gotten the phone – and then held her arm out so the phone was facing them and she could see the two on the screen.

Even holding her phone as high as she could, Bakugou still had to scrunch down, and after she took a few pictures with them in front of the blossoms or having a branch in between them as an aesthetic, Uraraka put her phone away and smiled up at him. “Now that wasn’t so bad, was it?”

He huffed. “You suck at taking pictures.” She glared at him, but he grabbed his phone out of his own pocket and swiped to the camera. “Let me show you how it’s done, Angel Face.” The nickname caught Uraraka temporarily off guard – he hadn’t called her that in almost a year now, and only in secret when it was just them away from the world. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and held the camera out. She shook her head to shake away the surprise, then quickly smiled at the camera, holding up her hand in a peace sign.

And of course Bakugou was right: his photos looked better than hers. She grumbled to herself about it, but said, “Can you text this one to me? I want to make it my phone’s background.” It was one of them looking at each other sweetly before he gave her a quick kiss on the forehead in front of the blossoms.

He quickly made a few swipes of his fingers and she received the photo. She smiled at it then put her phone away. “Do you want to walk around for a little while? There’s still another hour or so before it gets dark out.”

Bakugou was zoning out staring at a nearby couple who were laughing and smiling, being very affectionate with one another. Before she could ask the question again, he said, “Sure; let’s go.” He grabbed onto her hand, wrapping his fingers around hers and she, again, was slightly surprised. Bakugou wasn’t an overly affectionate person in public; he’d told her on multiple occasions that the world didn’t need to know about his feelings towards her and that it was meant just for them, but right now it felt like he was going against that. Sometimes he’d hold her hand in public, sure, but every time it surprised her. It was a good surprise feeling, though, and she embraced it warmly in her heart whenever it happened.

She smiled up at him and the two began to walk around the park, enjoying the sights and chatting about their weekends apart – she had gone to visit Yaoyorozu, Jirou, and Hagakure for a girl’s weekend, while Bakugou had went home to help his parents move some new furniture around remove some old furniture. He had also picked up a weekend shift to keep himself from going bored while she wasn’t around to hang out with him.

They walked around for the better part of an hour before Uraraka pointed to a nearby bench and asked, “Mind if we sit down for a few minutes?” He just walked over to the bench, pulling her along with him, then sat beside her on the bench. She glanced over at him as his leg started to bounce against hers. “Are you okay, Bakugou-kun? You seem kind of jittery today.”

His leg stopped immediately and he scowled at her. “I’m fine. Couldn’t be better.”

She frowned at him. “If you’re sure…” He just looked away from her, stuffing his hands into his pockets again. She stared at him for a few more seconds before settling into the seat and taking in another breath of the crisp air. The sun was starting to down and causing golden light to spread across the trees and nearby skyline. It was a beautiful sight.

A thought occurred to her suddenly. Uraraka said, “Hey, Bakugou-kun?” He glanced over at her. “What’s the date today?”

“April 26th, why?”

Her eyes went wide and she clapped her hands to her mouth before a big smile blossomed there. She grabbed onto his hands then, confusion crossing his face, before she said, “Happy anniversary!”

He blinked at her before a smile cracked his own lips and he began to laugh. Loudly. She tilted her head with a questioning look before he stopped laughing long enough to say, “It took you this long to realize it, Uraraka?”

She let go of his hands and crossed her arms. “It’s been a busy two weeks, Bakugou-kun. Some days I don’t know what day it is.”

He laughed again, softer this time, before he knocked his shoulder gently against hers. “I get it, Uraraka. It really has been a busy two weeks.” He sighed, slumping against the bench. It looked like his mind started to wander again, which was very unlike him. Then he sighed, again and scratched at his head roughly before he mumbled, “Fuck it.”

He stood up and turned to face her. Uraraka watched him with a questioning look. “Bakugou-kun?” He clenched his fists together a few times before he suddenly dropped down to one knee in front of her, the tips of his ears extremely red. Uraraka’s eyes went wide as she watched him pull something out of his pocket and grip it tightly in his hand. A few passersby looked at them and whispered to each other excitedly, slowing their pace a little to watch what was about to happen unfold. Uraraka could feel her cheeks starting to get warmer as she stared at Bakugou. “B-Bakugou—“

“Uraraka,” he murmured softly, clearly uncomfortable with the amount of attention that they were suddenly getting with his position in front of her. He shook his head once before looking up at her, and Uraraka could feel her heart start to beat faster with the sudden intensity in his eyes as he said the words that she hadn’t been expecting, but had secretly wanted for a while now, “Will you marry me?”

It was as though the world seemed to fade away around them, and the excitement and happiness that bubbled up in her couldn’t be contained anymore as tears welled in her eyes and she covered her mouth from surprise. Bakugou opened the small black box he held in his hand and in it was a simple golden ring with a single small diamond in the center. It was beautiful and perfect and she couldn’t find the words to speak, so she just nodded her head fervently and he smiled at her briefly before taking the ring and sliding it onto her shaking finger.

He stood up and pulled her up with him, wrapping her in a tight embrace as she wrapped her arms around him and clung to him with all of her might, laughing through her tears as she did so. A few claps could be heard around them, to which Uraraka giggled at, and as she pulled back from him, she held her hand out to stare at her ring.

Bakugou slid his hand onto her cheek, his other arm still wrapped around her, and she instantly went into that touch before looking up at him. His thumb, calloused though it was, gently wiped away her tears as he leaned down, glancing at her lips before his red eyes locked onto her brown ones and he murmured, “I love you, Uraraka Ochako.” And kissed her.

She returned the kiss, which was so full of love and warmth and she could feel herself melt against him, her heart thrumming in her chest as she felt his love crash into her with every movement of his lips against hers, every heartbeat against her palm.

He pulled back to lean his forehead against hers, her eyes still closed as she just couldn’t stop smiling. He said just loud enough for her to hear, “I promise to make you the damned happiest wife ever.”

She giggled and looked up at him. “I’m going to hold you to that.”

He grinned wide. “I don’t doubt it.” And kissed her again, softly this time.

“Alright, Bakugou!” A voice called from nearby. The two froze in place before turning toward the voice, Bakugou’s sweet expression gone as he glared at the person who spoke – Kirishima. The red head was grinning wide and sharp as he waved at them, a camera in his hands. “I got the shots you asked for, man. They turned out great. This was a great location for it.”

Uraraka turned from Kirishima back to Bakugou, whose ears were red again. The palm that wasn’t near her crackled slightly. She tried to hide her smile as she asked, “You had Kirishima-kun get pictures of us?” He had been planning this all along? To propose to her? That warmed her heart impossibly more than it already was.

He grumbled, “He was supposed to keep his big mouth shut.” Then he yelled toward Kirishima, “Hey, shitty-hair, you better not have messed up any of those shots!”

“Don’t worry, Bakugou,” a feminine voice called from their other side, and they turned to see Mina walking toward them with a big smile, another camera in her hands. “I got good shots, too, so if Kirishima’s turned out bad, you can definitely rely on mine.”

Bakugou’s eyebrow twitched, but Uraraka just giggled. “Thank you, Mina-chan.” She turned and faced Kirishima. “Thank you, Kirishima-kun. I really appreciate it.” She wrapped her arms around Bakugou again, but he was still glaring at their friends. She shook him lightly. “We appreciate it.” He glanced down at her, a scowl on his face, but she saw his look soften after looking at her. She stretched up to her tip toes and kissed his cheek and whispered in his ear, “I love you, too, Bakugou Katsuki.”

He turned toward her, catching her in a kiss once more, which surprised her enough to activate her quirk on both of them, and the two began to float up above the crowd. Kirishima called to them, but Mina yelled at him to take some pictures because it was too cute of an opportunity to miss.

Bakugou securely wrapped his arms around her as Uraraka wrapped her arms around his neck as they kissed one more time. She’d worry about telling her other friends and her family after – and ask Bakugou whether or not he got her father’s permission to marry her, which she was sure he had – for right now all she wanted to spend the rest of the night with her fiancé.
