Work Text:
"Yoon!" he screams, a wide smile plastered on his face. The said guy looks at him, a poker face residing on his features.
Hoseok jogs up to his best friend who just smiles up a bit seeing him approaching with a grin on his lips. Min Yoongi and him have been best friends ever since they were children. Their parents have been friends as well, and they would often meet each other, so Hoseok and the older would always get to see one another as well. The first times were merely Yoongi pushing him away, but he eventually warmed up to him and now they have this strong friendship they established a decade ago. They knew each other like the back of their hands, and they can easily tell if someone has a problem with things. They're practically brothers already, except that the younger wanted a little bit more than that.
Yes, Hoseok has caught feelings for Yoongi.
He doesn't know where it all started. All of a sudden, weird sensations came to him whenever he would see his best friend smiling at him, whenever the elder would touch him, or even just when Yoongi talks to him. Maybe it all started when the boy defended him from those people who accused him of being disgusting. Maybe it was when he stayed with him at the hospital when Hoseok got seriously ill. Maybe it was when he bawled his eyes out to him and the lad comforted him when his father got mad upon learning that he wanted to become a dancer someday. It didn't matter actually, though, as he'd been trying to suppress these feelings he had for his hyung. He values their friendship more than how he feels, and Hoseok doesn't want to ruin what they had already established.
"Hey," the elder snaps him out of his thoughts. The raven-haired boy smiles at him, cursing himself for getting lost in his own little world. "You okay? You're spacing out."
"Y-Yeah," he laughs, and Yoongi looked relieved at that. Hoseok looks behind him and sees his companion standing at least two meters away from him. He sighs and pouts his lips a little bit. "Yah, Park Jimin. Come here."
The shorter guy slowly walked towards them, a small blush decorating his chubby cheeks. Park Jimin was a freshman he met in their dance club a few weeks ago. Although the male was shy and antsy at first, he was really a sweet and a kind guy when he got to know him. The younger and him had become really close friends in just a short notice, and Hoseok really wanted to let him in into their little group. He really thinks the cute guy would fit into their group, and that he would easily get along with everyone. So here he was, introducing Park Jimin to his very own best friend.
"Hi." the youngest of the three bows before Yoongi, and the mint-haired boy seemed awestruck at the sight of his dongsaeng.
"Hyung, this is Park Jimin, a freshman from my dance club. Isn't he cute?" at the question, the brunet grimaced, obviously cringing at the description used to him, while the eldest just kept his composure, still appearing cool in front of them. "And Chim, this is Min Yoongi, my best friend for eternity. He might look all cold and reserved but he's a true softie."
"Shut up, Jung."
"Nice to meet you, Yoongi-ssi. I'm Jimin," he extends his hand for a handshake, to which the quiet male looked shocked at. The gesture brought a little blush on his face, and Hoseok can't help but to feel a sick feeling in his stomach. "Hobi-hyung talks a lot about you."
"Yeah, nice to meet you, too." Yoongi says, voice low and quiet as he shyly accepts the handshake. The sunny boy noticed the flustered boy on his best pal's features, and he rarely had that expression. He just tried to brush off the ill-feeling in his chest.
"And now that you've met each other, I'll introduce you to the others later. They're crazier and hella louder than this guy here," he interjects, breaking the handshake. He felt a glare directed towards him, and he giggled at that. "I'm sure they'll really like you, Jimin-ah."
"Thanks, hyung."
And as the trio decided to take a stroll around the campus while it's still not class hours, Hoseok can't help but to take notice of Yoongi and how he stares at their dongsaeng. And though he didn't like the feeling, he felt a little bit insecure about it. The mint-haired boy's gaze on the younger held a hint of admiration in it, and it has never been that way for two years now. The raven-haired boy could feel that there was something up with how Yoongi acts around Jimin as they all converse for a while, and it made him feel uncomfortable.
But he chose to just dismiss it.
Hoseok laid on his bed, satisfied that he finally got some rest after wrapping everything he needed to do. College had been really overwhelming for him, and found it stressful, at the same time fun. He had met great people along the way, although his friendship with Yoongi and Jimin remained strong. Yoongi was currently in his second year of college, studying music production, while Jimin was in the last year of high school. They never forgot to communicate with each other despite the busy schedules they all had. If anything, Hoseok found this as a way to become closer to one another, and he was happy they really did.
He went out of his room to grab something to eat. As he passed by the couch, he found his current roommate, Namjoon, cuddling with his boyfriend, Seokjin. He grinned a bit at the sight, and internally wished that he had someone like that as well. At the thought, Yoongi came up to his mind, but he brushed it aside because he knew the thought was pretty farfetched. Seokjin noticed the presence of another person and glanced upon him from the couch.
"Have you eaten, Hobi?" the handsome male asked. Seokjin was a very caring friend of his, and ever since he met him he's already had that parent-like side on him. Namjoon was lucky he had the elder as his boyfriend. "I can cook something for you if you want."
"I'm fine, still full. Besides, I don't want to bother your sweet time with your Namjoonie." the lad said with a simper, which earned a bright red blush from his hyung.
"Yah!" embarrassment was evident on the oldest's face.
Namjoon chuckled, though he had hints of pink on his face as well. "You're so cute, Jin-hyungie."
"Ew, gross."
"You're just bitter." the youngest of the three replied to him. They all just laughed.
Hoseok let the two have their own time as he went back to his room again, locking it afterwards. As he lied down on his comfy bed, a buzz startled him, so he grabbed his phone from the side drawers and checked the notification.
1 new message
Yoongi-hyung
He slid the notification open and read the male's message.
Yoongi-hyung
hey hobi. are you free right now?
Hoseok
yeah, what's up?
Yoongi-hyung

Hoseok

Yoongi-hyung
you'll know. meet me hear at the ramyun
place near our uni.
Hoseok
be there in ten
And at exactly seven twenty-five in the evening, he found himself rushing on the streets of Seoul, clad in an oversized shirt and shorts. An unusual smile was painted on his face as exhilaration ran through his veins. This must be something special as Yoongi asked him for help. He wondered what help could he give, though. It wasn't everyday that his best friend messages him to get a helping hand, so he was really willing and excited to go. Hoseok increased his pace until he already caught sight of the ramyun shop Yoongi talked about.
As he stepped foot inside, he immediately caught sight of a young man in black sweater and bucket hat. Yoongi quietly slurped his noodles as the younger approached his figure, a wide smile on his face. His hyung looked up to him, cat-like eyes scrutinizing him, his lips wearing a straight line. The cheery boy gaped in shock as he realized that his hyung dyed his hair a new color.
It made him look ethereal.
"Wow hyung, you dyed your hair black!" the dongsaeng exclaims, astonishment evident on his face. The sight in front of him caused his chest to constrict, and Hoseok was sure he's never met a man as beautiful as Min Yoongi. "It-- It looks good on you, but why the sudden change, though?"
"The roots were starting to show up," the other replied, taking another slur of the ramyun he was eating. There was a dust of pink on his pale cheeks, though, and it didn't go unnoticed by him. "Someone also told me that I'll look good in it, so why not?"
The last statement struck something inside his chest.
Yoongi was never the type to please someone. Maybe Hoseok was just overthinking, maybe the guy just decided that it was already time to change his hair color, but he can sense that the action was for impressing a certain person. What hits him the most, however, is that he had an inkling who could be that someone, but he chose to ignore it, like always.
"Anyways, what’s with the sudden hangout? You missed me, hyung?" he jokes, in attempt to change the topic and to clear his thoughts of negative things. He can hear the elder take a deep breath as he sat down in front of him.
"Shut up," Yoongi immediately spat out, causing him to lightly chuckle. Another sigh escapes the shorter guy's lips, before he speaks up once again. "Hoseok."
"Yeah?"
The younger can hear his best friend whisper something along the lines of 'fuck it' and 'stop being nervous' before he finally calms himself down. "I-- I need your help."
His brows knit in confusion. "For what?"
"Help me ask Jimin out."
The day has finally come and Yoongi really looked anxious about everything. He kept on fixing the creases of his clothes and heaving out small sighs. Hoseok would've laughed at the situation, but he knew the older really hoped a lot about this. The younger had tried his best to help him, despite the constant aches in his chest, because he knew Yoongi liked Jimin for years now. Jimin wasn't the type who wishes for grand confessions; rather, he was more of the simple gestures guy, so it wasn't really a hard task trying to lend a hand to his best friend. What made it difficult, though, was that he was harboring feelings for him, and it caused him so much pain doing this for Yoongi.
Jung Hoseok was surely and idiot.
"It's gonna be fine, hyung," he gives the older a pat on the shoulder, giving him a gentle, yet half-hearted smile. Yoongi looked upon him, an antsy expression visible on his features. "Jimin's nice, and I'm pretty sure he likes you a lot."
"I can't be so sure of that, Hoseok. There might be someone he likes but he doesn't just tell us." the younger had never seen his best friend like this. Wow, Park Jimin really has a big effect on him, huh? The pain in his heart ached even more.
"Oh trust me, hyung. He likes you," and I wonder how happy you'll be once you learn how much he talks about you in our chat box, Hoseok muses. He spots the youngest of them arriving so he excuses himself and bids the raven-haired goodbye. "He's here. Good luck, hyung."
He can see how Jimin happily ran up to Yoongi as the latter stands up to meet him half way. He can see how the brunet cheekily compliments their hyung's brand new hair, he can see how he instantly asks the older why he invited him there, and he can see how the raven-haired boy was a little hesitant about everything. Hoseok can see how those hasty yet sincere words left his best friend's lips, and he can see how Jimin tearfully hugged him and accepted him as his boyfriend. Hoseok can see everything from behind a tree, how the two shared their first ever kiss, how they intertwined their fingers as they walked away from the park, going somewhere they only know between them, how they basked in each other's presence, laughing and smiling before they're finally gone from his line of sight. Hoseok can see everything from there, and he only smiled at that.
And then there was vibration from his pocket.
Yoongi-hyung
best day of my life. thanks a lot, hoseok.
Hoseok just smiled as his tears fell down.
"Hey hyung," Yoongi's little brother, Jeongguk, spoke on the phone. They were currently at a fast food chain, finishing up their food after they coincidentally met in front of the convenience store near the university and along Yoongi's way back to his flat. "Where are you right now?"
"At a fast food chain nearby, why?" the older brother asked. It was already around seven in the evening, and rain was lightly pouring down the sky.
"Great, can you fetch me up here? I'm at this bookstore in front of the campus, and I can't go home because I forgot my umbrella back at the dorms." the younger replies, as the now blue-haired male sighs and rolls his eyes at that. Hoseok chuckles to himself.
"God, why am I even brothers with this kid," he mumbles, the annoyance written all over his face. The red-haired male found his best friend's relationship with his brother very amusing, and he earned a glare from Yoongi at that. "Fine, meet me there at ten."
"Okay. Bring me burger and fries, too. Bye…"
"Stupid Jeongguk." he mutters after the boy ends the call. They both stand up as the older lines up once again, buying his brother's requests. After that, they enter Yoongi's car, and drives to the location Jeongguk told them.
It had been three years ever since then, and Yoongi now works for a small entertainment company as a producer, producing his own songs and co-producing songs for other artists. Hoseok was in his last year as a college student, doing just right, and Jimin was in the year below his. Their friendship had been stronger as years passed by, although the oldest of them has been having his hands full recently, and Yoongi and Jimin's relationship has been going steady as well. Hoseok never saw Yoongi this happy even before, so he was glad Jimin could expose a new side of the usually quiet boy. He can see how his best friend seemed brighter and livelier after Jimin and him became together, and it made him really happy, despite the slight pain striking his chest whenever they would be acting sweet and touchy to one another. He was happy Min Yoongi met Park Jimin, because it brought his best friend to see that life is so much better than what he thought.
Hoseok smiled at the sentiment.
Soon, they were in front of a bookstore Yoongi's little brother was telling him, and the blue-haired boy left the car for a while to pick Jeongguk up. The rain was becoming heavier as minutes passed by, and when the two came back the youngest's trousers were already wet from the rain. After everything was settled down, they drove away, the rain pouring down even more.
As they reached the dorms, the downpour became lighter, so Yoongi finds a parking spot and parks the car. However, before they could even exit the vehicle, Jeongguk points out something outside.
"Hyung," he calls out to Yoongi, but it grabs Hoseok's attention as well, noticing the weight behind the younger's tone of speaking. It sparked an unwanted feeling inside him, but he waits for Jeongguk to continue. "Isn't that-- Isn't that your boyfriend?"
They both looked outside.
Indeed, it was Park Jimin.
And he was kissing another guy.
"Get off now, Jeongguk." the blue-haired lad's tone becomes cold and distant all of a sudden, and Hoseok knew how this night will be spent at his hyung's flat instead of the dorms.
The little brother remains inside and tries to talk it out with the older. "I-I can talk to him, hyung. I-I know who the guy is--"
"Just get off the fucking car, for fuck's sake!" the shout reverberates inside the vehicle, and it causes both boys to become completely silent. Frustrated tears were on the verge of falling from his best friend's eyes, and Hoseok felt a sharp pang of pain at that.
The raven-haired boy mumbled a 'sorry' before gathering his things and leaving the car, Hoseok handing him his very own umbrella before he gets off. After Jeongguk was finally gone, Yoongi lets his tears fall freely, as he slammed his fists on the steering wheel angrily. Flashes of pain, frustration, betrayal and anger were all in his eyes right now, and seeing that caused him to tear up as well. The redhead never wanted to see his best friend like this; he never wanted to see him hurting so much like this. He wanted his happiness, he always wanted to see him smiling and laughing, that's why he entrusted him to the guy he thought could make him happy the most.
But why did Jimin betray him?
"Did-- Did I do something wrong, Hoseok," the heartbroken male asked him, voice laced with pain and brokenness. No matter how much the younger wanted to erase that pain in his heart, to remove those nasty tears from his eyes, he can't. All he could do was to rub circles on his back. "I-I don't understand everything at all."
"Shh, Yoon. Stop crying, please. You're more than enough, you know that. You’re a great boyfriend. It was him who committed a mistake, Yoon. Don't blame yourself." he tried to comfort him, his very own tears spilling. Shit, why did Jimin have to do this to him?
"T-There must be something wrong with me. T-There is," Yoongi kept on saying, and it broke Hoseok's heart. He pulled him closer and embraced him, as the older sobbed into his chest. "I-I really loved him, Hobi. I-I did…"
"Shh, stop crying, please…"
The scenario continued for a few more minutes, until Yoongi was calm enough to drive already. Hoseok decided to stay with him for the night, trying to make sure that he doesn't try something ridiculous. The ride to his best friend's flat was a silent one, and he really could feel the tension inside the older male's car. When they finally arrived at the place, he let his hyung change, while he prepares his bed and the couch he's going to sleep on. The redhead's tears fall silently at the thought of what happened again as he laid on the couch, but immediately wipes them away hearing his hyung's voice.
"Hoseok-ah," the older's deep, yet tired-sounding voice catches his attention, as he sits back on where he was lying on. Yoongi was in his loose white shirt and pajamas, holding a pillow under his arm. "Can you-- Can you sleep with me tonight? Just-- just hold me, so at least I-I can sleep, if you're not uncomfortable."
"O-okay."
He moves inside his room, snuggling his best friend, trying to make him feel a bit better. It was one of those scenarios Hoseok had imagined before in his dreams, but there, they were happy, whispering sweet nothings into each other's ear. It wasn't supposed to be like this, they weren't supposed to be all sad and broken, but they were, because this is the reality. This is the truth. And the truth is, Yoongi and him weren't together, Yoongi was cheated on by his boyfriend, and Hoseok was only a friend to comfort him.
His tears cascaded down but he wiped it once again.
It had been a little over two months since that night, and things have greatly altered since then. What used to be a strong bond between the three of them had been broken, and Yoongi had cut off all connections with Jimin. Or at least, he was trying to, because it had been hard for the guy to remove the boy from his contact list. Hoseok was there to witness everything his best friend was trying to do. It was hard for the first week. The elder drank it all out, and the redhead was there every day to ensure that the miserable-looking male won't try something scary. Everything gradually became better as time went by, but Hoseok never saw a glimpse of the lively Yoongi once again. The elder male recently liked to drown himself with work, often sleeping in his studio, and it just made the younger worry a lot more.
He felt so frustrated and upset with himself.
It was another day in the university. Hoseok stayed somewhere quiet as to contemplate about things. The past months wore him out, drained his energy so much. He was usually positive about things, but with the sudden turn of events, he wasn't so sure about that anymore. Somehow, this whole thing with Yoongi and Jimin was making him feel so down, because he doesn't know how to cheer up his friend once again. He has no idea on how to make him happy like how Jimin did. The younger is sure that he can't put up a fight against Jimin, because Yoongi loved him more than a friend and Hoseok was just his best friend, nothing more, but he really wanted to see the miserable guy smiling once again like how he did before. It hurt Hoseok thinking that he cannot be like Jimin to Yoongi, but right now, he just wanted to make his hyung happy. He wanted to ease the pain Yoongi was feeling, but he was starting to lose his mind constantly thinking on how to do that.
"You’re Jung Hoseok-hyung, am I right?"
A seemingly troubled young man interrupts his train of thoughts.
"Yeah," he replies, staring at the boy with a confused face. He had seen the guy numerous times around the campus, and he can recall seeing him with Jimin oftentimes. "Why? And who are you?"
"You're friends with Jiminie, right?" Hoseok nods in response to the question. "You're also friends with Yoongi-ssi, am I right?"
"I am. Now tell me who you are."
The boy takes a deep breath before he finally speaks, a serious expression on his face. "I'm Kim Taehyung, Jimin's roommate and friend. I-I know you're all mad at him after what happened, but please listen. He's been in the hospital now for five days. He collapsed because he hasn't been eating well f-for weeks after what happened. Hyung, Chim loves Yoongi-ssi so much and I've never seen him this broken for the past years. I-I don't wanna lose him, he's been a great friend to me and I have yet to repay him. Please-- please help me, Hoseok-hyung. He just wants Yoongi-ssi back."
Tears soon fell from the poor boy's eyes as he just stared at him in shock. For the past month, he had just been listening and siding with Yoongi that he never tried hearing Jimin as well. The redhead felt guilty and mad at himself for being such a horrible friend. He never knew Jimin would take this to this extent. Hoseok was sure he had to do something to let the two reconcile, but he had doubts in the back of his mind.
Because he knew if he does that, he'll probably never have his chance with Yoongi again.
He doesn't want to be that selfish guy, because deep down, Yoongi was still longing for Jimin, and Hoseok knew that. However, a chance came for him. Once Yoongi finally moves on, there is a chance for him to become more than just a friend for the older. There's a possibility for them to end up together now, and he doesn't want to lose that. It was finally his chance to be happy, and his chance to be the one to make Yoongi happy, and he doesn't want to throw it away.
But Yoongi's happiness is Jimin, and Hoseok wants his happiness. So he says yes to Taehyung.
"I--" he stumbles over his words, as he tries to swallow down all the doubts and selfishness residing inside his heart. Tears started to prickle his eyes but he fights it, because why can't he be selfish even for once about this thing? "I'll try to talk to him, Taehyung. P-Please inform me about Jimin's condition."
"Thank you, Hoseok-hyung. Thank you." the gray-haired male embraces him, and the hyung just hugs him back.
Tears left his eyes but he wiped them away again, just like how he always does.
His mind felt so tired and weary and he felt like his energy had been drained so much after the talk with Taehyung earlier. He was currently on his way to the ramyun shop where Yoongi and him always meet before, but if he was being honest, he was reluctant about going there. His chest felt so heavy and the same thoughts kept on running in his mind, and Hoseok just felt like bursting out. he had to keep his composure, though, so he keeps on walking, keeping his emotions in check.
The redhead spots the shop, and waits for the light to signal him that he can cross the road already. As he arrives in front of it, he takes a deep breath, questions bothering his mind at that point. Should he do this? Should he really tell Yoongi to fix it all with Jimin? If he did that, he'll be throwing away all the chances he has right now. If he did that, he'll probably lose the chance to be together with the guy he's like for years. He deserves happiness, right? Everyone deserves happiness, right?
So he enters the ramyun shop and saunters to the table where a young man, dressed up in a jacket and a bucket hat was slurping his noodles.
"Hey hyung," he manages to speak out, the organ inside his chest thumping even harder than before. The blue-haired huy only acknowledges his presence by glancing at him for about two seconds, before going back to eating his bowl of ramyun. "How are you?"
The older male swallows his food and stares back at him directly. It made him want to squirm a bit. "Cut the small talk. Tell me why you called me to get here."
The other's words were sharp and venomous, and he felt like tearing up, the frustrations and stress driving him up the wall. He takes a deep breath, swallowing all the cries that wanted to escape him. Here it goes. "H-Hyung, please don't get mad at me when I say this," his head felt so heavy but he kept on going on. "but d-don't you think you need to hear Jimin's side of--"
"If that's what this is all about, spare it. I'm going--"
"He's been in the hospital for days now, hyung!" he exclaims, and it causes Yoongi to stop walking away. It gathers people's attention, but right now he couldn't care less about that anymore. The shorter man turns around and faces him, shock seen on his face. "He's-- he's been there because he collapsed from not eating properly after what happened between you two. And it's been what, two months? It's been two months since that happened. He's not eating well for two months, hyung! Don't you think he just deserves to be heard as well? His explanation deserves to be heard, so please. Give him a chance, hyung."
"You're," the hyung trails off with his words, finding the right ones to say. "You're joking, right?"
"I wish I was, but I'm not."
"Fuck," salty tears instantly fell from his best friend's eyes, and the sight just broke the younger even more. "Shit, what have I done, Seok? I-I messed up."
"No. You can still fix this," It's okay, you're doing the right thing, he keeps on telling himself. He knew the only way for Yoongi to be happy was to get reconciled with Jimin, and he's here to help him do that, because he was Yoongi's best friend. "Just talk to him. Go and visit him there, hyung. I believe in you, you can do this, okay?"
"Thanks. Thank you so much, Hoseok." the shorter friend hugged him for a brief second, before he scurries off to definitely patch up things with Jimin.
And after Yoongi was gone, Hoseok finally lets his tears of pain and agitation cascade down his cheeks.
"Are you really sure about this, Hobi-ah," his friend Seokjin asks him, a doubtful expression on his face. He was in the middle of packing up for his flight in two days, and the older came to help him, as per his request as well. "I mean, you've got a pretty good job here in the country, so why leave for Japan?"
"I wanna gain experience," he reasons out, but Jin doesn't seem to buy that. He wants to laugh at himself for making petty excuses when he knows that his handsome, older friend can easily guess why he's going abroad. "And I think flying overseas will give me that experience."
"Are you really sure it's just that?" the other simpers at him. Hoseok just smiles at that.
It had been three years ever since Yoongi and Jimin got back together, and this time, their relationship was going stronger than ever. Hoseok was happy that his friends are finally happy together as a couple, but he can't shake the pain constantly creeping in his heart whenever he sees them together acting all sappy and sweet. He's annoyed at himself, at how pathetic he was being, but even if he tried many things to forget this stupid feelings he has for his best friend, it never faded away. If anything, it continuously gets stronger every day, and he knew he had to do something about it already.
So he decides to go somewhere far from the guy he loved for years.
"I can't keep on hurting myself, hyung," he replies with a smile, placing the t-shirt he just folded inside the luggage. Jin stares at him with sympathy, and Hoseok really hated that. He didn't want his hyung looking at him like that, because it just makes him feel even more pathetic than ever. "Maybe, doing this will help me completely move on from him? I deserve happiness for myself, and that doesn't rely on Yoongi-hyung."
"Y-Yeah," the silver-haired boy's cracks, and it slightly startles him. Hoseok looks at the male and sees tears leaving his hyung's eyes, but the older quickly rubs them way. "Sorry. I just hate seeing you hurt, Hobi, but I can't do anything to help you. I'm just happy that you decided to seek for your own happiness, I guess?"
"Thanks, hyung. You've always been a great friend for me, and nothing's gonna change that fact," he takes his older friend in for an embrace. Seokjin had done so many things for him, and he'll never ever forget the guy. "I'm so gonna miss you, Jin-hyungie."
"Me, too."
They stayed in each other's arms, savoring the last moments they'll probably have before the younger finally leaves the country. Hoseok knew he'll miss Seokjin so much. He'll miss the dad jokes, that windshield wiper laugh that only belongs to him, the cooking, the constant show-off of his looks, the care, the advices, everything. He'll miss every talk that they had, the late night calls whenever Hoseok hits his lowest, or whenever Jin encounters problems regardless whether it's about Namjoon or not. He'll miss being with Seokjin in person, he'll miss his presence, and he'll definitely miss the memories.
Their moment was interrupted when his phone vibrates.
The younger takes it out of his pocket and sees two new messages from Yoongi. He glances at Jin before reading them.
Yoongi-hyung
hey, are you free rn?
can you come here at the ramyun shop?
He takes a deep breath before he types in a message.
Hoseok sure. for what, tho??
Yoongi-hyung
jimin's birthday is in two days.
can you help me plan proposing to him?
He felt a presence over his shoulders and sees Jin peeking on his conversations with his best friend. A frown was etched on his face at the messages. "Are you sure about that, Seokie-ah?"
"Yeah. This is the last time after all." he just answered with a smile.
Hoseok oh wow, meet me there in ten.
It's almost time before he confesses, and he'll make sure that he'll give his best helping out his best friend fulfill his dreams of proposing to the guy he truly loved.
"I'm sorry Jin-hyung couldn't come today," Namjoon apologizes in behalf of his fiancé, shyly rubbing the back of his neck. Hoseok understands, though. He knew Seokjin was busy managing his newly-opened restaurant, and he doesn't want to bother him. "But he said he wishes you safety for your flight."
"Thanks Joon. Tell him I wish him good luck for the new restaurant." he tells the younger, and the male smiles at him softly, his dimples appearing.
They finally arrive at the departure area and his friend pulls him in for a hug, as he embraces back, whispering 'best wishes' to the taller. The blonde grins and mumbles a 'thank you' before they break off the hug. Hoseok steps inside and waves at the younger goodbye, but before they completely part ways, Namjoon tells him something.
"Seok-ah," the male calls out to him as he turns around to glance back. "You deserve happiness. I wish you luck."
"Thank you, Namjoon," he mouths out, feeling tears about to leave the corners of his eyes. "Thank you."
He takes his luggages with him as the male finally vanishes out of his sight. He enters the place and does all the necessary procedures before he finally boards on. However, before he could even proceed to the boarding gate, his phone rings.
incoming call
Yoongi-hyung
He smiles a little and answers the call.
"Hey, where are you right now? Everyone's here already. Jimin's also looking for you," he can hear Yoongi's panicked voice, and his heart once again clenches at that. It takes a little silence before he speaks again. "Hoseok-ah."
"Hyung, I-" he trails off a little bit, because he can feel that aching feeling inside his chest again, and he doesn't want to cry right there. "I can't come there. I'm sorry."
"The fuck," his best friend cusses, obviously upset at the sudden knowledge. "Tell me where's your damn ass right now and I'll drag it back here. You know today's the day, right? I need you here, Hoseok."
"I'm sorry," his voice was almost about to crack, and he cursed himself for that. A lump was starting to form inside his throat, but he tries to swallow it down. He takes a deep breath before continuing to speak. "But I know you can do it, hyung. It's for Jimin, you love him. You'll do everything for him, so I believe you can do it."
"Where are you?"
"I'm leaving, Yoongi-hyung," he smiles, despite the warm tears trying to escape his eyes. "But before I leave, can I tell you something important?"
There was no reply from the other line, and Hoseok decides it was time to spill it all out.
He takes a deep breath for the umpteenth time, about to pour it all out. "Hyung, I love you," he tells the older at last, as the unwanted tears fall from his eyes. The male tells himself that it's gonna be okay, that this will be the last time, that Yoongi deserves to know. He calms himself down and continues. "I don't know when it all started, but I'm sure that I love you. I love you to the point that I'm willing to do everything just to see you happy. It hurts to admit, but Jimin's the one to make you happy, and I'm more than willing to see you together with him than with me. It's painful, all these are painful, but I'm happy seeing that he makes you happy."
"Where-- Where are you right now?"
"I'm leaving for Japan, and don't try stopping me, hyung. I'm already here." the younger lets out a chuckle, trying to light up the atmosphere, and trying to ease the pain in his chest.
"Why," his best friend asks, but he paused, searching for the right words to say. "Why didn't you tell me then?" there was weight behind his words, but the younger tries to ignore it.
Because I know you won't return it, his mind keeps on shouting for him to say, but he keeps his mouth shut. He answers the question in a different context. "Well, I just don't want you to bother about it anymore. Besides, you already created your plans for Jiminie's birthday, and I don't want to ruin it," he says, as the speakers announce that it was time to board the plane. "Hey hyung, I have to go now. I believe in you, okay? You can do it. I know Jiminie will say yes to you."
"Wait. Wait, Hoseok-ah--"
"Bye Yoongi-hyung. See you in a few years." and see you when I finally moved on, when I can finally face you without this pain striking my chest.
I love you, Min Yoongi, Hoseok says in his mind, letting the last tears escape before he wipes them away. But it's time for me to be happy now.
And he ends the call.
