Work Text:

Red considered himself the patient type. After years of training atop Mt. Silver, absolutely nothing could get under his skin. Not the everyday hail, not the loneliness he felt — in all fairness, those elements had helped him become the most docile of men known to mankind.

That is, until a certain Pokemon had entered his relationship with Green.

"Oooh, who's a good little boy? It's you, it's you~!" Green cooed at the Bewear and it grunted happily in response to the scratches on its belly. Red learned a few things from the scenery; Green was very, very into cute Pokemon.

Which came as a surprise to him, since Green always went for the intimidating ones. Especially when it was Green who had suggested they catch the Bewear. Red had raised an eyebrow, but Green only responded with a "What? You really underestimate them?"

Well, to be very honest, yes. Red had thought the Bewear was just another cute Pokemon, with its large, fluffy body and its fondness for giving its trainer loving cuddles. Through demonstration, though, Red had learned these cuddly teddybears could snap a whole tree in half with what looked like absolutely no effort.

He had to admit, it was nice to hug Bewear, too. It was just like a little child, but a bear, and abnormal strength for something so cute.

But now, it was soaking up all of Green's attention. He'd spend more time with his Bewear and keep it out of its Pokeball like he would with Eevee. Red was sure this was just a Green's obsession thing, but with how it's been going, it wasn't going away. What's worse is that this Bewear seemed to be actually competing with him for his own husband's attention.

Red tapped the other man on the shoulder to alert him that they were up next. He snapped to attention, and noticed. Green laughed, "Oh? Someone's getting a chance to meet us, huh?"

Red nodded and said nothing, picking up his Pokeballs and heading for the stage downstairs. He could feel Green frown — he knew he was frowning just a little bit and Red couldn't help but feel bad, but Green got up to follow him anyway.

"So you're the lucky challenger, eh?" Green declared in his usual confident tone and Red couldn't help but smile, keeping his face hidden as much as possible by his cap.

The kid nodded excitedly, "Wow! I can't believe it! Kanto's legendary trainers… I get a go at the both of you?! This is so exciting!"

He reminded Red of the kid he had met on Mt. Silver — Gold, was it? — and it felt just a little too nostalgic. He wouldn't let that bother him, though.

"Alright, then. You're gonna get a taste of the strongest trainers you'll ever know yet! Let's get this done with, Red!"

The battle was quite the challenge, Red would admit. The thrill of it was coursing through his veins, but in the flash of an eye, it ends. He heard Green snort, and he turned to him as if he'd snapped out of a trance. Green looked back at him, with the same smug smirk on his face after a win and his arms crossed over his chest casually, "Just go and wipe the kid's team out, why don'tcha?"

Had Red been that frustrated over this whole Bewear thing? He didn't even realize he'd gone full out and just wiped out the kid's team with Green only barely managing to keep up.

The kid didn't seem all too sad about it, though. A fire lit up in his eyes, and he huffed in a mix of exasperation and determination, "Thank you for the match!"

"Pleasure's ours, kid, you kept up rather well," Green waved it off and the light in the kid's eyes grew brighter. He bowed to the both of them as a sign of gratitude and declared, "I'll come back soon with a stronger team! Please go full force on me next time, too! I can take it!"

The brunette could only laugh as the kid descended the steps, and the receptionist nodding to them with a smile to tell them that they could head back to their own little office.

"So," Green leaned against the wall casually, staring at his nails and flipping his hand to inspect, "what's got you so riled up? You aren't that harsh on challengers most of the time."

Red felt a little guilty for that. It was as if the heat of the battle and his frustrations consumed him, and he had no restraint over himself. Green didn't seem mad at all though, just curious… and rather amused.

"C'mon, babe, spill it! I'm curious, ya know?"

He grumbled and couldn't even bring himself to sign a whole sentence due to how embarrassing his own reasons were. He let out a voiceless sigh and looked at Green's Bewear in the corner playing hide-n-seek with his Pikachu, intensely enough so Green would understand his message.

"So, you're jealous of my Bewear playing hide-n-seek with your Pikachu?"

Red quickly nodded his head side to side, and that got Green raising his eyebrow again. He pointed at the Bewear with the same look, and then his finger was pointing at Green himself.

Oh.

Green finally understood what that meant. He stared at Red's hovering finger, and couldn't help bursting into laughter. The other trainer's face flushed in embarrassment, and his cap brought down in his habit of trying to hide his face.

"O—Oh, oh my god- PFFFT-" Green's burst of laughter continued while he sighed exasperatedly in between, trying to catch his breath. Red couldn't do anything but feel the burning sensation known as embarrassment through his entire body.

He finally stopped, but his chest was still heaving, and his dumb shit-eating grin plastered to his face, "You, Red, former Champion of Kanto and present Battle Legend, jealous because I give my Bewear heaps of attention?"

Red felt the sensation burn and his face flush even more. He looked away, but gave a small nod.

Green's grin turned into a soft smile, and he took a seat beside Red. Red was forced to look at him — he couldn't help it. Seconds later, Green's lips were on his, and Red couldn't help but kiss back, either.

They pull away moments later and Green looked him in the eye, with the same soft smile that only Red would ever be able to see, "I get it, you're missin' me, aren'tcha?"

Red nodded in agreement.

"Aw, so you miss havin' me nearby?"

Another nod.

"You're way too honest, babe. I like that," Green leaned forward to give him a quick peck on his cheek, "But you should remember we're married and I definitely wouldn't choose a Pokemon over you."

Red looked away, feeling the embarrassment crawl back up his neck. That look made Green feel a little bad too, and he pulled Red into a hug, "Look, I'm sorry about giving Bewear more of my attention. But I promise ya, that won't be happening again, alright?"

The other man smiled and returned the hug, leaning his head on Green's shoulder, willing to stay like that forever. Red heard a grunt — Bewear, and its steps coming closer, and he felt soft, cuddly arms around him too as the Bewear leaned its head lovingly on his, encasing the both of them in a tight bearhug.

Red couldn't find it in himself to complain. Maybe this Bewear was nicer than he thought; Green was right, too, this thing makes for really good cuddles.
