Work Text:
Dazai Osamu, 17 years old, a troublemaker hated by all the teachers, but managed to get good grades due to his ability of learning with ease. The teenage boy was also considered a heartbreaker: he had kissed most of the students who were around his age, and was upset with the fact that he didn’t kiss all of them. One thing led to another, so soon enough, Dazai had already challenged himself to get a kiss from the rest of his classmates — simply because he was bored.
The first ones Dazai managed to get a kiss were his best friends, Ranpo (he promised to give him candies) and Yosano (he promised to watch the door of the classroom during the break for a week so she could make out with her girlfriend). Then, he got Haruno’s. She wanted to experiment kissing a boy (they kissed for around ten seconds until she pushed him away while cheerfully saying “I really am a lesbian!”).
During a party, Dazai could check a lot of the items of his list: from the girls, Margaret and Higuchi (both slapped him in the face after not many seconds) and from the boys, Twain, Tetchou and Kajii (even though the latter was one of the weirdest guys in class, all three of them had given Dazai fun and playful flirt before the kiss. Besides, Osamu himself had been called weird, more than once, even, so he didn’t mind.)
After the party, while feeling a little bit tipsy, Dazai also managed to get a kiss from Jouno, who was being observed by Tetchou the whole time. That made Dazai get to the conclusion that there was something happening between his two classmates — which didn’t ruin the kiss at all! It even made it kind of intriguing. Being chosen to make someone jealous didn’t feel bad in any way.
The next day, Dazai got a kiss from Steinbeck, offering to pay his lunch, since he heard that the guy was needing some extra cash and would do basically anything to get it (so Dazai decided that it would be interesting to confirm it.)
Then, the only one left was Kunikida Doppo, the class representative. Dazai sighed. Since before his challenge, he already had a personal interest on the blonde guy. He had his whole day planned, got good grades, was loved by all the teachers, behaved well, and all the things expected from a top notch student. However, he somehow wasn’t the typical good boy. Kunikida had an undercut, drove a motorcycle, was the oldest in the class, had boxing classes (according to Chuuya, who trained with him, he was skilled at it), and there were rumours that he had a tattoo.
So, Dazai had been interested in Kunikida for a while. And the problem was, it didn’t seem to be mutual. During multiple occasions, Dazai had flirted with Kunikida, calling him pet names, making dirty jokes, or even touching him in a way that implied that he was interested, but nothing seemed to work. If anything, he just treated Dazai coldly and pushed him away.
However, Dazai was annoyingly determined. He found out which were Kunikida’s activities in the afternoon — he had two free hours before the monthly reunion with the teachers during the class council, so Dazai assumed he would spend them having lunch, then, the library.
Dazai stepped into the library and — bingo! There Kunikida was: one of the few students in the room, concentrated on the book he was reading. He was surrounded by books, notebooks and pens, and Dazai hated how his heart felt soft, admiring how dedicated to his studies and ideals Kunikida was.
“Kunikida-kun~” Dazai loudly exclaimed. He had spent less than thirty seconds in the library and had already been lectured by the librarian.
“Dazai. I’m surprised you even know where the library is. What are you doing here?”
“Ouch, Kunikida-kun~ that’s mean ! You’re hurting my feelings !”
At this point, Dazai was already sitting on the chair next to Kunikida’s, with his arm on his classmate’s shoulder, ignoring the existence of the concept of personal space.
“What are you doing here?”
“Looking for you, of course!”
Kunikida narrowed his eyes. “I don’t recall scheduling a meeting with you today.”
“Oh, you didn’t!” Dazai replied, as if that fact was clear as water since the start of the conversation. “And that’s what I came here to do! You call it scheduling a meeting. I call it a date!”
“No, I don’t call a date anything else, but what it is. It’s simply a date. And I won’t go on one with you. Are we finished here, now?”
“Nah, we aren’t. Why won’t you go on a date with me?”
“I won’t go on a date which the only worth is making a number. You kiss people and make them fall in love with you not because you’re attracted to them, but because you want to show off later.”
Even though Dazai was particularly good at predicting people’s actions, he definitely couldn’t predict that one. Everyone else would have given up, but Dazai… well. Dazai was Dazai.
“I see,” he replied, getting even closer to Kunikida. “You think you’re just an item to check on my list, just like everyone else in our class… and you think you deserve better than being an item to be checked. And you’re right. Look at me.” Surprisingly, Kunikida obeyed. “Kunikida-kun, you’re not just an item to be checked on that list.” Dazai was slowly playing with his own fingers on the skin of Kunikida’s neck. At some point, he got close enough for Kunikida to be able to feel Dazai’s breath as he spoke. His lips were almost touching Kunikida’s, who surprisingly still haven’t protested against anything. “You’re the reason why the whole list exists in the first place.”
As soon as Dazai finished pronouncing those words, he ended the small distance between their lips. Again, Kunikida didn’t protest against that, which made Dazai smile during the kiss. His mouth tasted like mint, and it felt somewhat desperate. He even found out that Kunikida had a tongue piercing and Dazai could swear that if his classmate became a little more attractive, he wouldn’t be able to behave like himself.
Suddenly, Dazai interrupted the kiss. He wouldn’t give everything to Kunikida that easy, of course. Offering everything at once was a thing for one making out session only — to keep him interested, Dazai would have to save some things for the next time.
As he walked away, Dazai spoke, “Uzumaki Café, tomorrow, 4 pm. Don’t be late for our scheduled meeting, Kunikida-kun!”
