Work Text:
"Namjoon."
Yoongi waited a few more moments before gently nudging his husband again. "Baby wake up, I gotta go."
Namjoon groaned, cracking an eye open at his tormentor. Yoongi laughed and swept a hand through Namjoon's hair.
"It's still dark outside, why are you leaving?"
"Because everyone's been called in to the shop early. There's a big job today and we gotta be finished by tonight."
Namjoon felt like crying. He was naturally clingy in the mornings, but with it amplified by his pregnancy hormones, he was losing his mind. "No cuddling then?" He reached out and pulled Yoongi's hand to his cheek.
If Yoongi could have had his way, he would've crawled back into bed that very moment and spooned Namjoon until the younger was begging for space. But he couldn't do that. "I'm sorry, but I'll be back at a decent time tonight, I promise. Get some more rest, I love you." He leaned in for a quick kiss. When he felt Namjoon's slight nod, he pulled away and quietly left the house praying he didn't wake his kids.
Of course they woke up.
Namjoon could hear their little feet slapping against the the linoleum as they ran into the room and jumped on the bed.
"Daddy!"
"Hi Jimin." Namjoon took the opportunity to to squish his son's adorable cheeks. "And hello to you TaeTae." A boop to his nose. "And you too, Jungkookie." A kiss to the child's head.
Namjoon was at the end of his pregnancy and going to pop any day. His body was preparing for labor, and he was resultedly tired all the time. It sucked. "You guys want to nap with me?"
Jungkook had never been one for words, he simply crawled to Namjoon and wiggled under the sheet to curl up next to his father. His brothers followed his example, curling into Namjoon's other side.
Of course, all good things must come to an end. The boys were able to nap for another half hour, but then they woke up and asked for food. Namjoon was pretty hungry himself, so he painstakingly dragged himself out of bed and into the kitchen where he treated everyone to waffles, much to the kids' delight.
"Daddy look! I'm a syrup monster!" Jimin smashed his hands into the syrup on his plate and slathered some onto his brother's face. Taehyung wrinkled up his nose and began to cry, lifting up his arms to be picked up.
"Min Jimin! You know better!" Namjoon quickly scooped Taehyung up despite the stickiness in hopes of soothing the child before he got Jungkook started. It didn't work, Taehyung only wailed louder which prompted Jungkook to scream. Today was just determined to be terrible.
"Alright, everyone's taking a bath."
Jimin stuck out his lip in defiance, "No bath!"
Namjoon could feel his patience snapping like a twig. "Yes bath, and when you get out, you will immediately receive a timeout because we do not play with food, and we most certainly do not put it on our siblings. Now I want you to unbuckle your high chair, climb down, and march to the bathroom." Jimin caught on that Namjoon meant business and quietly did as his father said.
"Come on TaeTae, you too Kookie. Let's go have a bath." He carried each -a child in each arm- into the bathroom and ran a bath.
"Daddy, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make Taehyungie cry." Jimin guiltily stared up at his father. "And I'm sorry for being messy. I didn't mean to be bad!" He began to quietly cry. Namjoon felt his anger melt away. "I know honey, it's okay." He gently rinsed out the suds from Jimin's hair and placed a kiss on his forehead. "How about we all just snuggle and watch a movie?"
Jungkook looked up from where he was splashing alone, "Nemo?" Namjoon booped his nose, "Definitely."
Namjoon knew their cheap TV set wasn't the best, but it had never just up and broken. Namjoon sighed and walked back over to the couch, "Sorry boys, we can't watch Finding Nemo today." Taehyung crawled into his father's lap and stood with his hands placed on Namjoon's chest despite the baby bump, "No fishies?"
"No fishies, honey."
Taehyung crawled off and curled into Namjoon's side, soon joined by Jimin while Jungkook cuddled on the other side. It was just going to be a cuddle day, which would have been fine with Namjoon had his stomach not have started to cramp. He didn't want to move and disturb the kids, so he stayed like that for another hour before the pains in his stomach got too persistent.
He gently wiggled away from his sleeping children and quietly walked into his bedroom to retrieve his phone. Another roll of pain hit him right as he pressed call, "Ah," he groaned, "Hyung, you gotta come over."
"Joonie? Are you okay? Is something wrong?" Seokjin's panic did nothing for Namjoon's discomfort.
"Hyung, the baby's coming, I need someone to watch the kids."
"What!?"
Namjoon was tired and in pain. He didn't have the patience he normally did. "Just come over," he hissed into the microphone and hung up. After that was handled, he waddled back into the living room and gently woke everyone up. Jimin looked up, sleepily rubbing his eyes and stretching out his arms to be picked up.
Namjoon picked him up and softly placed Jimin's head on his shoulder. "How about we have some macaroni and cheese?"
Seokjin came right as Namjoon placed the last bowl on the table. Usually he knocked, but today he was worried, so he just used his emergency key and ran in. "Namjoon!"
"I'm in the kitchen Hyung, and I'm perfectly fine."
Seokjin dashed into the kitchen and ran up to Namjoon, checking for any kind of injury. Namjoon pushed him away. "Jin, everything is fine. The boys have been fed and bathed, I only need you to watch them while I get to the hospital."
"Wait, wait, you're going to the hospital alone? Where's Yoongi?"
"Work."
"God, Namjoon, I'm not letting you go alone. I'm calling Hoseok." Seokjin saw that Namjoon was about to object, so he quickly put in, "Namjoon, if complications arise, someone needs to be there with you, stop being stubborn."
Namjoon sighed and resignedly sat in the chair next to Jungkook, running his fingers through the boy's hair while Seokjin placed his phonecall.
"Alright, he'll be here in about 40 minutes. In the mean time, I'll start timing your contractions so-" He didn't even finish his sentence; Namjoon doubled over in pain, and Seokjin went into full panic mode when he heard a splash hit the floor. "Okay, okay, um, breathe? Are you breathing? Maybe I should call an ambulance?" Seokjin's voice was frantic and distressed, which the boys immediately picked up on.
Jimin began to cry, which then offset Taehyung and Jungkook. It was madness.
Namjoon painfully stood and grabbed Seokjin by the shoulders and led him to the couch. "On the count of three, breathe Hyung. One, two, three, breathe. One, two, three, breathe. Very good, keep it up."
Once Seokjin was handled, Namjoon cleaned up the mess from lunch, soothed the boys' tears, and had them all laying down for a nap by the time Hoseok came. Even plagued with excruciating contractions, Namjoon was an efficiency machine.
Seokjin had never locked the door behind him when he barged in, so Hoseok was able to just waltz right through. "Jinnie? Joon?"
Namjoon dusted himself off and went into the living room to fill Hoseok in.
"The original plan was to bring Seokjin to the hospital, but I don't want him to start panicking again. I think it'll be better if you came, Seok." Hoseok nodded and rubbed a hand down Seokjin's back.
Seokjin offered no protest, just meekly nodded his head in agreement. "Good luck, Joonie." Namjoon smiled and dragged Hoseok out the door to find a cab.
___
Yoongi hadn't expected much out of today. He was prepared for a typical long day at work and not enough money in the end, so when he got a phone call from Hoseok, his surprise was to the roof.
"Hey Seokkie, what's up?"
"I'm currently in a cab, oh my God, ow!" Hoseok pried Namjoon's death grip off his hand and instead switched to rubbing his back. "Sorry, he had another contraction, but basically I'm taking Namjoon to the hospital because he went into labor."
"What?"
"Um, congratulations?"
Namjoon took the phone out Hoseok's hand, "I'm fine, we're pulling up to the hospital right now, and hopefully everything will go smoothly. Seokjin is watching the kids and everything is handled."
"Namjoon, I'm coming right now."
"But what about work? Didn't you have a major job today? We need the money Yoon."
Yoongi rushed around the auto shop, quickly clocking out and grabbing his coat. "I'm not missing the birth of my own son, I'll be there in half an hour."
Namjoon heard the line click and knew that was that. Once Yoongi had his mind made up, there was no changing it. He let himself be ushered out of the car, pausing when a brief contraction washed over him, and hustled into the hospital and put into a room where he curled on the bed and began to cry. Hoseok walked over and laid a gentle hand on Namjoon's back. "What's wrong Joonie?"
"We can't afford this."
Hoseok gently brushed Namjoon's bangs away from his face. "Just worry about having a healthy baby, okay?"
The rest of the wait for Yoongi passed with small talk, the occasional painful groan, and a general sense of excitement about meeting the new addition to the family.
Hoseok looked down at his phone's ding and read a text. "Yoongi's here."
Before Hoseok could tell him where they were, Yoongi barged into the room and was immediately by Namjoon's bed.
"What the hell man? How'd you know which room to go to?"
"I opened all of them until I saw you." Yoongi offered no further explanation, only began to whisper to his husband until Namjoon slid over and let Yoongi have room to lay with him. Hoseok knew Namjoon was in good hands, so he opted to head to the waiting room.
"How's it been so far?"
Namjoon tried to get impossibly closer to Yoongi, relishing in the feeling of him rubbing his baby bump. "This little guy is ready to come out. When my contractions hit 5 minutes apart, I'll have to call the nurse."
"How close are they now?"
"About seven minutes."
"We're getting pretty close huh? Think this one will be a Jungkook, a Taehyung, or a Jimin?"
Namjoon laughed, "Something tells me this little man will be something completely new. You'll start going gray before you hit thirty."
"I think the three we have are already starting to make sure of that."
It didn't take long for Namjoon's contractions to speed up, so after buzzing for the nurse, Yoongi shimmied out the bed, and instead switched to holding Namjoon's hand.
The nurse's gloves gave an intense smack as she yanked them on. She wasted no time in checking Namjoon's dilation. "You're currently dilated about 6 centimeters. That's enough for me to call the doctor in, however, it may be a while before things really get moving along." And just like that, she snatched off her gloves, picked up a keyboard and left.
The doctor was nicer than the nurse, something Namjoon was personally grateful for. The nurse had stressed him out with her coldness. "Mr. Min, I'm going to administer your epidural as requested in the birth plan. Do you have any questions?"
Epidural effects can differ from person to person. Some people have out of body experiences, while others get a feeling of unshakable euphoria. With Namjoon, he became extremely disoriented. When he'd had the twins, the only moment he could remember was their crying as they entered the world, and with Jungkook, he could only remember watching Yoongi hold him with with adoration splashed across his features.
Everything seemed routine, Yoongi was encouraging him, and the doctor was checking on everything from the other end of the bed. But then everything got loud. The doctor sounded worried and everything was happening in a big blur in Namjoon's brain. Yoongi was with him, and then there were nurses, and then Yoongi was panicked and telling him he loved him and Namjoon only felt confused.
___
"Joon, God, snap out of it baby, please. You gotta wake up for me sweetheart."
Namjoon cracked his eyes open, immediately feeling pain course through his body.
"Oh thank God, you scared me. Joon I..." Yoongi paused to wipe his eyes. "I thought I was gonna fucking lose you. There were complications and they had to ask me to leave and I didn't know what they were doing to you and just-" Yoongi cut off his rant and leaned down to cradle Namjoon's face, "Are you with me?"
"How's the baby?" Namjoon gripped Yoongi's can the best he could while he was still out of it. "Please tell me the baby is okay."
"About that, wait, no, no, don't freak out honey. The baby is fine! He's a healthy little boy, he's just not...alone. He had a little friend hiding right behind him away from detection during all of our ultrasound appointments. He's a little small, but the doctor said that in about another month he'll be on the growth charts." Yoongi stepped aside and gestured to the two identical cribs.
He walked over and picked a twin up to hand to Namjoon and held the bigger one in his own arms. "Time to name these little guys."
Namjoon poked his sleeping son's tiny, perfect nose. "He looks like a Minhyuk.” He let the baby wrap tiny fingers around his bigger one.
"Minhyuk huh? I think this little wriggly one is a Jeongin. He has a lot of spunk for someone so tiny."
Namjoon sighed wistfully and held his baby closer to his chest. "How are we going to afford this Yoon? We have the twins and Jungkookie is still so little and I'm starting to suspect that he's on the spectrum. How are we going to juggle all of this?"
Yoongi sucked in a breath and angled Jeongin away so he could lean down to push his head against Namjoon's. "Baby, we always find a way. We'll figure it out like we always do. For now, let's just enjoy this moment, yeah? I love you so much, and I know you've been through a lot today. We'll do this together." He went in for a deep kiss and carded Namjoon's ruffled bangs away from his face.
"I love you too, honey. Want to cuddle with me before Seokjin brings everyone in?"
So Yoongi squished into the bed and cuddled with his beautiful husband and sons on their first day in the world.
