Work Text:

It had been a rough and exhausting work day for Hoseok. As soon as he arrived to his home, he was startled by a flash flood notification to his area soon and nearly dropped his phone. He scrambled to turn off the ringer and stared at it for a moment, before letting out a sigh and letting it fall on top of his bed.

He looked out the window and saw how cloudy and dark the sky was getting. This was great, amazing even. Just what he needed, for sure.

Not long after this, his screen lit up— Jungkook asking if he was free and could come over for movies. Maybe his best friend had also gotten the alert and knew how terrified Hoseok was of thunderstorms.

Sometimes, he felt it was a burden for the younger, but he wasn’t one to really complain. Especially if it meant seeing Jeongguk, along with his bright smile and comforting presence.

Hoseok replied to the text, “Of course! But bring something to eat, the fridge is practically empty.”

Not long afterwards, he heard a knock on his door. He rushed to greet Jeongguk, a grin plastered across his face. “Hey, how’s it going?”

“Well, it’s going for sure.” Jeongguk replied with a small smile.

Jeongguk walked in and placed the food on the table. “I also brought popcorn, in case you didn’t have any left.” This made Hoseok laugh because the younger was not wrong.

They split the food and talked throughout their meal, immediately launching into conversation on how their days went, and the weird things that had happened.

After the plates had been cleared, Hoseok had gone to get his laptop and cable to set up the television, while Jeongguk prepared their snacks.

“So, have you thought of anything that you’d like to watch?” Immediately as the words left his mouth, the low rumble of a thunder could be heard.

Jeongguk seemed to think for a moment, while setting himself in one of the couches. “Well, lately I’ve been thinking of watching that one movie from Guillermo del Toro….” He looked at Hoseok pensively. “Shape of water was it? I think.”

And well, who was Hoseok to deny his little Jeongukkie anything. Besides, he hadn’t watched it and was intrigued by everything he had heard regarding the film. Hoseok settled himself in the corner of the other couch, where he could easily reach over the snacks Jeongguk held.

He was amazed by everything in the movie; and got particularly excited when he could partially understand the sign language spoken from the things Namjoon had taught him some time ago. The plot had been intriguing and he wouldn’t be opposed to watching it again.

After the movie was over, they decided on watching Tarzan since Jeongguk mentioned wanting to see a Disney movie, too.

They both sat on the same couch; Jeongguk was paying attention to Tarzan while Hoseok tried to watch the movie but, from time to time, he would look at Jeongguk just to see his reactions to particular scenes.

Slowly, he inches closer to the other, trying to get a closer look to his best friend’s face. This was totally normal right? Wanting to appreciate the beauty of your bro who you’ve been in love with for almost two years, right? He kept telling himself it wasn’t a big deal. However, Jeongguk soon noticed this and smiled at Hoseok, patting the space next to him with a smile. “Y’know, you can sit next to me. You don’t have to be all sneaky.”

“Okay, yeah, bro. Thanks, bro. You’re the best, bro.” Hoseok couldn’t stop himself from his nervous ramble. He wanted to slap himself.

Honestly, what’s better than this, chilling on the couch while watching a Disney movie with your best bro.

Suddenly, a flash can be seen on the wall and the sound of thunder were heard nearby. Hoseok jumps right next to Jeongguk, and the younger looks at him with slight concern in his eyes. “You good?” Hoseok couldn’t talk, so he just nodded and Jeongguk smiled, patting his arm softly and then his thigh.

“You know what, come closer.” The sudden order has Hoseok reddening in embarrassment, but he does so. Jeongguk gently wrapped his arms around his shoulders. “Hopefully this help.”

Now, this wasn’t the first time they cuddled. Could this even be considered cuddling? There was something about it that always put Hoseoks nerves on edge. Always, at the beginning, he would be tense but eventually he would relax into the other’s touch. Little by little, he felt the tenseness within him dissipate.

They stayed like that for a few minutes and Jeongguk slowly leaned his head on Hoseoks shoulder when he saw another flash of a lightning reflecting off his wall. He sneaked his hand to Hoseok’s other side and presses him gently, just in time for the loud rumble of thunder to begin.

Jeongguk began making little patterns on his side until Hoseok started melting against him again. They spent the rest of the movie like this, lost in their embrace.

Hoseok nearly dozed off, but then he heard Jeongguk’s soft voice singing along to “You’ll be in my heart”.

In that moment, Hoseok felt his heart skip a beat and himself falling a little more in love with his best friend. He meets Jeongguk’s eyes, which seemed to sense his movement and now they were both looking at each other. The younger was now silent, looking at him but honestly? Hoseok felt like he was looking at the stars, all of them lost within Jeongguk’s eyes. He felt lost, yet at home. His feelings for Jeongguk seemed to increase tenfold, and it was honestly hard to just not kiss him right then and there.

Hoseok moves his hand to Jeongguk’s and slowly intertwined their fingers. They both smiled at each other and turned their attention back on the movie. They stayed cuddling until the end of it.

“You know, when you think about it, Tarzan can be a really sad movie” Jeongguk said with a sigh and looked up to look at Hoseok. “You have his parents being murdered by a cheetah and he’s left all alone and probably hungry and then Kala saves him and gives him a chance at growing older, even if Kerchak is against having a human as part of their group. She raises him as if he was a child. And considering her actual baby was killed by the same cheetah is just-“

“Jeongguk, hey, breathe” Hoseok chuckled, noticing how intense the younger was getting. “It is really sad, but in the end, he gets to stay in his home and with the people he loves. He stayed true to himself. I think that’s what’s more important.” Jeongguk nodded and leaned his head on Hoseok’s shoulder again. He started fiddling with their intertwined fingers.

All Hoseok wanted to do was kiss his forehead, his cheeks, his lips. And even though they’ve been like this, have been like this as they’ve gotten closer through time, he still didn’t think of confessing; he was too scared. Scared of being rejected by one of his closest friends and losing the bond they currently share. Sometimes, he talked to Namjoon about it. The younger said Hoseok feared change, and he never failed to mention how change could be good. However, the possibility of everything going wrong still lingered in Hoseok’s mind.

Noticing that Hoseok seemed to be lost in his thoughts, Jeongguk quickly checks the time and notices that the thunderstorm seemed to have receded for the most part. He softly shook their hands and separated them. “It’s still sort of early, do you feel like watching anything else?”

Hoseok quickly furrowed his eyebrows and thought about it for a moment. He then shook his head, deciding that it’s either now or never. “No, actually I was thinking…” He stammers. “There’s something that I want to talk to you about…” He was going to confess to his crush, his best friend of 7 years, whom he’s had feelings for the past year and a half.

Hearing Hoseoks words, Jeongguk quickly tried to think of anything he had done recently to get him in trouble. He looked towards the older, as he took a quiet breath “Yeah, uh… what is it?” Had he been too touchy? Maybe Hoseok wanted to be alone all along and didn’t want to seem rude by telling him to stay back in his place? Had he broken anything recently? Did he get in trouble for finishing his hyung’s cereal and orange juice? He’d left a note apologizing for that one. Wait. Maybe he noticed that Jeongguk was in love with him, and this was his way of rejecting his feelings. He hoped that Hoseok would speak up soon, before his mind went into overdrive.

Hoseok couldn’t meet Jeongguk’s eyes, too nervous. He tried looking everywhere: his forehead, his cheeks, the tiny scar he has on his cheek, the little mole under his lips, the one at the end of his neck, the television, the empty bowl of popcorn. Nothing seemed to bring him comfort.

“Hey, are you alright? Is everything alright?” Jeongguk’s voice brought him out of his thoughts once again, and that’s when he decided. It was all or nothing, and he was better of knowing rather than always wondering the “what if’s” or everything that could have happened.

Looking right at Jeongguk’s eyes, Hoseok grabbed his hand and started caressing it with his thumb. “Well, Jeonggukkie, I have feelings for you. Romantic feelings, not just bro feelings as in “I love you, bestie!!” way. I want to hold your hand like this all the time, be able to kiss your precious face and all your little moles all the time. I want to cuddle you to sleep and tell you how amazing you are constantly.” He takes a deep breath, “I want you to be happy always… it’s what I’ve always wanted, so if you don’t feel the same way then I completely underst-“

Jeongguk grabbed Hoseok’s face, squishing his cheeks and effectively shutting him up. He was smiling so hard, and he couldn’t believe what his ears were hearing. “Hobi-hyung… Listen… It’s okay, I feel the same way. I’ve had feelings for you for the longest time. I want to do all of that too. The hand holding, being by your side as long as possible. Especially… wait… would it be okay if I kissed you now? I want to be sure.”

Hoseok giggled at this. He could feel his entire self burning up. “Of course, it’s okay, baby.”

Jeongguk placed his hand on Hoseok’s nape and softly leaned in, until their lips met.

Was it everything he imagined? Probably not; his hands were shaking and he almost missed Hoseok’s lips, and he was scared that the older thought that his kissing sucked. However, there was nowhere else he would rather be right now.

When they separated, Jeongguk kissed Hoseok’s cheek, and gave his lips a tiny peck. “So, does this mean that you want to be together, with me…? As in, being boyfriends?” He was sure that he knew the answer to this, but he wanted to hear the confirmation from his best friend, very-soon-to-be-boyfriend.

“Of course, I want to be with you. I want to be your boyfriend. Have wanted to for quite a while.” He said this with a light chuckle, scratching the back of his neck in embarrassment after realizing what he had admitted.

But it was okay, he wanted for the younger to know his feelings, and to be constantly reminded how amazing he was and how grateful Hoseok was to have him in his life.

He was excited to see what the future had in store for them. He was excited to see how they would grow together as people, and how they would complement each other in their lives now that they were together. He wanted to know if they would grow old together, always be in each other’s lives. But he guessed that things like this were something that you left up to destiny.

He could only hope with his entire being.
