Katsuki rubbed at the words on his wrist, smiling slightly as the memory of his soulmate’s fingers tracing the spiky scrawl of ‘Hey you asshole’ as they sat in the sun.
“Oh, there he is!” Ashido’s hand shot up to wave, and Katsuki waved back as he cut a beeline towards his gang.
“Hey, losers.” he grinned. They’d all worn their jackets for the first day back, uniform black leather with an exploding grenade printed on the back. Good, none of the freshies would have any doubt how badass they were.
“Hey yourself.” Sero elbowed him. “Where were you all summer?”
“The beach.” he pushed his sleeve up to show the paled mark on his arm. “Check it out.”
“Duuuude!” Kaminari shouted, punching him in the shoulder. “How’d it go?”
“He was only here for the summer.” Katsuki shrugged, and flicked a piece of paper out of his jacket pocket. “Got his number, though.”
“Plus six one four nine-” Jirou blinked, looking from the number to him with a confused expression. “Your soulmate’s an Aussie?”
“Why do you know that?” Sero frowned, and Ashido snorted.
“Have you never noticed Jirou fucking carries us at trivia?”
“So, Jirou’s weird knowledge aside.” Katsuki tucked the piece of paper with his soulmate’s number on it back in his pocket. “Anyone else ready to make sure this place remembers our final year?”
“Hell yeah!” his gang yelled, four hands punching the air at once.
“That’s what I like to hear.”

“Over here.” Midoriya led him by the elbow to a table where everyone already seated was wearing the same bright red bandana. “Hey Iida, I found us a new friend!”
“Ooh, Deku his hair is the perfect colour!” a girl with very pink cheeks cooed, pushing her bandana up a little farther on her head to keep her bangs out of her face.
“Colour compatibility is hardly all that matters in making a new friend, Uraraka.” the square-faced boy, presumably Iida, scolded sternly.
“It doesn’t hurt, though.” a girl with her bandana wrapped around a high ponytail stood and held out a hand as Midoriya sat down. “Yaoyorozu Momo.”
“Kirishima Eijirou.” Eijirou shook her offered hand and seated himself in the space between Midoriya and Uraraka.
“I don’t recognize you.” Iida adjusted his glasses, his sharp eyes seeming to bore into Eijirou’s very soul. “Where are you from.”
“Oh, uh, Li’l bit of everywhere?” he chuckled awkwardly. This was the worst part of new schools, honestly. “Spent the last couple years in Australia.”
“Military brat?” Yaoyorozu asked, and Eijirou shook his head.
“Nah, my moms do a lot of disaster relief work and I kinda get dragged along.”
“Oh, that’s so cool!” Uraraka’s eyes shone. “I hope I get to fly people to stuff like that, when I’m a pilot.”
“So, if your moms do disaster relief why are you here?” Midoriya asked, his green eyes wide and inquisitive.
“Sick grandad.” Eijirou grimaced.
“My deepest sympathies.” Iida said, reaching across the table to clasp a hand on his shoulder.
“Uhhh, on a lighter note!” Uraraka chirped, clapping her hands together in a transparent change of subject. “How was everyone’s summers?”
“Quite productive!” Iida grinned. “I spent it working at my family’s company.”
“I got dragged camping.” Uraraka huffed, rolling her eyes.
“I spent most of it at the beach.” Eijirou volunteered.
“Meet anyone cute?” Yaoyorozu leaned forward, elbows on the table, and Eijirou blushed.
“I actually uh, met my soulmate.” he rolled up the sleeve of his T-shirt to show the words “Oi shitty hair” in thick lines which were definitely not the deep green his unmatched soulmark had been, but rather the colour of an old burn. By this time next year the mark would be gone completely.
“Ooooh, lucky!” Izuku’s eyes shone.
“What’s their name?” Uraraka asked, practically hanging on his elbow.
“Oh, his name’s Bakugo.” Eijirou grinned. “Bakugo Katsuki.”
“Well, this year’s going to be interesting.” Yaoyorozu remarked with a smirk.
