Work Text:
Josuke wouldn’t necessarily call himself good at romance. But he thought he knew all the tips and tricks, all the signs that point to people in the direction of attracting each other. Josuke fluffed some pillows on the couch, he carried his favorite blanket to the slowly growing set up in his living room.
Josuke had initially asked Jotaro, but Jotaro (despite having been married) was also equally bad at romance, if not more. All of his advice was way too forward with what he wanted to actually do, he wanted to tell him his feelings, not get him in bed! Josuke then asked him if he knew anyone good who might be good at romance(not just sex) and his nephew pointed out that Rohan knew a lot about people in general.
And that he could be of service. Unfortunately for Josuke Rohan is never of service to him. Rohan gave him tips that basically culminated in “Cut your stupid fucking hair!” Which made him almost kill Rohan with his own art supplies, if not for Koichi being there moderating the whole encounter. After a lot of upturned furniture, ripped up paper, and ink on all 3 of them. Koichi made Josuke return the place to have as it was previously.
Afterwards Koichi took him to the cafe and gave him real dating advice, or at least what worked with him and Yukako. And while he was skeptical about how healthy their relationship started out as, he couldn’t deny that they weren’t happy now.
“Just be clear about what you want, where you’re coming from, and most importantly be DIRECT!” Koichi said over his drink. “Don’t let there be anything unclear about the way you feel about him. Also make sure to do something really nice for him. Maybe you guys could watch his favorite movies or something!”
Josuke popped some popcorn while he considered the previous conversations. He just wanted everything to go smoothly. He was gonna tell his best friend about the long kept feelings he felt for him. Shit he didn’t he even know if Okuyasu liked dudes.
What if he’s gets put off and never wants to see him again? As those thoughts continued to run around in his brain like chickens with their heads cut off, Josuke got some horror movies ready. Something that he knew that Okuyasu liked, although Josuke wasn’t sure if he was gonna be ok. He didn’t want to be a scaredy-cat, he’d fought stands users after his life, he helped take down Yoshikage Kira goddamnit!
A fictional serial killer wouldn’t be any worse than the real deal. But Josuke still wasn’t sure, he still has nightmares of Okuyasu’s bloody body, desperately clinging onto life, and the smile of the man who tried to destroy everything that he loved. He flopped down onto the couch and put his head in his hands. He could do this. He can totally do this.
Again he didn’t have much time to dwell on those factors; because the doorbell rang, shaking himself free of those thoughts, he got up from his seat and opened the door.
“Oi Josuke! Thanks for inviting me over to watch movies!” Okuyasu bellowed cheerfully. A wide smile growing on his face. He took off his shows at the door and then proceeded inside.
“Yo! Okuyasu! It’s no problem man, make yourself at home!” Josuke stepped over the pillows he laid out and put in the first movie he picked out. “You like horror movies right?” Josuke asked, hoping he remembered the right movies he liked an not fuck up and Okuyasu actually prefers romcoms.
“Of course dude! They’re my favorite!!” Okuyasu enthusiastically replied, bouncing a little on the pillows he was preparing to sit on.
Josuke turned off the light in the room and they watched a horror movie in the dark.
A couple of things Josuke realized halfway into the movie, 1. He could not deal with horror movies, he didn’t like the dread, he didn’t like the situations, and he hated the hopelessness of the heroes. And 2. With this lack of being able to deal, led him clinging closer to Okuyasu. Who was absolutely glued to the movie, and didn’t seem to mind the shifting and shuffling of Josuke under their blankets.
Although it’s actually incorrect to assume that Okuyasu was oblivious to Josuke’s discomfort because soon Okuyasu tells Josuke quietly, “Oi, it’s just a movie, you’re gonna be perfectly fine.” And he scoots closer to him. Pretty soon they’re practically cuddling in the pile of pillows and blankets around them. Once the movie ends, they become aware of their position. Both blushing furiously because they other boy and his cute/sexy face is so close to theirs.
“Ssooo, uhh. Let me put on the next movie, or let me get some more snacks.” Josuke tried to move away from Okuyasu. But Okuyasu grabbed his wrist for a second.
“Hey, um are you ok? Like after that movie? It was pretty intense, and it uuuhhh, tread a lot of familiar ground for us…”
Josuke fidgeted with his clothing buttons and pins. “Sure I’m fine, why wouldn’t I be?”
Okuyasu scooted closer again, “I don’t know man. You seemed pretty shaken up by it.” Josuke relented and sat back down. Scooting closer to Okuyasu. And laying his head on his shoulder. He felt his shoulders begin to tremble, as the thought from only a few weeks ago re-entered his mind.
“Sorry for being weak, it’s just that the movie reminded me of when I almost lost you.” Josuke felt tears building up in his eyes. Shit. He didn’t want to cry in front of his best friend. But he couldn’t really stop. Even then, before he could start actually worrying what Okuyasu was thinking, he was dragged into a big, warm, hug.
“Shhh it’s alright bro, I’m sorry that I scared you so much back then.” Okuyasu hushed calmly, rubbing his best friend’s back in slow, gentle circles.
“Hey Okuyasu can I tell you something bro?” Josuke said, moving slightly so that he could see Okuyasu’s face. Okuyasu looked up to meet his gaze.
“Uuuhhh, I love you bro.” Josuke said, blushing and looking away quickly. Normally he was more confident, but he normally wasn’t so open about he feeling towards other people
“Yeah same man! You’re my best friend!” Okuyasu replied, not quiets understanding what’s happening.
“No dude, I’m in love with you.” Josuke said again. Trying to get his true feelings across. He put his hands firmly on his best friend’s shoulder.
“You mean you like me? Like in that way?!” Okuyasu replied, surprised by the sudden confession. Shifting away from Josuke a little bit. A thing that made Josuke’s brain shout, “YO! WE FUCKED UP!” Josuke moved himself away from him too, worried about if what he was doing was a mistake. But he couldn’t give up now! He pushed forward.
“Yes!!” Josuke yelled! Rising to his feet too quickly, he quickly got dizzy and fell back down on their pillows that they shared. Okuyasu hovered over him, and scooted closer.
“For real?!”
“Yes for real!!” Josuke groaned, reaching his hands straight up into the air, grasping at nothing except the advice his friends gave.
Be clear, be understandable, and be direct.
So Josuke did the only thing that he knew how to do that would confirm Okuyasu Josuke’s feelings for him.
Josuke reached up and grabbed Okuyasu from where he was hovering above him, and brought him down to his face. And kissed him.
Okuyasu briefly froze up in shock. Before melting and returning Josuke’s kiss.
He wrapped his arms around Josuke’s waist and brought themselves closer together.
Josuke put his hand on the other man’s face, and gently turned it to deepen the kiss. Josuke decided he wanted to try something he’d only seen in movies, and mention as such. “Hey you wanna try doing it with like tongues or something?”
Okuyasu nodded still dumbfounded he was here kissing someone at all. Their lips met again with a feverish passion.
After a little bit they stopped. Realizing that there were still a few questions in the air that begged asking.
“So uhh… Are we like, boyfriends now?” Okuyasu began. Scratching the back of his head, looking away. His cheeks still red and warm. Josuke sat up and look over to him.
“I mean, as long as you’re cool with it bro.”
Josuke chuckled lightly. And Okuyasu joined him.
“Yeah, I mean I think that sounds pretty cool. But like, what do we exactly do as boyfriends?” He inquired. The tough young men had been through a lot together. And while they got to go to school and stuff, romancing the opposite gender hadn’t entered either of their minds. So they were both a little behind about this romance crap.
“I mean like I’m pretty sure couples go on dates and shit. So let’s start there. Where do you want to go as a first date?” Josuke asked his newly made boyfriend. Okuyasu looked up at him and said, “Is it alright if I say I want to go to Tonio’s?”
“Sure thing! Tonio’s is delicious and I know how much you like hanging there.”
“So when we doing this?” Okuyasu stretched, and straightened his posture a little.
“I don’t know, does Friday at 6:00 sound good?”
“Sounds like a date!”
Okuyasu left to go back to his house down the street. And the idea of a date at the end of the week made both almost giddy.
The excitement of a new romance with their bro, a bromance if you must, blossoming into sweet joy.
A date at Tonio’s. When Okuyasu got to his house, he immediately put it on the calendar.
