Giggling. On the train headed to Izuku’s apartment complex, they giggle. It’s over something on Kacchan’s phone, a cat, a squirrel, something-something. Izuku really isn’t sure but it’s funny. It’s fun.
Earlier today, after finding out that the entire class passed the final exam and are all set to graduate, they deemed this night to be the right time for drinking. It was probably Ashido’s idea. Or Sero’s. Izuku can’t really remember but everyone was obligated to come. Even Kacchan, who strangely didn’t protest as much as everyone expected, attended this gathering. There was karaoke and drinks and food and an impromptu “truth or dare” which evolved into some of the guys playing as contestants in a beauty pageant with the girls as judges. Izuku remembers drinking a lot but laughing more and at some point the walls started moving until he found himself next to Kacchan.
They’ve had a little too much to drink. Or no. Maybe not really. Their world moves slowly, but not that much to induce vomiting. There’s a light feeling in their heads and a happy feeling in their chest. That’s the culprit behind them talking a lot. Izuku doesn’t remember much of it what with the lights and the singing and all the laughing. Oh, and someone running to the toilet to hurl. Someone else pretending to be Aizawa-sensei. Another person twerking wrong. Kacchan laughs. Izuku laughs with him. They make a toast to a random thing.
“Go beyond!” Kacchan starts.
“Plus Ultraaaa!” Izuku replies, his drink sloshing in the bottle.
But now here they are—both giggling next to each other on the train. They sit very close, shoulders touching, heads almost leaning into each other. Across them, an older man in a thick coat and a bonnet is giving them a nasty look. No words come out of him, however, however. Perhaps it’s safe to assume that Kacchan’s thick as fuck arms can be thanked for that. So they keep chuckling, tapping and swiping on the phone, and finding the accidental closing of apps hilarious. Occasionally, Kacchan complains about Izuku’s hair in his eyes but he does so with a smile so Izuku just chuckles as Kacchan’s fingers push his green curls back.
His hands are so warm.
Izuku doesn’t think they’re that drunk but he’s not going to be the first one to mention that.
There’s a chime from the speakers and Kacchan fidgets.
“That’s us.” He says, pocketing his phone as he quickly grabs Izuku by the wrist. The green-haired young man giggles as he stumbles forward—”Woah!”—but Kacchan keeps him steady. The doors close behind them and the sound of buzzing people fill their ears. A woman was announcing something over the intercom. The train leaves.
Fsss-chug-chug-chug-chug.
Kacchan tugs Izuku closer behind him. He trots to keep up.
They walk together to Izuku’s apartment complex because “Deku is too stupid to go home on his own”. It could have been the alcohol, but that sentence comes off as endearing so Izuku just laughs for the hundredth time tonight. Kacchan flicks him on the forehead. Nothing more is said. They keep walking like a couple of high school girls, swaying and giggling over an internal joke or a little secret. Into the gate and up the stairs they went, walking a little tipsy over the hallway.
Kacchan’s hand never leaves Izuku’s wrist as Izuku’s fingers somehow find themselves clutched onto Kacchan’s sleeve.
They’re not as drunk as they were earlier but the world still sways around them and the light and fluffy feeling is still there. If it’s caused by remaining alcohol or something else, neither of them seem to care.
The keys fall from Izuku’s fingers. Kacchan groans but laughs and slowly stoops down to pick them up. The blonde man stumbles forward slightly but doesn’t fall. He straightens a little later, blinking to reorient himself, still a little dizzy maybe. Izuku holds him by the elbow and brushes the hair off his forehead.
“Oh, who is the klutz?” Izuku says, one eyebrow raised and keeps talking before his companion can say anything. “Klutz-chan.”
“Shut up.” Kacchan elbows him but doesn’t connect. Izuku makes a small mocking sound that Kacchan chooses to ignore in favor of dealing with the apartment door. It complies with a click and then a creak as it opens.
The two of them stumble into the doorway, slightly shoving each other like it’s a race as to who gets his foot in the first. Izuku complains loudly as Kacchan presses his shoulder against his on the door jamb and strides into the entryway. The blonde man laughs, shaking off his coat that gets stuck in the elbows thanks to his rolled up sleeves. Izuku makes a comment but pulls the coat off him anyway before removing his own.
Coats off. Shoes off. Socks off. Belts off.
Everything falls on the floor. Neither of them care.
“Water. You need water.” Kacchan says as he heads for the kitchen, the freckled young man padding like a puppy after him. They don’t bother to switch on the lights so the furniture had to suffer a little from being kneed. Thankfully no stubbed toes.
The refrigerator light is a little too annoying to the eyes that Kacchan slams it shut in the half-second it went on. Izuku pushes him a little as if to say “let me”. In the dimness of the room, he pours a glass for the both of them. They drink.
“Idiiiiooooot…!” Kacchan says in a sing-song voice as he points at the water dribbling down the corners of Izuku’s mouth.
“Same-saaaaaaame…!” Izuku replies, jabbing a finger on the wet spots on Kacchan’s chest. The red-eyed man swats his hand away before pushing him along and saying, “Get to bed, you drunk fuck.”
“Nyu nrunk fuhk.” Izuku makes a face in the darkness, which earns him a light chop between the shoulder blades.
The door swings open and Kacchan continues his light playful pushing of Izuku into his bedroom. Izuku clicks his tongue in complaint before yanking Kacchan towards him so they stumble into the bed. The mattress complains and there’s a small thud against the side table. Negligible. Izuku wheezes as he feels half of the other man’s weight on him so he flails a little. Not a good idea, says the little bit of alcohol inside him.
“Biiitch…!” Kacchan complains, shoving Izuku away from him. They shift around randomly, trying to find a comfortable fit in this bed for one. Why Kacchan was in this bed and not getting up angrily to go home, neither of them are sure. They’re not drunk, though. Just the right amount of tipsy. Just the right amount of happy. Just the right amount of fun.
They end up lying on their sides, facing each other, their faces close enough for them to smell alcohol and meat on their breaths. Kacchan makes a comment of it and Izuku just exhales harder in his direction before laughing. It earns him a pinch on his cheek, which doesn’t really hurt.
“Where do freckles come from?” Kacchan asks as Izuku shifts again. His knee wedges a little in between Kacchan’s legs.
“Where. Do. Freckles. Come. Froooom?” Kacchan says again, lifting one finger to trace over the small blemishes on Izuku’s cheek. Izuku only sighs and smiles in response, more interested in how the faint moonlight makes Kacchan’s red eyes glitter. He wonders if his green eyes are doing the same or if they look like large green headlights staring into a person’s soul.
Kacchan traces a triangle on his cheek.
“Triangle.” Izuku says proudly.
“Well, aren’t we a genius?” The other man replies sarcastically, making a face.
“Try me.”
“Fine.” Kacchan pokes him on the forehead before drawing patterns on his cheek. Between huffs and soft laughter, a thick finger travels across Izuku’s skin, tracing freckles like they were dots, like stars forming constellations. Izuku makes guesses. Circle. Square. Ka. Na. Ba. Fish. Star. The Kanji for victory. The Kanji for dumb. Sometimes he guesses right. Sometimes he guesses wrong. And Kacchan boops him on the nose whenever he’s wrong.
“Stupid, stupid, stupid nerd.” He’ll say. “Stupid, stupid neeeeeerd.”
They giggle softly like they’re afraid someone’s going to hear.
They keep at this for the entire night, Izuku assumes, but in reality, it’s only been ten minutes. His eyelids are slowly getting heavy but Kacchan seems to still be awake and damn if Izuku isn’t going to keep up.
“Last one.” Kacchan whispers, the tip of his finger lazily travelling from one point to another. Izuku contemplates, doesn’t try that hard but thinks he knows the figure.
“Heart.” Izuku says surely. “It’s a heart.”
“Noooo, it isn’t.” Kacchan raises his eyebrows and boops him on the nose.
“Yes, it is!” Izuku has no proof of his claim but he says it anyway. “It is! It is!”
Kacchan scoffs.
“You’re cheatiiiiing…!” Izuku pinches Kacchan’s cheek and the man laughs.
“No, I didn’t.”
Izuku groans in complaint, inching closer as the bed dips towards the middle as if to push them together. A leg swings on top of him and a strong arm pulls him closer.
“I don’t cheat.” Kacchan whispers into green curls. “Not with you.”
Trapped in the hug, Izuku hums but comments no more. And from there they fall into sleep and silence until suddenly it’s morning and Izuku comes to. The sunlight is soft against his eyes and the chirping of the birds seem to welcome him to a new day. He’s still lying on his side, his one arm numb but that’s of no importance. Last night is coming back to him and now he realizes how they had their backs to each other, totally the opposite of how they fell asleep. Izuku blinks thoughtfully, feeling Kacchan breathe softly behind him. Whether or not he’s awake already is uncertain and Izuku doesn’t bother to check. He’s much too occupied reminiscing the events from last night.
They weren’t that drunk. They didn’t kiss. Their clothes were still on. They didn’t touch, at least not in that way . They only hugged. Barely. But somehow Izuku knows they had crossed a certain line, that last night was a little to intimate for the usual and neither of them are dumb enough to pretend they don’t remember. Blaming it on alcohol would be such a childish lie. Izuku knows this and he’s sure Kacchan does, too.
They weren’t drunk. Not really. Just the right amount of tipsy. Just the right amount of happy. Just the right amount of fun.
Just the right amount of honesty from where there’s no going back.
