Confection Confession

Summary:

Denki has had a crush on Class A's stunner Shouto Todoroki since the start of first year. On the last day of their third year, Ua hosted their annual dinner for the graduates. What better time for the hopeless romantic to make his feelings known? If his confession failed, the two would only see each other on duty. A foolproof plan.

Work Text:

"Gays!" I'm gonna do it!" Denki announced abruptly, interrupting the table-wide conversation about what grades different heroes had in school. He smacked the side of his fist against the table, electricity flickering over his skin. His chair nearly hit the floor from the momentum of him standing.

"Do what, dunce?" Katsuki glared, unhappy with the table shaking, but no heat was in his words. His question was ignored.

"Wait you're actually gonna? For real for real?" Hanta asked, surprise in both expression and words, of which seemed to mirror what everyone else was thinking.

Denki nodded brightly, hopeful pride but a tinge of anxiety in his smile.

Without a second word—or thought for that matter—Denki walked away from the group.

Katsuki attempted to get answers about what the hell was happening with the idiot and why his friends were so "oh my god" about it, but got no answer. All he got was being told to "just watch." Which they did.

The watchee made his way to the dessert table, where he selected one of the plates with a vanilla and strawberry-piece cake courtesy of Satou (he was recognized by Lunch Rush for his excellent baking ability and was given the opportunity to be the pastry chef for the dinner). The dessert table was far from his friends, thankfully, or they would've seen the slight shakiness of his hands as he picked up the plate. At least it wasn't so bad that the fork was falling off.

Somehow, Denki crossed the floor without incident. His group almost screamed in anticipation as they watched him walk straight up to none other than Todoroki Shouto with the littlest amount of hesitation he could manage. Shouto appeared semi-uncomfortable, having just finished a conversation with someone from another class, who had walked away, and now he was just standing around.

Right then, Shouto turned to walk back to his own table, giving Denki the perfect amount of time to go up to him or back out completely. But, before he could do the latter, his hand already reached out and tapped Shouto's shoulder, grabbing his attention.

"Hey Kaminari?" He sent a quizzical look to the shorter boy in front of him, one eyebrow raised slightly.

"Todoroki!" Denki beamed, pausing for a fraction of a second in attempts to recollect himself. "I have a proposition for you."

"Okay. What is it?"

"If this cake is good, you should date me. Deal?" He brought the plate up to just under his chin.

What seemed like Shouto trying to calm the light blush that crossed his cheeks, he straightened out his back, quietly clearing his throat.

"Alright, deal."

How Denki managed to stay standing in that moment was beyond him, but couldn't stop the heavy breath he was holding in from exiting through his nose. He didn't even register the plate being taken from between his fingers. The sheer fact that Shouto agreed to his "proposition" was enough to put Denki in a state of near-fainting. What did eventually bring him back into his own body was the sound of a fork clinking against the ceramic.

"It's quite good," Shouto said, locking eyes with Denki.

Denki could barely hear him over the sound of his heart beating in his ears. If it wasn't already beating out of his chest, it most definitely was then. Anyone within a five-foot radius could probably hear it at that point.

"A deal is a deal, right? A date doesn't sound half bad. Especially with you... Kaminari are you ok?" Shouto had an incredibly concerned expression, noticing how red Denki was getting.

"Yea-yeah, I mean—yeah! I'm more than fine just didn't think I'd get this fair I'm—"

"At a loss for words?"

"That about sums it up, yeah," he chuckled, trying to alleviate at least some of his nerves.

"Well, does it make it easier for me to suggest a possible date next Friday? Say, 6:30?"

"I was the one with the pickup line! Isn't this supposed to be reversed?"

"Do you have an idea of where to go?"

Denki bit the inside of his bottom lip, shaking his head and looking down to hide his blush. "Friday sounds good, yeah."

"What I thought. " Shouto a smug yet soft smile crossed his face when Denki looked back up, causing his face to brighten, small sparks running throughout his body. "I'll pick you up. Text me your address?"

Denki nodded excitedly, an ecstatic smile returning to his face.

They bid their goodbye's to each other—which was possibly in the form of a small peck on the check from Shouto.

Almost falling flat on his face multiple times from the still unsettled nerves. But he managed to stay kept and off the floor.

"That was pretty smooth on both ends. I'm proud," Hanta was the first to speak, pumping his fist against his friend's shoulder.

"When you told me you were gonna pull a stunt like that, I honestly didn't believe you." Mina butted in, propping her chin on the backs of her laced fingers.

Denki's face flared in embarrassment. "It wasn't all that smooth. I was a mess for most of it."

"Okay, what the fuck did you say to half-n-half to get him to kiss you, and what the hell was the cake for?" Katsuki asked, prompting a laugh out of Eijirou.

"Okay, so..."
